My True Friend Episode 9 Recap
> My True Friend Recap
Mu Yunping expressed his sincere gratitude to Cheng Zhenzhen and Shao Pengcheng for saving his son, Mu Mu. He explained that Mu Mu is usually with a nanny, and as a young child, he often throws temper tantrums, which Mu Yunping admitted he lacks patience for. He felt this incident was a close call and a serious mistake on his part.
He told Cheng Zhenzhen that he would cover all her medical expenses and requested a leave of absence for her. When a police officer asked who the child's father was, Mu Yunping stepped forward to give his statement. Shao Pengcheng, however, told Mu Yunping that he wouldn't wait for him, as he was taking Cheng Zhenzhen home. Before leaving, Mu Yunping again profusely thanked Cheng Zhenzhen, who simply said it was nothing.
On the way home, Cheng Zhenzhen questioned Shao Pengcheng's attitude towards Mu Yunping. Shao Pengcheng defended himself, saying he wasn't wrong to criticize a parent who doesn't care for his child, and then called Cheng Zhenzhen an idiot for getting herself injured while saving someone. Cheng Zhenzhen insisted it wasn't something she could control. Shao Pengcheng mischievously poked her injured ankle, making her yelp.
As Shao Pengcheng carried her, Cheng Zhenzhen had an idea, suggesting that since the "Love and Family" logo on their uniforms helped Mu Mu identify them, the company could establish a system where lost children could seek help at any branch. Shao Pengcheng was impressed by her suggestion. They continued to bicker playfully on their way, with Shao Pengcheng teasing her about her "bold and daring" nature. After settling Cheng Zhenzhen at home, Shao Pengcheng went to get her water.
Just then, Cheng Zhenzhen received a call from Hao Meili, who gleefully announced that she had successfully sold Mrs. Bai's house. Cheng Zhenzhen was surprised, and Shao Pengcheng immediately grabbed the phone, angrily accusing Hao Meili of showing off and stealing their client. Hao Meili simply told them they had worked hard and should keep it up, inviting them to dinner before hanging up. Shao Pengcheng was furious, calling Hao Meili unscrupulous for stealing clients.
Cheng Zhenzhen felt disappointed, acknowledging that while Hao Meili’s actions might be logical for business, it was emotionally upsetting. Shao Pengcheng tried to comfort her, reminding her that they were growing as agents and that losing one case wouldn't define their entire career. He then playfully suggested that her real reason for being upset wasn't about the house, but about Jing Ran leaving soon. This made Cheng Zhenzhen suddenly remember her appointment with Jing Ran.
Checking her phone, she saw a message from Jing Ran saying he had waited for a long time but assumed she was busy and had left. Cheng Zhenzhen was filled with regret. Shao Pengcheng, seeing her distress, decided to leave her alone. Cheng Zhenzhen quickly sent a text message to Jing Ran, apologizing and explaining that she had encountered an emergency that prevented her from coming.
Jing Ran replied that it was fine, and he was relieved to know she was safe. He hoped they could meet in the future. Despite his understanding, Cheng Zhenzhen remained sad, knowing that Jing Ran would soon leave the country with Aunt Bai, and she wondered when they would ever meet again. That night, Aunt Bai was sitting in a swing chair, looking at the stars, when Jing Ran brought her a cloak.
She expressed her reluctance to sell the house and blamed herself for Jing Ran's distant nature, feeling that she had put too much pressure on him in his childhood. Jing Ran reassured her, saying that in his heart, she was the best mother in the world. Meanwhile, Mu Yunping informed the company chairman, Shao Dong, that Jing Ran's house had been sold by an agent from Flower Garden Real Estate.
He then showed Shao Dong a video of Shao Pengcheng and Cheng Zhenzhen rescuing Mu Mu, expressing his deep gratitude for their heroic actions. Shao Dong noted Cheng Zhenzhen's name. Aunt Bai decided she wanted to thank Cheng Zhenzhen and Shao Pengcheng in person before she left. Jing Ran offered to accompany her.
Aunt Bai, still hoping to set them up, mentioned that Jing Ran's date had canceled and praised Cheng Zhenzhen's reliability, urging him to find a girlfriend like her. Jing Ran, however, swiftly ended the conversation. They first went to the Flower Garden Real Estate office but were told Shao Pengcheng was out on business and Cheng Zhenzhen was home sick. So they proceeded to Cheng Zhenzhen’s apartment.
Cheng Zhenzhen was happy to see them, and subtly explained that her sprained ankle was the reason she missed her appointment. Jing Ran, still unaware that Cheng Zhenzhen was "True Friend," commented that traveling abroad was quite easy these days and suggested she could visit her friend overseas once her injury healed.
Aunt Bai then explained that while Hao Meili had sold the house, she was truly grateful for all the effort Cheng Zhenzhen and Shao Pengcheng had put in and for how they had cared for her. Cheng Zhenzhen assured her that she had learned a lot from her during their time together. Aunt Bai presented a knitted sweater for Shao Pengcheng and a necklace for Cheng Zhenzhen.
Cheng Zhenzhen initially refused the necklace, finding it too precious, but Jing Ran explained that it was a sentimental item from his late father and represented his mother's sincerity, asking her to accept it as thanks for taking care of his mother. When Aunt Bai tried to help Cheng Zhenzhen put on the necklace but couldn't see well, Jing Ran stepped in, causing Cheng Zhenzhen to blush and lower her head.
As they chatted, Aunt Bai noticed a graduation photo on a shelf and excitedly pointed out to Jing Ran that Cheng Zhenzhen had graduated from the same university as him. Jing Ran confirmed her graduation year, noting he was a senior when she started.
Aunt Bai, surprised, started to question why Cheng Zhenzhen chose to work in real estate after graduating from such a good school, but Jing Ran quickly cut her off, reminding her that Cheng Zhenzhen needed to rest. As they left, Aunt Bai invited Cheng Zhenzhen to visit her in Italy. Back home, Jing Ran, inspired by the day's events, began drawing design sketches late into the night. Aunt Bai, seeing him still awake, asked what he was making.
Jing Ran replied it was a small gift for Cheng Zhenzhen. Aunt Bai immediately assumed romantic intentions, but Jing Ran quickly clarified, showing her the video of Cheng Zhenzhen's heroic act of saving Mu Mu. He praised Cheng Zhenzhen for her bravery and explained that she hadn't even mentioned her injury when they visited. Aunt Bai was touched by Cheng Zhenzhen's character and pleased by her son's interest in others.
In the days that followed, Shao Pengcheng diligently looked after Cheng Zhenzhen, cooking her meals daily and making sure she took her medication. One day, a delivery arrived for Cheng Zhenzhen. Seeing that it was from Jing Ran, Cheng Zhenzhen eagerly opened it. Shao Pengcheng, noticing her excitement, became jealous and demanded to know why she was still in contact with Jing Ran, especially since Mrs. Bai's house had already been sold.
Inside the package, Cheng Zhenzhen found a card that read, "A little gift, although it's small I hope you like it. Get well soon! A gift for heroine, Cheng Zhen Zhen. From Jing Ran." Along with the card, there was a meticulously crafted small house model. Cheng Zhenzhen was thrilled, but Shao Pengcheng scoffed, calling it "just a toy" and claimed he could make something much better. Cheng Zhenzhen retorted that he was just "sour."
She then remembered Aunt Bai's gift, the sweater, and went downstairs to give it to Shao Pengcheng, reminding him that Aunt Bai cared for him too. Seeing her difficulty with her injured leg, Shao Pengcheng helped her back upstairs. Meanwhile, at kindergarten, Ivan was ridiculed by other children for reading an English book during break time. Angered, Ivan pushed another child, Bill, who fell and hit his head, losing consciousness. Ivan, frightened, ran away from the kindergarten.
At a team meeting for the Garden Store, Zeng Huimin emphasized the importance of sales performance. Afterward, she called Shao Pengcheng aside to remind him that the end of the month was approaching, and both he and Cheng Zhenzhen still had zero sales. She sternly told him that being a hero didn't make up for their lack of results, and questioned what he was doing every day while Cheng Zhenzhen was recovering. Shao Pengcheng, frustrated, decided to contact old clients.
He called Mr. Yang, only to learn that Ivan was missing. Panicked, Mr. and Mrs. Yang were searching for him. Shao Pengcheng, recalling how Ivan had previously looked longingly at a playground, immediately set off to search for him there. Ivan was found alone on a swing, tearfully apologizing to his parents and Bill for pushing him.
