Lighter&Princess Episode 16 Recap
> Lighter&Princess Recap
That evening, Xu Lina invited everyone to dinner, and they all went. Xu Lina brought up Senior Fang Zhijing and spoke of him with disdain, clearly disliking him. Coincidentally, Fang Zhijing came over to greet them, deliberately striking up a conversation with Zhu Yun. Zhu Yun looked visibly shocked. Though Fang Zhijing outwardly praised Li Xun and the others' Lan Guan project, he clearly didn’t take it seriously, criticizing the biggest problem as lagging.
After Fang Zhijing left, Zhu Yun caught up with him and questioned whether he still remembered Xiaoyan. Fang Zhijing calmly replied that he did and would go to her grave to pay respects. Just then, Fang Zhijing’s girlfriend arrived, which deeply hurt Zhu Yun—especially because Fang Zhijing shamelessly provoked her, declaring that he came this time to win first place. That night, after returning, Zhu Yun looked at a photo of her and Xiaoyan and cried.
She hoped Li Xun would participate in the competition with her, but Li Xun refused, sensing that Zhu Yun was carrying a heavy emotional burden. Feeling down, Zhu Yun went to drink with Ren Di and shared the entire story about Xiaoyan. Zhu Yun and Xiaoyan had been close friends, and Zhu Yun knew about Xiaoyan’s relationship with Fang Zhijing. But when their relationship was exposed on the school forum, it threatened Fang Zhijing’s guaranteed admission.
So he took chat logs out of context and made it look like Xiaoyan had been unilaterally infatuated with him. Zhu Yun confronted Fang Zhijing and accused him of being irresponsible and smearing Xiaoyan’s name. But Fang Zhijing said that if Xiaoyan loved him, she should’ve been willing to bear some of the criticism. Xiaoyan overheard those cruel words and, unable to handle the psychological pressure, committed suicide.
When she was being resuscitated in the hospital, Zhu Yun was there and watched as her close friend left the world. She saw Xiaoyan’s mother cry in devastation. Zhu Yun also saw Fang Zhijing hiding behind the scenes and ran out to confront him. But Fang Zhijing insisted Xiaoyan’s death had nothing to do with him—it was because she was mentally weak—and that even showing up at the hospital was already more than enough from him.
Those words deeply wounded Zhu Yun. Zhu Yun once again asked Li Xun to join the competition, but Li Xun didn’t want to take part in something so boring and refused. To beat Fang Zhijing and give him a lesson, Zhu Yun approached Gao Jianhong to join the project, and Gao Jianhong agreed readily. However, the project hit a bottleneck and couldn’t break through. Gao Jianhong also hoped Li Xun could join.
Zhu Yun had no choice but to negotiate with Li Xun—she offered her entire salary and promised to work for him in the future to repay the debt, essentially paying 100,000 yuan for him to defeat Fang Zhijing. Li Xun agreed, signed the agreement, and put it in his pocket. When Li Xun and Zhu Yun returned to the base, Gao Jianhong had just overcome the technical challenge and was cheering.
Li Xun suggested adding him to the project, but Gao Jianhong instinctively refused. Unexpectedly, the next moment, Li Xun hacked into his program and said that only by following him could they achieve results. Gao Jianhong was so infuriated he couldn’t speak and went to find Professor Lin. After hearing what happened, Professor Lin also felt that Li Xun went too far. Gao Jianhong asked whether only Li Xun could win awards, implying that he had no chance.
Professor Lin shared his own experience—he hadn’t been the top student in class, but stayed on at the school and became someone envied by others. Meanwhile, others who had left went to Zhongguancun and became leaders in the field. So who’s to say who’s the best or worst? Life is long—don’t let temporary wins or losses trap you.
Gao Jianhong knew he couldn’t defeat Li Xun right now, but he hoped one day everyone would see that he could have been even better without Li Xun. He deleted all the programs he had previously written. The next day, Li Xun said they wouldn’t be using Gao Jianhong’s code, comparing it to swimming in a cotton-padded jacket—it doesn’t feel wrong at first, but eventually proves fatal. This time, Gao Jianhong didn’t argue.
He agreed with Li Xun, saying everything would be rewritten, though he felt very uncomfortable inside. That night, Zhu Yun stayed late with Li Xun at the base and persuaded him to treat Gao Jianhong better. Seeing that Zhu Yun didn’t feel well, Li Xun joined two stools to make a makeshift bed for her to rest. Zhu Yun reminded Li Xun again that he must win the competition.
Though he didn’t turn around, Li Xun seemed to sense Zhu Yun’s pain. He joked that he had to fulfill the job since he took her money. Zhu Yun promised that if Li Xun won the competition, she would do anything he wanted. Li Xun asked her to write that down as a formal promise. Taking the note, he returned her salary card, saying that the note was more important than the money.
