> My Dear GuardianĀ  Recap

Zhang Yichi, having received a steamed cake from Chen Mengzhen and a durian cheese roll from Li Juan (purchased from Joy Bakery), consults Xia Chu on which she would prefer. Xia Chu, addressing him as Teacher Zhang, offers a detailed analysis: the durian cheese roll is initially stunning but quickly becomes cloying, whereas the steamed cake, though unassuming, boasts a light flavor, satisfying chewiness, and is more practical as a main course.

Zhang Yichi, citing his preference for lighter tastes as he ages, takes the steamed cake and gives the durian cheese roll to Xia Chu. Later, as she enjoys the durian cheese roll, Xia Chu messages Liang Muze, asking his preference between the two, and asserts her ambition to conquer the world with a scalpel. Meanwhile, Liang Muze leads his team in Vitalik, engaged in joint training and a competitive exercise with local forces.

They navigate challenging jungle terrains, demonstrating their tactical prowess and teamwork. The competition culminates in securing and igniting a torch, an objective Liang Muze's team achieves flawlessly, securing their victory. The opposing captain commends the Chinese soldiers, acknowledging their potential to learn from their hosts' survival and tactical training in unique conditions, yet also suggests his own army could learn from China's disciplined forces.

In the hospital, Xia Chu continues to gain experience under Zhang Yichi, including learning critical post-operative care procedures for a patient who successfully underwent cardiac tamponade treatment. Later, an emergency case arrives: a patient admitted with a high fever. His medical history reveals severe aortic regurgitation, and recent gum bleeding raised suspicions of infective endocarditis. A flashback shows Zhang Yichi had previously diagnosed his severe aortic regurgitation and advised surgery, but the patient, citing work obligations, opted only for medication.

Now, the patient suffers ventricular fibrillation. Despite Zhang Yichi's desperate efforts at resuscitation, aided by Xia Chu and Xiao Xiao, the patient cannot be saved. His family is informed of his death. Overwhelmed with guilt, Zhang Yichi confesses to Xia Chu that he failed to insist on admitting the patient for surgery despite knowing the severity of his aortic regurgitation during the previous visit.

He admits he was afraid that his persistence might lead to misunderstanding, trouble for himself or the hospital, or even jeopardize his career. Hearing the cries of the patient's wife, he feels profound shame, lamenting that he compromised his core medical principle of saving lives at all costs. He confesses his sole motivation has always been "that the sick would get treatment and doctors would be respected," but in moments like this, he feels utterly useless.

Xia Chu simply asks if he regrets his decision. Before Zhang Yichi can answer, the Head of Department calls him for an emergency surgery on a patient with a dissecting aneurysm, instructing him to be the first assistant and asking Xia Chu to monitor patient number three, who was hit in the chest by a car.

After Zhang Yichi departs, Xia Chu receives a message from Liang Muze: he doesn't like either durian cheese roll or steamed cake; he prefers the multigrain steamed buns she makes. Later, Liang Muze shares a drink with the opposing team's captain, who describes their relationship as both friends and rivals.

The captain, having rarely experienced defeat in his military career, including being first at hunter school, jokingly offers to fight Liang Muze again, acknowledging their current draw in the team competition. He then mentions a former comrade, Pei Yu, whom he considers his only defeat before Liang Muze. The captain reveals that Pei Yu now works for a Private Military Company (PMC), once helped a drug dealer evade capture, and even shot him.

The captain expresses regret over his own military service, viewing it as wasted time away from a normal life, resulting only in "wounds and useless medals," especially after learning about the lucrative salaries in the private sector. Liang Muze counters that if their service leads to the happiness of more people, then all sacrifices are worthwhile. The captain dismisses this as "brainwashing," to which Liang Muze retorts that the captain is also "brainwashed for money."

Liang Muze then observes that both the captain and Pei Yu are "born soldiers." Liang Muze then excuses himself to the restroom. Soon after, gunshots ring out, and the captain rushes in to assist. Liang Muze attempts to capture the assassin for questioning, but the captain fatally shoots the assailant, stating that "The mission failed. He's gone back to China."

Separately, Zhuo Ran, upon receiving a call from someone named Rao Zhi, reacts with anger, seemingly frustrated by Liang Muze's survival. Upon Liang Muze's return to the troop, a parrot suddenly lands on his vehicle. The parrot then flies directly onto Tian Yong's shoulder, seemingly forming an instant bond. The parrot surprisingly scolds the Brigade Commander and even calls him an "idiot," speaking fluent English, and has "RPO" marked on its body, suggesting it might belong to an organization.

Dong Zhigang notices the parrot's injured claw, instructing Tian Yong to take it to Wu Junyi at the medical room for treatment, then to contact the Forestry Bureau and Forestry Police. Dong Zhigang then takes Liang Muze to his office to discuss the recent assassin attack. Liang Muze confirms that no assassins were left alive, and local police failed to identify the culprits or gather any useful evidence before their departure.

While the attack was attributed to local armed forces, no group claimed responsibility. They speculate on how the attackers identified them, considering they had been in closed training since their arrival and had no opportunity to offend anyone. Dong Zhigang then advises Liang Muze to invite Chen Mengzhen and Xiao Jun to stay for New Year's Day. As New Year's Day approaches, Xia Chu's department head, Mr. Ma, offers her a choice of working one or two shifts.

Xia Chu opts for one day, which means she will be assigned to conduct medical check-ups for soldiers at the Special Force Brigade. Seizing the opportunity, Xia Chu readily agrees, viewing the trip as an excursion. Mr. Ma confirms her schedule. Later, Xia Chu encounters Zhuo Ran outside the hospital. He informs her that the stitches from his arm injury have been removed. He invites her to a newly opened Japanese restaurant to celebrate his recovery and New Year's Day.

Xia Chu declines, explaining that her taste has changed and she wishes to try other cuisines. Zhuo Ran speculates if her change in preference is "because of Liang Muze." Xia Chu bids him farewell and politely declines his offer to walk her home, preferring to walk alone.
