Xiao Wudi got jealous, thinking that Nan Xing was unwilling to resolve her emotional block because she liked Mao Xiaojun. Nan Xing explained that she liked Xiao Wudi more. She recalled the past—she and Mao Xiaojun were childhood friends, but starting in middle school, Mao Xiaojun began to distance himself. She always thought he disliked her and never confessed her feelings. One day, her father took her to the lab to work overtime.

When Mao Xiaojun brought them a late-night snack, he discovered a fire in the lab. He rescued Nan Xing first but failed to get out when he went back for her father—both perished in the flames. Thinking of all this, Nan Xing couldn't hold back her tears. She felt deeply guilty—if Mao Xiaojun had survived, he would have turned out even better than Lu Zichen.

She could never forget the night she watched Mao Xiaojun fall into the fire, utterly powerless to save him. Nan Xing choked up as she spoke. Xiao Wudi told her that Mao Xiaojun liked her; his coldness was just his way of expressing affection. Nan Xing thought Xiao Wudi was just trying to comfort her and didn’t believe he had dreamt of Mao Xiaojun.

Xiao Wudi gave it serious thought and realized that the task Zhen Xianzi had assigned him was to help Nan Xing overcome her emotional trauma. He understood that completing the task would mean his disappearance. He spoke with Lu Zichen and asked for his opinion. Though Lu Zichen didn’t fully understand what Xiao Wudi meant, he said that if completing the task meant disappearing from this world, he would still do it if it were him.

Lu Zichen updated his novel, and Ye Qing noticed that the story seemed to be a message he wanted to convey to her. Readers commented on the newly updated novel, discussing the characters. In the story, Su Yu and Ma Leng closely resembled Ye Qing and Lu Zichen. Nan Xing completed a contract authorization and wanted to take a few days off to relax with Xiao Wudi.

Lu Zichen suggested that Nan Xing resign—he believed she had the talent to be a writer and wanted to sign her as the company’s new author. However, she would need to quit her job as his assistant. Nan Xing was thrilled and readily agreed. Xiao Wudi spoke frankly with Nan Xing’s mother, revealing that he was a character from Nan Xing’s novel and couldn't stay in this world.

At first, her mother didn’t believe him, but after witnessing his martial arts skills, she was convinced. Xiao Wudi expressed his desire to cure Nan Xing’s panic disorder and hoped her mother could help. He believed only he could untangle Nan Xing’s emotional knot, and some words had to be said out loud. Nan Xing submitted her resignation as assistant to the CEO and officially became a writer.

Lu Zichen instructed her to hire a new assistant as soon as possible and gave her full authority over the process. Ye Qing congratulated Nan Xing on becoming a writer. The two had a meal together, encouraging each other. When talking about dreams, Ye Qing said hers was to pursue her dream with someone she loved. Nan Xing advised her to cherish every moment with the one she loved and not overthink things.

Back home, Nan Xing discussed work with Lu Zichen while Xiao Wudi pretended to read and eavesdropped. Lu Zichen planned to move out to give Nan Xing space for writing. Nan Xing told him about Ye Qing, and Xiao Wudi, upon hearing this, insisted she wasn’t allowed to choose anyone else. Xiao Wudi made Nan Xing a love-themed breakfast. Even when she was about to go to work, he clung to her, worried he might not get another chance.

They shared their affection sweetly, making Lu Zichen envious. Ye Qing, inspired by Nan Xing’s words, decided to pursue her dreams again. She returned to X Culture Company to interview for the assistant position. Nan Xing, Hu Jiaojiao, and others were the interviewers. Everyone was happy to see Ye Qing back. Lu Zichen was surprised to hear that the new assistant was Ye Qing.
