> The Fox's Summer Recap
Xia Meng arrived at Sheng Hong Corporation and submitted Li Yanshu's resignation, hoping her daughter would return to work for Han Corporation. However, Li Yanshu adamantly refused to go back. To fend off her mother, Yanshu claimed she was staying at Sheng Hong specifically for Gu Jinyun and pleaded with her to stop interfering in her life. This conversation was overheard by Gu Chengze, who felt a strange pang of disappointment.
Back home, Xia Meng researched Gu Jinyun and, seeing the overwhelming number of scandals online, grew increasingly worried about her daughter. Unbeknownst to Yanshu, Xia Meng invited Gu Jinyun to their home as a guest. When Han Junyao called Li Yanshu, she accused Yanshu of manipulating her mother to curry favor with Gu Jinyun. Upon hearing this, Yanshu immediately rushed home and forcefully made Gu Jinyun leave the house.
Li Yanshu vehemently confronted her mother, demanding to know why she meddled in her affairs. Xia Meng explained that she merely wanted to get to know Gu Jinyun better, believing he was the man Yanshu liked. Yanshu retorted that her mother's vanity had caused her to be ostracized since childhood, a revelation that so shocked Xia Meng that she slapped her daughter. Yanshu then revealed that Gu Jinyun's grandmother disapproved of her common background.
Yanshu stated that she didn't want her first love to devolve into a vulgar negotiation because of her mother's intervention; instead, she chose to end the relationship herself, ensuring Gu Jinyun would hate her on her own terms rather than witnessing their relationship become utterly debased by her mother's involvement. Gu Jinyun, who was outside the door, overheard this heartbreaking confession and finally understood why Yanshu had so cruelly left him.
Gu Jinyun reminisced about his student days with Li Yanshu, recognizing the many hardships she had endured and realizing that Yanshu's inner pain ran far deeper than it appeared. From that point on, Gu Jinyun had quietly looked out for Yanshu, and a beautiful affection had blossomed between them. His thoughts were interrupted by a phone call from Xia Meng, who apologized for the day's embarrassing incident. Following this confrontation, Gu Jinyun was absent from work for two days.
When he finally reappeared at the company, he carried a bouquet of flowers, which he presented to Li Yanshu, startling her. Gu Chengze, witnessing the scene, felt a sense of unease. Gu Jinyun informed Gu Chengze that after a full day and night of contemplation, he had decided to pursue Yanshu. Gu Chengze's reaction was notably uncharacteristic, as he expressed disbelief and made sarcastic comments about Yanshu's personality and tidiness, highlighting his unusual concern for her.
From that moment on, Gu Jinyun began a campaign of overly solicitous care towards Li Yanshu, a sudden change that Yanshu found highly suspicious. She confronted Gu Jinyun, warning him to stop his new tricks. Gu Jinyun, putting his arm around Yanshu's shoulder, publicly declared his desire to reconcile with her. This display was witnessed by many employees in the company, eliciting widespread murmurs and whispers. Upon returning home, Gu Chengze questioned Yanshu, accusing her of playing hard to get.
He reminded her that he had overheard her tell her mother that she remained at Sheng Hong for Gu Jinyun, yet now she was refusing his advances. Yanshu became furious at Gu Chengze's accusation and stormed out to vent to her male neighbor. The neighbor shrewdly observed that Yanshu seemed to care deeply about Gu Chengze's opinion, a notion Yanshu immediately denied.
