Yan Poyue and Xiao Yun Jie, driven by a desire for glory, decided to force three drug traffickers into the river and capture them alive. The traffickers pretended to be tourists, lulling Yan Poyue and Xiao Yun Jie into lowering their guard, then seized the opportunity to grab their guns. In the ensuing chaos, Yan Poyue killed one of the traffickers.

The heavy body pressed against him, a knife still in its chest, leaving Yan Poyue breathless, and startling Xiao Yun Jie. Xiao Yun Jie remarked on Yan Poyue’s accurate fatal blow, to which Yan Poyue replied it was a trained skill. Xiao Yun Jie then asked about Yan Poyue's first kill, and Yan Poyue admitted his hand felt hot.

Yan Poyue wondered if letting two escape across the river against three knife-wielding traffickers despite having two guns constituted a failure, which Xiao Yun Jie agreed was a major one. A report of gunshots in Zone C reached the Company Commander, who was informed it was Yan Poyue and Xiao Yun Jie. Zhang Tian Yang arrived at the scene, checking on Yan Poyue and Xiao Yun Jie’s injuries, which they dismissed as superficial.

Zhang Tian Yang instructed the rest of his team to pursue the escapees, telling Yan Poyue and Xiao Yun Jie to rest. However, unwilling to accept defeat, Yan Poyue insisted he could still run and fight, with Xiao Yun Jie agreeing, and they followed Zhang Tian Yang despite their injuries. Zhang Tian Yang then took Yan Poyue and Xiao Yun Jie aside, explaining that their assigned containment position was the nameless path, not the river.

Yan Poyue argued that the path was ineffective, calling the deployment an "oversight" and questioning why Zhang Tian Yang couldn't see it. Zhang Tian Yang countered that what they perceived as an oversight might not be one, and questioned their defiance of orders and risky engagement. Yan Poyue justified their actions by saying they had a plan. Zhang Tian Yang warned them that armed drug traffickers were fearless and would take others down with them.

Yan Poyue insisted he was also not afraid of death, echoing a past squad leader's words that if the fearless meet the fearless, death becomes unimportant. Zhang Tian Yang responded that a soldier's duty is to forget personal life and death on the battlefield, but their lives were more important than their "vanity." He expressed frustration at their "roughly understand" attitude and the consequences it created.

Yan Poyue still minimized the risk, arguing that drug traffickers entering such a remote hydropower station "should" not be a big problem. Dismissing their "should" and "roughly" statements as nonsense, Zhang Tian Yang called Li Xiang, the Company Commander, for permission for Squad 1 to search the hydropower station for suspected drug traffickers, which was granted with a warning to be careful.

He then ordered Yan Poyue and Xiao Yun Jie to follow him closely, not to leave without his command. Upon arriving at the hydropower station, Zhang Tian Yang's team encountered Luo Fu Gui, the doorkeeper, who appeared nervous and evasive. It was revealed that drug traffickers were holding his wife and child hostage.

When questioned about suspicious persons and the contents of the building, Luo Fu Gui denied everything and tried to stop Yan Poyue from going upstairs, claiming there was nothing there. Just as Yan Poyue prepared to go upstairs, Zhang Tian Yang spotted drug traffickers aiming from above, quickly pushing Yan Poyue out of the way and getting shot himself, falling unconscious.

As Zhang Tian Yang lay wounded, the drug traffickers ordered everyone to put down their guns, demanding the release of Luo Fu Gui's family. Luo Fu Gui pleaded for his child, offering himself in exchange for his family's safety. Yan Poyue stepped forward, offering himself as a hostage instead, promising that if he returned, he would no longer "roughly understand" situations. He urged his comrades to save the squad leader.

Luo Fu Gui's wife and child were released after the drug traffickers instructed Luo Fu Gui to tightly tie up Yan Poyue. Luo Fu Gui apologized to Yan Poyue as he did so. The drug traffickers then took Luo Fu Gui and Yan Poyue across the Chinese border, planning to kill Luo Fu Gui and sell Yan Poyue. Once across, they forced Luo Fu Gui to dig a grave.

While the drug trafficker mocked Luo Fu Gui, Yan Poyue managed to untie himself and swiftly killed both drug traffickers. With his dying breath, one of the traffickers, Long, warned Yan Poyue that his brother was nearby and they wouldn't escape. Yan Poyue then asked Luo Fu Gui to check the dead traffickers for a phone. Luo Fu Gui found one but noted it had no signal and only one bar of battery.

Yan Poyue, having been shot in the leg and overwhelmed by the stress disorder from his first kill, then drove the traffickers' vehicle with Luo Fu Gui, but soon fainted from emotional distress, despite Luo Fu Gui's attempts to wake him. Meanwhile, Li Xiang, along with Squad 1, pursued them by vehicle. Soon after, Long's brother and his men were searching for them. Long's brother expressed his disapproval of Long working for Red Scorpion, quickly dispatching a scout team.

Upon finding the bodies of the two drug traffickers killed by Yan Poyue, they also discovered booby traps. Long's brother identified one as a "Dakota Fire Hole," explaining how a grenade covered in mud could be triggered by poking the top layer, but only if the top layer of mud was poked. He recognized the sophistication of the trap and immediately knew this was the work of Long's killer.

He then offered a bounty of 100,000 USD, dead or alive, for Yan Poyue. Yan Poyue's leg wound became infected, causing a high fever and pale complexion. He urged Luo Fu Gui to leave, emphasizing that Luo Fu Gui had a family waiting for him, while he, as a soldier, was prepared to die honorably. However, Luo Fu Gui adamantly refused, declaring he wouldn't be human if he abandoned Yan Poyue.

Luo Fu Gui bandaged Yan Poyue’s bleeding wound and gathered dandelion roots, applying them to the injury and making Yan Poyue swallow some for detoxification, insisting it was life-saving. Luo Fu Gui also heard Yan Poyue had no partner and promised to introduce him to one if they made it out. Yan Poyue, still trying to persuade him to leave, questioned Luo Fu Gui's intentions.

Luo Fu Gui revealed his lifelong dream of being a soldier, which was thwarted by his father's illness, leading him to guard his family's land instead. He explained that since Yan Poyue had saved his child and his life, he was honor-bound to protect Yan Poyue in return, vowing to die with him if necessary.

Yan Poyue continued to insist Luo Fu Gui leave him, calling Luo Fu Gui foolish and explaining that even if Luo Fu Gui died, he wouldn't be recognized as a martyr. He stated that as a soldier, his duty was to die for the people in critical moments, and he would do the same for anyone. Luo Fu Gui, however, vowed to stay by Yan Poyue's side, declaring, "If you live, I live. If you die, I die."

Meanwhile, Long's brother and his men encountered more of Yan Poyue's cleverly hidden traps, losing one of their men, Kanbo. Despite entering Red Scorpion's territory, Long's brother was undeterred by the potential conflict, fueled by his desire for revenge. Luo Fu Gui continued dragging the now unconscious Yan Poyue. Suddenly, the phone found earlier rang, indicating a signal.

Yan Poyue, regaining some consciousness, instructed Luo Fu Gui to move around the path they had just taken to find a stable signal. Luo Fu Gui eventually found a spot with signal. Yan Poyue, weak, managed to call Li Xiang, uttering a desperate "Save me" before the phone died. Hope seemed lost again.

As Luo Fu Gui continued pulling Yan Poyue, he realized the makeshift stretcher had become lighter; Yan Poyue had fallen off, attempting to lighten Luo Fu Gui's burden. When Luo Fu Gui returned, Yan Poyue, mustering all his strength, yelled at him to "Scram!" and not "be foolish" by staying.

Luo Fu Gui, however, chose to run in the opposite direction, directly towards the pursuing drug traffickers, provoking them by insulting their fighting ability and daring them to fight without guns, hoping to sacrifice himself for Yan Poyue. Just as the drug traffickers cornered Luo Fu Gui and demanded to know the soldier's whereabouts, Yan Poyue, despite his severe leg injury, arrived. He quickly held Long's brother hostage, demanding the drug traffickers put down their guns.

Long's brother, refusing to be captured, shot himself, the bullet passing through him and hitting Yan Poyue in the left shoulder, causing Yan Poyue to collapse again. Suddenly, a barrage of gunshots erupted from the nearby woods, quickly eliminating all the remaining drug traffickers. A team of Chinese armed police appeared, with one tending to Yan Poyue’s wounds, asking his name and unit. Yan Poyue identified himself as being from Squad One of the Special Service Company, Regiment 247.

The rescuer then assured Luo Fu Gui that they were Chinese Armed Police, confirming they were back on Chinese territory and safe, offering him water. The rescue team reported six enemies killed and one captured, and decided to change their retreat route to accommodate Yan Poyue's inability to walk.

Medical reports later confirmed Yan Poyue was suffering from severe dehydration, multiple soft tissue injuries, and open stab wounds on his left arm and left lower leg, but fortunately, no bone or nerve damage. He was conscious and stable after debridement and sutures, currently sedated and asleep. Zhang Tian Yang, however, sustained a penetrating gunshot wound to his left posterior chest, a concussion, and was still in a coma after surgery, requiring close observation.
