My Dear GuardianĀ Episode 39 Recap
> My Dear GuardianĀ Recap
Zhuo Mei Qin's heart condition is dire; the bypass inserted into her heart is blocked, her cardiac function is weak, and the ventricular wall is dangerously thin, risking rupture at any moment. A heart transplant is her only and final hope. Tian Yong has been identified as a donor, with his heart, lungs, and corneas available, though his liver and kidneys are damaged due to past drug use.
While other organs have been matched, the critical decision for the heart recipient remains, with Zhuo Mei Qin being the most urgent patient among seven waiting. However, police information reveals she is the mother of Pei Yu, a member of the criminal organization Tian Yong infiltrated as an undercover agent.
This raises a heated debate among the medical staff, with some arguing against donating Tian Yong's heart to a criminal's mother due to the perceived cruelty to Tian Yong and his memory. Others, like Xia Chu, maintain that Zhuo Mei Qin is simply a patient and deserves to be saved, regardless of her son's actions. Ultimately, after much discussion, a vote is held, and the majority, including a hesitant Xia Chu, agree to proceed with the transplant.
As Tian Yong is wheeled into the operating room, Team Thunder, including Rao Feng, forms two rows in the hospital corridor, saluting him as a tribute. The medical team assigned to the heart retrieval also bows in respect. Dr. Zhang Yichi arrives to offer external assistance. During the procedure, the surgical team discovers a USB drive inside Tian Yong's body, which Tian Yong had retrieved from Lu Wen Long's study. They immediately hand it over to Officer Rao Feng.
Eight hours later, the transplant surgery concludes successfully. Afterward, Liang Muze asks Xia Chu who received Tian Yong's heart, but she apologetically states she cannot reveal the recipient's identity due to strict confidentiality protocols for organ donations. Liang Muze, however, surmises that Zhuo Mei Qin was the recipient, noting he saw both her and Tian Yong being wheeled into the operating room around the same time.
Xia Chu, visibly emotional, confesses that despite the surgery's success, she feels more distraught than ever before, prompting Liang Muze to comfort her with a hug. Meanwhile, Zhang Yichi encounters Chen Mengzhen and Xiao Jun near the elevators as he prepares to leave. Chen Mengzhen explains they are there to bid farewell to Tian Yong. Noticing Xiao Jun, Zhang Yichi offers to treat them to a meal, and Xiao Jun, prompted by his mother, eagerly agrees, stating he is hungry.
Over their meal, Zhang Yichi learns that Chen Mengzhen plans to move to Beijing because the first draft of her script has been approved, and a former classmate wants to sign her. She also mentions that her retired parents will manage her bookstore, and she has found a boarding school for Xiao Jun in Beijing.
Their conversation is interrupted by nearby doctors openly gossiping about Zhang Yichi's past relationship with Dr. Li Juan, speculating on the reasons for their breakup, particularly mentioning his Hepatitis B diagnosis and a "married lady with a son" who allegedly caused their split.
Unable to tolerate their disrespectful comments, Zhang Yichi confronts them, reminding them that Chen Mengzhen's late husband was a martyr who sacrificed eight years prior, and that their peace and privilege to gossip are a result of such sacrifices. He tells them to mind their own business before leaving abruptly with Chen Mengzhen and Xiao Jun. As they depart, Chen Mengzhen questions why he and Li Juan never reconciled.
Zhang Yichi reflects that both he and Li Juan were too cautious and analytical, overthinking the potential pain and lack of outcome, which ultimately led to their separation. Chen Mengzhen, unfazed, suddenly leans in and kisses him, then tells him her flight is scheduled for next Friday afternoon. Zhang Yichi wishes her a safe journey, while Xiao Jun encourages him to take action.
Officer Rao Feng, having examined the USB drive found in Tian Yong's body, confirms he has amassed substantial criminal evidence against Lu Wen Long. He re-interrogates Pei Yu, urging him to confess. Pei Yu first inquires about his mother, Zhuo Mei Qin, and Rao Feng informs him that her surgery was successful, and she is expected to be discharged from the ICU in a week.
Rao Feng then reveals that law enforcement has definitively identified Pei Yu through various means, including foreign military recognition from an old drill, hospital records indicating Zhuo Mei Qin gave birth to twins, and a password (910218, Pei Yu's birthday) found in his company's basement, confirming he is indeed Pei Yu, the twin brother who survived the crossfire eight years ago, while Zhuo Ran died.
Confronted with this, Pei Yu admits to being the founder of City of Desires and Scary Pirate, explaining he created the platform out of profound loneliness, believing that if everyone became a criminal, the act of committing crimes would no longer be a solitary journey. Rao Feng challenges his self-serving philosophy, asserting his own motivation to eliminate evil is to protect his wife and daughter, ensuring they live in peace and safety.
When Rao Feng suggests that Zhuo Mei Qin, upon waking, would be devastated by his actions, Pei Yu shows a rare moment of vulnerability, pleading with Rao Feng not to upset her. Seizing the opportunity, Rao Feng demands Lu Wen Long's whereabouts. Pei Yu, though initially uncertain of the exact location, agrees to lead them to Lu Wen Long's secret hiding spot within the country.
Pei Yu guides the authorities to Lu Wen Long's hiding spot, where he confronts Lu Wen Long, who is already awaiting him. Lu Wen Long questions the delay in Pei Yu's arrival after obtaining the intelligence, and Pei Yu claims he needed to evade the Chinese armed forces pursuing him, having found a scapegoat. Pei Yu asks about his mother's condition, and Lu Wen Long falsely assures him that she is well and waiting for him.
Lu Wen Long then signals his subordinate, Hu. Pei Yu bitterly confronts Lu Wen Long, recounting how he treated Lu Wen Long as a spiritual father after Pei Yongyan's death, risking his life, killing for him, all for the sake of his mother's well-being. Suddenly, the signal is jammed, indicating the police have discovered their location and are launching their operation.
Pei Yu then accuses Lu Wen Long of wanting him to meet the same fate as his father, who died without a resting place. Lu Wen Long maintains that Pei Yongyan was killed by the Chinese armed forces, but Pei Yu reveals that the Chinese military told him it was Lu Wen Long who shot his father.
Enraged, Lu Wen Long's men raise their weapons, but Pei Yu swiftly disarms and kills them, then shoots Lu Wen Long in the leg, demanding to know his mother's true location and expressing his exhaustion with being controlled by her. Lu Wen Long, desperate, confesses that he killed Pei Yongyan, claiming Pei Yongyan tried to steal his goods and deserved his fate.
As the police close in, Lu Wen Long, gravely injured, attempts to manipulate Pei Yu by offering him everything he owns if they escape, confirming that he truly killed Pei Yu's father, Pei Yongyan. Pei Yu, seemingly accepting the offer, acknowledges his "inheritance."
