Bai Haoyu efficiently assigns tasks, earning both admiration and diminishing dislike from his subordinates. On a rainy day, he reminisces about his childhood friend, Li Huizhen, recalling her wet, frizzy hair and a secret she asked him to keep. He texts Xia Qiao, expressing his longing for Li Huizhen. Upon seeing the message, Xia Qiao unconsciously curls her hair and imitates Li Huizhen's appearance, only to quickly wet and straighten it when Li Huizhen arrives.
Li Huizhen, feeling suppressed by the ongoing deception, wants to resign. Xia Qiao, however, persuades her not to, emphasizing the rarity of the job opportunity and suggesting she confess the truth to Bai Haoyu. Li Huizhen resists, unwilling to disappoint Bai Haoyu, who currently views her as incompetent.
Bai Haoyu, who returned specifically for Li Huizhen despite having better professional prospects abroad, later emails Li Huizhen (believing it's Xia Qiao) inquiring about her studies, as he hasn't heard back from his previous messages. Xia Qiao then has Li Huizhen photoshop a picture of herself vacationing abroad to send to Bai Haoyu, claiming she is doing well.
When Li Huizhen questions her about the messages, Xia Qiao lies, pretending not to have noticed them, as her feelings for Bai Haoyu begin to change, making her feel guilty and wonder if she's developing true emotions. Li Huizhen, feeling dejected, is comforted by Lin Yimu, who transferred her to the editorial department and now playfully offers her strange, detergent-flavored divination candy. Zhu Ying also reassures her to focus on her own work.
Li Huizhen confides in Xia Qiao again about wanting to resign, but Xia Qiao still insists she shouldn't quit a good job over Bai Haoyu, urging her to persevere for her parents. At work, Bai Haoyu impresses the staff with new tasks related to the Paris fashion show. Vivian suggests he treat the editorial staff to lunch to foster goodwill. Bai Haoyu agrees, providing his card for the employees to use, but coldly refuses to join them.
This detached attitude causes the employees to lose their enthusiasm, and they ultimately decline the invitation, feeling a loss of self-respect. Meanwhile, Han Xue, while shopping, overhears Vivian on the phone with her nephew, the chairman's son, realizing he works in the editorial department. Excited, Han Xue plots to get close to him for career advancement. Separately, Li Huizhen unluckily wears a cheap knock-off of Han Xue's outfit, further irritating Han Xue.
Li Huizhen encounters Bai Haoyu while collecting a delivery. Bai Haoyu, engrossed in his phone, accidentally bumps into a revolving glass door. Li Huizhen approaches to check on him, but he responds with cold remarks and sarcasm, criticizing her work. Li Huizhen, fed up, argues back, accusing him of targeting her. Her passionate outburst momentarily reminds Bai Haoyu of the brave Li Huizhen from his childhood.
However, he quickly dismisses the thought, convincing himself that his real Li Huizhen is abroad, and the person before him is merely messy and incompetent. Realizing Bai Haoyu has changed, an angered Li Huizhen rushes to the director's office to retrieve her resignation letter, deciding she no longer needs to hide from him.
