Early in the morning, Ding Zhitong came to work and heard from Qin Yu that the year-end bonus was quite generous this year. She happily messaged Gan Yang, hoping to share the good news. However, Gan Yang was too busy with social engagements to check his phone. Ding Zhitong felt something was off and messaged him multiple times, but he still didn’t reply.

It wasn’t until late at night, after Gan Yang returned home from his socializing, that Ding Zhitong called again to share the news about her bonus. With this bonus, she could finally pay off all her debts, and from then on, live a good life with Gan Yang, run together, and truly enjoy life. Gan Yang forced a smile through his inner pain, but after hanging up, tears fell uncontrollably.

Song Mingmei planned to go abroad and especially arranged a meal with Qin Chang. She had hoped Qin Chang would ask her to stay, but instead, he only wished her a smooth journey. Since Song Mingmei wanted to become a successful woman before turning 35, Qin Chang could only offer his blessings. After returning, Song Mingmei was heartbroken and cried in Ding Zhitong’s arms. She felt that Qin Chang had no intention of keeping her.

Yet she truly liked him and hoped he would wait for her return. But since he didn’t even ask her to stay, she couldn’t bring herself to say she wanted him to wait. Ding Zhitong comforted Song Mingmei but apologized because she also had to go on a business trip the next day and wouldn’t be able to see her off. Song Mingmei didn’t mind, as she wasn’t fond of farewell scenes anyway.

The next day, Song Mingmei went to the airport alone. Qin Chang also came to see her off. Unable to resist, he opened his arms and hugged Song Mingmei, only hoping she would become the person she wanted to be. After a deep embrace, they went their separate ways. Xu Chenxi heard that the president’s assistant had resigned and came to offer her help to Gan Yang.

Gan Yang immediately asked her to stay and handed over some accounts for her to review. Xu Chenxi suddenly realized the accounts were too complicated for her to sort out, so she thought of calling Ding Zhitong, believing she must help Gan Yang. Gan Yang happened to see this and stopped Xu Chenxi at once, saying he didn’t want Ding Zhitong to know about their family matters.

Ding Zhitong had already suffered once through debt repayment—he couldn’t let her go through that again. At this point, Xu Chenxi had accepted that Gan Yang and Ding Zhitong were together and believed Ding Zhitong wasn’t a gold-digger. Otherwise, she would’ve had Gan Yang pay the debts long ago and wouldn’t have suffered so much herself. Gan Yang felt comforted that Xu Chenxi could praise Ding Zhitong—if Ding Zhitong knew, she would surely be happy.

Gan Yang went to a company in Hangzhou to collect a debt. Before leaving, he handed over the company seals to Xu Chenxi and specifically told her not to give them to Gan Kunliang. Coincidentally, Ding Zhitong and Qin Yu were also at this company for business but did not see Gan Yang. While Gan Yang was collecting the debt, Boss Cai tricked him and lured him into an underground garage, where he was beaten and threatened.

Qin Yu and Ding Zhitong happened to come down to get their car and, seeing the fight, quickly called the police and shouted that the police were coming, scaring off those attacking Gan Yang. Worried about getting into trouble, Qin Yu pulled Ding Zhitong away from the scene. Ding Zhitong had repaid all her debts and told her mother that once Gan Yang returned, she would bring her to Shanghai to meet him.

At that moment, Gan Yang was right behind her, silently watching. When he saw Ding Zhitong nearly get hit by a car, he shouted “Watch out! ” in panic. Ding Zhitong turned around but didn’t see Gan Yang, who lied and said a child in front of him almost fell. Ding Zhitong believed him. That night, Gan Yang stood downstairs at Ding Zhitong’s place, looking at the light from her window, but didn’t have the courage to go up.

Meanwhile, Ding Zhitong was packing up, planning to find Gan Yang the next day and visit Liu Yongjuan together. But the next morning, the police station called Gan Yang—Gan Kunliang had reported him for intentional injury. Fearing that Gan Kunliang might hurt Ding Zhitong, Gan Yang called her and broke up with her. Afterwards, Gan Yang drank heavily to vent his pain.

Xu Chenxi came to comfort him and tried to take the bottle from his hands, getting her clothes wet in the process. While she went upstairs to change, Ding Zhitong arrived. She held Gan Yang’s hand, hoping they could face things together. But when she saw Xu Chenxi coming downstairs wearing Gan Yang’s clothes, she mistakenly thought the two were already together and that this was why Gan Yang wanted a breakup—that he had betrayed their love.

Heartbroken, Ding Zhitong transferred the rent to Gan Yang and took back the IOU, then went outside alone and cried her heart out. Gan Yang also sent Xu Chenxi away and sat alone in the room crying. All the beautiful memories between him and Ding Zhitong flashed before his eyes. Ding Zhitong tore up the IOU.
