During the psychological training, the team continued to share their personal stories. Yue Kong recounted his past, beginning with Dai Jin’s birthday, when Wang Fan He brought her to visit him. Despite Yue Kong having forgotten her birthday, Dai Jin affectionately dismissed it, looking forward to his upcoming military discharge. However, Yue Kong then revealed his intention to not discharge, but instead apply for the special forces squadron. Dai Jin was deeply upset and left angrily.

Yue Kong found himself unable to contact Dai Jin, making phone calls to Wang Fan He to ask about her whereabouts. When they next met, she was with Wang Fan He. Dai Jin explained that her mother had waited her entire life for her father, only to receive a martyr’s medal in the end.

Growing up constantly fearing the same fate, Dai Jin had decided that the moment Yue Kong chose to become a special forces member, their relationship was over. She then handed him an invitation to her wedding with Wang Fan He. This news devastated Yue Kong, leaving him unfocused during training and failing to notice Qin Feng standing directly behind him. When confronted, Yue Kong admitted he felt he had made a mistake.

Qin Feng, advising him not to doubt himself as a sniper, urged him to confront and resolve whatever was bothering him. Taking Qin Feng’s advice, Yue Kong requested leave to attend Dai Jin and Wang Fan He’s wedding. After hearing Yue Kong’s story, Guo Xiaoxiao and Xiao Yun Jie candidly called him a "scumbag," to which Yue Kong agreed, accepting the criticism and stating he could only wish them happiness now.

It was then Yan Poyue’s turn to share his story, but he initially dismissed it as uninteresting, suggesting everyone should rest. Qin Feng noted Yan Poyue remained distant, like a "cold stone," though he believed Yan Poyue had a soft heart underneath.

The next morning, Yan Poyue woke everyone, confidently stating it was the eleventh day of their confinement, surprising his teammates, including veteran Yue Kong, who wondered how a new recruit could keep track of time so accurately in the dark. Yan Poyue then revealed that he had been imprisoned as a child in an even smaller, darker cellar for an entire month, without a bed or toilet. He had been abducted by drug traffickers seeking revenge on his father.

The cellar held many other children, victims of human trafficking. In that terrifying darkness, with no sound or light, fear and loneliness were magnified. They fought fiercely for meager scraps of food, too afraid to resist or escape, knowing it would only lead to worse beatings. One day, Yan Poyue managed to climb out, but none of the other children followed him. Instead, they screamed for the traffickers to catch him, hoping to be rewarded with a piece of corn.

Yan Poyue ran desperately until he reached a border post and was rescued. The military later found the cellar and freed the other children. His father, believing Yan Poyue was too weak to have been captured, subjected him to rigorous military training from the first grade, including long runs, weighted cross-country, and combat practice.

This experience left Yan Poyue with a hidden phobia: in enclosed spaces, especially with other people, his heart would race, he would sweat, feel uncomfortable, and even struggle to breathe. He never told anyone. Xiao Yun Jie recalled an incident in the confinement cell during their early days in the army that now made sense. Yan Poyue tried to overcome this severe insecurity and distrust by locking himself in dark rooms.

However, the symptoms vanished during Hell Week when he fell into a trap and Guo Xiaoxiao came down to rescue him. As they repeatedly failed to climb out, he realized his panic had subsided, understanding he implicitly trusted Guo Xiaoxiao. He then understood the profound importance of comrades. His current ten-day confinement with the team further confirmed that the symptoms had not recurred. Yan Poyue expressed his gratitude, feeling that his comrades had finally healed him.

With all stories shared, Qin Feng announced the end of the mission, confirming everyone had passed the psychological training. He informed them that the special forces brigade would now arrange specialized training based on their abilities. Meanwhile, the political instability in Region M had led to frequent military conflicts, with government forces and guerrillas encroaching on drug trade routes, significantly reducing Red Scorpion’s operating space. A defeated anti-government group retreated into Red Scorpion territory, leading to clashes.

Kun Sheng and Xing Tian were at odds over how to handle this. Xing Tian advocated for absorbing or eliminating the group, while Kun Sheng favored a peaceful resolution to avoid further complications in an already competitive market, which was already overcrowded. Kun Sheng proposed trading their supplies, food, and cash for the enemy’s outdated weapons to disarm them, believing that a toothless alligator would eventually disperse.

Privately, Xing Tian asked Miya who she would choose if he and Kun Sheng had to die, but she gave no direct answer. She merely observed that Xing Tian was the first to call Kun Sheng "Daddy Kun" and noted Kun Sheng's past kindness. Xing Tian then revealed his own dark history: born near China's border, his parents died from drug addiction.

He crossed into China, where Kun Sheng, then a human trafficker, locked him in a cellar with other children. There, he learned that being strong and ruthless ensured survival and a sense of security. He confessed that when Yan Poyue escaped, he led the other children in shouting for the traffickers to catch him, believing that leaving the cellar would end his "good life."

When Chinese police later rescued them, Xing Tian felt no gratitude, instead longing for the "security" of the well as he was still homeless and desperate. He later re-encountered Kun Sheng, who had once shown him kindness by providing food and money to him and his ailing "father" when Xing Tian was begging. Xing Tian then adopted Kun Sheng as his father, and they fled across the border together, eventually joining Red Scorpion.

Miya responded that she would follow whoever emerged victorious between him and Kun Sheng. Xing Tian proceeded to secretly ally with the anti-government forces and bribed many of Kun Sheng's inner circle. He met with the anti-government group, proposing an alliance to take control of Red Scorpion’s territory and open a new drug route into China, promising immense profits. Kun Sheng, feeling old and content with a stable life for his men, rejected the proposal.

However, Xing Tian countered that their younger brothers desired more than just a peaceful existence. Later, a resigned Kun Sheng acknowledged that his men had made their choice. He asked Xing Tian for a single field to grow poppies, but Xing Tian reminded him of Red Scorpion's tradition of abdication for its leaders. Kun Sheng then asked who would carry out the act. Xing Tian stated he would never forget Kun Sheng’s kindness, hinting at a betrayal.

Kun Sheng was subsequently killed. Before his death, he told Xing Tian that to defeat China’s special forces, he would need to use artillery. Following these events, Team Nine engaged in a counter-terrorism infiltration and explosives removal training exercise. Xiao Yun Jie, in his first mission as a blaster, was tasked with solving a Rubik's Cube connected to wires with a countdown, submerged in cold water. He confessed his lifelong inability to solve Rubik’s Cubes.

After five minutes, he successfully completed the task. Yan Poyue, while congratulating him, playfully suggested he needed to "use his head more." The team then enjoyed a meal of warm buns, sharing them among themselves.
