My Dear GuardianĀ Episode 30 Recap
> My Dear GuardianĀ Recap
Xia Chu was distraught over Zhang Yichi's recent incident. Her father, Xia Guang Yuan, called, asking about her well-being and then demanding Liang Muze's home address. He announced he would wait for her there, instructing her to pack her belongings and immediately move back to Dong'an. When Xia Chu protested, he warned that if she didn't resign and return, he would visit her workplace daily and call her superiors.
Overwhelmed, Xia Chu pleaded for more time to sort out her work affairs, begging her father to stop pressuring her. Liang Muze, who had just arrived to pick her up, confirmed he had overheard their entire conversation. Later, as Liang Muze drove Xia Chu home, she confided in him that she wanted to apply for a transfer back to Dong'an.
She explained her profound exhaustion, not just physically but emotionally, particularly disheartened by the fact that Dr. Zhang, despite his brilliant surgical skills, would never stand in an operating theatre again. This made her question the value of her profession. Liang Muze listened silently, then advised her to pursue what she truly believed in, but cautioned her not to let anyone else dictate her life decisions if her desire to leave was not truly her own.
Back at Liang Muze's residence, Xia Chu began packing her belongings. Liang Shaoxue, noticing Xia Chu's intent to move, quickly alerted Liang Muze. He rushed in, preventing Xia Chu from leaving. Liang Muze accused her of faking her desire to quit the medical profession, asserting that she was merely trying to convince herself due to the pressure from her father.
He called it an act of avoidance, stressing that some life challenges must be confronted head-on, or she would surely regret fleeing. Xia Chu vehemently denied running away, insisting that transferring and resigning were her own, authentic decisions as an adult. She lashed out at him for being condescending and labeling her, asking who he was to dictate her life, even declaring she never wanted to see him again.
The argument escalated, with Liang Muze repeatedly demanding to know who she thought he was to her. Fed up, Liang Shaoxue intervened, calling their quarrel an "idol drama." She urged Liang Muze to simply confess his love and ask Xia Chu to stay, citing his efforts to learn baking for her as proof of his affection. To Xia Chu, Liang Shaoxue pointed out her obvious love for Liang Muze, reminding her of their earlier intimate moments.
She emphasized the almost zero odds of finding true love and implored them to be honest and cherish their rare connection. Hearing this, Liang Muze asked Xia Chu if her father was still in Ningjiang. Upon confirmation, he took her to speak with Xia Guang Yuan. Upon meeting Xia Guang Yuan, Liang Muze stated directly that Xia Chu enjoyed being a doctor and that the immense pressure she felt, primarily from him, was forcing her decision to transfer and move.
Xia Guang Yuan angrily dismissed Liang Muze's words and demanded he leave, but Xia Chu tried to calm her father. Liang Muze continued, explaining that while parents wish for the best, they don't always know what is truly best for their children. He reiterated that Xia Chu "radiates happiness" when healing others, and that transferring during her first year as a resident would be a missed opportunity, making it difficult for her to return to the profession later.
He questioned if she would genuinely be happy with such a decision before leaving. Xia Guang Yuan, feeling lectured, expressed his annoyance. Xia Chu, however, defended Liang Muze, expressing gratitude that he spoke his mind, even if it meant risking her father's displeasure. She then followed Liang Muze, inquiring if her father would disown her for his words. Liang Muze downplayed the situation, suggesting her father was likely anxious due to the recent explosion incident.
When Xia Chu expressed a desire to follow him to his military camp, Liang Muze gently clarified that her wish wasn't genuine; she was disoriented after Zhang Yichi's sudden departure, and recent events combined with parental pressure were clouding her judgment. He advised her to rest, assuring her that after a good night's sleep, she would be relieved to still have the chance to wear her military fatigues and white coat.
He shared his own experience of devastation after Luo Liang left, indicating he understood her feelings. He added that the kind of love she desired was not one where he would simply take care of her, and he would never let her regret her choices. Moved, Xia Chu embraced him and declared, "Let's be together." Liang Muze responded, "We'll always, always be together." Unbeknownst to them, Zhuo Ran observed their intimate moment from a distance.
That same evening, Tian Yong, working undercover, met with Long Yi at Ms Hua's Hot Pot Restaurant. To solidify his fabricated underworld identity, Tian Yong took Long Yi to meet the supposed "Jiu," who was played by Rao Feng. For several days, Long Yi mingled with Tian Yong and Jiu, showing no signs of suspicion. Tian Yong then proposed that he meet with the owner of the goods. Meanwhile, Zhuo Ran and Long Yi reported to Old Master.
Old Master questioned Long Yi's swift success in finding a buyer after his recent release by Chinese police. He then pressed Zhuo Ran to capture Xia Guang Yuan, emphasizing that the previous explosion and a dead police officer were insufficient compensation for his losses; he needed Xia Guang Yuan or at least his daughter. He warned Zhuo Ran not to keep him waiting. Zhuo Ran then sought out Tang Lin.
Tang Lin admitted that he couldn't obtain more in-depth experimental data from Professor Xia Guang Yuan's computer, as it wasn't stored there. Zhuo Ran then proposed that Tang Lin invite Professor Xia to Isaia, where their organization had a lab and manufacturing facility that could meet all their research needs. Tang Lin expressed surprise at the idea of an overseas lab. Zhuo Ran, however, insisted that Tang Lin deliver a wedding invitation to Professor Xia.
He then blackmailed Tang Lin, threatening to automatically send an email containing graphic details of Tang Lin's arrest for soliciting prostitution to his girlfriend and research institute if he failed to persuade Professor Xia to accompany him to Isaia. Zhuo Ran promised that if Tang Lin succeeded, the compromising email would never be sent, and his financial troubles with his girlfriend would magically resolve. Tang Lin realized he was caught in a trap.
Simultaneously, Xia Guang Yuan was under investigation by the university council. He was informed that a large sum of money had been transferred to his private overseas account by someone named Francis, whom he didn't recall. He also faced scrutiny over an email sent from his private account to Tang Lin, which he denied sending, suspecting a hacker intrusion. The university demanded all his project materials and announced a professional audit of the project's funds.
Xia Guang Yuan was furious, feeling it was a coordinated effort to remove him, and demanded to speak directly with Chairman Qin. His wife suggested he comply, but Xia Guang Yuan refused to simply leave, believing his detractors cared little for his research. Tang Lin, riddled with guilt, came to him, apologizing for the email incident, though Xia Guang Yuan reassured him that "green-eyed monsters" were responsible for his current predicament.
Tang Lin subtly broached the idea of Xia Guang Yuan resigning or pursuing opportunities abroad. Xia Guang Yuan firmly rejected this, stating his lifelong commitment to traditional medicine research in China, born from his mother's illness. He viewed his work not just as a personal interest but a profound responsibility, making him unwilling to develop his career overseas. He promised to shield Tang Lin and the other young researchers from the ongoing academic politics.
Tang Lin then revealed he was getting married in Isaia and wanted Xia Guang Yuan to be his witness, claiming it had been long planned but he couldn't mention it earlier due to the investigation. Despite his surprise, Xia Guang Yuan agreed to attend, noting that Isaia was visa-free and travel arrangements were handled. Xia Guang Yuan's wife expressed her surprise at Tang Lin's sudden announcement, while Xia Guang Yuan decided against buying a gift, opting to give money instead.
She then suggested Xia Chu return home to accompany him, but Xia Guang Yuan dismissed the idea, citing Xia Chu's busy schedule. He complained about Xia Chu's association with Liang Muze, expressing strong disapproval. His wife questioned his persistent animosity towards Liang Muze, reminding him that he was Mu Min's son. Xia Guang Yuan remained resolute in his dislike, whether for Liang Muze personally or for his military profession, insisting his wife support his stance regarding Xia Chu.
At Isaia airport, Tang Lin and Xia Guang Yuan arrived. Tang Lin excused himself to the restroom, leaving Xia Guang Yuan unattended. Someone discreetly tampered with Xia Guang Yuan's luggage. Tang Lin then sent a message confirming their arrival. Soon after, customs police approached Xia Guang Yuan, demanding his passport and insisting he open his suitcase. To his shock, they found a bag of cocaine.
Xia Guang Yuan vehemently protested, denying any knowledge of the drugs and insisting they were not his, as the police seized him. Meanwhile, Liang Muze's Special Forces Brigade was preparing for a significant redeployment, which he was treating as a critical tactical exercise. Separately, Xia Chu sent a text message to Liang Muze, informing him that Liang Shaoxue might have gone to his camp looking for Tian Yong.
