In a Class of Her Own Episode 8 Recap
> In a Class of Her Own Recap
Following the incident at the tavern that left them facing expulsion, Feng Chengjun visits the establishment to investigate. A waiter confirms that Lei Zexin and Wen Bin had intervened to help a young woman. He clarifies that the tavern's statue was not deliberately broken; a bully had pushed Wen Bin, causing him to accidentally knock it over. The shopkeeper, knowing he couldn't get compensation from the bullies, had then pressured the two scholars.
Feng Chengjun's initial attempts to find other witnesses are unsuccessful. Meanwhile, at the academy, Wen Bin is disheartened. Yu Lexuan approaches her with advice, explaining that Lei Zexin, also known as Lei Ao, is not swayed by force but responds to a softer approach. He suggests Wen Bin act pitifully to appeal to Lei Zexin's empathy and demonstrates the required whiny tone for her to practice.
Wen Bin puts the plan into action, seeking out Lei Zexin and pleading with him in the pitiful voice Yu Lexuan taught her. Initially repulsed, Lei Zexin attempts to flee, but Wen Bin persistently follows. She expresses her fear of expulsion and the immense disappointment it would cause her sister, who has always believed in her. Overwhelmed by her emotional appeal, Lei Zexin agrees to cooperate on the condition that she stops speaking in such an exaggerated manner.
Feng Chengjun continues his search for witnesses and is led to Han Shumin by her maid, Xiao Qin. Han Shumin confirms she was at the tavern and clarifies that Lei Zexin and Wen Bin had acted justly to punish bullies, readily offering to provide a testimony. She then tries to give Feng Chengjun a personal embroidered pouch, but he politely refuses, stating his current focus is solely on his studies, not romantic matters.
Han Shumin accepts his refusal, clarifying that she simply wishes for them to be close friends. With Han Shumin's testimony, Feng Chengjun proves to the academy's faculty that Lei Zexin and Wen Bin were acting righteously. Principal Feng grants them a probationary period, stipulating that they must maintain satisfactory academic performance in all subjects to avoid expulsion. Wen Bin is deeply grateful, urging Lei Zexin to thank Feng Chengjun.
However, Lei Zexin dismisses Feng Chengjun as a hypocrite seeking popular support and a "pathological liar," declaring he owes him no gratitude. Determined to reform, Wen Bin faces skepticism from a student prefect who accuses her of cunningly befriending Feng Chengjun and gaining Lei Zexin's protection. When Lei Zexin, angered, challenges the prefect, Wen Bin reminds him they are on probation and persuades him not to engage.
She then insists that Lei Zexin attend the afternoon class taught by the new Mr. Ding Ruo Yang, promising his unique teaching style might interest him. In class, Mr. Ding's methods are indeed unconventional. He presents an exquisite jar and tells the students to fill it with their "sincerity" to pass. After the students murmur about him soliciting bribes, he proceeds to perform magic tricks with the jar.
Only Feng Chengjun objects, urging Mr. Ding to stop the tricks and teach properly. Mr. Ding praises Feng Chengjun, explaining the lesson's point: wisdom lies not in answers, but in the courage to question. He passes Feng Chengjun and fails everyone else for their passivity. Later, Principal Feng is dismayed to learn his precious jar was broken by Mr. Ding for "teaching needs."
With a weekly exam looming, Wen Bin reminds a frustrated Lei Zexin of their probation and their failure in Mr. Ding's class. They must practice for the music test, but the flute is Lei Zexin's weakness. Their initial attempts are atrocious, producing sounds described by others as "music of Hades" and "demon shrieks," keeping the entire dormitory awake. The desperate students beg Feng Chengjun, a skilled flutist, to intervene. Feng Chengjun agrees, first correcting Wen Bin's technique.
He explains to a surprised Wen Bin that her previous words about not imposing one's will on others made him reflect, and he has decided to stop interfering in her affairs. Impressed, Wen Bin acknowledges his integrity, despite his unpredictable moods. After Wen Bin quickly learns from Feng Chengjun, she in turn begins teaching Lei Zexin. Through this shared practice, their playing gradually improves to a tolerable level, to the great relief of their fellow scholars.
