Lei Yuzheng stood alone under a large banyan tree, lost in memories of the joyful times he shared with Shao Zhenrong. He imagined Zhenrong sitting there, deep in thought, and his heart ached, knowing that Zhenrong was now gone. Sometime later, Jiang Fanlv found Lei Yuzheng, remarking on how drawn he looked. She expressed her sadness, recalling that the three of them grew up together and Zhenrong always treated her like a sister.

She urged Lei Yuzheng not to blame himself too much and to take care, reminding him that he still had her. Meanwhile, Zou Siqi felt deep sorrow for Du Xiaosu. He Qunfei was also affected, acknowledging the suddenness of Dr. Shao's death and Lei Yuzheng's profound grief. He observed how vulnerable life could be, prompting him to cherish his own happiness more.

He suggested to Zou Siqi that they should value their good days and that, after two or three years of working, they could afford a down payment for a house, hoping to marry her soon. A month later, Lei Yuzheng visited Zhenrong’s grave to pour out his heart. He spoke to Zhenrong, asking why he had run away and given up.

He reminisced about their promise to grow old together, to go fishing, and to talk about their childhood memories, lamenting that Zhenrong had broken their pact. He wondered why fate had chosen Zhenrong. Du Xiaosu also arrived at the cemetery, bringing Zhenrong’s favorite tulips. Lei Yuzheng immediately confronted her, forbidding her from disturbing Zhenrong and accusing her of hypocrisy. Xiaosu stated she was there to visit Zhenrong and that he liked tulips.

Lei Yuzheng retorted that she didn't deserve to mention him, blaming her heartlessness for Zhenrong’s trip to Yunnan, where he was caught in the mudslide, leading to his death. Xiaosu acknowledged she owed Zhenrong an apology, but Lei Yuzheng dismissed it as further hypocrisy. Xiaosu insisted she had been serious about Zhenrong. Lei Yuzheng then provocatively asked if she was serious when she "lied on the street while drunk."

Xiaosu denied his slander, but Lei Yuzheng revealed he hadn't unearthed the truth about her earlier, hoping she would treat Zhenrong better. Now that Zhenrong was gone, he felt he could speak frankly about "what kind of person she was." He reminded her of a rainy night a year ago when she was too drunk and fell in front of his car.

Xiaosu, realizing he was the one who drove her to the hotel that night, tried to explain, but Lei Yuzheng cut her off, refusing to listen. He told her to leave and never bother Zhenrong again. Later, a colleague, cleaning Dr. Shao's office, discovered a Shanghai Commercial Housing Sales Contract and Subscription Agreement in his drawer. It was in Xiaosu's name, something Dr. Shao had been unable to give her. The colleague handed the contract to Xiaosu.

Xiaosu was filled with profound regret, realizing Zhenrong had bought a house for them. She broke down, confiding in Zou Siqi her sorrow and persistent feelings of guilt. Zou Siqi comforted her, assuring her that Zhenrong would never hate her and would only wish for her well-being. Xiaosu lamented that she couldn't even save the house.

Xiaosu then received a phone call from a real estate agent, who informed her that their houses in Anman western suburb were highly sought after and urged her to pay the down payment soon, or the house would be sold to someone else. Xiaosu explained her family's recent difficulties and pleaded for more time, promising to sign the contract as soon as she collected the money. The agent reluctantly gave her three more days.

Unbeknownst to Xiaosu, Lei Yuzheng, having seen a document indicating Shao Zhenrong had paid a deposit for a house at Yipinmingcheng, instructed He Qunfei to contact the sales manager of the real estate company immediately. Desperate to secure the house, Xiaosu borrowed over 300,000 yuan from her parents. Zou Siqi generously offered her entire dowry, despite Xiaosu’s reluctance to accept it, insisting it was her share of Xiaosu's new home.

Even with this, Xiaosu was still short by about half the amount needed. Zou Siqi then told He Qunfei to transfer his marriage money to Xiaosu to help with the emergency, brushing aside Xiaosu's protest by saying his money might not be used on her anyway. Still needing more, Xiaosu turned to Brother Mo, her former boss. He playfully chided her for not calling, then, acknowledging her difficulties, encouraged her to stay positive and confident.

He gave her a bonus she was owed from a past project, adding some of his own money as a gift. With these efforts, Xiaosu finally gathered enough for the down payment. However, when she arrived at the sales office, she was told the house had already been sold, as she was half a day late. Furious, she was then discreetly informed by a staff member that Lei Yuzheng had bought the house.

Du Xiaosu immediately went to confront Lei Yuzheng at his company. After his assistant initially tried to turn her away, Lei Yuzheng agreed to see her for five minutes. Xiaosu laid out the money she had collected—over 710,000 yuan, including the deposit on her card—explaining that she could get a business loan for the rest needed for a down payment. She begged him to sell her the house Zhenrong had bought.

Lei Yuzheng flatly refused, asking why he would help her. He then tore up the purchase contract and deposit receipt in front of her. Xiaosu demanded an explanation for tearing up "her contract." Lei Yuzheng declared it was because she had "let Zhenrong down," telling her to sue him if she had objections. He also informed her that she no longer needed to work at Boyuan from the next day.

Xiaosu vehemently argued that he couldn't fire her or take "our house." Lei Yuzheng ridiculed her use of "our house," reminding her she had broken up with Zhenrong and asserting the house belonged only to Zhenrong, and he was simply "returning it to its owner." Xiaosu swore she would take the house back, no matter the cost, and would not leave until she did. Lei Yuzheng asked if she was challenging him, to which she defiantly said yes.

He warned her not to "play with fire," but Xiaosu declared she didn't care what he thought of her; the house was Zhenrong's and her home. Lei Yuzheng accused her of being shameless for mentioning Zhenrong, reiterating that Zhenrong was "murdered by her." Xiaosu acknowledged she might be a killer in his mind and, embracing that notion, stated that a killer would do anything to achieve their goal. She vowed to be back.

Meanwhile, Lin Xiangyuan met with Mr. Xie to discuss their plans for Yutian's Universal Entertainment Center project, hinting at grand ambitions. Later, Jiang Fanlv called Lin Xiangyuan on the phone, rushing him to pick up a pair of shoes for an important party, despite his own commitments. Reluctantly, Lin Xiangyuan went to the mall. There, he encountered He Qunfei and Zou Siqi, who were shopping for clothes. He Qunfei's card was declined.

Lin Xiangyuan generously offered his own card for their purchase, stating they were like brothers. He then inquired about Xiaosu, asking He Qunfei to keep him informed if anything else happened to her. As he left with Jiang Fanlv's shoes, Lin Xiangyuan wryly commented to He Qunfei that at least He Qunfei was working for his girlfriend, while he was in a "much worse situation," fetching shoes for Miss Jiang Fanlv.

Back at her apartment, Du Xiaosu tried to make nori egg soup, but memories of Shao Zhenrong—his cooking for her, their happy moments—overwhelmed her, and she slumped to the floor, heartbroken. Zou Siqi and He Qunfei returned to find her distraught, noticing her injured hand and the burnt pot. Xiaosu lamented her inability to save the house, revealing it had been taken by Lei Yuzheng.

Zou Siqi continued to console her, assuring her that Zhenrong would only want her to be well. The next morning, Xiaosu confronted Lei Yuzheng again at his company. He expressed his impatience, but she reminded him of her earlier vow to return for the house. Lei Yuzheng firmly stated he would not give her the house and Boyuan would never employ her again.

Xiaosu presented her contract with Boyuan, explaining that the company could only terminate her employment unconditionally if she broke rules or the law; otherwise, 30 days' notice was required. Lei Yuzheng officially gave her 30 days' notice. Xiaosu, undeterred, asserted that 30 days offered "numerous possibilities" and likened her determination to a moth flying into a flame, a moment of rebirth that many powerful people lacked the courage to embrace. She challenged him to a "gambling" for these 30 days.

Lei Yuzheng accepted: if she could collect all the money for the house within 30 days, he would give it to her; otherwise, she would have to leave Boyuan and this city forever. Xiaosu accepted the terms. Later, Zou Siqi questioned Xiaosu's audacity, wondering how she could possibly collect a million yuan within 30 days, but Xiaosu remained resolute in her "moth to flame" philosophy.
