Suo Tou, having learned that Jian Zi is the Mask, confronted his brother in the darkroom. He was furious, believing Jian Zi, the seemingly weakest of their brothers, was actually the most formidable and had killed Shen Keke. Jian Zi, shocked, protested that he had not done anything to betray Suo Tou and believed the Mask, whom he thought was Suo Tou, was responsible for Shen Keke's death.
As both accused each other, Jian Zi, with a gun pressed to his head, bravely maintained his innocence. Exasperated, Suo Tou yelled, questioning if the police were the real killers. This sparked a memory in Jian Zi of Li Yongji deleting files in the darkroom, leading him to suspect the police. Suo Tou, however, refused to believe Jian Zi, declaring that he could no longer trust his brother.
Driven by a sense of injustice, Suo Tou asserted his determination to reclaim everything that was rightfully his. Jian Zi questioned his brother's obsession with wealth and power, asking if it was worth killing their own kind. Suo Tou retaliated by asking if Zhan Shili had considered any father-son sentiment when he sent people to kill him.
Torn between his father and his brother, Jian Zi was in agony, struggling to comprehend how their situation had devolved to such a painful state. The inspection team arrived at the major case group to take Li Yongji in for investigation. Inspector Wu directly stated her suspicion that Li Yongji's personal biases influenced his actions in the case.
She presented a dossier on Li Yongji's background, alleging that all evidence pointed to him using his position to exact revenge on Autumn Gate. She warned him against continued resistance, urging him to confess for the good of everyone, especially his subordinates. Li Yongji appeared unconcerned, maintaining a composed demeanor.
After helping Zhan Shili clear his name, Jin Lin, while still unsure if Li Yongji was a hidden move by her late husband, noted his eagerness to take down Zhan Shili. She concluded that he could be a valuable asset in the future. Meanwhile, she recognized Suo Tou's greatest weakness was his sentimentality, a trait she intended to exploit to eliminate him.
Her subordinate reported that Suo Tou had merely injured Zhan Shili's men and left "xiuer's schoolbag" as a symbolic threat. Jin Lin decided this confirmed Suo Tou's threat and his eventual elimination. Fearing for Jian Zi's safety, Tang Yin went to the small pub to find him. There, she unexpectedly discovered a tiny microchip—the much-sought-after encoder—hidden inside the bracelet she and Shen Keke had bought together.
She immediately headed to the police station to report it, but due to Li Yongji's investigation, the entire major case group was quarantined. Cai Jiayi advised her not to take any action and to trust Li Yongji. Wearing the bracelet, Tang Yin felt anxious. She called Jian Zi to inform him that she had the encoder. Suo Tou overheard the conversation and demanded that Tang Yin come alone with the encoder, or Jian Zi's life would be forfeit.
Concerned for Jian Zi, Tang Yin went by herself. Meanwhile, Suo Tou's men arrived, subdued Jian Zi, and waited for Tang Yin's arrival. Jian Zi pleaded with Suo Tou to reconsider and apologize to their father, suggesting he might be forgiven. Suo Tou dismissed his words as naive, revealing the brutal truth of Autumn Gate: their "retired" brothers were not living happily abroad but were permanently gone.
He chillingly explained that the more people one kills, the longer one survives, comparing their situation to raising hunting dogs where only the last survivor thrives. He recounted the horror of killing Brother Dao, describing how he stabbed him six times, and how he had believed A Zhong would be his last kill. He confessed that Jian Zi's presence made him feel human, making it hard to kill him.
After a day of interrogation, as Li Yongji prepared to drive home, he found a note from Tang Yin in his car. It stated that Jian Zi had been taken hostage and that she was bringing the encoder to save him, providing the specific address: k o 8 shipping terminal, Haining Road. Concerned for Tang Yin's safety, Li Yongji immediately drove to the location. On the way, he was intercepted by Jin Lin's people.
Jin Lin, seemingly a step ahead, assured him that Tang Yin would be safe and earnestly tried to persuade him to collaborate with her. Given his deep-seated hatred for Autumn Gate, Li Yongji found himself wavering. Due to Officer Li's investigation, Cai Jiayi was transferred back to the anti-pornography group. Upon her return, she found Mai Quancheng arrested once again. Witnessing his unrepentant attitude, Cai Jiayi, whose feelings for him had clearly changed, grew angry.
