The Emperor arrived at the prison to retrieve Feng Jiu. Si Ming, present at the scene, urged Feng Jiu to admit to an illicit affair with Crown Prince Yuanzhen. This confession, Si Ming insisted, was the only way for Di Jun to successfully overcome his mortal love tribulation, allowing Feng Jiu to regain her immortal body and return to Green Hill.
However, as Feng Jiu met the Emperor's loving and trusting gaze, she found herself unable to utter words that would wound him so deeply. The Emperor, seeing her hesitation, stopped her, assuring her that he trusted both her and Yuanzhen. The Emperor led Feng Jiu back to his chambers, where he embraced her tightly. He apologized profusely, taking responsibility for drawing her into the treacherous palace intrigues.
Feng Jiu was deeply moved, realizing that the Emperor had kept his promise to always believe her. This unwavering trust made it even harder for her to betray him and complete Di Jun's tribulation. She lamented that she was viewed as an evil enchantress who had made His Majesty a muddleheaded leader, but the Emperor dismissed such talk as mere rumor for future generations, stating he had no regrets.
Later, Feng Jiu stared into a mirror, catching a glimpse of the Emperor's reflection, only for it to disappear when she turned. Si Ming observed her, inwardly distressed. He knew Feng Jiu's affection for the Emperor had become uncontrollable. If Di Jun's love tribulation wasn't concluded swiftly, both Si Ming and Feng Jiu faced severe punishment upon their return to the Heavenly Palace.
Si Ming tried to reason with her, reminding her that even if the Emperor died in the mortal realm, he would simply revert to his immortal form as Di Jun in the Nine Heavens. Feng Jiu, however, explained that Si Ming didn't understand. In the mortal realm, the Emperor was her husband, but in the Nine Heavens, Di Jun was merely a cold and distant High God who would not treat her with the same affection.
Si Ming stressed that the six hardships of life, including old age, illness, resentment, love, separation, and refusal, were all essential for the tribulation. He warned that if the Emperor discovered their manipulation of his mortal fate, they would commit a grave sin. Feng Jiu tearfully confessed that she couldn't bear to inflict such hardship on him, but Si Ming insisted it was out of her hands, a matter of fate.
He reminded her that these brief two decades in the mortal realm were but a blink of an eye for an immortal, and all mortal fates should conclude in the mortal realm. Meanwhile, the Emperor sat lost in thought, clutching the arrow that Feng Jiu had taken for him. A eunuch, who was Si Ming in disguise, rushed in to report that Crown Prince Yuanzhen had suddenly collapsed at the Soup Pond. The Emperor immediately set off.
At the Soup Pond, Yuanzhen was indeed preparing for a bath when Feng Jiu, clad in a seductive red dress, appeared. Yuanzhen was visibly alarmed, repeatedly warning her that if his father were to see them, both their heads would be forfeit. As he nervously retreated, he bumped into the Emperor, who had just arrived. The Emperor, composing himself with great difficulty, instructed Feng Jiu to return to her palace at once.
He promised that what happened tonight would remain a secret among the three of them and that he would not hold it against her. Feng Jiu's heart ached with the realization that their love was destined for an unhappy end. As the Emperor turned away, he suddenly coughed up a mouthful of blood and collapsed unconscious.
The Empress swiftly ordered Feng Jiu to be taken to death row, accusing her of unfaithfulness and vile deeds despite having saved the Emperor twice. Feng Jiu, as she was dragged away, desperately cried out for the Emperor to believe her, asserting her innocence and the difficult position she was in. Si Ming visited Feng Jiu in her cell, finding her utterly despondent. Just then, the mournful toll of the funeral bell rang out.
Both Si Ming and Feng Jiu were startled. Si Ming found it inexplicable, as the Book of Fate indicated Di Jun had another eighteen years to live in the mortal realm. He deduced that perhaps Di Jun's mortal love tribulation had been too severe, leading to his premature end. Si Ming declared he must return to the Nine Heavens to report, while Feng Jiu cried out, desperate to know if she would ever see the Emperor again.
Di Jun’s mortal tribulation passed like a dream. He awoke in the Nine Heavens after a little over a month in heavenly time, clutching the arrow that Feng Jiu had kept safe for him in the mortal realm. The experience had deeply affected him, his heart no longer possessing its former icy tranquility as he recalled his profound connection with Feng Jiu.
He remembered promising her that he would remarry her according to mortal customs and ensure no one in the palace would trouble her again. Si Ming rushed to apologize for the error in the Book of Fate that led to Di Jun's early return, eighteen years short of his appointed mortal lifespan.
Di Jun questioned how such a mistake could occur, to which Si Ming suggested it might be due to Di Jun's exalted immortal status or the intensity of the six hardships he experienced in the mortal realm. Di Jun then asked if Si Ming was implying his love tribulation with Bai Fengjiu of Green Hill had been too difficult. Just then, Ye Hua arrived, having learned of Di Jun's return.
Di Jun noted that everyone in the Nine Heavens seemed to be rushing to see him. Ye Hua stated he only had two questions. First, he asked if the Mystical Mushroom was essential for immortals to transfer cultivation. Di Jun confirmed that it was. Ye Hua then inquired if Di Jun had ever fought the four mythical beasts of Yingzhou in the Eastern Sea.
Di Jun replied that he had not, but recounted how the Fox Emperor Bai Zhi of Green Hill had battled the beasts three hundred years prior to obtain the Mystical Mushroom to save Bai Qian's life. Though successful, Bai Zhi was severely wounded, a testament to the beasts' power. Di Jun remarked that few in the Four Seas and Eight Wildernesses could match the Fox Emperor in cultivation, and suggested that Ye Hua might try.
As Ye Hua prepared to leave, Di Jun unexpectedly asked if his inquiries were related to Mo Yuan. Ye Hua, surprised, asked how Di Jun knew. Di Jun revealed that he not only knew Ye Hua's intentions regarding Mo Yuan but also that Bai Qian of Green Hill was the seventeenth disciple of Kunlun Void, Si Yin.
Ye Hua then pressed Di Jun, asking why he had never revealed Mo Yuan's whereabouts despite the Heavenly Tribe searching for him for over 70,000 years. Di Jun explained that the Battle of Ruoshui was indeed brutal, but after 70,000 years, even the most tragic events fade. He confessed that at the time, he couldn't comprehend the depth of Si Yin's grief as she cradled Mo Yuan's bleeding body by the Ruoshui River, screaming in pain.
He had even perceived her attachment to life and death as unbecoming of an immortal. However, having recently experienced the six hardships of the mortal realm, he now understood such profound sorrow. Di Jun suggested that Mo Yuan, who cherished Si Yin above all, would surely find peace being buried in Si Yin's homeland, by her side daily, rather than in the Sea of Innocence.
Ye Hua, deeply affected by these words, admitted he couldn't know Mo Yuan's thoughts, then excused himself to attend to other matters. Zhe Yan and Bai Qian journeyed to the Western Sea. Bai Qian confessed she knew little about the Western Sea Water Monarch, only that he and his father were known for their low-key demeanor.
Zhe Yan chuckled, relating how this "low-key" monarch had, six hundred years ago, widely posted notices across the Four Seas and Eight Wildernesses, offering a hefty reward to anyone who could cure his eldest son, Die Yong. Despite the reward, no one had succeeded for centuries. It was through a fortunate connection, where Bai Zhen had befriended Die Feng, the Water Monarch's second son, that Zhe Yan was persuaded to intervene.
Only Zhe Yan, with his unparalleled medical skill, had discerned that the War God Mo Yuan's soul lay dormant within Die Yong. Bai Qian felt it was a serendipitous twist of fate that her Senior Brother had inadvertently led them to their master. Zhe Yan warned Bai Qian that caring for Die Yong would be arduous, but Bai Qian immediately replied that it was her duty to care for her master, not a hardship.
Upon their arrival, the Western Sea Water Monarch respectfully greeted Zhe Yan, who then introduced Bai Qian as his immortal envoy, specially tasked with treating Die Yong's illness. As they were led towards Die Yong's chambers, Bai Qian felt a surge of anxious anticipation, a mix of eagerness and apprehension after a seventy-thousand-year wait.
At the entrance to Die Yong's Fuying Hall, Bai Qian, wary of potentially encountering her Senior Brother Die Feng and unsure how to face him, requested the Water Monarch to enforce a strict rule: for the duration of her treatment, no one, including the Water Monarch himself, was to approach the hall to ensure a peaceful environment for the healing spell.
The Water Monarch promptly agreed, assuring her that Die Feng was currently at Kunlun Void and would not return for several days. Entering the chamber, Bai Qian expected to feel some familiarity with Die Yong's aura or to sense a trace of Mo Yuan's presence. Instead, she found a frail and sickly young man, his immortal aura weak and flickering. Her heart sank; she struggled to reconcile this gentle, languid figure with the formidable War God Mo Yuan.
After Zhe Yan departed, Bai Qian employed a soul-searching technique. Deep within Die Yong's soul, she finally discovered Mo Yuan's slumbering primordial spirit. Overcome with emotion, she knelt, tears streaming down her face, tearfully greeting her master. She had lived in fear for 70,000 years that her hope would be in vain, and now, finally seeing her master's primordial spirit, the burden on her heart was lifted.
Die Yong, confused, asked why she was crying, thinking it was because he was incurable. Bai Qian merely replied she was happy. Bai Qian realized that Die Yong's fragile body alone would require an impossibly long time—perhaps seven or eight millennia—to fully recuperate Mo Yuan's primordial spirit. To expedite her master's awakening, she understood she would need the Soul-Gathering Lamp. She resolved to journey to the Nine Heavens and personally request the sacred artifact from the Heavenly Monarch.
As Bai Qian pondered how best to secure the Soul-Gathering Lamp from the Nine Heavens, a distinguished guest arrived at the Western Sea. Bai Qian, accompanying the Water Monarch to the Grand Hall to greet the visitor, was surprised to find it was none other than Ye Hua. Alone in a chamber, an unspoken tension filled the air. Bai Qian, still resentful over Ye Hua's past words about Ah Li and Su Su, attempted to leave.
Ye Hua quickly moved to block the door, trapping her. He pressed her against a wall, his eyes burning intensely, and kissed her. In the midst of their struggle, his gaze fell upon a three-inch scar over her heart. His eyes lingered there, a somber expression on his face. He gently placed his hand over her heart, his complexion visibly paling, and asked, with a burning intensity, "In your heart, do I have a small place in it?"
Bai Qian was at a loss for words. After a long moment, Ye Hua slowly withdrew his hand. He quietly stated that since she had waited 70,000 years for that person to return, there was naturally no room for him in her heart now; it was merely his fantasy. Bai Qian, taken aback, then asked how he knew about Mo Yuan's impending return, a secret known only to Zhe Yan, her Fourth Brother, and herself.
Ye Hua turned his head away, responding indifferently that Zhe Yan had informed him. He then questioned her plans once she acquired the Soul-Gathering Lamp. Realizing Zhe Yan had revealed everything, Bai Qian decided there was no need to conceal her intentions any longer. She declared that she would go to Yingzhou to obtain the Mystical Mushroom, then transfer half of her own cultivation to Die Yong, which would allow her master to awaken in less than three months.
Upon hearing that Bai Qian intended to acquire the Mystical Mushroom to save Mo Yuan, Ye Hua gazed into her eyes and, with grave emphasis, asked, "Are you crazy? For him, don't you even want your life?" Bai Qian paused, then firmly stated that regardless of the ferocious beasts guarding the Mystical Mushroom, she must obtain it, especially now that her master was so close to returning.
She acknowledged the danger, reminding him that even her father, the Fox Emperor, had been severely wounded in his quest for the Mystical Mushroom. Seeing Ye Hua's continued silence, Bai Qian chose that moment to say, "Ye Hua, you are here at the right time. I have something to tell you. Why don't we cancel our engagement?" Ye Hua stumbled back slightly, asking, "What did you say?"
Bai Qian, unable to meet his gaze directly, explained that the engagement was originally formed to save face for both Green Hill and the Heavenly Tribe after Sang Ji's broken betrothal. She believed it was fair for them to cancel it now. She also cited her need to transfer cultivation to her master, which would prevent her from enduring the celestial trials required for the Heavenly Monarch and Monarchess alongside him.
Ye Hua, without looking at her, simply instructed her to come to his room that night, revealing that the Soul-Gathering Lamp was with him, not in the Heavenly Palace. As he walked towards the door, he murmured, "How much do I owe you? And how much do you owe me? I'm afraid it's already become a mess and can't be cleared up." Bai Qian stood frozen, unable to move.
