When he learned from Wu Xuehua that Zhuang Jie didn’t seem to be looking for a partner in town, he immediately felt downhearted.

He went from playing the deceased to becoming the mortician again and proposed treating everyone to dinner and a movie. Ever since seeing Grandma Lin’s medical report, Zhuang Jie had been emotionally unsettled and kept wanting to talk to someone. After much thought, she sent a message to Chen Maidong, but he didn’t reply for a long time.

Meanwhile, the girl who had previously shown interest in Chen Maidong came to visit his grandmother with gifts and was caught by Zhuang Jie. Chen’s grandmother helplessly revealed the girl’s intentions to Zhuang Jie, who appeared indifferent on the surface but felt quite upset inside. That evening, after coming out of the cinema, Chen Maidong and his group saw Zhuang Jie waiting alone at the entrance.

Once everyone had left, Chen Maidong responded coldly to Zhuang Jie and turned the tables to question whether she had ever truly cared. He said she had never given him a clear answer, and he was done playing this ridiculous love game. Zhuang Jie was furious at Chen Maidong’s words and accused him of being unreasonable. She said that while she might have some minor flaws, she had always been consistent in word and deed.

A man like Chen Maidong, who made a marriage proposal feel like a guessing game, didn’t seem like someone serious or responsible. On the way back, Zhuang Jie cried until her eyes were red. Chen Maidong rode his bike to catch up with her, apologized sincerely, and scooped her up in a princess carry, which finally soothed her anger. The two of them then attended the town’s art exhibition.

In the middle of the brilliant lanterns, they embraced and kissed—just in time for Wu Xuehua and Liao Tao to arrive at the exhibition and witness the scene.
