Story of Kunning Palace Episode 10 Recap
> Story of Kunning Palace Recap
The Empress Dowager arranged for Shen Jie and Xue Shu to meet. Shen Jie, quiet and unwilling, tried to flee. At that moment, Shen Zhiyi burst in to demand Wang Jiu’s removal. Xue Shu subtly implied that Wang Jiu was from the Xue family. Jiang Xuening, with her hands wrapped like pig’s trotters, went to Xie Wei, thinking she was punished because of him. Xie Wei, confused at first, became angry after hearing the whole story.
Wang Jiu had asked Jiang Xuening to write a poem, and Xie Wei conveniently had one for her to use. Jiang Xuening handed Xie Wei’s poem to Wang Jiu, who said it was unrefined. Just then, Xie Wei arrived, stating it was an old playful piece of his. Jiang Xuening quickly apologized and went to stand outside, embarrassing Wang Jiu. Yan’s father discovered stolen supplies in the military camp, which upon closer inspection were traced to the Xingwu Guards.
He decided to report this to the emperor. Wang Jiu requested retirement the day before, and Teacher Zhao was demoted. You Yue once again implied that Jiang Xuening was behind it, while Xue Shu maintained her act of kindness. Xie Wei reported the matter to the emperor and suggested that Jiang’s father take over as Minister.
When the emperor heard that Jiang Xuening was his daughter and Xie Wei was close to her, Xie Wei clarified they were just teacher and student. The emperor agreed. Jiang’s father was surprised by the sudden promotion. Lady Meng wanted to write to Jiang Xuening to find out what was going on, but he stopped her, saying the palace was no ordinary place. Lady Meng was arranging a marriage for Jiang Xuehui and didn’t want Jiang Xuening to disrupt propriety.
In the end, Jiang’s father agreed to write a letter but insisted on keeping it proper. Jiang Xuening received the letter. In her past life, her family was not involved, but in this life, by helping Xie Wei against the Xue family, she inadvertently earned her father a promotion. Perhaps everything could still be redeemed. On his way back to the capital, Yan’s father was ambushed.
Yan Lin rushed to his aid, but the witness Lao Zhao was killed, and Yan’s father was wounded by an arrow. Eunuchs came to search their residences and found a letter in Jiang Xuening’s room accusing her of colluding with traitors—something that didn’t happen in her past life. The emperor ordered the city sealed to root out the traitors. Yan Lin, anxious to save his father, was distraught.
Jiang Xuening was to be taken to the Court of Judicial Review, but she refused to be framed and demanded the eunuch deliver a message to the Empress Dowager. Xie Wei, worried about the lockdown and Yan’s father’s injury, was shocked to hear that Jiang Xuening was in trouble too. Jiang Xuening refused to go down alone and intended to drag everyone with her. Xie Wei and Lü Xian found a doctor for Yan’s father.
Xie Wei realized this wasn’t the Xingwu Guards’ doing but Gong Yicheng’s. Jiang Xuening and others were taken to the Empress Dowager’s palace, where the Dowager implicated the Yan family and even ordered a public flogging. To protect herself, Jiang Xuening threatened them with a hairpin and reasoned the consequences: a minister’s daughter dying without cause in the palace wasn’t something easily explained.
Her eloquence worked, and the Dowager ordered someone from the Ministry of Justice to judge the case, which brought Jiang Xuening some relief—at least the Yan family would be spared. Kneeling for an hour and nearing exhaustion, Jiang Xuening finally saw the people from the Ministry arrive—including Zhang Zhe. She stared at him in shock, and the hairpin finally fell from her hand. Yao Xi’s eyes also lit up at the sight of Zhang Zhe.
He asked questions and noticed Jiang Xuening’s pallor. The Dowager allowed her to stand, and as she rose unsteadily, Zhang Zhe instinctively supported her. Xue Shu brought forward handwriting as evidence, but Zhang Zhe proposed a plan—to match the number of paper sheets, as palace paper was recorded. Jiang Xuening sensed something odd in his words, but Zhang Zhe had his reasoning. He specifically requested the palace maids assist in the room searches.
Upon hearing the news, the emperor also came. Xie Wei instructed the doctor not to tell Yan Lin about his father’s poisoning. Meanwhile, Jiang Xuening took unexpected actions. She hadn’t anticipated that Chen Ying would bring Zhang Zhe into the palace. The Internal Affairs Office confirmed one sheet was missing, and the Empress Dowager asked Jiang Xuening for an explanation.
