Story of Kunning Palace Episode 32 Recap
> Story of Kunning Palace Recap
When Jiang Xuening left, Madam Meng finally appeared. Jiang Xuening wore the outfit Madam Meng had given her. She handed her a safety charm and, though her words were sharp, her heart was soft. They were mother and daughter, after all. Madam Meng ultimately wished Jiang Xuening peace and happiness. Both were in tears. Jiang Xuening had chosen this path and would walk it, but the family doors would always be open to her.
With tears in her eyes, Jiang Xuening departed under her parents’ gaze. She turned back to thank Madam Meng and called her “Mother” for the first time in her life. Madam Meng was deeply moved. At the post station, Xie Wei had already been waiting. Affairs in the capital had been settled. Jiang Xuening’s only goal now was to bring Shen Zhiyi home. On the road, they were ambushed by assassins. Jiang Xuening and Xie Wei fell from the carriage.
Xie Wei left the qin behind and fled on horseback with her in his arms. They ran until nightfall, evading their pursuers. Daoqin and Jianshu were enough to ensure safety, but to escape the pursuers, they released the horse and trekked through the mountains on foot. Hearing wolves howling, Jiang Xuening clung to Xie Wei’s arm in fear. But for Xie Wei, no beast was more terrifying than the human heart.
Xie Wei was bitten by a snake but kept it from Jiang Xuening. They found a cave to stay warm. As Jiang Xuening built a fire, Xie Wei fainted. When he came to, he saw Jiang Xuening sucking the venom from his wound. He hadn’t really fainted—he had just been resting and took the chance to mock her medical skills. Laughing, Jiang Xuening recalled how Xie Wei used to treasure his qin when they came to the capital.
Now, for her, he had lost it. She said she’d get him a better one, but that only made Xie Wei angrier. Xie Wei turned away to sleep. Snow began falling. In his dreams, he returned to the palace coup where the Empress Dowager had threatened his mother’s life to force him to impersonate the Crown Prince. Jiang Xuening heard him crying out for his mother and saying Dingfei was willing to go.
She worried he might have a dissociative episode upon waking. Before she could decide what to do, a cat entered the cave. For Xie Wei, this was another nightmare. Jiang Xuening knew he feared cats and tried to chase them away with a torch. Xie Wei was confused by the sight. Jiang Xuening managed to drive them out but was suddenly pinned against the wall by Xie Wei. He said she should’ve left long ago.
But now that she wanted to go, it was too late. Xie Wei gripped Jiang Xuening’s hands and kissed her wildly. Though she pushed him away repeatedly, he couldn’t stop. He resented her feelings for Zhang Zhe and claimed she never truly understood him. He even threatened to die with her in the cave. But Jiang Xuening told him, “I saved your life. Don’t be a coward. Don’t make me despise you. ” The snow stopped.
Xie Wei regained his senses. Jiang Xuening hadn’t expected he would remember everything. Daoqin and Jianshu finally found them, but noticed a strange tension between the two. Jiang Xuening stopped Xie Wei from taking the Yunshi powder. He agreed without hesitation and carefully tended to her wounds. Jiang Xuening began to suspect Xie Wei might truly be Xue Dingfei. But how much had he suffered to survive in a place like Jinling? He was the one who never knew peace.
