Wang Xin returned home after work and found Ma Kui, explaining how he chased after the thieves. He suspected a group of performers were working together to pickpocket passengers, but lacked concrete evidence and had to release them. Ma Kui was already upset and severely criticized Wang Xin's impulsive decision to get off the train without authorization. Wang Xin, however, was adamant he would eventually bring the thieves to justice.

Ma Kui became furious, worried that Wang Xin's recklessness would cost him his life one day. Wang Xin argued back, refusing to concede, which provoked Ma Kui to kick him fiercely. Upset, Wang Xin left. Wang Sufang blamed Ma Kui for hitting Wang Xin, and Ma Yan was also displeased with her father's actions. Ma Kui defended his behavior. Wang Xin went to his father, Wang Yongge, to vent his frustration and insisted he wanted a different mentor.

Wang Yongge also felt Wang Xin had acted thoughtlessly. Wang Sufang tried to encourage Ma Kui to reconcile with Ma Yan, suggesting he bring her a cup of milk. Ma Yan was unreceptive and shouted at him, causing Ma Kui to leave feeling disappointed. Wang Sufang kindly reasoned with Ma Kui, reminding him that during the ten years he was away, Wang Xin had taken good care of Ma Yan, like a brother.

She advised Ma Kui not to direct his resentment towards Wang Yongge onto Wang Xin. Wang Sufang believed Ma Kui was not a petty person. Ma Kui explained that he saw Wang Xin's potential as a police officer, but felt his impulsiveness could lead to serious trouble down the line. He kicked him lightly to make him remember the lesson and emphasized his responsibility as a mentor to ensure Wang Xin's safety.

Wang Sufang understood his underlying intentions, and Ma Yan, having overheard their conversation, found some comfort. Niu Dali waited eagerly outside Yao Yuling's home, hoping to walk to work with her. Yao Yuling actively avoided him and instead sought out Wang Xin to accompany her. Ma Yan found Wang Xin to try and apologize for her father's actions, and specifically drove Yao Yuling away. Wang Xin remained unwilling to forgive Ma Kui, leaving Ma Yan feeling helpless.

During a routine meeting, Wang Xin publicly admitted his mistake. Ma Kui, in turn, took full responsibility and spoke in defense of Wang Xin. Afterwards, Captain Hu asked Ma Kui for his opinion on Wang Xin's punishment. Ma Kui recommended a demerit to ensure Wang Xin learned his lesson. Wang Xin attempted to thank Ma Kui, but Ma Kui maintained a strictly professional demeanor, deliberately keeping his distance.

Niu Dali made an effort to be friendly with Changgui and casually inquired about the ten small chickens. Changgui had already suspected Niu Dali of stealing the "Egg Queen" and returning a sick chicken. Niu Dali confessed what happened, admitting he ate the Egg Queen chicken and didn't know why the others died, feeling guilty afterwards and buying the chicks. Changgui forgave him, lightheartedly mentioning he had always wanted to taste the Egg Queen.

Tang Xingguo and his fiancée Li Yuxiu boarded the train in Hacheng, traveling to Ningyang to visit relatives. Li Yuxiu again asked to try on the new watch he had bought. Tang Xingguo discovered a large cut in his bag and realized the watch was gone. As Wang Xin and Ma Kui were patrolling the carriage, Tang Xingguo immediately reported the theft.

He explained he had borrowed money and ration coupons to buy the watch as a bride price for Li Yuxiu. Li Yuxiu repeatedly blamed Tang Xingguo, doubting he had ever bought the watch as she had only seen the box. Tang Xingguo insisted he wasn't lying. A man sitting nearby quickly got up and left. Ma Kui followed him to the toilet, where he confronted the man and searched him, but did not find the watch.

In the process, Ma Kui injured the man's wrist. Li Yuxiu was convinced Tang Xingguo had lied and threatened to break off the engagement. Wang Xin's attempts to persuade her were unsuccessful. Distraught, Tang Xingguo tried to kill himself with a fruit knife from a nearby passenger. Wang Xin struggled to stop him, but Tang Xingguo managed to injure his own wrist. Wang Xin took Tang Xingguo to the dining car to get his wound bandaged.

Li Yuxiu softened and showed concern for Tang Xingguo. Ma Kui quickly led Wang Xin away to give the couple some privacy. The passenger suspected of stealing the watch, named Hou Sanjin, filed a complaint against Ma Kui, listing twelve accusations and demanding compensation for emotional distress. Captain Hu advised Ma Kui to apologize to the passenger. Wang Xin made a comment praising Ma Kui's strong grip, which irritated Ma Kui.

Captain Hu called Hou Sanjin in for a private talk with Ma Kui, while he and Wang Xin listened from outside the door. Hou Sanjin claimed his wrist was broken and presented a medical bill for Ma Kui to cover. Ma Kui remained convinced Hou Sanjin was the thief and offered to take him home to care for his injury. Hou Sanjin refused, admitted his wrist was not broken, and tore up the bill.

He withdrew his claim and suggested they could be friends, but Ma Kui insisted he be honest first. Hou Sanjin abruptly ended the conversation, stating he no longer wanted the money.
