The film is adapted from a true historical story, based on the five party members known as the "Five Heroes of Shaoshan", Mao Fuxuan, Mao Xinmei, Li Genghou, Zhong Zhishen, and Pang Shukan, as the character prototypes.
It tells the story of Mao Jiaxuan, an underground party member who was imprisoned in 1933 and engaged in a battle of wits and courage with the enemy to transport a batch of precious medicines to the blockaded Central Soviet Area. He cleverly set up a plot to transmit intelligence through the story, and used the opportunity to eliminate the special envoy Shen Zhuoyi, sacrificing himself to complete the transportation.

Synopsis
In 1933, Jinshan, Shanghai was shrouded in the White Terror by the Kuomintang reactionaries. Communist Party members codenamed "Sir," "Madman," "Doctor," and "Student" were brutally killed while raising, protecting, and transporting urgently needed medical supplies to the front lines. Mao Jiaxuan, the head of the Jinshan Police Sub-bureau who was undercover within the enemy ranks, was also exposed during a rescue operation and unfortunately captured.
Faced with the enemy's torture, threats, and inducements, Mao Jiaxuan remained unyielding, even unto death. After being deceitfully released by the enemy, he cleverly diverted the attention of the surrounding agents by recounting stories from years ago about "Sir," "Madman," "Doctor," and "Student" in his hometown.
