Tong Xiaoyou prepared a meal for Lu Xingcheng, who noticed a Fashion Cup flyer on the table. He questioned why she, already an established designer, would want to participate in such a minor competition. Tong Xiaoyou explained that the competition held great significance for her, as it was at the Fashion Cup entrance that she first met Lu Xingcheng, who was much more cheerful and open back then, unlike his current withdrawn self.
She also observed that he clearly avoided discussing his mother. Lu Xingcheng, feeling that she was overstepping, retorted that she had not experienced what he had and couldn't understand his feelings. He declared himself happy and unwilling to change, leading to an abrupt end to their dinner. Later, Jiang Yan found a dejected Lu Xingcheng at a bar.
She congratulated him on saving Yan Ge from acquisition, noting that he should be celebrating with Tong Xiaoyou, which indicated they had argued. Jiang Yan offered to keep him company, but Lu Xingcheng declined, only taking one drink before leaving. Meanwhile, Mu Yang, praising Tong Xiaoyou's delicious cooking, remarked that marrying a good cook was every man's dream. This comment visibly upset Wen Xi, prompting Mu Yang to quickly apologize and volunteer to do the dishes.
Wen Xi, Mu Yang, and Song Ruru discussed Lu Xingcheng's emotional barriers, advising Tong Xiaoyou not to try and change him, but rather to give him time to figure things out on his own. Tong Xiaoyou, however, expressed her determination to try. Alone in his design studio, Lu Xingcheng flipped through his "Ni Ji" design sketches.
He envisioned his mother wearing the "Ni Ji" dress and relived a memory of his younger self interacting with a young Tong Xiaoyou at the Fashion Cup, where the dress was admired. He cried like a child during this hallucination. Tong Xiaoyou lay awake that night, troubled, wondering why the once cheerful Lu Xingcheng had become so cold and distant. The next day, Lu Xingcheng visited his mother's cemetery, telling her he had dreamt of her wearing his design.
On his way back, he encountered his father, Lu Ren. Lu Xingcheng angrily confronted his father, accusing him of indifference during his mother's life and discarding the flowers Lu Ren had brought. Early the next morning, Tong Xiaoyou went to Mu Yang's house to inquire about ""Lu Xingcheng's"" mother's car accident. Mu Yang suggested checking the insurance company's claim records for details. Although a friend tried, they found it difficult to access the information due to commercial secrecy. At work, Tong Xiaoyou was distracted, catching Lu Yanzhi's attention.
She confided in him about her investigation into Lu Xingcheng's mother's ten-year-old car accident, hoping to resolve the mystery and help Lu Xingcheng overcome his emotional block. Lu Yanzhi unexpectedly offered his assistance, seeing it as an opportunity to repay a past favor to Lu Xingcheng. During an interview, Lu Ren announced that the Fashion Cup would select sixteen finalists and would incorporate new interactive visual elements, aiming to make the competition more accessible to a wider audience.
Through Lu Yanzhi's connections, Tong Xiaoyou and Lu Yanzhi met with General Zhang, who, having worked at the insurance company at the time, recalled Lu Xingcheng as a child at the accident scene—silent, devoid of color, and frighteningly still. Distracted by this information, Tong Xiaoyou nearly walked into a passing scooter. Lu Yanzhi quickly pulled her out of harm's way, injuring his hand in the process. Tong Xiaoyou accompanied Lu Yanzhi to the hospital for his hand.
Meanwhile, at Brother Bao's noodle house, his employee teased him about his feelings for Song Ruru, who was on a date there, causing Brother Bao to stew in silence. Thanks to Lu Yanzhi's assistance, Tong Xiaoyou successfully obtained the accident report.
She brought a light salad to Lu Xingcheng and, after subtly leading into the topic with an anecdote, revealed the crucial detail from the report: his mother had intentionally turned the steering wheel to the right during the accident, sacrificing herself to protect him. This was the first time Lu Xingcheng truly faced the truth of the accident, and he broke down in tears as Tong Xiaoyou repeatedly assured him it was not his fault.
Later, alone, Lu Xingcheng found the courage to look through old photographs of his mother. Remembering her pride in his early drawings and designs, he resolved to reclaim his own pride in her honor. Tong Xiaoyou, Lu Yanzhi, and Lu Xingcheng all submitted their applications for the Fashion Cup. Following his registration, Lu Xingcheng asked Tong Xiaoyou to resign from her current job and join his studio, offering her shares and other benefits.
Upon learning that Lu Xingcheng had also registered for the Fashion Cup, Jiang Yan began to formulate her own plans, instructing her assistant to also register her for the competition and arrange a meeting with General Zhang, the registration manager.
