Cambrian Period Recap
Episode 1 Recap
The story opens with background information on the collapse of the Hanqing Group, a powerful black dynasty. On November 5, 2016, its leader, Pei Yuancheng, died from a stroke at 68. Two days later, several high-ranking Hanqing Group members were arrested. It was revealed that Pei Yuancheng had not named a successor, which left the group in a power vacuum.
By November 11, Pei Yuancheng's six sons were fighting amongst themselves, plunging the group into internal conflict that spread instability across all territories under its influence. This led to the complete fragmentation of the once-dominant black dynasty, marking it as the most unstable factor in recent Asian public security.
Meanwhile, on South Zhanbu Island, a police briefing highlighted that the island faced an even more ruthless, cunning, and darker criminal force than the Hanqing Group: the Qiumen Group, led by the wealthy Zhan Shili. This group had exploited South Island's visa-free and tax-free policies to control all casino operations, generating immense illicit profits and becoming the island's primary security threat.
An officer emphasized that the period following Pei Yuancheng's fall and the Hanqing Group's fragmentation presented both an opportunity and a danger. He warned that an unchecked Zhan Shili would become more reckless. The officer noted that Suo Tou and other key figures managed crucial aspects of the Qiumen Group, while Face Mask served as Zhan Shili's ace assassin—a mysterious, cunning, and dangerous individual, second only to Zhan Shili himself in terms of threat.
He concluded his speech by declaring his readiness to pay any price to combat the black forces and fight influential powers to the end, underscoring his commitment to eliminate the Qiumen Group. Tang Yin, a young woman who recently left the entertainment industry, arrived on South Island with the goal of doing personal shopping business.
On a cruise ship, she enthusiastically declared her intentions to make a lot of money and spoke about leaving her old life behind, which caught the attention of Jin Lin and her daughter, Xiuer, who were also on board. Tang Yin apologized to Jin Lin for her boisterous behavior, explaining her plans to become a personal shopper, and asked for Jin Lin's name. Jin Lin introduced herself, stating her surname was Jin.
Upon docking at the wharf, Tang Yin continued to live-stream, showcasing the legitimacy of her personal shopping venture. She then encountered a chaotic brawl on the dock, mistaking it for a movie set, and excitedly commented on the "actors'" realistic performances, even comparing one fighter to the singer Deng Ziqi. Unbeknownst to her, this was a real and dangerous situation. Da Zhong, a traitor from the Qiumen Group, was being pursued by Face Mask, the group’s mysterious assassin.
Simultaneously, South Island Chief of Police Li Yongji arrived with his officers, as Face Mask was a wanted fugitive. This created a tense three-way standoff between the police, Da Zhong, and Face Mask. During the confusion, Xiuer, Jin Lin's young daughter, wandered off to retrieve her bouncy ball and was grabbed by Da Zhong, who took her hostage. Jin Lin frantically tried to intervene, but her assistant urged her to trust the police.
Li Yongji stepped forward, lowering his weapon, attempting to negotiate with Da Zhong. He offered him a chance to surrender and promised police protection. However, Tang Yin, completely unaware of the danger, continued to live-stream, loudly criticizing Da Zhong's "acting." Exasperated, Da Zhong fired a shot, hitting and destroying Tang Yin's phone. Furious, Tang Yin marched over to Da Zhong, trying to "coach" him on how to act more convincingly.
Da Zhong seized the opportunity to take Tang Yin as a second hostage. Li Yongji tried to reason with Da Zhong, urging him to release the hostages and turn himself in, promising police protection against Face Mask, who was also there to kill him. Da Zhong angrily dismissed the police, then used both Tang Yin and Xiuer as shields as he ascended a bridge ladder.
Once at the top, he unexpectedly abandoned the two hanging from the bridge railing and jumped into a waiting speedboat, making his escape. As Tang Yin and Xiuer dangled precariously, Face Mask swiftly rescued Xiuer and safely handed her back to Jin Lin before disappearing into the crowd. Tang Yin, unable to hold on, fell into the sea. Without hesitation, Li Yongji jumped in to rescue her.
The police immediately launched a large-scale manhunt for Face Mask, but he managed to evade capture once again, leaving officers to lament his uncanny ability to anticipate their movements, as if knowing even the blind spots of gods. After being rescued, Tang Yin initially complained loudly about the inadequate police service, demanding compensation for her broken phone. However, her demeanor abruptly shifted when she saw the handsome Chief Li Yongji.
She became soft-spoken, accepting his apology for the incident, and even tried to get his contact information. Li Yongji, noticing she was wet and cold, kindly offered her his jacket to prevent her from getting sick, which delighted Tang Yin, who was clearly smitten with the officer.
Following this incident, Li Yongji successfully passed his assessment and was promoted to Deputy Chief of the Police Department, taking charge of all major case investigations and public security management across South Zhanbu Island. Li Yongji addressed his colleagues, expressing his love for the land and his mission to fight crime and ensure public safety. Later, Tang Yin met her good friend, Shen Keke, outside the police station.
Shen Keke seemed secretive and agitated, urging Tang Yin to leave South Island quickly. Tang Yin, however, was still determined to pursue her personal shopping business and make a fortune, even thinking aloud that she was too embarrassed to ask the handsome Li Yongji for compensation. To help her friend make quick money, Shen Keke led Tang Yin to a casino.
They had good luck, winning over a hundred thousand, and were about to leave when Shen Keke received a phone call. She stepped away to answer it. During the call, Suo Tou of the Qiumen Group angrily demanded an item from Shen Keke that was vital to the Qiumen Group's survival, and revealed that he had killed Da Zhong, who had been involved in a plot to usurp power with him.
Suo Tou then asked an associate about the widow of Han Qing, Jin Lin, and decided to extend courtesies to her, sending gifts. Meanwhile, in the short time Shen Keke was on the phone, Tang Yin had gambled away all their winnings, exclaiming, "I lost all my money!" With no money left, the two friends decided to find a place to rest.
As they drove, Shen Keke tried to comfort Tang Yin, assuring her they would find a way to win the money back the next day and find a quiet place to survive the night, believing everything would be fine tomorrow. They eventually arrived at a secluded bar. Inside, Tang Yin was shocked to see Face Mask, now unmasked, working as the bar owner. The sight seemed to trigger a memory for her, and she found him "beautiful." Sensing that his identity might be compromised, Face Mask instinctively reached for a dagger hidden nearby.
Episode 2 Recap
Tang Yin, still charmed by the masked figure, recognized him as the bar owner, Jian Zi, who then relaxed his guard. Jian Zi asked what she and Shen Keke would like to drink. Shen Keke, feeling as though she had caused Tang Yin a lot of trouble, suggested they drink and get drunk, morbidly wondering if they would see the sun tomorrow. Tang Yin playfully dismissed her concerns. Suddenly, Jian Zi's friend, Mai Quancheng, arrived and flirted with the women.
Tang Yin asked Shen Keke who he was, to which Shen Keke jokingly replied that he was "probably a duck." Tang Yin found him attractive, prompting Shen Keke to tease her about still being a virgin and offer to "clock" Mai Quancheng for her. Tang Yin refused, saying that men were unreliable. Shen Keke then paid Mai Quancheng herself, which Tang Yin questioned. Mai Quancheng secretly added a drug to a drink.
Shen Keke insisted Jian Zi drink, accusing him of thinking her drink was "dirty." Jian Zi protested, saying it was his drink, but Shen Keke ignored him and drank it herself, immediately noticing a "strange smell" and realizing something was wrong. Tang Yin then unknowingly drank another drugged glass. Shen Keke then stepped aside to answer a phone call from Suo Tou. He demanded to know her location.
Shen Keke teased him, claiming she was in a "Bridal Chamber" with a "duck." Enraged, Suo Tou threatened to kill anyone who touched his woman, claiming that Zhan Shili, Shen Keke's father, had already dealt with a previous incident. He then demanded the encoder. Shen Keke, seizing the opportunity, demanded $100,000, promising to reveal the encoder's location only after she left South Island the next day.
Suo Tou begrudgingly agreed, commenting on her toughness, and Shen Keke instructed him to prepare the money. Before leaving, Shen Keke told Jian Zi to take care of Tang Yin. She then left with Mai Quancheng. Outside, she gave him money but rejected his advances, telling him she was not interested in "a kid like you" and that he was "making fun of himself." She threw the money at him and walked away alone.
Shortly after, as she walked dejectedly down the road, she was struck by a car. Meanwhile, back at the bar, Jian Zi received an urgent call, instantly sobering him up. He donned his Face-Print mask and left to execute a mission. Unknown to him, Tang Yin, still heavily under the influence of the drug, stumbled into his car.
A news report on the car's screen discussed Police Officer Li Yongji, who had recently been promoted to Deputy Director of the Police Department. The report detailed a dangerous "secret killer belonging to a black organization" (referring to Face-Print) who had failed an "internal crackdown action" due to police intervention, urging the public to report any information. Tang Yin, disoriented, asked Jian Zi if he liked the police.
Jian Zi arrived at Jin Lin's residence as Face-Print, intending to give her a warning. Suo Tou was already there, discussing the late Mr. Pei and how many things needed to be re-evaluated after his death. Jin Lin confronted Suo Tou, reminding him that he had initiated the contact with her, implying that changing his mind now was dishonorable. She then brought up Zhan Shili, the head of Qiu Men.
Suo Tou, already having witnessed Face-Print's presence and fearing his private agenda would be revealed to Qiu Men through Face-Print, became visibly agitated. At that moment, Tang Yin, still in a daze, wandered into Jin Lin's house, mistaking it for the police station and asking where Li Yongji was. Her unexpected intrusion caused a commotion, almost exposing Jian Zi as Face-Print. Fortunately, he quickly managed to escape.
Following Face-Print's escape, Suo Tou, still fueled by his fear of exposure to Qiu Men, attempted to kill Face-Print. However, Jin Lin intervened, preventing him from seizing the opportunity. Later, Suo Tou made a phone call to Zhan Fu, inquiring if Zhan Shili was asleep and if he had been out that night.
Upon learning that Zhan Shili was asleep, Suo Tou deduced that the Face-Print who visited Jin Lin was not Zhan Shili, leaving him to wonder about the identity of this new Face-Print. On the drive back, the lingering effects of the drug overwhelmed both Jian Zi and Tang Yin, leading to them having sex in the car. The next morning, Tang Yin and Jian Zi woke up disoriented and disheveled in the car. They both screamed in shock.
Tang Yin furiously confronted Jian Zi, believing she had slept with "that duck" she had seen the previous night, and lamented losing her innocence to "the owner of the Duck Store." Jian Zi tried to defend himself, quietly insisting, "I am not a duck," and promised to "be responsible for you." Tang Yin, still fuming, threw some money at him as a "service fee," scornfully calling him "stupid" and "unattractive," then stormed out of the car.
As she walked away, she felt a pang of regret and embarrassment, recalling the events of the night and her first time, muttering about her aching body. Jian Zi, too, quietly reflected that it was his "first time." Meanwhile, Suo Tou arrived at Shen Keke's apartment and frantically searched for the encoder, but found nothing. He called her phone, but it was switched off. Enraged, Suo Tou vowed to kill Shen Keke if he ever found her.
Tang Yin returned to Jian Zi's car, demanding his phone to call Shen Keke. She tried calling, but Shen Keke's phone was still off. Tang Yin, dismissing Jian Zi's wary glance, assured him she wouldn't "cling to him for a mere broken phone," took his phone, and asked for money for a taxi. After Tang Yin left, Jian Zi meticulously cleaned the car before remotely driving it into the sea, ensuring its complete destruction.
Later, Zhan Shili was informed that the encoder was missing and Shen Keke was unreachable. He also learned that traces of Da Zhong had been found by the sea, confirming his death. Zhan Shili immediately ordered South Island to be placed under comprehensive martial law, while allowing general industries to operate as usual.
He further instructed his subordinates to deploy additional personnel to thoroughly investigate anyone connected to Shen Keke, making it clear that this was a direct warning to Suo Tou. He also ordered Jian Zi to return, stating, "It's time for him to move."
Episode 3 Recap
Zhan Shili summoned Suo Tou, who was surprised to find Jin Lin also present. Jin Lin had come to Qiu Men for help after the death of her husband, Mr. Pei of Hanqing Group. His six sons were resentful and sought to eliminate her, so Jin Lin hoped to leverage Qiu Men's power on South Island to protect herself and her daughter.
Jin Lin thanked Zhan Shili for his hospitality, mentioning that her late husband’s sons were treating her badly and she simply wanted to raise her daughter safely. Zhan Shili questioned why she came to Qiu Men if she planned to settle in America, to which Jin Lin clarified that South Island was her hometown and she intended to reside there permanently, asking if he welcomed her.
Zhan Shili expressed concern, stating he might not be able to interfere if her late husband's sons pursued her, as it was a family matter. Jin Lin insisted that with Zhan Shili's presence, they wouldn't dare. Zhan Shili dismissed his influence and warned her not to be complacent, noting that even within Qiu Men, some were disloyal. Zhan Shili, having already noticed the underlying situation, then formally introduced Suo Tou to Jin Lin.
He highlighted Suo Tou as his most capable adopted son, entrusting him with all his affairs, big and small, and instructed Jin Lin to seek Suo Tou's help for any matters within Qiu Men's territory. He also reminded Suo Tou to treat Jin Lin with respect as an elder. Suo Tou accepted the directive and pledged his assistance. After Da Zhong's death, Suo Tou took over all of his industries.
He considered these businesses to be "unpresentable flesh trade" and instructed his subordinates to mind their status. That evening, Suo Tou sent for Jin Lin, wanting to assert his dominance and humiliate her. At the club, Suo Tou provocatively asked Jin Lin what she sought from him. Jin Lin simply stated "security." Suo Tou scoffed, suggesting that her current actions would only push security further away.
Jin Lin referenced her difficult past, which she believed everyone knew, and pointed out that she possessed wealth while he held power, arguing that a "combination of interests" was the most practical path to mutual benefit. Suo Tou reminded her of Zhan Shili's instruction for her to "behave" on Nanxun. Jin Lin retorted that if good behavior guaranteed safety, she would comply, but both knew it wouldn't.
She insisted that an alliance based on mutual interests was the most realistic approach. Suo Tou dismissed her, suggesting she seek Zhan Shili for cooperation, as he was the true power on South Island. Jin Lin then conceded, offering herself to him if he agreed to her conditions. Suo Tou responded with a mocking laugh, asking if she thought she was more beautiful or younger than the other women present.
He abruptly ended the meeting, warning her to remember that this was not Hanqing and to shed the pride of her "female military adviser." After Jian Zi returned to his tavern, he reflected on his encounters with Tang Yin. He called her, stating his intention to take responsibility for what happened between them. Tang Yin, however, had no desire to speak with him, angrily cutting off the call. Jian Zi, persistent, called again.
Tang Yin furiously told him she wasn't interested in someone like him, questioning why he, at a young age, would "eat soft food" (be a male escort). Jian Zi clarified that he was "really not a duck." This argument jogged Tang Yin's memory, making her realize that Mai Quancheng was the last person seen with Shen Keke.
She asked Jian Zi if he could contact Mai Quancheng to inquire about Keke's whereabouts, but Jian Zi informed her that Mai Quancheng's phone was off and he couldn't reach him either. Tang Yin then abruptly ended the call, declaring she didn't want to see him again. Unable to reach Mai Quancheng, Tang Yin went to Shen Keke's apartment. Unable to get inside, she resorted to shouting Keke's name from downstairs, which attracted the attention of a security guard.
The guard warned her to stop disturbing the peace and, when she persisted, threatened to call the police. Tang Yin challenged him to do so, even jokingly thanking him. After the guard called, Tang Yin went to the police station to report Keke missing. A police officer informed her that they couldn't officially file a missing person report until 24 hours had passed, despite Tang Yin explaining Keke's abnormal behavior and plans to leave that morning.
While waiting, Tang Yin saw "anti-prostitution" posters throughout the station. Remembering her and Keke's actions from the previous night, she felt a surge of guilt and embarrassment, lamenting that "if Officer Li knew that Coco and I went looking for (male escorts) last night, how embarrassing." She quickly fled the station, also regretting her casino losses. Penniless and friendless, Tang Yin wandered aimlessly through the streets, eventually arriving at a snack street.
Disregarding her financial situation, she ordered a large meal. When the owner realized she was trying to leave without paying, he confronted her, accusing her of repeatedly cheating him and threatening to call the police. Just as Tang Yin pleaded not to be taken to the police station, Jian Zi appeared, paid for her meal, and rescued her.
Tang Yin was furious, demanding to know how he found her and accusing him of stalking and being a "pervert" after she had told him she never wanted to see him again. Jian Zi calmly explained he had located her using her mobile phone's positioning system.
Tang Yin then burst into tears, complaining that the whole world was against her and recounting her miserable experiences over the past few days, including almost being beaten and losing money at the casino, wondering why he hadn't shown up sooner. Jian Zi silently walked behind her, letting her vent her anger. Finally, he asked her if she had anywhere to go, money for a hotel, or food to eat.
Tang Yin hesitated, admitting she had nothing but still tried to dismiss him. Jian Zi then wondered if he truly looked like a "duck." Left with no other options, Tang Yin reluctantly followed Jian Zi back to his place. Tang Yin accompanied Jian Zi to his tavern, remarking on its unexpected charm. She provocatively asked him how much a male escort in his profession could earn from a single client.
Jian Zi reiterated that she was mistaken and that he "didn't accept guests," explaining that the tavern was an inheritance from his elders and he only kept it open to prevent the house from being idle, not to make money. Tang Yin, however, remained skeptical, sarcastically suggesting that clients must seek him out directly and that he likely wasn't short of money in his "special occupation." Jian Zi once again firmly stated that he was "not a duck."
When offered juice or another beverage, Tang Yin, still wary of him, chose to drink only tap water, citing hygiene concerns. Jian Zi led Tang Yin to a room where she could stay, providing her with some of his old clothes. Tang Yin, commenting on their "quite effeminate" appearance, was told by Jian Zi to wear them if she didn't want to run naked and warned not to touch anything private in the room.
She retorted that she wasn't interested in his privacy. As Jian Zi was leaving, Tang Yin, feeling a little embarrassed, stopped him to express her gratitude. She apologized for her earlier harsh words, explaining that a young woman traveling alone must always be cautious. Jian Zi responded that no thanks were needed, as they were simply helping each other, and asked her not to call him "that one" (male escort) anymore.
Later, alone in the quiet of the night, Tang Yin reflected on her recent misfortunes. She found renewed determination, encouraging herself and affirming her belief that she would definitely become South Island's number one personal shopper. The next morning, still not accustomed to their shared living space, Tang Yin groggily pushed open the bathroom door and sat on the toilet, only to find Jian Zi brushing his teeth. She let out a scream, leading to another argument.
Their cohabitation had officially begun. Meanwhile, Li Yongji approached his junior colleague, Cai Jiayi, at the police station. He officially appointed her as a member of the major case group, assigning her to assist in the investigation of Shen Keke's disappearance. Cai Jiayi expressed initial surprise and some disappointment that the case was merely a missing person report from the previous day with incomplete clues, questioning why it was escalated to the major case group.
Li Yongji reminded her of his teachings about helping others and that "many big cases get clues from small cases," adding that he had a "hunch that he would catch a big fish this time." He then revealed further details, and upon seeing Mai Quancheng's picture in the case files, Cai Jiayi exclaimed in recognition. She realized that the person connected to the missing person was Mai Quancheng, a male escort from South Island whom she frequently arrested.
As Tang Yin and Jian Zi prepared to search for Mai Quancheng, Tang Yin, wearing Jian Zi's old clothes, teased him about a "sweetheart" when he claimed the clothes were a gift. She then pressed him to quickly find "the duck." Just as they were about to leave, they spotted Mai Quancheng discreetly peeking from behind the tavern. Tang Yin shouted his name, startling him, and he immediately fled.
Coincidentally, Li Yongji and Cai Jiayi also arrived at that moment, looking for Mai Quancheng. Both groups joined the chase, with Cai Jiayi quickly apprehending him due to her agility. Mai Quancheng protested his innocence, claiming he had been "law-abiding" and hadn't taken any clients that day. Cai Jiayi questioned why he ran if he was innocent, to which he retorted that anyone would flee from the police.
He continued to tease her about her persistence in arresting him, suggesting she "had a big deal this time." As Cai Jiayi was about to discipline him for his insolence, Tang Yin and Jian Zi arrived at the scene. This marked the first formal confrontation between Li Yongji and Jian Zi, as their eyes met.
Episode 4 Recap
Mai Quancheng was brought to the police station for questioning regarding Shen Keke's disappearance. He insisted that on the night in question, Shen Keke simply gave him some money and left, and he had no further information about her whereabouts. Officer Cai confirmed Mai Quancheng's account, but the police pressed for more details, which Mai Quancheng claimed not to know.
After returning from the police station, Mai Quancheng reluctantly confessed to Tang Yin and Jian Zi that he had put an aphrodisiac, which he called "Yin and Yang hehe umbrella," into the drinks they shared that night. Tang Yin, enraged, demanded he hand over the rest of the drug. She then poured the substance into a bucket and set it on fire to destroy it.
Unexpectedly, the fumes from the burning drug affected all three of them, leading to an awkward and comical situation. Tang Yin received a notification from the police to collect her belongings from Shen Keke's apartment. Upon seeing the ransacked home, Tang Yin immediately sensed that something terrible had happened to Keke. Li Yongji tried to comfort her, assuring her that they would quickly uncover the truth.
Tang Yin returned a jacket Li Yongji had lent her, expressing her hope that he would bring Keke back to her safely, just as he had returned the jacket. Meanwhile, Lock Tou visited Qiumen and discovered that Zhan Shili had obtained surveillance footage showing Shen Keke and Tang Yin at the casino on the day of Keke's disappearance. This evidence suggested Lock Tou's close ties with Shen Keke, leading Zhan Shili to suspect him and refuse to meet with him.
Angered, Lock Tou tracked down the casino boss and severely reprimanded him for releasing the footage. Separately, Zhan Shili met with Jian Zi, informing him of the urgent situation and stressing that finding Shen Keke and the encoder was paramount, even if it meant risking his life. Later that evening, Tang Yin, unable to sleep, chatted with Jian Zi through the wall.
She confided her deep worry after seeing Keke's messy home and asked Jian Zi to help her investigate Keke's whereabouts. Jian Zi, conflicted while looking at the information Zhan Shili had provided about Shen Keke, eventually agreed. Jian Zi then began to speak tenderly about his mother, sharing her wisdom about love and freedom, unaware that Tang Yin had already drifted off to sleep. Suddenly, the doorbell rang downstairs.
Jian Zi went to answer it, finding Lock Tou at the door. As adopted brothers under Zhan Shili, they shared a strong bond despite not seeing each other often. Lock Tou, protective of his easygoing younger brother, joined Jian Zi for drinks. As they grew more inebriated, they began to playfully spar, their boisterous movements waking Tang Yin. She came downstairs to find the two men wrestling on the floor, mistakenly believing they were romantically involved.
In a swift, unthinking motion, Lock Tou threw a dagger, which grazed Tang Yin's neck. Seeing her own blood, Tang Yin fainted. Jian Zi rushed to hold her, his face etched with worry, a sight that made Lock Tou realize his younger brother had finally awakened to romantic feelings. The next morning, Tang Yin noticed the bandage on her neck and immediately began to playfully tease Jian Zi about the previous night's misunderstanding, accusing him of being gay.
Jian Zi earnestly tried to explain that Lock Tou was his brother and that their grappling was merely a dispute over inheritance, a story Tang Yin found laughable and entirely unbelievable, dismissing it as a "dog blood script." Tang Yin, unconcerned about his sexual orientation, told him that love transcends gender and that she would keep his "secret" as long as he stopped "chasing" her.
With her mind set on her priority, she declared her intention to go see Officer Li. Tang Yin then met with Officer Cai, who informed her that Shen Keke's case might involve the underworld, advising her to be cautious. Tang Yin, frustrated by the slow pace of the investigation and recalling Keke's nervous demeanor and the state of her apartment, insisted Keke was in danger.
Based on her limited acting experience, Tang Yin impulsively decided to find the underworld herself, confidently listing several places where she believed they might be. Jian Zi, tracking her location by phone, quickly arrived to accompany and protect her. Tang Yin habitually patted Jian Zi's head, but he awkwardly told her to stop, saying he wasn't a child anymore. Tang Yin playfully agreed, only to pat his head again, clearly not taking his words seriously.
Their search led them by chance to Lock Tou's territory. Tang Yin, believing she had found a "gangster" establishment, comically attempted to use dramatic, coded underworld language to "socialize" with Lock Tou's men, much to Jian Zi's quiet amusement. Lock Tou then appeared, and Tang Yin recognized him as Jian Zi's "ambiguous brother" from the previous night, realizing she had once again stumbled into the wrong place.
Over drinks, Tang Yin continued to tease Jian Zi, at one point mistakenly referring to Lock Tou as Jian Zi's "older sister" and comparing Jian Zi's "lack of ambition" to his "successful" sibling. Lock Tou, chuckling, clarified that they were not blood brothers but rather adopted siblings, and that Jian Zi simply preferred a quiet life, possessing more potential than Lock Tou himself. Later that night, Tang Yin was still fixated on finding Keke.
Jian Zi, remembering a suspicious car he had noticed in a scrapyard earlier that day, decided to investigate. Donning his Facebook mask, he returned to the car and found a crucial clue. Following the lead, he went into a nearby forest, where he tragically discovered Shen Keke's body. At that moment, a patrolling forest ranger came upon him.
Episode 5 Recap
Jian Zi stood alone by the sea in the early morning, lost in thought. Tang Yin, perplexed by his somber mood, joined him and asked why he had called her out. Jian Zi asked if she liked the sea, then suggested she take a longer look if she did. Growing impatient, Tang Yin declared she was going to find Coco. Jian Zi then posed a difficult question, asking, "What if Shen Keke can't come back?"
Tang Yin, startled, pressed for clarification. Jian Zi rephrased, "If Shen Keke has other things to do, temporarily can't return, or has gone to a better place, can you not be so sad?" Suspecting a hidden meaning, Tang Yin demanded to know if he had heard something and if Coco was in trouble.
She vehemently stated that Coco had promised to return and pick her up, vowing to wait for her right there, unwilling to go anywhere or think of anything else. Seeing Tang Yin's steadfast belief, Jian Zi could not bring himself to tell her the truth about Coco's death. Police officers arrived at the scene after a forest ranger reported finding a woman's body. News reports soon confirmed the discovery of Shen Keke's body, which showed no signs of decomposition.
Though the court initially classified it as a car accident, the police were taking the case seriously, especially after a witness described seeing a person in black wearing a mask near the NW0258 fire alarm at approximately 5:50 AM, just before the body was found, leading them to suspect Face. The Major Crimes Team officially took over the case, concluding it was a kidnapping and murder orchestrated by Face. Lock Tou was devastated by the news of Shen Keke's death.
He had been her first lover, and though he had been compelled to give her to his father, he had always held deep affection for her. A flashback revealed a painful memory where Coco pleaded with Lock Tou to spend one night with the "old man," promising she would then be his woman.
This memory fueled Lock Tou's rage, as he vividly recalled questioning Coco about his father sleeping with her, demanding to know where his encoder was, and who held more power—him or his father. Coco, confused by his outburst, had asked if he truly intended to give her to his father, calling him a "beast" for such a thought.
Back in the present, at a casino, Lock Tou erupted in anger, berating his subordinates for losing the encoder and rendering their chip exchange operations useless. He then ordered them to dispose of the body. Jian Zi found himself under scrutiny as the police pursued the case. Li Yongji was reprimanded by a superior for prematurely leaking information about Face's involvement to the press, particularly given "Qiu Men's" status as a significant taxpayer, and was warned against causing public panic.
However, Li Yongji stood firm, asserting his right to independently investigate and summon suspects, citing ongoing safety concerns in South Island. Simultaneously, Zhan Shili confronted Jian Zi, questioning his recent string of failures and being framed for Shen Keke's murder. He reminded Jian Zi to maintain a singular focus and, due to heightened surveillance, ordered him to cease all activities as Face.
Jian Zi apologized, explaining a previous incident as an accident, but Zhan Shili dismissed it, stating that "Qiu Men's matters do not allow for accidents." He emphasized the need for internal stability before addressing external issues and indicated he would resolve matters after everything was clear. Later, Zhan Shili, with Jian Zi present, criticized Lock Tou for his rash actions, specifically his involvement with Da Zhong.
While admitting he could overlook Lock Tou's clandestine chip-washing company, Zhan Shili acknowledged Lock Tou's ambition, stating it was a characteristic he valued in his son. He even suggested that if Lock Tou were capable of turning against him, it would be a testament to his own teaching. However, he cautioned Lock Tou against impatience.
Zhan Shili then secretly instructed an associate to analyze recordings to uncover the true identity behind Shen Keke and the origin of the encoder, to ascertain if Face had targeted the wrong person. His suspicions were later confirmed when his subordinate reported that Lock Tou's heartbeat accelerated each time the encoder was mentioned. Zhan Shili revealed he already knew Shen Keke was Lock Tou's woman, sarcastically commenting on Lock Tou's "filial piety," and ordered a full investigation into him.
Tang Yin went to the police station to identify Shen Keke's body. Overwhelmed with grief, she was in denial, weeping that Coco had promised her a better life and was too young and beautiful to be gone. She was urged to confirm the identity to aid the investigation.
After a press conference where Li Yongji stated that the police had no definitive evidence yet to name Face as the killer, Tang Yin confronted him, desperately asking how long it would take to apprehend the murderer. Li Yongji tried to calm her, assuring her of the police's capabilities. Later, visibly distraught, Tang Yin collapsed outside the police station, crying out "Bro," and was quickly rushed to the hospital by Li Yongji.
At the hospital, Jian Zi found Tang Yin awake. She confronted him, accusing him of knowing about Coco's death all along and hiding it, questioning their friendship. Feeling utterly betrayed and isolated, she declared that Li Yongji was the only person left on South Island whom she could trust. Despite her fragile condition, she insisted on leaving the hospital to find Li Yongji. Jian Zi tried to stop her, reminding her of her health, but she pushed past him.
Jian Zi silently followed her out into the pouring rain, gently draping his coat over her shoulders. He continued to follow her until he saw Li Yongji arrive and escort her away, finally feeling a sense of relief. Li Yongji took Tang Yin to a place to get out of the rain and offered her a hot ginger tea. Tang Yin expressed her disillusionment with South Island, lamenting that it was filled with danger and lies.
She reiterated her complete trust in Li Yongji, recalling how he had once saved her from the sea. Li Yongji assured her that the Major Crimes Team was tirelessly working on the case and promised to inform her immediately of any developments, urging her to rest. That evening, Li Yongji dropped Tang Yin off at the small bar. Tang Yin thanked him for the clothes he had given her.
Inside, she pointedly ignored Jian Zi, who watched her indifferent back with a heavy heart. Meanwhile, Cai Jiayi, following Li Yongji's instructions to "break inertial thinking" while reviewing surveillance footage, excitedly called him on the phone to report that she had discovered evidence of Face kidnapping Shen Keke. Li Yongji praised her and ordered her to prepare a detailed report. Jian Zi, in an attempt to comfort Tang Yin, quietly prepared some ginger tea for her.
While Jian Zi was out, he received a phone call from Mai Quancheng, who informed him that Tang Yin was feeling low, so he had taken her to his fishing village to relax, inviting Jian Zi to join them after his tasks were done. Mai Quancheng also mentioned that Cai Jiayi was already there, assigned to protect Tang Yin. Jian Zi quickly made his way to the village, where he found Tang Yin enjoying Mai Quancheng's mother's cooking.
The mother playfully suggested Tang Yin become her daughter-in-law, and Mai Quancheng, despite his usual antics, showed a responsible side by demonstrating how he paid bills online. Jian Zi later found Tang Yin by the sea. Tang Yin expressed her love for the peaceful and beautiful village, describing it as her ideal image of South Island, and remarked on her surprise that the flamboyant Mai Quancheng grew up in such an idyllic place.
Jian Zi explained that Mai Quancheng's father had been lost at sea, and his mother had subsequently fallen ill. To pay for her medical treatment, Mai Quancheng had left school and taken on escort work. Tang Yin reflected that the opinions of others were secondary to the well-being of loved ones. When Jian Zi asked if she herself was doing well, Tang Yin confessed she was not.
She blamed herself for Coco's death, believing that if Coco had not stayed an extra day because of her, she would still be alive. Tang Yin then vowed to fulfill all of Coco's unachieved wishes in this world, committing to live a happy and fulfilling life. Following Coco's death, Lock Tou made a series of mistakes, providing Zhan Shili with undeniable evidence of his misdeeds.
Zhan Shili, initially considering leniency, realizing Lock Tou could not escape his influence, then grimly remarked that death was indeed a way to "jump out of the chessboard," and ordered his subordinate to handle the situation. Aware of Zhan Shili's suspicions, Lock Tou, inside his burning residence, welcomed his arriving "Master" and asked him to bear witness.
Declaring that "Qiu Men can't hold me anymore" and acknowledging that his master would not "do it himself," Lock Tou then deliberately set his home fully ablaze, perishing in the inferno.
Episode 6 Recap
Jian Zi was deeply saddened upon learning of Suo Tou's death. He pondered if power and wealth were truly so important that one would sacrifice their life for them, remembering the path other brothers in Qiu men had taken—either dying for the organization or leaving to live their own lives after completing a mission.
He recalled Suo Tou treating him like a true brother and acknowledged his ambition, believing that Zhan Shili had once highly regarded him as the future leader of Qiu men. Now, everything was gone. Zhan Shili, upon hearing the news, declared Suo Tou's death as his final contribution to Qiu men, making him a scapegoat for Shen Keke's case and severing all ties.
He reflected on how ambition could swell within people and that Suo Tou couldn't wait for him to grow old and die. He admitted he had considered being lenient with Suo Tou but was surprised when Suo Tou had betrayed Da Zhong. Zhan Shili acknowledged that Suo Tou had accepted his fate, neither begging for mercy nor trying to escape, and he still remembered the value he placed on Suo Tou over the years.
Meanwhile, Li Yongji found Suo Tou's death highly suspicious. Despite the official report claiming suicide and presenting a Facebook mask and a confession letter, Li Yongji argued that these very elements suggested a deeper problem within Qiu men, demanding a thorough investigation. He pointed out that Suo Tou, as Qiu men's second-in-command, had used his power and money to cultivate dark forces, and Shen Keke was silenced for knowing their secrets.
His superior, however, insisted on closing the case, citing Suo Tou's prominent position and the need for stability on South Island. The superior warned Li Yongji against further investigation, fearing more casualties and disruption, and ordered him to refrain from interfering with the case or causing trouble at the upcoming press conference. Tang Yin learned from the news that Suo Tou was identified as Keke's killer.
She confronted Jian Zi, questioning why he hadn't told her, especially since he knew about Keke's death early on. Jian Zi vehemently denied that his brother was the killer, but Tang Yin accused him of insincere comfort and covering up the truth. Unable to fully explain, Jian Zi apologized and left, promising to return with an explanation. Later, Tang Yin, preparing to leave South Island, visited Li Yongji at the police station to say goodbye.
During their conversation, she mentioned that Jian Zi was Suo Tou's brother, an unexpected piece of information for Li Yongji. He initially dismissed it, explaining that the police records indicated Suo Tou was an orphan, making it impossible for them to be blood brothers. Tang Yin seemed appeased, believing she had misunderstood Jian Zi. However, Li Yongji grew suspicious of Jian Zi's true connection to Suo Tou and the criminal underworld, deciding to discreetly investigate the seemingly ordinary bar owner.
Li Yongji soon arrived at Jian Zi's bar with a search warrant. As they confronted each other, Cai Jiayi called Jian Zi, informing him that Tang Yin had been kidnapped by Facebook. Li Yongji, who had also received information from Cai Jiayi about the kidnapping location at Pier 3 on Sunrise Island, immediately mobilized his police unit for a rescue operation, while Jian Zi, donning a Facebook mask, rushed to the location alone.
Tang Yin was shocked to see that her kidnapper was Facebook, having believed Suo Tou was the man behind the mask and now dead. The kidnapper revealed that he was the one who killed Keke and framed Suo Tou, then demanded the encoder from Tang Yin. Tang Yin defiantly refused to cooperate, further enraging him.
Just as the kidnapper was about to assault Tang Yin, Jian Zi, also wearing a Facebook mask, arrived and engaged the criminal in a fierce fight. During the struggle, Tang Yin was injured while protecting Jian Zi and fainted. The kidnapper, unable to defeat Jian Zi, fled the scene, vowing revenge. As the police, led by Li Yongji, arrived, Jian Zi quietly slipped away. Tang Yin, mistaken, believed Li Yongji had rescued her.
The police collected blood samples from the scene for forensic analysis. Back at his bar, Jian Zi was in a melancholic state, drinking alone. Mai Quancheng, noticing Jian Zi's emotional turmoil, pressed him about his feelings for Tang Yin. Jian Zi initially claimed he only felt responsible for her and wasn't sure what love was. Mai Quancheng challenged him, asking if he felt uncomfortable seeing Tang Yin flirt with Li Yongji and if he missed her when she was away.
When Mai Quancheng disparaged Tang Yin as a selfish, vain woman, Jian Zi retorted, questioning why such a woman would sacrifice herself to protect him during the kidnapping. This moment of realization solidified Jian Zi's understanding that his feelings for Tang Yin transcended mere responsibility. Driven by his newfound love, Jian Zi rushed to Qiu men and waited outside all night.
The next morning, he asked Zhan Shili to entrust all matters concerning Tang Yin to him, a request Zhan Shili reluctantly granted, warning him to act with discretion. Worried about Tang Yin's safety under police protection and unable to directly approach her, Jian Zi concocted a plan. He inflicted a wound upon himself, fabricating a story that he was injured while bravely defending Tang Yin's luggage from a thief, hoping to gain entry into the witness protection facility with her.
Mai Quancheng immediately saw through Jian Zi's unconvincing lie, reminding him of his inability to lie. Despite his amusement, Mai Quancheng agreed to help Jian Zi, even teasingly accepting a "date" with Cai Jiayi as compensation. Mai Quancheng then presented Jian Zi's fabricated story to Cai Jiayi, arguing that Jian Zi also deserved police protection given his involvement in the incident. He suggested that both Jian Zi and Tang Yin should be protected together.
Cai Jiayi, seemingly persuaded, arranged for Jian Zi to return to the hotel where Tang Yin was being protected and receive medical attention. At the witness protection facility, Li Yongji questioned Tang Yin about her kidnapping, specifically asking who rescued her before the police arrived. Tang Yin, unsure whether to trust the Facebook who had saved her, evasively claimed she had fainted and couldn't remember.
Li Yongji noted the signs of a struggle at the scene, indicating someone had been there before the police. To escape further probing, Tang Yin feigned a stomachache and went to the restroom, where she privately pondered if the Facebook who saved her could be a good person. Meanwhile, Jin Lin was awakened from a nightmare by the presence of a masked figure in her room.
The figure removed his mask to reveal Suo Tou, alive but with an injured back from his fight with Jian Zi. As Jin Lin tended to his wound, Suo Tou explained that Zhan Shili's extensive investment in Dujia Village had left Qiu men's funds depleted. He needed the encoder to secure a continuous stream of money to expand his power, support his men, and extract funds from Zhan Shili.
Jin Lin, with her strategic mind, outlined how the encoder could be used to flood the market with fake casino chips, collapsing Qiu men's financial and credit structures, ultimately allowing them to acquire Zhan Shili's assets. Suo Tou revealed that Tang Yin possessed the encoder, prompting Jin Lin to disclose that she, coincidentally, knew Tang Yin.
Episode 7 Recap
Jian Zi, supported by Mai Quancheng, arrived at the witness protection office. The two explained that they had been assaulted while protecting Tang Yin's luggage, sustaining injuries. Li Yongji, however, expressed his suspicion, stating that an assessment was necessary to determine if they qualified for the protection program. Meanwhile, Tang Yin and officer Cai Jiayi believed the situation was dangerous, and ultimately, Jian Zi and Mai Quancheng were permitted to stay.
To Jian Zi's dismay, he was placed in a separate area from Tang Yin. Observing Li Yongji taking Tang Yin away, Jian Zi, who had exerted considerable effort to enter the facility, grew restless. He then concocted a new plan with Mai Quancheng. Mai Quancheng was tasked with distracting officer Cai, while Jian Zi seized the opportunity to slip out. He claimed he needed officer Li's protection, but in reality, he secretly followed Tang Yin.
Tang Yin soon discovered him and learned she was out shopping with officer Li. Jian Zi feigned a desperate need for officer Li's protection and insisted on accompanying them. Tang Yin, with her vivid imagination, began to fantasize about a romantic connection between Jian Zi and officer Li, believing Jian Zi was smitten with the officer. She discreetly pulled Jian Zi aside and warned him not to compete with her, leaving Jian Zi speechless.
Tang Yin's true intention for being out was to draw Facebook into the open. Li Yongji perceived her strategy and advised her against such a dangerous course of action. Jian Zi, however, supported Tang Yin's decision, promising to guard her from a distance. After a discussion, the three set out to find Facebook. They arrived at a bustling night market, searching for Facebook amidst the crowds and enjoying the street food.
Throughout their outing, Tang Yin frequently smiled at officer Li, attempting to create romantic moments. Jian Zi, consumed by jealousy, trailed behind, constantly disrupting their interactions. After they finished a meal at a street stall, Tang Yin suddenly felt unwell and began to vomit. Li Yongji quickly took her to the nearest private clinic, where she was diagnosed as pregnant. Overwhelmed, Tang Yin fled the clinic. Jian Zi and Li Yongji, left in confusion, drove after her.
At that moment, Tang Yin encountered Jin Lin, who was driving by. The two women, who had previously met at the wharf, quickly reconnected. Jin Lin expressed a desire to stay in touch and handed Tang Yin her business card. Upon returning to the protection office, Tang Yin secluded herself in the bathroom. Calculating the days, she realized she had missed her period for an extended time, and reluctantly accepted the reality of her pregnancy.
This series of events made Jian Zi realize that Tang Yin still viewed him as a child. Taking Mai Quancheng's advice, he changed into a more mature outfit to approach Tang Yin. He told her that at his age, in Mai Quancheng's hometown, men were already fathers, and assured her he would take good care of her. Tang Yin, hearing this and recalling her pregnancy, mistakenly concluded the child was his.
In a fit of anger, she ordered Jian Zi out of her room. Undeterred, Jian Zi climbed back in through the window, hoping to show her his newfound maturity. However, Tang Yin's rage only intensified, and she began to violently hit him. Officer Li, hearing the commotion, rushed into the room. Seeing the man she admired and realizing her own pregnancy, Tang Yin felt she was no longer worthy of officer Li. In a display of frustration, she stormed out.
The two men in the room exchanged bewildered glances before chasing after her. Tang Yin went to Jin Lin's house to seek advice about the baby. Jin Lin comforted her, explaining that having a child was a beautiful experience and that watching her child grow was a mother's greatest joy. This conversation was overheard by Suo Tou, who was recovering from injuries upstairs. He planned to take advantage of the situation and kill Tang Yin.
Fortunately, Jian Zi and officer Li arrived just in time. They stood guard in the living room, protecting Tang Yin. Suo Tou, realizing his opportunity was gone, reluctantly hid. However, due to his weakened state, he accidentally knocked his gun against a wall, making a sound. This immediately put Jian Zi and officer Li on high alert. Jin Lin, though maintaining a calm exterior, secretly gripped her own gun, prepared for any eventuality.
Just then, an old servant appeared, claiming responsibility for breaking a piece of porcelain, defusing the tense situation. Still oblivious to the danger she had narrowly escaped, Tang Yin continued to fret about her pregnancy. Seeing Jian Zi persistently following her, she angrily blurted out that she was pregnant. Jian Zi reacted with a mixture of shock and delight.
Episode 8 Recap
After visiting Jin Lin's home, Li Yongji grew suspicious of the Female military adviser from Hanqing Group. He immediately ordered his subordinates to compile all her information, including her arrival date in South Island and the vehicles she used, and place it on his desk. Tang Yin then asked Li Yongji to accompany her to a large hospital for a check-up. Jian Zi chased after them, immersed in the joy of becoming a father.
He believed the baby would be a girl and that she would resemble Tang Yin. As Tang Yin sat alone in the hospital, contemplating whether to keep the child, Jian Zi, sensing her hesitation, urged her not to do anything foolish, reminding her that "the child is innocent." After deep consideration, Tang Yin decided, "I have decided. I want to give birth to the baby."
Overjoyed, Jian Zi hugged her, promising to protect her and the child and ensure they were well-fed. Tang Yin, however, teased him, stating that while she decided to keep the child, she never said he was the father. Despite Tang Yin's mental preparation for motherhood, the doctor delivered shocking news: Tang Yin was still a virgin and could not be pregnant. Her symptoms were merely food poisoning.
The doctor, in an exasperated tone, questioned how she could be pregnant if she was a virgin and asked if she was "making fun" of them. Jian Zi, who was eagerly asking about the baby's health and age, was crushed by this revelation, asking the doctor to re-check the results. Tang Yin, now frustrated, confronted Jian Zi, exclaiming that he owed her a child.
She had finally decided to embrace motherhood, only to be told it was a false alarm and nothing had actually happened between them. She even questioned his masculinity, asking, "You didn't do anything all night? Is it a man?" Jian Zi, visibly disappointed, tried to explain that he did want to, and despite nothing happening, he would still take responsibility for her.
Tang Yin, however, declared that they no longer owed each other anything, and he didn't need to be nice to her anymore. With a renewed spark of hope, Jian Zi readily agreed to her suggestion to return home together. After Tang Yin's previous visit, Jin Lin noticed something unusual about Li Yongji and began a private investigation into the external police officer.
Through a phone call, she requested information on police officers in the South Island force who might be compromised by money, expressing her disdain for those driven solely by greed, even to the point of betraying their own family. She believed that with enough money, some individuals could be swayed to their side. Additionally, despite having received a counterfeit chip maker from Suo Tou, she remained uneasy about their transaction and secretly sought other assistance.
She had a tense conversation with Suo Tou, where he questioned her urgency and assured her he would get what she wanted. Jin Lin accused him of recklessness and lack of trust, fearing for her mother and daughter's lives. Suo Tou then conceded, saying he wanted to "make up" and would "listen to her," to which Jin Lin firmly responded, "Listen to me," indicating her intent to take control.
Officer Cai Jiayi arrived at the witness protection facility looking for Jian Zi. Finding only Mai Quancheng, she grew furious, demanding to know where Jian Zi was. Mai Quancheng, trying to be secretive, spun a tale about Jian Zi seeing his "good figure" and feeling inferior, then going to his bistro to work out, suggesting Jian Zi intentionally left to create a "two-person world" for him and Officer Cai. Officer Cai dismissed his nonsensical remarks.
She then went to Tang Yin's room, yelling for Jian Zi to come out. Tang Yin tried to cover, claiming they were "talking business," but admitted Jian Zi was missing and hadn't told her anything. Li Yongji then informed Officer Cai that Jian Zi had voluntarily signed out of the witness protection program the previous night.
He then suggested to Officer Cai that taking Tang Yin back to the crime scene might reveal new clues, which Tang Yin readily agreed to, stating she was happy to finally be useful. To quickly bring peace back to Tang Yin, Jian Zi began a secret investigation into the truth of the whole incident. He arranged for Mai Quancheng to distract Officer Cai, who was still trying to track Jian Zi down.
During a phone call, Mai Quancheng complained that he was "killed" by Jian Zi and left homeless by his girlfriend, but Jian Zi urged him to ask his girlfriend for the location of the GS2 section's monitoring data center. Mai Quancheng later called back, confidently claiming he had found the best method, and Jian Zi confirmed the location before hanging up.
Disguising himself as Facebook, Jian Zi secretly infiltrated the video surveillance center, aiming to uncover the real situation on the night Shen Keke's incident occurred. While there, he spotted Li Yongji and thought, "Why does Li Yongji appear here? His identity is not that simple. I am worried about Tang Yin. Forget it. Let's go back."
To expedite the case, Li Yongji took Tang Yin back to the crime scene where Facebook had kidnapped her, hoping she could recall more details. Li Yongji acknowledged that "crime scenes may evoke painful memories," but Tang Yin asserted, "As long as the bad guys can be brought to justice, I am not afraid of anything."
Li Yongji used techniques to jog her memory, emphasizing that "sound, smell, rhythm, light is the fulcrum of memory" to help her "return to the original memory." He asked what Facebook said or did to her. Tang Yin recalled Facebook asking about "what your friend Shen Keke left" and that he had "hung her up."
She also proposed the possibility of multiple Facebooks, to which Li Yongji responded that police research suggested more than one Facebook, but regardless, they were "the biggest pests on the island." Tang Yin initially struggled to recall more, mentioning she fainted and only woke up when she saw the police. However, upon seeing blood on the ground, she remembered that "before I fainted, there is no blood on the ground."
Li Yongji then confirmed that DNA results from the blood were back, and it was indeed Suo Tou's, just as he suspected. He instructed his subordinates to be vigilant and strengthen prevention, but he did not share this information with Tang Yin. Tang Yin, feeling disappointed in her memory, suggested they visit Shen Keke's house again, hoping to remember what Shen Keke gave her. At that moment, Li Yongji received an urgent alert about someone breaking into a secret room.
He told Tang Yin he had "some urgent matters" and would have a subordinate drive her to her hotel. Tang Yin opted to return to her pub first to retrieve some items. Li Yongji then swiftly returned to the police station, leaving Tang Yin. Officer Cai Jiayi, suspecting a mole within the police department, instructed her team that their next actions should not be officially recorded.
Based on intelligence that Facebook activities were detected in a specific room on the 4th floor, she led a team to surround the area. Li Yongji arrived at the secret room alone. After privately observing to confirm no one else was present, he deleted files from the recording equipment. Jian Zi, hidden in the shadows, witnessed everything, confirming his suspicion that Li Yongji was not as straightforward and righteous as he appeared.
As Li Yongji breathed a sigh of relief after deleting the files, Cai Jiayi arrived at the scene. She found a satellite positioning system. Li Yongji tried to stop her, but it was too late. As Cai Jiayi curiously picked up the earphones next to the positioning system, she commented that such "old equipment should have been eliminated long ago" and questioned "why does Facebook use such devices."
She also noted that all content on the device had been expertly deleted, leaving no fingerprints or clues. She decided to bring the device back to the major crime unit, emphasizing that this discovery should be kept secret between them. A voice from the earphones then stated, "Dear public servant, I have been looking for you for a long time. As a gift, please accept the evidence of the Car Door Group." It then provided an IP address: "21. 223. 11. 16." Meanwhile, Li Yongji covertly raised his gun, pointing it at Cai Jiayi.
Episode 9 Recap
A powerful figure issued a stern warning to Li Yongji, who was referred to as Officer Li Da, questioning his audacity and reminding him of who held the power. The figure threatened to throw Li Yongji into the sea to feed the fish if he continued to meddle in matters beyond his purview. Soon after, a transfer order was issued, reassigning Li Yongji to South Island, instructing him to be a diligent public servant there.
Later, Tang Yin, eager to see Jian Zi, returned to the small bar. Before entering, she jokingly called out, expecting Jian Zi to rush down to greet her. However, inside, she found Zhan Shili instead. Unsure of who he was, she cautiously asked. Zhan Shili, with a gentle demeanor, introduced himself as Jian Zi's father. Tang Yin was instantly flustered, apologizing profusely for her earlier playful comments, explaining they were just jokes.
Zhan Shili, unperturbed, shared that Jian Zi often spoke of her, leading Tang Yin to realize he already knew her name. He then encouraged Tang Yin, saying Jian Zi would be happy to spend all his time with her, and promised to discipline Jian Zi if he disagreed, adding that they would be family sooner or later. Just as Zhan Shili started to inquire about Tang Yin's recent collaboration with Li Yongji, Jian Zi arrived, interrupting their conversation.
Moments later, Li Yongji and a large contingent of police officers stormed the bar and arrested Zhan Shili on five charges. With Zhan Shili's arrest, the Autumn Group's butler, Mr. Hao, immediately convened a meeting with the legal team to discuss strategies for his release. Mr. Hao outlined the five charges: money laundering, commercial bid manipulation, instigating murder, bribing government officials, and arms smuggling.
He explained that these charges would require the involvement of at least five government agencies, with the police being just one. Their strategy was to incite a struggle for jurisdiction among these agencies, then transfer Zhan Shili to an allied institution, thereby facilitating a medical parole or bail much faster than a standard trial. They prioritized medical parole due to its quicker process. Meanwhile, Jian Zi waited anxiously at the bar for news about his father.
Tang Yin, observing his distress, felt a pang of guilt. She wondered if Li Yongji's arrest of Zhan Shili was somehow linked to her, recalling how she and Jian Zi had been seen together just before. Deciding she needed to act, Tang Yin offered to visit Zhan Shili on Jian Zi's behalf, knowing Jian Zi couldn't make a public appearance. Jian Zi, though worried, agreed, urging her to be careful.
Back at the police station, Li Yongji instructed Cai Jiayi to activate the interrogation room's surveillance. He then entered the room alone to question Zhan Shili. Zhan Shili remained uncooperative and calm, even taunting Li Yongji by saying he didn't understand what "chaos" meant, implying Li Yongji was the one feeling confused. Zhan Shili also confidently stated that the Autumn Group's professional leadership would manage fine even if he died in custody.
Irritated by Zhan Shili's composure, Li Yongji stormed out, vowing not to give the cunning old fox another chance to escape justice. Tang Yin arrived at the police station, hoping to visit Zhan Shili. The officers initially refused her entry due to regulations. She managed to get Li Yongji's attention, and he, intrigued by her presence, allowed the visit, seeing it as an opportunity to gain information.
Tang Yin, still convinced that Li Yongji was acting out of jealousy, assured him she would maintain her distance from Jian Zi if that was his concern. She asked about Zhan Shili's health and expressed her desire to help mediate the situation. During her visit, Tang Yin, believing Zhan Shili was innocent but in a difficult situation, told him that if he didn't want to remain in custody, he could feign illness to buy time, just like in TV dramas.
She even demonstrated how to act, suggesting heart pain. Li Yongji, monitoring the conversation, immediately recognized the implications of her "advice." He ordered her removal from the interrogation room, concluding that Tang Yin's connection to Zhan Shili and the Autumn Group might be deeper than he initially thought. As Tang Yin was being escorted out, she reassured Zhan Shili that she wouldn't leave until he was safe, acknowledging her perceived role in his predicament.
Shortly after Tang Yin's departure, an alarm sounded from the interrogation room: Zhan Shili had suffered a sudden relapse of an old illness and had collapsed, requiring immediate medical attention. Simultaneously, the Autumn Group's butler arrived at the police station with Zhan Shili's personal medication, demanding its immediate use and formally requesting medical parole, citing the inadequate medical facilities at the police station. Li Yongji refused to allow unverified medication and insisted on his own medical experts.
The butler threatened legal action, accusing the police of neglect and potential "unfair treatment" of Zhan Shili, especially given his sudden illness within police custody. The Director convened an emergency meeting to address the escalating situation. Representatives from various government agencies, pre-emptively influenced by the Autumn Group's connections, presented transfer requests for Zhan Shili, each claiming jurisdiction over specific charges like tax evasion and arms smuggling.
Li Yongji challenged the timing and validity of these requests, arguing that the Autumn Group's network of influence was too extensive on South Island for Zhan Shili to remain there safely. He asserted that the police's case group held primary jurisdiction due to concrete evidence of "black murder." The other officials accused Li Yongji of making reckless statements and disregarding legal procedures. The Director, facing immense pressure, suggested granting Zhan Shili medical parole as a compromise.
Li Yongji initially refused, insisting he would bear full responsibility, but then presented an authorization document from the Supreme Inspector, affirming his authority to investigate and conclude major cases without administrative interference, effectively solidifying his control over Zhan Shili's case. With the Supreme Inspector's backing, Li Yongji agreed to medical parole for Zhan Shili, but with a critical stipulation: Zhan Shili must be transferred to Singapore for treatment, not remain on South Island.
This bold move, widely reported by the media, was designed by Li Yongji to lure out "Facebook," a mysterious figure he aimed to capture. Aware of Li Yongji's strategy, the cunning Zhan Shili, via his butler, sent a message to Jian Zi, instructing him to "not take any action" regardless of what happened.
Back at the police station, Tang Yin, still consumed by guilt and worry for Zhan Shili, remained outside the interrogation room, waiting for news and making a phone call to Jian Zi to assure him that his father was recovering from the relapse.
Episode 10 Recap
Upon hearing news reports that Zhan Shili was to be transported to Singapore, Suo Tou became deeply concerned for his safety. Under the soft confinement of Jin Lin, he resorted to force to escape from her residence. Meanwhile, Li Yongji meticulously planned Zhan Shili's transfer, intending to use him as bait to lure out Face. As a precautionary measure, he had an explosive device secretly installed on the escort ambulance.
During a briefing, Li Yongji stressed to his officers the importance of wearing bulletproof vests and explicitly instructed them that if Face were to appear, they should abandon the vehicle and prioritize their own lives. He dismissed a suggestion to increase police presence, reiterating that the primary objective was to capture Face, and urged Officer Cai to trust his judgment and adhere to orders. Tang Yin, concerned for Zhan Shili's well-being, requested to join the escort.
However, Officer Cai Jiayi refused, explaining the mission was too dangerous and that Li Yongji would not approve. Officer Cai also stated that Zhan Shili did not warrant her sympathy, but Tang Yin felt a personal responsibility for his situation. Undeterred, Tang Yin covertly disguised herself as one of the accompanying nurses.
Once inside the ambulance, she called Jian Zi, informing him she was on her way to the airport to ensure his father's safe transfer to Singapore for medical treatment. Jian Zi, realizing Tang Yin was now in danger, expressed to his master that despite Zhan Shili's earlier orders not to intervene, he had to protect Tang Yin. He explained that Tang Yin's phone had died and requested access to a deeper communication network to reactivate her phone's embedded tracker.
After a moment of hesitation and a challenging question about his priorities, his master granted him access, advising him to protect himself and be prepared for unforeseen circumstances. Soon after, Face, revealed to be Suo Tou driving a hijacked police car, launched an assault on the ambulance. The ambulance driver, Da Nian, struggled to evade Suo Tou's relentless pursuit. Li Yongji was then informed that Tang Yin had swapped places with the original nurse.
Deeply alarmed, he immediately ordered Da Nian to stop the ambulance and ensure Tang Yin's safe evacuation. Suo Tou then forced the ambulance off the road, shot and killed Da Nian, and commanded Tang Yin to attend to Zhan Shili, declaring that Zhan Shili must remain alive until the official transfer of his enterprise was complete. Through the ambulance's internal camera, Suo Tou taunted Li Yongji and the police for their perceived incompetence.
Just as Li Yongji prepared to detonate the installed bomb, the ambulance entered a monitoring blind spot, causing the video feed to disappear. Li Yongji promptly reissued his orders, emphasizing that Tang Yin's safety was the absolute top priority for all police units involved in the search. Tang Yin, inside the ambulance, whispered to Zhan Shili to continue feigning sleep, informing him they were now being held by the masked assailant.
Jian Zi, driving his own vehicle, arrived and pursued the ambulance, intent on rescuing both Tang Yin and Zhan Shili. Face (Suo Tou), unable to maneuver further, crashed into a large rock and was rendered unconscious. Jian Zi quickly made his way to the ambulance, where he and Tang Yin shared a profound embrace. Tang Yin reassured him that Zhan Shili was unharmed, and Jian Zi tenderly bandaged her hand, which was bleeding from the ordeal.
Seizing the moment, Jian Zi removed Face's mask, discovering to his great surprise that it was Suo Tou. He then instructed Tang Yin to take his father to the airport via a specific exit, assuring her that the police would not impede her. He explained that he had other matters to attend to and would remain behind. After Tang Yin departed, Jian Zi detonated his own vehicle.
As police units arrived at the scene to conduct a thorough search for Face, Jian Zi and Suo Tou, having swiftly disguised themselves as police officers, took control of a police vehicle and drove away unnoticed by the authorities. Li Yongji, inspecting the crash site, soon realized that Face was actually a police officer, confirming he had been cleverly outmaneuvered. Tang Yin successfully transported Zhan Shili to the airport. Exhausted and shaken, she collapsed into Officer Cai's arms upon arrival.
After she regained consciousness, she learned that Face had escaped and Jian Zi's whereabouts were unknown. Fearing that Jian Zi had been kidnapped by Face, she expressed profound concern for his safety to Officer Cai. Officer Cai, in turn, relayed to a colleague the discovery of an off-road vehicle at the crash site and inquired about the status of any injured individuals. Realizing the implications, he grew concerned that Jian Zi might indeed have been taken hostage.
Meanwhile, Jian Zi brought Suo Tou to a secluded darkroom to treat his injuries. As Jian Zi worked, Suo Tou, observing the brother he grew up with, slowly raised a gun, pointing it at Jian Zi, and in a chilling tone, asked, "Should I call you Jian Zi, or should I call you Face, my dear brother?"
Episode 11 Recap
Suo Tou, having learned that Jian Zi is the Mask, confronted his brother in the darkroom. He was furious, believing Jian Zi, the seemingly weakest of their brothers, was actually the most formidable and had killed Shen Keke. Jian Zi, shocked, protested that he had not done anything to betray Suo Tou and believed the Mask, whom he thought was Suo Tou, was responsible for Shen Keke's death.
As both accused each other, Jian Zi, with a gun pressed to his head, bravely maintained his innocence. Exasperated, Suo Tou yelled, questioning if the police were the real killers. This sparked a memory in Jian Zi of Li Yongji deleting files in the darkroom, leading him to suspect the police. Suo Tou, however, refused to believe Jian Zi, declaring that he could no longer trust his brother.
Driven by a sense of injustice, Suo Tou asserted his determination to reclaim everything that was rightfully his. Jian Zi questioned his brother's obsession with wealth and power, asking if it was worth killing their own kind. Suo Tou retaliated by asking if Zhan Shili had considered any father-son sentiment when he sent people to kill him.
Torn between his father and his brother, Jian Zi was in agony, struggling to comprehend how their situation had devolved to such a painful state. The inspection team arrived at the major case group to take Li Yongji in for investigation. Inspector Wu directly stated her suspicion that Li Yongji's personal biases influenced his actions in the case.
She presented a dossier on Li Yongji's background, alleging that all evidence pointed to him using his position to exact revenge on Autumn Gate. She warned him against continued resistance, urging him to confess for the good of everyone, especially his subordinates. Li Yongji appeared unconcerned, maintaining a composed demeanor.
After helping Zhan Shili clear his name, Jin Lin, while still unsure if Li Yongji was a hidden move by her late husband, noted his eagerness to take down Zhan Shili. She concluded that he could be a valuable asset in the future. Meanwhile, she recognized Suo Tou's greatest weakness was his sentimentality, a trait she intended to exploit to eliminate him.
Her subordinate reported that Suo Tou had merely injured Zhan Shili's men and left "xiuer's schoolbag" as a symbolic threat. Jin Lin decided this confirmed Suo Tou's threat and his eventual elimination. Fearing for Jian Zi's safety, Tang Yin went to the small pub to find him. There, she unexpectedly discovered a tiny microchip—the much-sought-after encoder—hidden inside the bracelet she and Shen Keke had bought together.
She immediately headed to the police station to report it, but due to Li Yongji's investigation, the entire major case group was quarantined. Cai Jiayi advised her not to take any action and to trust Li Yongji. Wearing the bracelet, Tang Yin felt anxious. She called Jian Zi to inform him that she had the encoder. Suo Tou overheard the conversation and demanded that Tang Yin come alone with the encoder, or Jian Zi's life would be forfeit.
Concerned for Jian Zi, Tang Yin went by herself. Meanwhile, Suo Tou's men arrived, subdued Jian Zi, and waited for Tang Yin's arrival. Jian Zi pleaded with Suo Tou to reconsider and apologize to their father, suggesting he might be forgiven. Suo Tou dismissed his words as naive, revealing the brutal truth of Autumn Gate: their "retired" brothers were not living happily abroad but were permanently gone.
He chillingly explained that the more people one kills, the longer one survives, comparing their situation to raising hunting dogs where only the last survivor thrives. He recounted the horror of killing Brother Dao, describing how he stabbed him six times, and how he had believed A Zhong would be his last kill. He confessed that Jian Zi's presence made him feel human, making it hard to kill him.
After a day of interrogation, as Li Yongji prepared to drive home, he found a note from Tang Yin in his car. It stated that Jian Zi had been taken hostage and that she was bringing the encoder to save him, providing the specific address: k o 8 shipping terminal, Haining Road. Concerned for Tang Yin's safety, Li Yongji immediately drove to the location. On the way, he was intercepted by Jin Lin's people.
Jin Lin, seemingly a step ahead, assured him that Tang Yin would be safe and earnestly tried to persuade him to collaborate with her. Given his deep-seated hatred for Autumn Gate, Li Yongji found himself wavering. Due to Officer Li's investigation, Cai Jiayi was transferred back to the anti-pornography group. Upon her return, she found Mai Quancheng arrested once again. Witnessing his unrepentant attitude, Cai Jiayi, whose feelings for him had clearly changed, grew angry.
Episode 12 Recap
In the inner workings of Qiu Men, Zhan Shili held a meeting with his elders, discussing their legal enterprise and the need to adapt to changing times. He then introduced Suo Tou as his son. During the meeting, a representative of the Flying Gang, Funeral Ghost, tried to push for drug trafficking, but Zhan Shili refused, upholding Qiu Men’s anti-drug stance.
Funeral Ghost cursed and questioned Qiu Men's power, mentioning that the Flying Gang had previously helped Qiu Men unify and that Faceless had killed people for them. Suo Tou, fiercely loyal to Qiu Men’s principles of loyalty and righteousness, insulted Funeral Ghost and his Flying Gang. The confrontation escalated, and Suo Tou brutally killed the leader of the Flying Gang, stating that "non-my-kind" individuals would surely have different intentions.
Zhan Shili, while warning Suo Tou not to be too arrogant, acknowledged his son's ruthlessness. Tang Yin arrived at the wharf alone to find Jian Zi held captive and badly injured. She confronted Suo Tou, asserting that Jian Zi was not involved and demanding his release. Jian Zi, in turn, offered his own life as collateral to ensure Tang Yin’s safety. Suo Tou, facing his former younger brother, ultimately had a moment of mercy.
He administered an anesthetic to Jian Zi and arranged for him to be transported to Hong Kong, hoping he could start a new life there. This act was also Suo Tou’s way of proving to Zhan Shili that brotherhood extended beyond mutual destruction. Faced with their impending separation, Tang Yin realized her deep love for Jian Zi, often referred to as "the kid." They shared a heartfelt kiss goodbye, confirming her feelings.
Suo Tou, with a cruel laugh, remarked that they might never see each other again, musing on the pain of being alive and in love yet separated forever. Meanwhile, Li Yongji, disregarding Jin Lin's earlier advice, utilized his personal connections to gather police officers and headed towards the address Tang Yin had left. He briefed the officers on the hostage situation, noting it involved possibly two hostages at a complex boathouse, with the primary objective being their safety.
He also received an update via phone confirming that blood samples from Tang Achai's kidnapping matched Suo Tou, confirming that Suo Tou was indeed alive. Despite the ongoing internal investigation against him and the Major Crimes Unit, Li Yongji pressed forward, stating he could not stand by while criminals operated freely. Unbeknownst to many, Jin Lin orchestrated these events from behind the scenes.
She leveraged Suo Tou's elaborate trap to her advantage, simultaneously building rapport with Li Yongji and locating Tang Yin. She planned to use Li Yongji to eliminate Suo Tou, ensuring she would reap the ultimate benefits. Jin Lin observed the situation, ordering a video of Tang Yin’s torture to be sent to Li Yongji, warning her subordinates not to let Suo Tou kill Tang Yin, as Tang Yin knew the most about the encoder.
Jin Lin refrained from intervening personally, maintaining her image as a benevolent figure in Tang Yin’s eyes, confident she could extract information from Tang Yin later. She acknowledged Suo Tou's plan, which allowed her to gain favors from both Li Yongji and Tang Yin, and most importantly, facilitated the elimination of Suo Tou, as she and Xiuer could not sleep peacefully otherwise. She further schemed to create leverage against Li Yongji by framing him for privately shooting a fugitive.
Later, when her informants reported Li Yongji’s arrival with police, Jin Lin personally intercepted him, urging him to withdraw his team and threatening to expose him to the media if he refused. Li Yongji insisted on rescuing the hostages, to which Jin Lin guaranteed Tang Yin's safety, citing Suo Tou's injuries and her men surrounding him. She also revealed that Faceless was trapped inside, destined to be "a lamb to be slaughtered."
Eventually, under Jin Lin's influence, Li Yongji's team was told to retreat due to "erroneous intelligence." Jin Lin then tried to recruit Li Yongji, suggesting cooperation to acquire the encoder and dismantle Qiu Men without violence, highlighting that Tang Yin was safe and his presence was inappropriate. After dispatching Jian Zi, Suo Tou subjected Tang Yin to threats and torture, demanding the location of the encoder.
Tang Yin attempted to stall, daring him to kill her, saying the chip would be lost forever. Suo Tou tortured her using an electrified harpoon, describing the grim process of whale hunting. Tang Yin, in agony, offered to reveal the location after Jian Zi's safe arrival in Hong Kong, distrusting Suo Tou and fearing he might recapture Jian Zi.
When he refused, she untied herself, then presented him with several bracelets, claiming the encoder was hidden among them but that she couldn't remember which one. She suggested they search for the other bracelets, which she claimed were left at the police station hotel. Suo Tou, realizing her ploy, became enraged, accusing her of playing games. Tang Yin further enraged him by accusing him of murdering Coco, her best friend.
Suo Tou vehemently denied this, stating that he would have killed Coco’s murderer if he knew who it was, despite police evidence pointing to him. Suo Tou, frustrated by her defiance and believing she was withholding information, continued to torment her. At that critical moment, Faceless arrived, warning Suo Tou that police were on their way. Suo Tou, accusing Tang Yin of alerting the authorities, swiftly ordered Faceless to take Tang Yin and retreat.
As they tried to escape, Suo Tou's subordinates, influenced by Jin Lin's scheme and seeking personal gain, betrayed him and blocked their path, stating they just wanted to live better lives. Faceless and Suo Tou, both injured, bravely fought against the overwhelming numbers. Realizing they were outnumbered, Suo Tou injected Faceless with a sedative, rendering him powerless, and forced Faceless and Tang Yin onto a boat, ordering them to flee.
Suo Tou declared he would stay behind to eliminate the traitors to Qiu Men and urged Faceless to protect the encoder, as he had risked his life for it. Faceless, distraught and unable to resist, watched in agony as Suo Tou was repeatedly stabbed by the betrayers. Suo Tou, with his last vestiges of strength, managed to kill all of his betrayers. However, Jin Lin emerged from the shadows and fatally shot him.
As he lay dying by the sea, Suo Tou saw a final, comforting vision of Coco before he closed his eyes forever. Nearby, Li Yongji observed that Tang Yin was safe and departed the scene alone, leaving the rest for the police to handle. Tang Yin, mustering her courage, unmasked Faceless, revealing Jian Zi beneath. She cast the mask into the sea and embraced Jian Zi just as the blaring sirens announced the arrival of the police.
Episode 13 Recap
Jian Zi awoke in the hospital to find Tang Yin sleeping by his bedside. In her sleep, she softly called his name, urging him to run. As Jian Zi gently caressed her hair, he reflected on recent events, shedding tears. He remembered past conversations about home, where Tang Yin had once told him that wherever she was, was home.
He, in turn, remembered saying that his home was across the sea, and her lamenting that he was too late, as she once had her own home. Meanwhile, Li Yongji returned to the ambulance involved in the incident, searching for the detonator he believed was hidden underneath. Finding it gone, he grew tense. He questioned the ambulance staff, sternly asking if anyone had touched the cab, despite being told no one usually went near that part of the vehicle.
He then apologized for his nervousness and dismissed them. Cai Jiayi visited Mai Quancheng in the detention room, only to find him as unrepentant as ever, giving unsolicited dating advice to other detainees. Disappointed by his behavior, Cai Jiayi confronted him, accusing him of illicit activities within the police station. Mai Quancheng defended himself, claiming he was merely teaching others to find girlfriends seriously, not engage in prostitution, and that he was helping the police.
Cai Jiayi then informed him that Jian Zi was critically injured and hospitalized. This news shocked Mai Quancheng, who immediately became contrite, grabbing Cai Jiayi's leg and begging to be released, promising to behave well in the future. Softening, Cai Jiayi agreed to let him out to visit Jian Zi, reminding him of his remaining detention time. Back at the hospital, Tang Yin watched the weak Jian Zi, crying as memories of their shared experiences flooded her mind.
Jian Zi awoke and, seeing her distress, felt a pang of heartache. They both tearfully apologized to each other. Tang Yin felt she was a burden to him, but Jian Zi believed his late brother, Suo Tou, was to blame. Remembering Suo Tou's sacrifice and his last words – "I will kill those who betrayed Qiu Men," and "Protect that changer; I risked my life for it, boatman!" – Jian Zi attempted to confess his identity as Face Mask.
However, Tang Yin seemed unwilling to discuss the matter, deliberately deflecting his attempts to speak. Just then, Mai Quancheng arrived, providing a timely interruption that Tang Yin secretly welcomed. He asked about Jian Zi's condition, who then made a joking comment about their "killer love." An emergency meeting was convened by the police regarding the previous night's gunfight. The Director instructed the major case group to manage the aftermath.
During the meeting, the supervision department announced the results of their investigation into Officer Li Yongji. He was to be immediately suspended and awaiting review, with the major case group being disbanded and restructured. While others whispered about the severity of the decision and a potential power centralization, Li Yongji appeared unfazed. He calmly accepted the decision, stating that all actions were his own and pleading with the Director not to blame his colleagues.
As he packed his personal belongings, Li Yongji took with him the Face Mask retrieved from the sea, determined to uncover the secrets behind Qiu Men. He also privately believed his return to the force would not be far off. Meanwhile, Director Ding received a call from Zhan Shili, who assured him of Jian Zi's protection and also informed him of a "great gift" he intended to send.
After the call, the Director instructed a subordinate to ensure all of Jian Zi's needs were met and to assign a special team to handle the "Lu Gougong" matter, pondering what the gift could be. Despite his suspension, Li Yongji persisted in his private investigation. He visited Jian Zi at the hospital, ostensibly to check on his well-being but secretly to interrogate him. Jian Zi was uncooperative, refusing to speak.
Tang Yin quickly intervened, explaining that Jian Zi was timid and still recovering from a traumatic experience. Li Yongji, as the Deputy Director of the police department, pressed on, showing photos from the crime scene and questioning why only Jian Zi and Tang Yin were unharmed while Suo Tou suffered over twenty stab wounds and other perpetrators were killed. Tang Yin continued to shield Jian Zi, emphasizing his fear and inability to recall details. She begged Li Yongji to stop.
Li Yongji eventually relented, telling Jian Zi to rest and contact him if he remembered anything, and then asked Tang Yin to meet him later to discuss the note he had left for her previously. Jian Zi, not fully recovered, insisted on being discharged from the hospital. Mai Quancheng, frustrated, informed Tang Yin, expecting her to dissuade Jian Zi. To his astonishment, Tang Yin not only agreed to his discharge but also offered to help with the procedures.
Mai Quancheng complained that they both seemed to have lost their minds, but ultimately agreed to help them get a car. During this time, Jian Zi also spoke with Mai Quancheng about his previous dark investigations, emphasizing Qiu Men's power and acknowledging that while Li Yongji's suspension seemed beneficial, Li Yongji "is not that simple." Later, Jin Lin arrived at the hospital, feigning a coincidental encounter.
She attempted to subtly question Tang Yin about the previous night's events, expressing curiosity about why a high-level criminal like Face Mask would target "ordinary people" like them, suggesting they might possess something he desired. Sensing Jin Lin's hidden agenda, Jian Zi cleverly sent Tang Yin away to retrieve an item. He then directly told Jin Lin that Tang Yin was naive and that any questions should be directed to him.
Jin Lin, feigning ignorance about Suo Tou's connection to Jian Zi and about Suo Tou's death, deepened Jian Zi's suspicions. She quickly took her leave, though not without inviting them to her home. That evening, Jian Zi secretly infiltrated Jin Lin's home. Using a locating system, he overheard a phone conversation between Jin Lin and her subordinate.
Jin Lin confirmed that an investigation in Jiangsu had revealed evidence implicating Li Yongji, with Uncle Zhang having stolen Chairman Pei's confidential documents containing correspondence and transfer records involving Li Yongji. She also inquired if "the messenger" had been "handled," her subordinate assuring her that "dead men tell no tales." Just as he gathered this information, Jian Zi was discovered and had to make a swift escape.
Jin Lin's subordinate mentioned not seeing anyone wearing a face mask, leaving Jin Lin to wonder if it truly wasn't "him." When Tang Yin woke up that night to find Jian Zi gone, she grew anxious. Upon opening her door, she found Jian Zi returning, his wound having reopened. Despite her anger at his recklessness, she gently re-bandaged his injury, using a special medicine his master had given him.
She firmly told him he was not to go anywhere without her permission. Jian Zi, feeling her concern, was deeply moved and thanked her for always bringing him warmth. He also warned her to be careful of Li Yongji and Jin Lin, stating they were "not as simple as you think," but Tang Yin insisted he focus on his own recovery. Before returning to her room, she left his door ajar, telling him to call if he felt unwell.
Separately, Qiu Men's housekeeper, who was also Jian Zi's master, received a phone call from Zhan Shili. After the conversation, he mused that "the day is going to change," expressing concern about pushing Jian Zi too hard.
Episode 14 Recap
A flashback shows a young Song Mingzhu asking Jian Zi if he truly has to return to his motherland, wondering if it's not good to stay where they are. Jian Zi explains it's not "going" but "returning," stating that his mother told him his life would only be complete there. Mingzhu asks if it's really that good, and Jian Zi simply replies, "That's my home."
Later, as a child, Mingzhu sadly tells Jian Zi she has to leave to study abroad and makes him promise to wait for her, adding that she will accompany him back to his motherland. She playfully teases him, saying he's so big he'll never get a girlfriend. Years later, a lively Song Mingzhu is surrounded by reporters at the airport, who are eager to hear about her return plans.
They ask about rumors of job offers from prestigious hospitals in America and Beijing, and her views on South Island. Song Mingzhu manages to make a brief comment about being a citizen of South Island before being overwhelmed. Zhan Shili arrives, and she exclaims, "Uncle Zhan, you should have come to save me long ago! I was chased by reporters!" Zhan Shili, calling her a "famous genius beauty," jokes that being low-key isn't in vogue.
He then mentions wanting to quickly return to see if her father, Director Song, likes the "big gift" he brought back—referring to Song Mingzhu herself. Meanwhile, a suspended Li Yongji watches a news report. It announces Zhan Shili's acquittal and the lifting of all restrictions against him by the authorities, with Qiu Men Group donating 10 million USD for island medical facilities to express admiration for Song Mingzhu's patriotism.
The news then reports that Luo Zhengan, the second attorney general of the State High Procuratorate, was found dead at home from a sudden myocardial infarction, despite having no prior heart conditions. Deeply shocked by the news of his superior's death and Zhan Shili's release, Li Yongji performs a solemn military salute in sorrow. After some recovery, Jian Zi's health has improved. Tang Yin sits by the sea, wishing for their lives to remain peaceful.
Jian Zi gently embraces her from behind, but Tang Yin playfully pushes him away, telling him to go upstairs and rest. As they continue to tease each other, Tang Yin accidentally trips on the stairs and falls onto Jian Zi. Embarrassed, she quickly gets up and runs off. Mai Quancheng, observing their interaction, feels his matchmaking instincts rekindle.
Jian Zi seizes an opportunity to send Mai Quancheng away after Mai finishes a phone call with Cai Jiayi, hoping for some alone time with Tang Yin. After Mai Quancheng leaves, Tang Yin expresses that she is content with their peaceful life and believes that living better and happier is what those they lost would want. Just as they are sharing a tender moment, the Qiu Men butler arrives at the tavern, instructing them to attend Suo Tou's funeral.
At Zhan Shili's residence, Song Mingzhu offers tea to her father, Director Song, and Zhan Shili. Director Song playfully scolds her for forgetting him after studying abroad, while Zhan Shili praises her as a "hope for cardiology." Director Song then complains that Mingzhu first sought out Zhan Shili, making it seem like she's closer to him than her own father.
Zhan Shili reveals that Mingzhu is looking forward to seeing Jian Zi, and Mingzhu, in a giddy mood, runs upstairs to get ready. Once she's gone, Director Song thanks Zhan Shili for the "gift" of his daughter. Zhan Shili then reveals a second "big gift": he offers to help Director Song secure the vacant Prosecutor General position, following Luo Zhengan's death.
Director Song expresses skepticism due to the delicate balance of power, but Zhan Shili assures him that he has already "taken care of several important members" and that with the Song family's continued efforts, the position would be "secure." He emphasizes that entering the Supreme Procuratorate is a crucial step towards the Legislative Yuan. Unable to resist, Director Song accepts the "gift." Cai Jiayi drives Mai Quancheng to see his mother.
On the way, she complains about the police having to maintain order for Suo Tou's elaborate funeral, seeing it as Qiu Men's blatant challenge designed to embarrass the police. Mai Quancheng's mood drops drastically when she mentions his mother. He demands she stop the car, revealing his deep-seated resentment towards any form of "social aid" for his family, seeing it as charity that would make them "fools."
Cai Jiayi questions his alternative, leading him to confess a painful secret: since his first encounter with clients, he discovered a "physiological problem"—he has no physical response during "money-for-sex transactions." To hide this, he administers drugs to his female clients. He admits to his "impotence" and suggests it's due to developing drug resistance. Cai Jiayi retorts that he "deserved it." They bicker again, with Mai Quancheng jokingly accusing her of liking him because she cares so much.
Cai Jiayi vehemently denies this, stating that as a police officer, it's her duty to correct even "a puppy who makes mistakes." Jian Zi and Tang Yin arrive at Qiu Men for Suo Tou's funeral. Jian Zi kneels to keep vigil for his brother.
In a trance, he sees an apparition of Suo Tou, who gently tells him to "learn to let go" and not to carry regrets and guilt for his brother and Keke until his death, as he did. Suo Tou reflects on his life, acknowledging Zhan Shili's kindness in giving him a proper burial despite his past.
He talks about his youthful ambition to be a legend like Zhan Shili, only to realize that "there is only one Zhan Shili," and he could never replicate that path; "Suo Tou is Suo Tou," he couldn't become a "prince." He expresses regret for his failed ambition to control Qiu Men, which he thought would allow Jian Zi to pursue happiness and freedom.
Suo Tou advises Jian Zi to "always keep your path in your own hands," and not end up like him, dying with "regrets and guilt for yourself, for your brother, for that woman." He bids Jian Zi farewell, and the vision fades, leaving Jian Zi deeply shaken. Later, Zhan Shili has a private conversation with Tang Yin. He thanks her for her care in the ambulance, crediting her with saving his life, and offers financial and other support.
He then requests that she forgive Suo Tou for his past actions. Tang Yin replies that Suo Tou ultimately saved her, so she bears no ill will. At this moment, Song Mingzhu enters, arm-in-arm with Jian Zi. Introducing herself as Jian Zi's childhood sweetheart, she pointedly thanks Tang Yin for caring for him over the years.
Song Mingzhu then proposes to move to the tavern with her medical equipment to care for Jian Zi, citing his incomplete recovery and his dislike for hospitals. Jian Zi immediately declines, stating he can go to a hospital if needed, and that Tang Yin's care is sufficient. Zhan Shili interjects, praising Mingzhu as a "medical genius" and insisting that Jian Zi treat her "like family," calling this an "early adaptation."
He subtly reminds Jian Zi that Tang Yin, as an unmarried woman, should not be living with him. Mingzhu, reinforcing her claim, states that she didn't study in America but in Shanghai, a place Jian Zi once wanted to visit, and Zhan Shili supports this fabrication. Though saddened, Tang Yin assures Zhan Shili that she understands her place. Outside the funeral, Jin Lin approaches Li Yongji, noting his absence from the ceremony.
She comments on his uprightness compared to those who "bow down" to survive. Jin Lin then reveals she knows he "set up Suo Tou" and questions his safety if that information were to spread. She proposes a plan to destroy Qiu Men by crippling their casino's financial chain, which is their sole source of funds after investing heavily in a resort.
Jin Lin intends to produce "massive fake chips" and requires Li Yongji's "police force" to safely transport them from international waters to the island. Li Yongji expresses skepticism about her ability to challenge Zhan Shili, suggesting her evidence isn't strong enough. Jin Lin retorts that Zhan Shili has already eliminated all immediate threats and will target them next, hinting that Li Yongji's suspension is part of this.
When Li Yongji questions how fake chips can impact Qiu Men, Jin Lin reveals that with his assistance, the "fake chips can become real chips," and she then mentions "Tang Yin," implying her crucial role in the scheme.
Episode 15 Recap
Jian Zi confronted Zhan Shili, questioning if his "sons" were merely tools for service and sacrifice, devoid of any genuine affection. Zhan Shili responded that relentless struggle was essential for strength. He recounted saving a 12-year-old Jian Zi from a street fight, seeing his own past stubbornness in the boy.
He claimed he valued Jian Zi the most among his sons, teaching him ambition, but lamented Jian Zi's impatience and his own mistake of teaching him too much greed without showing him how to control it. He said that if Jian Zi had only waited, everything would have been his, adding that emotions were a hindrance, a "shackle" for people like them.
Jian Zi argued that they revered him like a father, even willing to die for him, and asked if Zhan Shili viewed them as hunting dogs or disposable garbage, comparing his method to "Gu," where only the strongest survive to be king. Jian Zi then brought up Suo Tou, who had endured to the end, yet was still forced by Zhan Shili. Zhan Shili explained that the "black world" had changed, and the "Lianpu" identity was no longer needed.
He told Jian Zi he didn't need to die, as the world only knew "Lianpu" and not Jian Zi. Jian Zi then pulled out a gun, demanding Zhan Shili either kill him or set him free. Zhan Shili promised his freedom after he completed one final task, assuring him that this time it was real. Reluctantly, Jian Zi agreed, then screamed his frustration into the vast sea.
Zhan Shili observed Jian Zi, noting that he had learned to suppress his emotions. Later, Song Mingzhu meticulously bandaged Jian Zi’s wounds at the small pub, instructing him to avoid certain foods that would hinder his recovery, implying that Brother Quan Cheng might have bought inappropriate items. Just then, Tang Yin arrived to bid farewell.
She explained that she had stayed to care for him while he was recovering, but with Song Mingzhu, a capable doctor, now present, she could return to her hotel. As Tang Yin turned to leave, Jian Zi embraced her from behind, imploring her to stay. Tang Yin, though secretly angered, feigned indifference, telling Song Mingzhu that Jian Zi was merely dependent on her because she had cared for him for so long, like a child throwing a tantrum.
Song Mingzhu acknowledged Jian Zi’s occasional willfulness. To demonstrate his earnestness, Jian Zi cupped Tang Yin’s face and kissed her deeply. Surprised, Tang Yin paused for a few seconds before pushing him away, playfully scolding him for acting like a "rascal" and hastily departing with a flushed face. Jian Zi jokingly retorted that it wasn’t being a "rascal" if it wasn't obvious, recalling a previous intimate moment where she had kissed him claiming it was to save him.
Walking alone, her mind reeling from the kiss, Tang Yin was suddenly met by a car, which turned out to be driven by Li Yongji. At Li Yongji's home, Tang Yin confided her emotional turmoil, expressing confusion about people's "inconsistency" and her recent argument with Jian Zi. She mentioned that Jian Zi had a childhood sweetheart, Song Mingzhu, living at his house, yet he had pursued her.
Li Yongji advised her to clear up any misunderstandings, suggesting she might be overlooking a good man. He then reminded her of a note she had left him, mentioning an "encoder." Tang Yin remembered and handed over the encoder, begging him to find Coco's killer. She recounted Suo Tou's dying words, which suggested he was not Coco's killer and not the real "Lianpu."
Li Yongji corroborated that Suo Tou was indeed not the true "Lianpu" and that the actual killer remained at large. He explained that he was currently suspended and unable to conduct official investigations. He then returned the encoder to Tang Yin, assuring her it was safer with her for the time being, but cautioned her against revealing its existence to anyone, promising to ensure her safety.
Meanwhile, Jian Zi candidly told Song Mingzhu that he harbored no romantic feelings for her and could no longer abide by his father's arrangements. Song Mingzhu, understanding his plight, stated that if liking him was a problem, it was her own. She wished him happiness and encouraged him to seek his own bliss. She mused that some things were beyond their control and not something they could choose, but hoped he would live without regret.
Jian Zi, unable to let go of Tang Yin, used his phone's location tracker to pinpoint her at Li Yongji's apartment. Seeing them enjoying drinks and conversation, he became infuriated and conceived a mischievous plan. As Li Yongji subtly probed Tang Yin about the ambulance incident from the airport, the doorbell rang. They became alert at the late-night visitor, only to find a delivery person with takeout food ordered in Tang Yin's name.
Over the next few minutes, more prepaid deliveries arrived, all addressed to Tang Yin. Tang Yin quickly realized it was Jian Zi’s doing, calling him a "bastard kid" and finding his childish antics both irritating and endearing. Deciding to play along, she called Jian Zi and began a deliberately flirtatious conversation with "Officer Li." True to her expectations, Jian Zi, fueled by jealousy, pounded on Li Yongji's door and refused to leave.
Unable to reason with him, Tang Yin had no choice but to take him away. Outside, Jian Zi urged Tang Yin to return with him, explaining that his relationship with Song Mingzhu was solely orchestrated by Zhan Shili and held no personal meaning for him. Tang Yin, knowing he couldn't defy Zhan Shili, feigned exhaustion, claiming she was tired of everything and simply wanted to go home.
She insisted they couldn’t give each other what they truly desired and that separating was the best option. She told him not to seek her out again, confessing that she had "had enough" and was plagued by nightmares of Coco's death and Suo Tou's bloody struggle, witnessing people die in front of her. She admitted to being an ordinary person who was afraid and longed for her former stable life. Jian Zi asked if she truly had a choice.
Tang Yin retorted that neither of them did, and she told him to go back, explicitly stating, "I don't love you." She apologized for intruding into his world, explaining that he couldn't provide the security she craved, just as she couldn't offer him the bright future that Song Mingzhu could. Jian Zi, distraught, declared that his future was with her and pleaded with her to trust him, promising he would soon be free, and they could live together.
Tang Yin, however, walked away, stating it wouldn't be that simple. Watching Tang Yin leave, heartbroken and defeated, Li Yongji made a profound decision. He resolved that perhaps the only thing he could do for her was to transform Nanda Island into the peaceful haven she envisioned in her heart. He whispered an apology.
Episode 16 Recap
Jian Zi, impatient for clarity, confronted Zhan Shili, demanding to know the nature of his final mission. Zhan Shili explained that Jian Zi’s identity as "Facebook" was a thing of the past; he would now assume the role of Qiumen's heir to expose and eliminate their hidden enemies, after which he would finally be free. Jian Zi accepted the task but insisted that Tang Yin should not be further entangled.
Zhan Shili, however, countered that Tang Yin was irrevocably drawn into their affairs the moment Shen Keke entrusted her with the encoder, adding that her involvement would also serve as a means to control Jian Zi. Zhan Shili further instructed Jian Zi to cultivate a good relationship with Mingzhu, even if it was merely a facade of familial affection. Li Yongji and Tang Yin both received invitations to the Qiumen heir, Jian Zi's, engagement banquet.
Li Yongji urged Tang Yin not to force herself, but she responded that she was fine and intended to go, explaining that it was a political marriage between the Li Han and Song families. She dismissed any notion of trying to stop it, assuring Li Yongji she had no such inclination, and viewed the invitations as a warning to him and an attempt to drive a wedge between her and Jian Zi.
She reaffirmed her commitment to staying involved, just as he would not abandon his investigation into Qiumen. At the opulent banquet, Jian Zi was met with congratulations, confused as he believed it was solely a celebration for Director Song's promotion. His confusion grew when Tang Yin arrived, escorted by Li Yongji, who offered his congratulations. Jian Zi, misunderstanding the situation, suspected Li Yongji of scheming against him.
Throughout the event, Jian Zi's eyes remained fixed on Tang Yin, who, despite her unease, feigned indifference. Mai Quancheng discreetly approached Tang Yin, remarking that this was the first time he had seen Jian Zi so captivated by a woman. He suggested that Jian Zi must be unaware it was an engagement banquet, or his character would prevent him from appearing.
Tang Yin remained tight-lipped, cynically calling Jian Zi a "scum man," before acknowledging Mingzhu's impressive background as a medical genius, proficient in six languages, the daughter of the Second Attorney General of the High Police Department, and Jian Zi's childhood sweetheart, noting their perfectly matched status now that Jian Zi was Qiumen’s heir. Meanwhile, Li Yongji used the opportunity to question Cai Jiayi about the ambulance from a previous incident. Cai Jiayi’s evasiveness suggested she was withholding information.
Li Yongji pressed her to be honest, and she eventually confessed that she had taken and destroyed the item hidden in the vehicle, explaining her desire to be a principled public servant and emphasizing the importance of strategic patience over impulsive actions. She advised him not to make decisions that could harm himself or others, hoping they could maintain their professional relationship.
When Zhan Shili formally announced the commencement of the engagement ceremony between Mingzhu and Jian Zi, the true nature of the event dawned on Jian Zi. Zhan Shili sternly reminded him of their agreement and his mission. Jian Zi struggled to suppress his rage, but as he prepared to place the ring on Mingzhu's finger, he found himself unable to go through with the deception.
Instead, he turned, walked directly to Tang Yin, placed the ring on her finger, and then swept her into his arms, carrying her out of the shocked ballroom. Tang Yin initially resisted, but Jian Zi held her close and kissed her passionately, a moment that sealed their feelings for each other. As Zhan Shili’s men began their pursuit, the couple made their escape by car. Tang Yin took the wheel, determined to escape their relentless pursuers.
They managed to evade capture when a section of the road was deliberately closed off, a move orchestrated by Li Yongji through his contacts, blocking Zhan Shili’s men. Observing Jian Zi and Tang Yin’s dramatic escape, Li Yongji crushed a wine glass in his hand, filled with regret over his own inability to fight for Tang Yin's love with the same courage.
An officer, who had previously assisted Li Yongji, remarked on Jian Zi's passionate display, praising his commitment to love. Back at the banquet, Zhan Shili was incandescent with rage over Jian Zi's defiance. He was forced to humble himself before Director Song, offering half of Qiumen's assets to Mingzhu as a dowry and pledging all his political and business connections to Director Song to salvage the alliance.
Mingzhu, despite her father's outrage, displayed a surprising understanding, suggesting Jian Zi’s actions were due to a rushed arranged marriage and urging Zhan Shili to retract his extravagant promises, but he firmly refused, reiterating Mingzhu as his chosen daughter-in-law. Later, Zhan Shili, noticing Li Yongji's evident distress, mockingly highlighted his recent professional and romantic misfortunes.
Li Yongji retorted with a grim wish for Zhan Shili's death, but Zhan Shili, unfazed, cryptically suggested that Li Yongji, though "toothless" now, could regain his power and become even more formidable, hinting at a potential future alliance or an offer for a new direction.
Episode 17 Recap
Tang Yin and Jian Zi fled the engagement, arriving at the seashore. Jian Zi expressed his regret for having pulled Tang Yin into such complicated affairs, stating that ever since he put on the facial mask, he became Zhan Shili's tool and lost his freedom. He wondered what he could possibly offer her by taking her away. Tang Yin, however, countered that she chose to stay because Jian Zi had always protected her, so she felt no fear.
She revealed that this incident had finally clarified her feelings, and she would no longer hide her love for him, vowing to be with him. Moved by her words, Jian Zi resolved to atone for his mistakes and gain his freedom for her as soon as possible, promising to enter her world rather than have her enter his. Meanwhile, Song Mingzhu was heartbroken over Jian Zi.
Director Song, seeing his beloved daughter so distressed, angrily chastised Jian Zi and offered to find her a more suitable husband. Mingzhu, however, insisted that she only wanted "Brother Jian Zi" and would handle her own matters. Exasperated, Director Song declared that he would break ties with Zhan Shili if necessary. Despite the chaos Jian Zi caused at the engagement, Zhan Shili saw an advantage, as it allowed him to publicly declare Jian Zi as the successor of Qiu Men.
When his housekeeper expressed concern about offending Director Song, Zhan Shili dismissively remarked that if one "dog" was not good enough, he could always get another. Later, Jian Zi asked Tang Yin for the encoder, intending to return it to Qiu Men, believing it would free them. Tang Yin refused, unwilling to let Coco's death be in vain and determined to make Qiu Men pay.
Jian Zi, however, was certain that Qiu Men was not involved and that the real killer was someone else. This prompted Tang Yin to recall Jin Lin's suspicious behavior, and she insisted on going with Jian Zi to confront her. Upon their visit to Jin Lin's home, Jian Zi feigned an urgent need for the restroom, using the opportunity to slip into the study to search for evidence.
Concurrently, Jin Lin received an urgent report that the "chip boat" was blocked from entering the port. Angered that Li Yongji had failed to secure clearance, she excused herself to discuss the matter in a private room with her subordinates, lamenting Li Yongji's uselessness after being temporarily dismissed. When Jian Zi did not return promptly, Tang Yin deliberately shattered a porcelain cup, creating a distraction to pull the housekeeper away from the study.
In the study, Tang Yin and Jian Zi discovered documents revealing financial transactions between Li Yongji and Han Qing. Tang Yin was deeply shaken, unable to believe that the righteous police officer she had trusted could be involved in such dealings. In her distress, she rushed out and ran into Jin Lin, who had just finished her urgent call. Tang Yin quickly fabricated a story about getting lost while looking for Jian Zi and accidentally stumbling into the study.
Jin Lin, though suspicious, pretended to believe Tang Yin, recognizing that she might still need Tang Yin in the future. On their way back, Zhan Shili called Jian Zi multiple times, who eventually answered. Jian Zi firmly told his father that he would marry no one but Tang Yin, not even for show. He offered to return the encoder once the cause of Coco's death was uncovered and it was proven that Qiu Men was not responsible.
He also used the information about Li Yongji and Han Qing's transactions that he found in Jin Lin's study as leverage, hoping to gain his freedom. Zhan Shili, using this information, called Li Yongji, mocking him for accepting money from the Hanxin Group and demanding his allegiance to Qiu Men. He threatened Li Yongji, suggesting that his patience was limited. Li Yongji, infuriated, believed Jin Lin had betrayed him and confronted her, accusing her of exposing his secret.
Jin Lin vehemently denied it, arguing that as allies, she would never harm him and suggested Zhan Shili was merely bluffing based on partial information. Elsewhere, Cai Jiayi and Mai Quancheng were enjoying the night view by a spring. The usually stern Cai Jiayi softened, advising Mai Quancheng to drink warm water when he got home and promising to bring him porridge the next day.
She even straightened his tie, a gesture that startled Mai Quancheng, making him wonder if she had truly fallen for him. After his heated discussion with Jin Lin, Li Yongji left her house and discovered Da Nian eavesdropping. Without hesitation, Jin Lin shot Da Nian, killing him. Li Yongji was heartbroken, witnessing the ruthless murder of his former subordinate, but Jin Lin showed no remorse. Instead, she urged him to quickly resume his official duties so they could work together to bring down Qiu Men once their "chip boat" successfully entered the port.
Episode 18 Recap
Li Yongji arrived at Qiu Men to meet Zhan Shili, seeking the conditions under which the latter would surrender the incriminating evidence. Zhan Shili stated that he would do so if Li Yongji, once promoted to a higher police position after Director Song’s eventual departure, would protect Qiu Men's interests.
Zhan Shili offered Li Yongji any form of power, wealth, or women he desired, emphasizing the mutually beneficial nature of their arrangement and openly expressing his high regard for Li Jinghuan, as he called Li Yongji. Feeling the terms were uneven, Li Yongji insisted on the immediate reinstatement of his former position. Zhan Shili requested three hours to provide a definitive answer, which Li Yongji accepted before departing.
Meanwhile, Jian Zi watched a sleeping Tang Yin, determined to secure a stable and peaceful life for her. He called his father, Zhan Shili, demanding the return of the encoder. Zhan Shili refused, explaining that Tang Yin, an ordinary tourist, was an ideal bait and a crucial asset to control Jian Zi and lure out their enemies.
Jian Zi argued that the encoder was a ticking time bomb on Tang Yin, putting her in constant danger, but Zhan Shili remained unyielding, warning Jian Zi against any rash actions. Soon after, Li Yongji was informed that a review had cleared his name, and he was promoted to Director. Director Song congratulated him, reminding him of the greater responsibilities his new position entailed.
Li Yongji then subtly mentioned that Chairman Zhan had sought him out, expressing a desire for a stable alliance with Qiu Men, similar to Director Song's past relationship with the group. This information infuriated Director Song, confirming Li Yongji's suspicion that their alliance was fragile. As his first official act, Director Li Yongji ordered the release of Jin Lin’s ship, B235, which Inspector Wu had impounded at customs.
Li Yongji publicly reprimanded Inspector Wu, stressing the importance of thoroughness and evidence in police work and making it clear that the Nandao Police Department had no place for lax officials. Later, discussing Li Yongji’s rapid promotion with his subordinate, Zhan Shili saw it as a timely warning to Director Song. Despite his subordinate’s concerns about a potential fallout with Director Song, Zhan Shili believed it wouldn’t escalate to that.
He instructed his subordinate to send a lavish gift to Director Song, reaffirming Qiu Men’s unwavering support regardless of Director Song’s future career path, and confirming that the planned marriage alliance remained unchanged. Jian Zi confronted Zhan Shili, accusing him of going back on their agreement that both he and Tang Yin would serve as bait, with Jian Zi being freed once their enemies were eliminated.
Jian Zi insisted that he alone was sufficient as bait and demanded Tang Yin's release. Zhan Shili threatened to keep Jian Zi confined if he wouldn't comply. Jian Zi promised to obey all his father's commands if only the encoder was retrieved from Tang Yin. Zhan Shili offered a deal: if Jian Zi apologized to Director Song and immediately married Mingzhu, he would investigate Keke's death and ensure Tang Yin's safe return to her home country.
Driven to desperation, Jian Zi threatened to personally retrieve the encoder. Enraged, Zhan Shili suffered a health episode and ordered the butler to confine Jian Zi to his room, forbidding him from leaving. Jian Zi expressed his deep concern for Tang Yin, alone at the pub, fearing for her safety.
In his office, Li Yongji learned that Da Nian, a subordinate assigned to monitor targets, had gone missing after visiting the dock the previous day, and his family confirmed he hadn't returned. This news, reinforcing the previous episode's tragic revelation of Jin Lin killing Da Nian, solidified Li Yongji's fear of losing more people important to him. He quickly resolved to send Tang Yin away to ensure her safety.
Confined to his room, Jian Zi tried to reason with his master, the butler, to let him go, worried about Tang Yin, who still had the encoder. The butler spoke in riddles, urging Jian Zi to let go of his desire for an "easy life" and to break free from his current constraints. Jian Zi maintained that his desire for a stable life was not a mistake.
He attempted to use his phone to locate Tang Yin, only to discover that Zhan Shili had installed a signal shielding instrument in his room. The butler then informed him that Tang Yin was with Li Yongji, which intensified Jian Zi's alarm. The butler challenged Jian Zi, stating that the only way to leave was to defeat him in a fight.
Jian Zi initially hesitated to resort to violence, but a sudden message from Tang Yin confirming her dangerous situation compelled him to confront his master physically. Meanwhile, Li Yongji went to the pub where Tang Yin was. With Jian Zi absent, he confessed his complicated past, revealing that he was not as morally upright as she believed. He shared his difficult upbringing in the slums, where he witnessed rampant injustice.
He recounted how the Han Qing Group had funded his police academy education, only for him to later realize that their leader, Pei Yancheng, was precisely the kind of criminal he had vowed to fight. He acknowledged his past moral compromises but expressed his renewed commitment to becoming a truly just police officer and asked if she could still trust him.
Tang Yin reassured him, affirming her belief in his good intentions and promising to keep his secrets, not wanting the world to lose a capable and just officer. Moved by her trust, Li Yongji then urged her to leave the island and return to the mainland, revealing he had already booked a ticket. Tang Yin refused, citing her determination to find Keke's killer and to stay by Jian Zi's side.
Li Yongji warned her of Zhan Shili's dangerous nature and, seeing no other option, handcuffed her and drove her away. However, Tang Yin feigned severe stomach pain, reminding Li Yongji of her previous gastroenteritis. Concerned, Li Yongji unlocked her handcuffs and allowed her to go to a nearby restroom, giving her the chance to escape. After escaping from Li Yongji's car, Tang Yin fled down the road.
A car pulled up, and Jin Lin's female subordinate, Miss Huang, offered to take her to safety, claiming Jin Lin had sent her. Tang Yin hesitated, then heard Li Yongji shouting for her to run, confirming her suspicion of danger. Tang Yin continued running and found refuge in a dilapidated house, locking the door behind her. Miss Huang insisted that Jin Lin had sent her, arguing that Jin Lin wouldn't harm Tang Yin, especially since Tang Yin had saved Xiuer.
Tang Yin briefly considered opening the door, but then remembered Jian Zi's earlier warning to be wary of both Li Yongji and Jin Lin. Feeling anxious and trapped, she repeatedly tried to call Jian Zi, but he was unable to answer. As Li Yongji arrived outside the dilapidated house, he immediately engaged in a fierce struggle with Miss Huang, Jin Lin's subordinate. Tang Yin, observing the escalating fight, realized they were after the encoder.
Determined not to let it fall into their hands, she quickly removed the device from her bracelet and swallowed it. Meanwhile, Jian Zi continued his intense fight with the butler, who acknowledged Jian Zi's impressive fighting skills even as he tried to prevent him from leaving.
Episode 19 Recap
Tang Yin struggled, attempting to vomit the encoder she had swallowed. At that moment, Sister Bing arrived with her subordinates, claiming she had sent someone to invite Tang Yin to dinner and insisted she join her. Li Yongji drew his gun, trying to protect Tang Yin, but Sister Bing, now aware of his new position as Director, threatened his career, reminding him that being removed from office was far more humiliating than a suspension.
She pressed Tang Yin to come to dinner. Tang Yin initially tried to politely refuse, but Sister Bing’s veiled threats made it clear she would not be denied. Li Yongji again attempted to intervene, but Sister Bing mocked him, asking if high-ranking police officials now dictated who could eat. Defeated, Tang Yin agreed to go, but not before subtly reminding Li Yongji to “stick to his nature” and expressing her continued trust in him.
Li Yongji assured her that he would not let anyone harm her. Sister Bing then told Li Yongji that if he remained calm, she would return Tang Yin unharmed once she had retrieved the "things." She added that he had no choice but to trust her, as she would need his help in the future and wouldn't deceive him. In the car, Sister Bing continued her pretense of merely wanting to talk over dinner.
Tang Yin, however, saw through the facade, stating she had faced many dangers and urged Sister Bing to be direct. Sister Bing feigned hurt, then dropped the pretense, admitting Tang Yin knew her true intentions. Tang Yin offered to negotiate, frustrating Sister Bing, who then ironically apologized for her actions. Tang Yin then calmly revealed her secret: she had swallowed the encoder. Shocked, Sister Bing’s demeanor instantly changed, turning hostile.
She declared that Tang Yin would need to "pray" she could retrieve it. Sister Bing’s men then took Tang Yin to the chip boat. Li Yongji, aware of Sister Bing’s actions, informed his subordinate about the chip boat, describing it as a mobile counterfeit chip factory used to exchange fake chips for large sums of cash from Qiu Men. He also notified Zhan Shili, expecting him to prepare to reap the benefits of the impending conflict.
Li Yongji noted that Zhan Shili was mobilizing his forces, predicting a fierce confrontation. Li Yongji warned his team that both parties were heavily armed and advised against direct engagement unless absolutely necessary. After instructing his team to prepare for action, Li Yongji learned that Qiu Men was on the move. His subordinate questioned his indirect "Huairou combat" approach, especially with Tang Yin involved, but Li Yongji dismissed the concern, maintaining his strategy.
Meanwhile, Jian Zi, confined in his room, asked his Master if he had ever experienced love and questioned why love and familial duty had to be opposing forces. He reflected on whether defying his Master and Zhan Shili for Tang Yin was truly worth it, acknowledging the numerous obstacles they faced but declaring himself unafraid and without regret. Seeing Jian Zi's unwavering determination, his Master, Mr. Hao, allowed him to leave, promising to smooth things over with Zhan Shili.
Jian Zi, grateful, quickly departed to rescue Tang Yin. On the chip boat, Sister Bing ordered her subordinates to use a scanning device to locate the encoder in Tang Yin's abdomen. Tang Yin resisted the examination, then tried to stall by claiming she had eaten too much breakfast and that the device was faulty, even attempting to "exercise" to aid digestion. The scans yielded no results, leading Sister Bing’s subordinate to suggest surgical removal.
Tang Yin sarcastically retorted, questioning such a "scientific" method and insisting they re-examine. Growing impatient, Sister Bing realized Tang Yin was deliberately prolonging the process, slapped her hard, and threatened to resort to a "ruthless" method, implying an incision. As Sister Bing's men prepared, Tang Yin, in a desperate move, screamed that they shouldn't harm "the baby in her belly," asserting it was her "promise" with Jian Zi. This revelation visibly shook Sister Bing, who, as a mother herself, hesitated.
Tang Yin pressed on, appealing to Sister Bing's maternal instincts by speaking of the joy of raising an innocent child. Sister Bing was clearly conflicted by Tang Yin's words. Despite this, Sister Bing instructed her subordinate to find a private hospital and a method to extract the encoder without harming the alleged child, as the chip operation could not be delayed.
At the wharf, Zhan Shili, awaiting the opportune moment to strike, told his subordinate to wait until Sister Bing produced the counterfeit chips, believing his enemies would be most vulnerable in their moment of perceived triumph. He warned that Li Yongji was a formidable opponent. Zhan Shili's master, Mr. Hao, then approached, apologizing for failing to keep Jian Zi confined. Zhan Shili angrily dismissed his master and, frustrated by Jian Zi's defiance, referred to him as an "unfilial son."
Just then, Jian Zi arrived on the chip boat. He apologized to Tang Yin for his delay, but she reassured him, glad he was there. Embracing her, Jian Zi vowed that no one would harm her. Sister Bing acknowledged Jian Zi's presence. Jian Zi demanded to know her terms. Sister Bing offered to let them go if they handed over the encoder, but Jian Zi retorted that they would leave regardless, daring her to stop them. A fierce battle erupted.
Jian Zi valiantly fought off Sister Bing’s men, pushing Tang Yin out of the immediate danger and urging her to escape, but she insisted on staying with him. Back at the wharf, Zhan Shili’s subordinate informed him that Jian Zi had not emerged. Zhan Shili immediately called Li Yongji, demanding he initiate police action.
Li Yongji, however, refused to deploy his forces prematurely, citing the need for "conclusive evidence" and refusing to risk his officers' lives in a chaotic gang confrontation. Zhan Shili, furious and worried for his son, threatened Li Yongji, but Li Yongji remained unyielding. Enraged, Zhan Shili ordered his own men to storm the boat, instructing them to kill anyone who resisted. Moments later, gunshots confirmed the battle had escalated.
Li Yongji, realizing the "mad dogs" were indeed fighting to the death, ordered his police team to move in. Tang Yin, who had managed to escape the boat and found Li Yongji, desperately pleaded with him to save Jian Zi, explaining that Jian Zi had been captured by Sister Bing's men while saving her. Li Yongji, still refusing, stated that Jian Zi was not "innocent" and he would not risk his officers' lives for him.
Disappointed and frustrated, Tang Yin declared that if he wouldn't go, she would, and rushed back into the ship. Concerned for her safety, Li Yongji immediately rescinded his previous orders and commanded his team to "Act now." Inside the chip boat, the battle raged. Jian Zi, with his agile fighting skills, was now joined by Zhan Shili and his men, who had entered the fray. The combined forces fought against Sister Bing's crew.
Suddenly, Li Yongji's police team stormed the boat. In the chaos, Tang Yin appeared. Jian Zi immediately pulled her into an embrace. Seeing them, Zhan Shili, pretending to be annoyed, declared he couldn't stand the sight of them and told them to leave. Li Yongji, after a brief exchange with Zhan Shili, agreed and ordered his officers to let Jian Zi and Tang Yin pass.
Sister Bing finally understood she had been betrayed by Li Yongji and fallen into his trap. Zhan Shili publicly accused her of manufacturing fake chips, infringing on his gambling interests, and killing Qiu Men employees, presenting "solid evidence" Li Yongji would accept. Sister Bing mocked Li Yongji's adherence to "law enforcement," but he calmly stated he only believed what he saw. Sister Bing acknowledged her defeat but expressed surprise at being outmaneuvered by Li Yongji.
Li Yongji, in turn, revealed his long-held grudge against Pei Yuancheng (Sister Bing's husband), questioning whether someone who had forced him into a life of darkness and ruined his early years could truly be called a benefactor. In a desperate act, Sister Bing's bodyguard, Jiang Minzhu, fired at a gas pipe, causing an explosion to cover Sister Bing’s escape, but Jiang Minzhu was fatally wounded in a hail of gunfire.
Li Yongji pursued Sister Bing as she fled on a yacht. She looked back to see her daughter, held by Zhan Shili, crying for her. Overwhelmed with maternal grief, Sister Bing cried out "No!" before raising her gun and shooting herself in the head, ending her ambitious life. Li Yongji looked at her lifeless body and quietly said, "In the next life, be a good person."
Later, Tang Yin, with an injured Jian Zi leaning on her, walked on the pier. She reflected on how far Sister Bing had gone in her pursuit of power and profit. Suddenly, Tang Yin remembered the encoder, exclaiming, "Oh no, the encoder!" Jian Zi asked what was wrong, and Tang Yin sheepishly admitted she had "eaten it." Jian Zi was surprised and bewildered as Tang Yin wondered aloud if the device could be digested and still function.
Li Yongji proceeded to destroy the fake chips by shooting them. Zhan Shili congratulated him on resolving his past burdens. Li Yongji reciprocated the sentiment, acknowledging Zhan Shili's role in clearing his obstacles. Zhan Shili then informed Li Yongji that all his personal historical files were located in Sister Bing's study and assured him he would be the first and last person to see them.
Li Yongji then went to Sister Bing's house, found those files, and burned them, completely resolving his past burdens. Afterwards, Li Yongji confirmed that all police units had withdrawn and ordered his subordinate to clean up the crime scene.
Episode 20 Recap
In a small pub, Tang Yin bandaged Jian Zi's wound, chiding him for always acting tough, though she insisted she only worried he would implicate her. Noticing Tang Yin's incessant eating, Jian Zi realized she was trying to vomit the encoder. Concerned for her health, he offered to take her to the hospital, but Tang Yin, fearing surgery, refused. Jian Zi then suggested they consult Song Mingzhu, which immediately sparked jealousy in Tang Yin.
Amused by her reaction, Jian Zi leaned in to kiss her, but the kiss unexpectedly triggered Tang Yin's nausea. Mai Quancheng, having learned of Jian Zi's injury, intended to visit him. He received a call from Cai Jiayi but hesitated to answer. Unexpectedly, Cai Jiayi tracked him down, demanding to know why he hadn't picked up. Mai Quancheng lied, claiming his phone was broken.
Cai Jiayi then forcefully pulled him into her car, stating they would go see Jian Zi and Tang Yin together. Mai Quancheng, recognizing her affection, felt he wasn't worthy of such a kind woman and fled the scene. Due to his deteriorating health, Zhan Shili summoned Song Mingzhu for a consultation. Impressed by her wisdom and maturity, he promised her that Jian Zi would give her a satisfactory explanation.
After Song Mingzhu departed, Zhan Shili’s butler reported on Jian Zi’s recent whereabouts, expressing confidence that Jian Zi would return, especially since he shared Zhan Shili's bloodline. Song Mingzhu, who had not gone far, overheard this, realizing with surprise that Jian Zi, his youngest adopted son, was actually Zhan Shili's biological child. Later, Mai Quancheng arrived at the pub looking for Jian Zi but found Cai Jiayi already there.
He attempted to slip away but was promptly caught by Cai Jiayi, leading to another round of their playful arguments. Song Mingzhu, accompanied by two nurses, began examining Tang Yin. When Song Mingzhu suggested a gastroscopy, Tang Yin initially refused. Jian Zi entered, gently comforting Tang Yin and encouraging her, which finally convinced her to reluctantly agree to the procedure, playfully feigning bravery.
While Tang Yin underwent her examination, Song Mingzhu informed Jian Zi that Zhan Shili’s condition had worsened and he was actively seeking blood samples. Jian Zi immediately offered his own blood, which Song Mingzhu took, advising him to avoid upsetting Zhan Shili further due to his delicate heart condition. Under anesthesia, Tang Yin drifted into a dream where she fiercely competed with Song Mingzhu for Jian Zi's affection. She awoke with a shout just as the encoder was successfully retrieved.
Song Mingzhu implored Jian Zi not to jeopardize his relationship with Zhan Shili for an "outsider." Jian Zi, however, declared his intention to leave after tonight and requested Song Mingzhu to look after his father, stating he would no longer compromise and would consider anyone obstructing his path an enemy. Understanding the depth of his feelings for Tang Yin, Song Mingzhu held back tears and departed.
Tang Yin, examining the retrieved encoder, believed it was surely damaged and wanted to accompany Jian Zi to explain to Zhan Shili. Upon learning of Zhan Shili's worsening health, she became even more determined to visit him. Jian Zi advised against it, explaining that his father was too emotional at the moment and should not be disturbed. He promised to formally speak with his father tomorrow and assured Tang Yin that she would not have to leave alone.
In Cai Jiayi's car, Mai Quancheng, restless, deliberately called his disreputable friends to provoke her. Losing patience, Cai Jiayi declared that he was officially recruited as an informant by the anti-pornography group, hoping to guide him toward a better path under her supervision. Mai Quancheng initially resisted, but Cai Jiayi invoked the threat of informing his mother, which promptly compelled him to comply. Jian Zi visited Zhan Shili, wiping his hands with a warm towel.
He suggested that with Qiu men’s crisis resolved, Zhan Shili could now enjoy his retirement. Zhan Shili, however, cautioned against being misled by appearances, emphasizing the importance of staying vigilant and proactive in the face of lurking enemies. Jian Zi then bid farewell to his father, stating that the encoder had been destroyed and it was time for him to leave.
He offered that if Zhan Shili ever grew weary and wished to return home, he and Tang Yin would care for him in his old age. Zhan Shili watched Jian Zi depart, musing that his son had not yet fully matured and would not be allowed to leave so easily.
Episode 21 Recap
Tang Yin and Jian Zi were packing their bags in the small tavern, preparing to leave South Island. Jian Zi gazed at the place he had grown up in, thinking of his mother who had been gone for so long. He wished to bid her farewell one last time before leaving. He took Tang Yin to his mother's grave by the sea, calling out to her that he was finally free.
Tang Yin was astonished to see the photo on the tombstone; it was clearly her own mother. Shocked, she questioned if she and Jian Zi were biological siblings. Jian Zi clarified that he was adopted and they were not blood-related, much to Tang Yin's relief. However, Tang Yin decided she couldn't leave.
Having lived in a world without her mother since childhood, she felt a strong need to uncover the truth now that she had finally found a clue about her. She recounted how people had mocked her, claiming her mother ran away with another man for wealth, but she always believed her mother was not that kind of person.
Jian Zi offered to accompany her, but Tang Yin declined, wanting to avoid embarrassing him or herself, and told him to wait for her at the tavern. Meanwhile, Li Yongji had not given up on his mission against Qiu Men. A superior in the police department noted that while some criminal cases were closed, other matters were "just beginning," a clear reference to Qiu Men.
Earlier, Zhan Shili, through Mr. Hao, had suggested to Li Yongji that he make Tang Yin leave Jian Zi, or Zhan Shili would use his own methods. Li Yongji had reluctantly agreed to try his best. Li Yongji then instructed Cai Jiayi to retrieve confidential files—Level 5 and above—from the database, which were typically only accessible to former directors.
He was determined to find evidence against Qiu Men, and through these documents, he unexpectedly discovered that Tang Yin's mother had been illegally held captive by Zhan Shili. Upon learning that Tang Yin had gone alone to Zhanfu to confront Zhan Shili, Li Yongji rushed to the tavern to warn her. Realizing she might be in danger, he and Jian Zi split up to search for her.
Tang Yin arrived at Zhanfu and directly confronted Zhan Shili with her mother's photo, demanding to know their relationship. Zhan Shili identified the woman as "Xiaoyun" and his wife, and was surprised by Tang Yin's knowledge of her mother's marital status. Tang Yin then revealed her identity as Xiaoyun's daughter.
Upon this revelation, Zhan Shili realized Tang Yin resembled Xiaoyun, and it then became clear to him why he couldn't stand Tang Yin and Jian Zi being together, because Jian Zi was his biological son. As Tang Yin pressed for answers, Zhan Shili recounted that Xiaoyun was his wife before she married Tang Yin's father, claiming her father "stole his love," and described a happy time on South Island until Xiaoyun's death.
He then explicitly revealed that Jian Zi was his biological son. Tang Yin, enraged, lashed out at him, calling him a liar and hypocrite for breaking up families. Overwhelmed and unable to process the revelations, Tang Yin wandered aimlessly on the street, distraught. Jian Zi found her, but rather than disturbing her, he silently followed behind, observing her pain.
Cai Jiayi, frustrated by a professional setback that made her the "laughing stock" of her anti-pornography team, was drinking alone by the roadside when Mai Quancheng happened to pass by. She grabbed his collar, angrily accusing him of liking her but being too self-conscious to admit it, instead using "inferior methods" to make her hate him. Mai Quancheng remained silent. As Cai Jiayi was intoxicated, Mai Quancheng ended up carrying her home.
Along the way, they engaged in their usual playful banter. This time, Mai Quancheng didn't hold back and directly asked her if she would be his girlfriend. She playfully refused, but when he suggested he become her boyfriend instead, she turned away shyly, her heart secretly delighted. The two finally made their relationship official. Back at the tavern, Tang Yin wept as she recalled her childhood trauma of losing her mother and the cruel words of others.
She couldn't forgive Zhan Shili. Seeing Tang Yin's anguish from outside, Jian Zi sought out Zhan Shili and knelt, pleading with him to let Tang Yin go. Zhan Shili was furious, calling Jian Zi a disappointment for kneeling for a woman and for daring to threaten him. He declared that if Jian Zi insisted on leaving, he must face the consequences of betraying Qiu Men: a severe beating, but not to death, after which he would regain his freedom.
The beating commenced. After a prolonged assault, Zhan Shili asked Jian Zi if he regretted his decision, but Jian Zi remained unyielding. Enraged, Zhan Shili pulled out a handgun and pointed it at Jian Zi's head. The butler tried to intervene and reveal the truth, but Zhan Shili silenced him. Just as the tension peaked, someone shouted "Stop!" The next morning, Song Mingzhu visited Tang Yin at the tavern, ordering her to leave Jian Zi.
Mingzhu argued that Tang Yin and Jian Zi were incompatible due to their vastly different statuses and that their relationship would only harm Jian Zi. She claimed that if Jian Zi married her, he would quickly and stably take over Qiu Men, gaining immeasurable wealth and power, something Tang Yin couldn't offer. Tang Yin dismissed her perspective on love as "vulgar."
Song Mingzhu retorted by asking what Tang Yin had contributed to Jian Zi besides trouble, asserting that Jian Zi would certainly inherit Qiu Men because he was Zhan Shili's biological son. To prove her point, Mingzhu presented Tang Yin with a paternity test report she had obtained after overhearing Zhan Shili and Mr. Hao's conversation. The report showed a 99% probability that Jian Zi was Zhan Shili's son.
Mingzhu then questioned if Jian Zi would still want to run away with Tang Yin after discovering his true parentage, especially after Tang Yin's past actions had damaged his relationship with his father. Tang Yin, however, rejected Mingzhu's claims, stating she would not believe any of this.
Episode 22 Recap
Jian Zi knelt before Zhan Shili, enduring a severe beating as Zhan Shili pointed a gun at his head. Tang Yin rushed in, crying out for Zhan Shili to stop. She was heartbroken to see Jian Zi injured and wanted to take him away, but Zhan Shili refused to let them go.
Tang Yin accused Zhan Shili of trying to drive Jian Zi to his death, knowing that even if Jian Zi fulfilled all of Qiu Men's demands, Zhan Shili would never grant him freedom. At that moment, Mingzhu arrived and presented Jian Zi with an appraisal report. Reading it, Jian Zi learned that he was not an adopted son after all. He trembled as he asked if it was true.
Zhan Shili confirmed that Jian Zi was his biological son but revealed that Jian Zi's birth mother was not Qiu Yun, Tang Yin’s mother. This meant Jian Zi and Tang Yin were not blood relatives. Tang Yin understood that with such a biological father, Jian Zi's life would be forever shadowed, spent in darkness and distortion. This solidified her resolve to take him away, no matter the cost.
She challenged Zhan Shili, arguing that his claims of doing everything for Jian Zi's good were merely for his own satisfaction, as his actions only caused Jian Zi pain. Zhan Shili, in turn, angrily warned Tang Yin against meddling, suggesting she didn't understand his difficulties. He also brought up Tang Yin's deceased mother, Qiu Yun, stating that if Tang Yin persisted, he would "educate" her on her mother's behalf, considering their past relationship.
Enraged, Tang Yin forbade him from speaking about her mother. Zhan Shili then recounted his past with Tang Yin's parents, accusing her father of being a manipulative "beast" who forced Qiu Yun into marriage. He further claimed that he himself had threatened Tang Yin's father's life to bring Qiu Yun to him. Tang Yin called him a bastard and swore he would face retribution. She declared that she would not leave Jian Zi and would expose Zhan Shili's crimes.
Zhan Shili gave them three days: Jian Zi was to return to work, and Tang Yin could leave with enough money for a lifetime, but if she insisted on being with Jian Zi, they would face severe consequences. That night, back at the small tavern, Tang Yin tended to Jian Zi's wounds. Jian Zi, burdened by the new revelations, was distraught and preoccupied.
Later, he went to Tang Yin's room, embraced her from behind, and quietly told her they would leave tomorrow. Tang Yin affirmed his resolve, "Leave tomorrow." Meanwhile, Li Yongji had already begun secretly investigating Qiu Men. Using the authentic encoder he had swapped earlier, he started manufacturing a large number of counterfeit chips, intending to frame Qiu Men. He had been looking into Tang Yin's mother's case and received a farewell phone call from Tang Yin.
He promised her he would seek justice for her and her mother. However, Tang Yin seemed to have moved past it, expressing her desire to simply leave with Jian Zi and never return. Li Yongji, unwilling to let Qiu Men or Jian Zi escape justice, then resolved that no one could avoid their deserved punishment.
After the call, Mingzhu tried to dissuade Zhan Shili from interfering with Jian Zi and Tang Yin, even offering to give up her love for Jian Zi if he would let them go. Zhan Shili rejected her plea, ordered her confined, and prepared his men for an emergency operation. The next morning, with Mai Quancheng's help, Jian Zi and Tang Yin went to the seaside to bid farewell to Tang Yin’s mother at her grave.
Tang Yin tearfully apologized to her mother for misunderstanding her. As they prepared to leave on a waiting boat, Zhan Shili arrived with his men, cornering them. Despite Jian Zi's agility, they were outnumbered, and the three were quickly restrained. Zhan Shili began to explain his grand plan for Qiu Men, detailing its transformation from a criminal organization into a legitimate business empire, a world-leading resort.
He intended for Jian Zi to inherit it, claiming it was the path to true freedom. However, Jian Zi was uninterested, stating he only desired real freedom, not Zhan Shili's version of power. Zhan Shili grew angry, slapping Jian Zi and chastising him for being too emotional to succeed. He declared that Jian Zi's emotional attachments were his greatest obstacle and demanded he choose between Mai Quancheng and Tang Yin—only one could live.
Jian Zi pleaded for their lives, offering himself in their place, but Zhan Shili mocked his choice. In a horrifying display, Zhan Shili had Mai Quancheng thrown into the sea. He then declared that since Jian Zi had not made a choice, Tang Yin must also die. Jian Zi watched in agony as Tang Yin was thrown into the sea. Witnessing the disappearance of the two people closest to him, Jian Zi vomited blood and collapsed unconscious.
Zhan Shili's ruthless plan had been completed. Li Yongji was too late to intervene. He confronted Zhan Shili, demanding to know Tang Yin's whereabouts and warning him of severe repercussions if she was harmed. Zhan Shili, unperturbed, dismissed Li Yongji's threats as futile, like "a mantis trying to stop a chariot." Li Yongji retorted that the outcome was still uncertain, vowing to see Qiu Men's downfall and Zhan Shili imprisoned.
Later, Li Yongji dispatched search teams to scour the sea for Tang Yin, but they found no trace. Simultaneously, his informant within Qiu Men relayed a message from Zhan Shili, warning Li Yongji not to assume he was innocent just because evidence might be destroyed, asserting that Qiu Men could crush him effortlessly.
Episode 23 Recap
After losing those he held dear, Jian Zi fell into a deep depression, spending days drinking in his car. His subordinate worried to Zhan Shili that Jian Zi hadn't eaten anything for days, only smoking and drinking, and was given nutrient solution in the "Tiger Ward," fearing his body would collapse.
Zhan Shili, however, seemed unconcerned when he heard Jian Zi was missing, stating that Jian Zi had "broken through Longtan tiger crab" and a "small hospital can't shut him down," believing he would "naturally appear when it is time to appear." Soon after, Jian Zi cleaned himself up and found his Facebook mask in a box, a mask that held great significance for him. As he put it on, he recalled Tang Yin's question, "Are you a good person?"
Jian Zi, now in his Facebook persona, launched a series of attacks on Qiu Men's casinos. Li Yongji received a report about these attacks and ordered for all procedures to be followed normally, viewing this as an opportunity to strike a blow against Qiu Men. The news reported that the attacked locations were primarily warehouses where casino chips were stored, with the police not ruling out revenge from an organization against the South Island Casino interest group.
Li Yongji, watching the news, remarked to himself, "Zhan Shili, it seems that someone is more restless than me. Such a good opportunity, I will definitely not let it go." He then received a phone call from an informant, who reported that Qiu Men's people had arrived at the chip warehouse, prompting Li Yongji to exclaim, "Ah, it's him," and rush to the location alone. At the warehouse, Facebook confronted Li Yongji, greeting him, "Long time no see."
Li Yongji, surprised that Facebook was alive, asked about "him," but Facebook feigned ignorance. When Li Yongji asked if he was there to surrender, Facebook instead produced an item belonging to Tang Yin. Li Yongji questioned why it was in Facebook’s possession and if he knew Tang Yin's whereabouts, but Facebook claimed ignorance.
Facebook then exposed Li Yongji's secret, stating that "this encoder is fake" and remarking that Li Yongji’s "swapping trick is very good," implying Li Yongji had a history of manipulating such items. Facebook further revealed that the "address" for Genie's hoarded chip-making materials was placed in Li Yongji's home by Facebook, and the Qiu Men operatives who came to seize them were dispatched by Facebook himself.
Facebook sarcastically told Li Yongji not to "think naively, God helps you with all this." Li Yongji then directly asked Facebook's intentions, to which Facebook declared his aim was to "overthrow Qiu Men" and invited Li Yongji to join him. Li Yongji, suspicious of betrayal, questioned Facebook's loyalty to Qiu Men.
Facebook explained that his relationship with Qiu Men was purely transactional, and since "they can't give me what I want, and I know too much," he questioned what would happen next. Li Yongji demanded to know why he should trust him, and Facebook responded, "You know me better than yourself." Facebook declared he was "starting to act" and warned Li Yongji not to "let me down."
Meanwhile, Zhan Shili was fully aware of Li Yongji's secret chip manufacturing and Jian Zi's actions. His subordinate reported Li Yongji's progress with manufacturing chips using new materials. Zhan Shili dismissed concerns about Jian Zi for now, saying Li Yongji was "already very proud, he thought God was helping him." He ordered his subordinates to "grab all his things back" so Li Yongji could "experience the feeling of Genie at that time."
Zhan Shili also learned about the chip recall order and the repurchase at original price, noting it was "quite like the handwriting of my Zhan Shili." When a subordinate expressed concern about the increasing number of chips and suggested pausing the recall, Zhan Shili insisted, "Those who come will not refuse," even if it became "worse and worse" to manage.
He elaborated on Jian Zi's strategy, involving recalling chips and reaching an agreement with the police to attack Qiu Men's capital chain. Zhan Shili saw this as Jian Zi "closely linked" in his plan, expressing satisfaction, "If they don't die, will he make such progress?" implying Tang Yin and Mai Quancheng's deaths were a catalyst. He added, "Unfortunately, it is still not tough enough.
I'd better add more oil," and ordered his people to stir up trouble among small groups to make the chaos "more interesting." He appreciated Jian Zi's ruthlessness in dealing with Qiu Men's old structure, recognizing that 70% of Qiu Men's chips had been destroyed and no new ones could be produced without the encoder, forcing a recall. He suggested Li Yongji could profit from this, effectively making him a "fisherman."
When Li Yongji, on a phone call with Facebook, wondered who was behind the recent chaos, Facebook clarified that Zhan Shili "always likes to win by chaos" and his purpose was "diverting attention, put pressure on the police." Facebook advised Li Yongji not to "guess if you can't guess. Otherwise, you will be led away by him."
Facebook then presented Li Yongji with a list of clubs suppressed by Qiu Men, urging him to leverage his contacts to create internal and external pressure, thereby "completely drag them down." Li Yongji noted Jian Zi had "changed a lot," to which Jian Zi replied, "Thanks to you." Jian Zi, still in his Facebook persona, confronted Zhan Shili. Zhan Shili told his subordinate that Jian Zi's "talent is good."
Zhan Shili then told Jian Zi, "You finally come to see me," praising him for shedding "unnecessary emotional fetters" and adopting a "by no means" approach to achieve his goals, which he believed was "what a strong man should do." He declared, "You did well. Qiu Men to you, I am at ease." Zhan Shili further asserted that Jian Zi's actions were merely his way of "resistance and revenge" against the destiny Zhan Shili had set for him.
He claimed that the world was "intertwined with black and white, just like the alternation of sun and moon," and that Jian Zi already understood these principles but refused to accept them. Dismissing Jian Zi's hatred as something that "doesn't hurt," he instructed Jian Zi to "shoot." However, Jian Zi hesitated, his hand trembling. To provoke him, Zhan Shili reminded Jian Zi of his "dead brothers," claiming they "all died for you."
He continued, "Think about Tang Yin and your good friends. Also die for you. What else do you have to worry about?" He then delivered a final, cruel blow, stating, "I have never regarded you as my own son. . . I just regard you as my tool to continue my glory." Enraged, Jian Zi pointed the gun at himself and pulled the trigger, but it was empty.
Zhan Shili then lamented that if Jian Zi had "half the decisiveness," their relationship would not have reached "this point today." Outside, Li Yongji arrived with a large police force, shouting, "Zhan Shili, your good life is over! Come out and face everything!" Zhan Shili responded defiantly, threatening to "lose both sides" in a fight with the police. He then invited Li Yongji to come in alone for a "negotiation," promising "no casualties."
Li Yongji entered and was immediately ambushed and restrained. Zhan Shili thanked Li Yongji for his "help" in "clearing all the black market forces," announcing that Qiu Men was now "completely whitewashed" and "has nothing to do with the dark world anymore." Li Yongji realized he had been played, confirming Zhan Shili had set a trap.
Zhan Shili then exposed Li Yongji's past, revealing him to be an "undercover at the top of the police" who had "worked with Genie" and "with me," a high-ranking officer "who was already black and could not be black any more." He mockingly told Jian Zi to "study hard" from Li Yongji. Zhan Shili then declared he had transferred Qiu Men's management rights, telling Jian Zi to play with his "heir" from now on.
He concluded, "If you want Qiu Men to be good or not, I have already done what I should do." Zhan Shili then told Li Yongji, "I said, I will give you an explanation." Following Zhan Shili's signal, his butler struck Li Yongji, knocking him unconscious, then shot Zhan Shili himself. Jian Zi was shocked, calling out, "Master!" as the butler declared, "The old man said, at this time, he is dead, also want to die in their own hands.
Others can't take his life away." The butler explained that Zhan Shili did not want to "leave with your hatred for him." After handing the Qiu Men transfer papers to Jian Zi, the butler said, "Buddy, I'll find you," implying he would join Zhan Shili in death, and then committed suicide. Jian Zi, holding the transfer papers, was overcome with pain as both his father and master died before him.
Qiu Men officially announced that Zhan Shili had died of a sudden illness. Jian Zi met with Li Yongji, who accused him of framing him, pointing out that his own gun couldn't have killed anyone. Jian Zi retorted that Zhan Shili had many ways to deal with him and wouldn't have needed to frame Qiu Men, reiterating the official story.
Jian Zi then proposed a final deal: if Li Yongji would "let Qiu Men go," Jian Zi would "destroy all records" of Li Yongji's past dealings with Han Qing and "one person carried all the charges." Li Yongji scornfully dismissed the offer, stating he no longer cared for such evidence, desiring only for Qiu Men to "never come back."
He asserted that Jian Zi alone was not enough to destroy Qiu Men and that Jian Zi would not have a chance. Jian Zi became the new chairman of Qiu Men, presenting a mature, steady, and decisive demeanor. He convened a meeting, where he first noted that he didn't need an introduction, then announced his father's death to the assembled subordinates.
He then declared that the company's assets would be evaluated and sold, with the proceeds distributed to every employee as "compensation from the former chairman." Jian Zi also acknowledged Qiu Men's past crimes, vowing to "bear all these by myself" and "try to give everyone a good end." He warned those with "ambition" against "any foul play" during the evaluation process, urging them to "think about it first. Can you bear the consequences?" before acting. He then dismissed the meeting.
Li Yongji, despite Jian Zi's firm stance, continued to provoke Qiu Men, ordering his subordinates to cause trouble. His men complained that Qiu Men remained unresponsive, "just like a little turtle." Li Yongji assured them that Qiu Men would eventually lose patience and that they would act if no one else did. A police report to Li Yongji confirmed that searches of casinos yielded no evidence.
News reports highlighted the increase in gang violence on South Island, negatively impacting tourism and drawing criticism from the national police headquarters, which prohibited the use of "violence for violence" tactics. Despite this, Li Yongji remained determined to push Qiu Men to react. Qiu Men's subordinates grew agitated, urging Jian Zi to retaliate. However, a manager, Mr. Meng, took matters into his own hands to avenge his brothers, leading a group to smash a venue.
Dozens were arrested, and despite lawyers' efforts, the police refused to release them, demanding Jian Zi present himself. Jian Zi, aware of Li Yongji's tactics, decided to handle the matter himself. He warned his subordinates not to "act rashly" if he was taken away, advising them to "endure for a while, can change for a lifetime of stability." Jian Zi then went to the police station for interrogation.
Li Yongji remarked that Jian Zi's confession was "very detailed," to which Jian Zi replied there was "no need to hide" and sarcastically added, "Otherwise, it would be a waste of your painstaking efforts," implying he was aware of Li Yongji's manipulative game.
Episode 24 (Ending) Recap
Jian Zi, determined to protect Qiu Men, intended to shoulder all the blame himself, but Li Yongji declared he would never let Qiu Men off the hook. After Jian Zi was taken into police custody, prominent figures from across South Island, both allies and enemies of Qiu Men, appeared. Li Yongji offered to arrange Jian Zi's deportation if he would document all of Qiu Men's crimes.
However, Jian Zi adamantly stated that while Qiu Men members might contend and fight, none would betray the organization at such a crucial moment. He informed his loyalists not to attempt to rescue him, explaining that if he could bear all the charges, no other brothers would need to suffer. He urged them to disband and start new lives.
Some members protested, reminding him that Qiu Men was the old chairman's legacy and that each person should be responsible for their own actions. Jian Zi, however, insisted they follow his command, warning that any disobedience would be considered abandoning Qiu Men. Meanwhile, Qiu Men's associates desperately sought help, but with the organization in decline and the old chairman deceased, no one was willing to assist them.
One of Jian Zi's men tried to secure support by presenting a powerful senator with an encrypted file containing compromising information on high-ranking officials. The old chairman intended this list as political capital for the senator, ensuring Qiu Men's survival. The senator, after verifying the information, agreed to protect Qiu Men's foundation and inquired about Jian Zi's plan.
Jian Zi knew that Li Yongji's position as director had been revoked, with only a few hours remaining until the new director took office, so he deliberately stalled the interrogation. Li Yongji, aware of Jian Zi's tactic, confirmed that his dismissal documents had been issued, but he still held full legal authority until the official transfer of power. He added that other captured Qiu Men members had already confessed.
Jian Zi retorted that he had instructed his men not to resist arrest, believing they deserved legal punishment for Qiu Men's future, and that his act of taking all the blame would cleanse Qiu Men's "black record." He then provocatively asked about the new director's arrival, to which Li Yongji hinted darkly that the new director "might not make it, as there are too many accidents in this world."
Li Yongji then pointed out that Jian Zi's confession did not include Shen Keke's case. Jian Zi refused to admit to it, asserting that the incident had nothing to do with him or Qiu Men, and accused Li Yongji of causing Shen Keke's death while drunk driving. Li Yongji denied the accusation and showed Jian Zi a video of Tang Yin, bound and held captive, which left Jian Zi stunned as he had believed her dead.
It was revealed that the old chairman had never intended to kill Tang Yin and Mai Quancheng. After throwing them into the sea, he had them rescued and held captive. Tang Yin understood that his intention was simply to make Jian Zi wholeheartedly commit to serving Qiu Men. One day, Tang Yin and Mai Quancheng attempted to escape but were quickly recaptured by Qiu Men's men.
Tang Yin learned from her captors that Jian Zi, in an effort to save Qiu Men, had sent emails under the "facial makeup" alias to all implicated officials, urging them to protect Qiu Men by abandoning him. Calling him foolish, she sought a way to rescue him. Tang Yin then called Li Yongji, requesting a meeting with Jian Zi, suggesting she might persuade him.
Li Yongji agreed and sent men to pick her up, but in reality, he had her and Mai Quancheng brought to his own house and held them captive there. Watching the video of Tang Yin, Jian Zi, now knowing she was alive, offered to kill the newly appointed director for Li Yongji, declaring that he would "re-don the facial makeup, and kill if necessary" to eliminate any threats to Tang Yin's safety, even if she hated or left him.
Tang Yin discovered she was being held at Li Yongji's home. She realized he intended to use her to coerce Jian Zi into confessing all of Qiu Men's criminal activities. Li Yongji guaranteed that after the plan succeeded, Jian Zi would be deported, allowing them to go wherever they wished. However, Tang Yin declared that she no longer trusted him.
She accused him of repeatedly using her despite his claims of acting for her own good, and asserted that his sense of justice had become twisted and corrupted. She implored him to release them before her despair for him became absolute. Li Yongji responded by saying that Jian Zi was equally important to her as she was to him. Jian Zi countered Li Yongji, stating that his actions would inevitably be discovered and he would face punishment.
Li Yongji then used Tang Yin's safety as leverage, threatening her life if Jian Zi did not write out Qiu Men's crimes. Unbeknownst to Li Yongji, Cai Jiayi had inadvertently uncovered surveillance footage from the night Shen Keke died, revealing Li Yongji's direct involvement. She was devastated, unable to believe that her mentor, who always championed justice, was a murderer. She rushed to Li Yongji's house and found Tang Yin and Mai Quancheng held captive.
Working with Mai Quancheng, she subdued the guards, and the long-separated lovers shared a heartfelt embrace. Upon learning of Tang Yin's rescue, Li Yongji immediately ordered a lockdown of the police station, prohibiting anyone from entering. He then began to physically assault Jian Zi, demanding he complete the confession. At that moment, Cai Jiayi and Tang Yin burst into the interrogation room. Cai Jiayi pointed a gun at Li Yongji, ordering him to surrender.
She revealed that everyone was now aware of his involvement with Hanqing and presented the video evidence of him running over Shen Keke. In a desperate attempt to escape, Li Yongji tried to flee. Cai Jiayi fired, the bullet grazing his arm.
He declared that he had never been clearer, stating that to conquer darkness, one must become even darker, for only then would dawn arrive sooner, much like the Cambrian explosion ten thousand years ago, bringing forth an eruption of life and hope. It was later revealed that Mingzhu had contacted the head of the supreme inspection team, which allowed Cai Jiayi and Tang Yin to gain access to the interrogation room.
Mingzhu expressed that their happiness was the greatest thanks she could receive. Li Yongji was apprehended, acknowledging that every mistake leads to punishment. He and Jian Zi were then separately taken away, each for their respective crimes. As Jian Zi was escorted away, Tang Yin, Mai Quancheng, and the remaining Qiu Men brothers followed the police vehicle. Jian Zi requested a moment to bid farewell to Tang Yin.
Tang Yin assured him that she would wait for him, no matter how long it took. Jian Zi kissed her forehead. Tang Yin, disregarding social norms, initiated a deep kiss, then turned and walked away in tears. Their farewell felt like an eternal moment. As the police siren faded, signaling Jian Zi's departure, the police car suddenly lost control on a bridge, crashing through the barrier and plunging into the sea.
Tang Yin cried out Jian Zi's name by the bridge, but there was no response. Their separation in life had tragically become a final parting in death. In prison, Li Yongji still clung to his belief that his actions were justified. He told himself that sometimes, to eradicate darkness, justice itself must embody darkness.
Under the night sky, the facial makeup figure gazed at the bustling city lights, as this intertwined tale of love and hatred within the underworld drew to a close, perhaps marking the beginning of another story.
