My True Friend Episode 8 Recap
> My True Friend Recap
Shao Pengcheng and Cheng Zhenzhen chatted at a milk tea shop. Shao Pengcheng deliberately provoked her, suggesting that she had loved someone unrequitedly for many years, yet he was unaware of her existence. Cheng Zhenzhen responded defiantly, asking who said the person didn't know she existed, and then told him to drink his drink. Meanwhile, at Jing Ran's home, Aunt Bai highly praised Cheng Zhenzhen, particularly her smile and kindness.
Jing Ran playfully told his mother to stop her matchmaking attempts, stating that Cheng Zhenzhen was not his type and she was too eager for a daughter-in-law. Aunt Bai admitted her desire for a Chinese daughter-in-law and urged him to find a girlfriend quickly. Jing Ran then mentioned he had a girl he could talk to, sparking Aunt Bai's interest. However, she questioned why she had never seen him on a date, accusing him of lying again.
Mei Li's friend dropped her off, clearly having a crush on her. However, Mei Li had to step aside to take a call from Mr. Jin. She asked him if he had made up his mind about buying a particular house. Mr. Jin revealed he had found another house and wanted her to come over immediately to give her opinion. Mei Li promptly agreed, which visibly displeased her friend.
Seeing her go, the friend offered to be available anytime if her meeting ran late. Later, Mei Li arrived at Mr. Jin's apartment. She immediately asked which house he had found. Mr. Jin, after taking a sip of wine, presented the apartment as a "golden house for his mistress" and asked her what she thought. Mei Li, with a distressed expression, claimed he was not treating her well at all.
She tearfully explained the hardships faced by girls like her striving in a big city, stating she only wanted to earn a commission by introducing houses, not to be viewed as an object of affection. Mr. Jin, taken aback by her emotional outpouring, eventually agreed to buy the house, on the condition that they would "take a step forward in their relationship" once her performance was complete.
Mei Li responded that if he bought the house, they would simply be friends. Mr. Jin noted Mei Li's intelligence and high emotional quotient, remarking she was similar to his powerful wife, whom he dared not displease. After work, Shao Pengcheng, bored, added Cheng Zhenzhen as a friend online, posing as Jing Ran. Cheng Zhenzhen quickly saw through his deception, recognizing his ID from a previous interaction. Shortly after, the real Jing Ran messaged her, inviting her to meet.
Thrilled, Cheng Zhenzhen enthusiastically accepted. However, Shao Pengcheng also sent a casual dinner invitation at the same time. In her excitement, Cheng Zhenzhen accidentally mixed up the messages, sending a direct rejection to Jing Ran. Realizing her mistake too late, she angrily blacklisted Shao Pengcheng's account. Jing Ran, after receiving the rejection, was later questioned by his mother, Aunt Bai, about who he was chatting with online.
Aunt Bai expressed her high regard for Cheng Zhenzhen's character, warning Jing Ran about dating people met online. The following morning, Jing Ran sent another message, proposing to meet that night. Cheng Zhenzhen was overcome with excitement, though also tinged with worry. In a moment of elation, she tossed her phone into the air.
She then reflected on their first meeting in university, realizing that the "Zhen Xin Zhen Yi" persona she presented online was, in reality, her — the somewhat clumsy real estate agent who had long admired him. During a flashback, she recalled Jing Ran bandaging her foot after a dance accident, telling her her dance was beautiful and she should go to the hospital.
She wondered if he would be disappointed to discover her true identity, a stark contrast to the goddess he might envision. The next day at work, Shao Pengcheng confronted Cheng Zhenzhen, pulling out her earphones while she was watching useless videos. He criticized her for watching "useless videos" during work and for blacklisting him the previous night, stating she was rude and unhelpful and needed to reflect on her actions.
Cheng Zhenzhen retorted that he was annoying and distracting her, and that he had only himself to blame for impersonating Jing Ran. Shao Pengcheng insisted he was just trying to make her happy and invited her to dinner that night. With a smile, Cheng Zhenzhen declined, informing him she already had plans. That afternoon, Mei Li visited Aunt Bai, bringing flowers.
She assured Aunt Bai that she understood her reluctance to sell her good house to "that type of person" (Mr. Jin's mistress). Mei Li promised to find a worthy owner and asked Aunt Bai to trust her with the sale, which Aunt Bai agreed to. Later, Mei Li met with Mr. Jin's mistress, pretending to be concerned about the upcoming house signing. She subtly probed the mistress about Mrs. Jin, expressing worry that the wife might interfere.
The mistress, unaware of Mei Li's true intentions, revealed that Mr. Jin's success was due to his powerful wife's family, and that Mrs. Jin always went to the Anman Private Club to swim every Wednesday. Armed with this information, Mei Li went directly to the club and approached Mrs. Jin. Mei Li explained that Mr. Jin wished to give Mrs. Jin a surprise: a new house, and he wanted her to sign the contract that very afternoon.
To convince her, Mei Li showed Mrs. Jin Mr. Jin's signature on a document and explained how she knew her secret location. Mrs. Jin, unsuspecting, agreed to sign the contract that afternoon. Following this, Mei Li brought Mrs. Jin to Aunt Bai's house, secretly telling Aunt Bai that this was Mr. Jin's "real wife." Aunt Bai, curious about how Mei Li orchestrated this, was told by Mei Li to leave everything to her.
When Mr. Jin arrived for the signing, Mei Li dramatically called out Mrs. Jin, who then saw Mr. Jin's mistress. Mei Li quickly introduced the mistress as the "company's financial affairs officer, Miss Zhang." Unsuspecting, Mrs. Jin found the house quite nice and appreciated the "surprise." Mr. Jin then instructed "Officer Zhang" (the mistress) to handle the contract details with the real estate agency.
Mrs. Jin playfully questioned if Mr. Jin was feeling guilty, but Mei Li defended him, assuring Mrs. Jin of Mr. Jin's sincerity. Convinced, Mrs. Jin agreed to sign the contract. After the successful signing of Aunt Bai's house, Mei Li returned to the Garden Store and boasted to the store manager.
She claimed she hadn't intentionally "stolen" the deal from Cheng Zhenzhen and Shao Pengcheng, but had acted quickly for the company's benefit after a prior promise had been made with a client. Cheng Zhenzhen went shopping for clothes at a mall, with Shao Pengcheng secretly following her. He even subtly signaled to a saleswoman not to recommend overly revealing outfits.
Cheng Zhenzhen tried on a pink dress recommended by the saleswoman, and when she emerged from the fitting room, Shao Pengcheng was utterly stunned by her beauty. The saleswoman commented to Shao Pengcheng that his "girlfriend" looked great in the dress. Cheng Zhenzhen overheard this and confronted Shao Pengcheng, asking if he was following her. Despite his stammering denial, she decided to take the dress.
While Cheng Zhenzhen was still arguing with Shao Pengcheng, she noticed a woman covering a child's mouth, who was sitting on the ground crying. Shao Pengcheng asked what she was looking at, but Cheng Zhenzhen, finding the situation peculiar, walked over. The child, named Mu Mu, saw Shao Pengcheng's "Love and Family" uniform and stated that it was his father's uniform, and the woman was not his mother.
The woman attempted to coax Mu Mu into going home, but Cheng Zhenzhen's suspicions grew, and she questioned the woman. Becoming impatient, the woman's lies unraveled. In a panic, she shoved Mu Mu away. Cheng Zhenzhen rushed to catch the child, spraining her ankle in the process, while Shao Pengcheng chased and apprehended the woman. It was then discovered that Mu Mu was the son of Mu Yunping.
Mu Yunping arrived at the hospital, expressing immense gratitude to Shao Pengcheng and Cheng Zhenzhen for rescuing his son, explaining that Mu Mu's mother had divorced him two years prior, and he often left his son with a nanny due to his busy work schedule. Cheng Zhenzhen added that the woman was a professional child trafficker, who was targeting children with nannies. Mu Yunping apologized for Cheng Zhenzhen's injury and offered to cover her medical expenses and arrange time off work.
