Yan Poyue, like Li Xiang in the past, possessed a one-track mind, and Li Xiang hoped that such a talented individual would have good luck. The next day, Regiment Commander Liu took Yan Poyue with him to a sentry post. Yan Poyue noticed Liu's bulging bag and discovered it was filled with notebooks containing detailed personal information about frontline soldiers.

Liu explained that close interaction and understanding beyond official reports were crucial for effective leadership and problem-solving, emphasizing the importance of keeping comrades in mind. Liu also recounted his own two failed attempts to join the Cheetah Commando. He then questioned Yan Poyue's motivation, asking whether killing enemies or saving comrades was more important to him in battle. Yan Poyue responded that comrades could protect themselves and medics were available if injured.

Liu criticized him for his self-centered view but nevertheless approved Yan Poyue's participation in the special forces selection, hoping he would find his true calling as a soldier there. Liu stayed at the sentry post for the night, sending Yan Poyue back to bid farewell to his comrades.

Yan Poyue said goodbye to his seniors, stating that he had received orders to continue guarding Hill 713, and that their honor and glory would remain on the battlefield, which they would firmly hold, never yielding an inch of territory to the enemy. He then met Ai Qianxue, who was also leaving to pursue a three-year postgraduate study at a military academy. They wished each other well, hoping to meet again as improved individuals.

Afterwards, Yan Poyue visited Fan Jin, offering him a T-shirt as a gift. Fan Jin, happy for Yan Poyue, urged him to see Li Xiang, who was also departing. Li Xiang, preparing for his transfer, visited the company's hall of honor, reflecting on his time there with deep reluctance. Instructor Chen Min Tao suggested a farewell party, but Li Xiang firmly declined, revealing he had bought a 5 AM train ticket specifically to leave without fanfare.

He reasoned that a new company commander would soon arrive, and everyone needed to adapt quickly, and he did not want to cause any inconvenience. Despite his wishes, the Special Service soldiers lined up to see him off. Overcome with emotion, Li Xiang delivered a poignant farewell speech, marking his last day as the ninth company commander. He hoped they would train diligently under the tenth commander, maintaining national prosperity and defending territorial security.

He also extended his regards to those on active duty and wished all comrades a safe return from future missions. He spoke individually to soldiers like Zhang Tian Yang, Xiao Yun Jie, Gao Zhun, and Zhou Zi Jian, reminding them that wearing military uniforms meant they were comrades and family, and that unity was most important. Yan Poyue was deeply affected by Li Xiang's departure, clutching his luggage.

Li Xiang shared his own experience of being eliminated from special forces selection, advising Yan Poyue to prepare thoroughly, both mentally and physically, for the challenge. Yan Poyue thanked him and expressed hope they would meet again. As a final farewell to Special Service, Li Xiang proposed a basketball game with the soldiers. Yan Poyue later reflected that he would forever remember Special Service because of Li Xiang. The news of military reform spread throughout the regiment.

With Ai Qianxue and Li Xiang gone, Yan Poyue also embarked on a new chapter. The briefing for the Cheetah Special Forces reserve members skill assessment began. It was explained that due to ongoing military reforms and the expansion of the Cheetah Commando, the selection would be a rigorous and highly competitive test against "soldier kings" from various units. Passing would mean enduring the army's toughest training and most dangerous missions, but also immense honor.

Yan Poyue, Xiao Yun Jie, Zhang Tian Yang, Gao Zhun, Zhou Zi Jian, and Xiao Fei rode in a truck. Mid-journey, Lv Tu, the middle captain overseeing the assessment, announced that an SUV with only three available seats awaited them at the next pickup point, suggesting a direct competition for spots. He also introduced "smoke sticks" for those who wished to give up. Yan Poyue quickly recognized this as a psychological trap designed to foster conflict.

He argued that unity was paramount, not internal strife, pointing out that a jeep could accommodate more than just three people. Xiao Yun Jie and Zhang Tian Yang agreed, and even Xiao Fei reluctantly concurred. After Yan Poyue's group used a smoke bomb to lure Lv Tu's SUV, Lv Tu drove his vehicle to their location, only to be ambushed and "captured" by Yan Poyue's group.

Despite Lv Tu's anger and accusations of rule-breaking from another examiner, Yan Poyue skillfully argued that they had fulfilled the conditions by finding the vehicle and controlling the examiners. Impressed by their ingenuity, Lv Tu reluctantly passed all six of them but warned that he would remember their audacious act. Inside the SUV, a still-annoyed Lv Tu explained the next phase of the assessment: 60 participants would form three-person teams through "Free Combination" and engage in mutual confrontation.

Their objective was to reach a central designated area. The two surviving teams would become special forces reserve members. Yan Poyue, Xiao Yun Jie, and Zhang Tian Yang quickly formed a team. Zhang Tian Yang expressed concern for Zhou Zi Jian and Gao Zhun, but Yan Poyue and Xiao Yun Jie assured him that they, being from the same hometown, would likely have already teamed up with Xiao Fei.

Zhang Tian Yang agreed to their team, stipulating that all actions must follow his command. Upon arrival at the next location, the three exhausted soldiers disembarked. Lv Tu discreetly instructed an examiner to keep the ambush incident a secret. Qin Feng, the captain, expressed curiosity upon hearing that Lv Tu had been ambushed by six men.

As expected, Zhou Zi Jian and Gao Zhun had indeed teamed up with Xiao Fei, and Zhang Tian Yang specifically asked Xiao Fei to look after his Special Service comrades. The final briefing detailed the rules for the upcoming 48-hour exercise. Participants were equipped with GPS digital maps to track their own and teammates' locations, and to navigate to the central area. Upon leaving the troop carrier, they were to immediately engage in mutual attack.

Eliminated participants' smoke packs would emit red smoke. Drones would periodically drop blue-smoke-emitting supply packages, which participants had to retrieve by their own skill, as they were not provided with sufficient food. After 48 hours, the two surviving teams in the central area would be picked up. The participants were then deployed to different starting points.

Yan Poyue, Zhang Tian Yang, and Xiao Yun Jie quickly began their movement, checking their GPS, identifying a building at six o'clock with an open view suitable for concealment, and setting up their communications. They remained vigilant, hearing gunshots echoing from seven o'clock, with Zhang Tian Yang securing the window and Xiao Yun Jie the door, as they detected approaching individuals at one o'clock.
