Xin Qiao secretly placed a chemical liquid, given to her by Shi Jizhou and described as explosives, into the Lang Lichun fragrance fixative research lab, specifically on Gu Haitang's experimental platform. Gu Haitang, still upset with Lang Yuexuan, returned to the workshop and began mixing plant essential oils and spices for heating. Suddenly, an explosion occurred, and the workbench instantly caught fire, terrifying her. Fortunately, Lang Yuexuan, who had returned from Haitang Garden, arrived in time to rescue her.
Lang Yueming learned of the workshop fire and rushed to the scene with Long Mohua, who was on a photoshoot. Seeing Lang Yuexuan protecting Gu Haitang as they escaped, Lang Yueming angrily blamed Lang Yuexuan for bringing danger to Gu Haitang, scolding him and recounting a past childhood explosion where he had pushed Lang Yuexuan away, getting burned himself, thus preventing Lang Yuexuan from being injured.
Gu Haitang repeatedly explained that Lang Yuexuan had saved her, but Lang Yueming refused to listen. Lang Yuexuan also argued with Lang Yueming, and the two brothers engaged in a heated dispute until Long Mohua intervened to stop them. Lang Yuexuan took Gu Haitang to a glass house, vowing to keep her close to prevent her from encountering further danger. Gu Haitang noticed Lang Yuexuan's injured arm and promptly helped him apply medicine.
Lang Yuexuan believed the explosion was not accidental and suspected Xin Qiao. Gu Haitang suggested that if he could quickly develop a musk substitute (a new fragrance fixative), they could expose Xin Qiao. Lang Yuexuan then presented his research findings from his time in Haitang Garden, which Gu Haitang greatly praised, also noting his earlier request for her assistance.
Lang Yueming later reported the workshop explosion to Feng Chunyan, his mother, recounting the childhood explosion where he had saved Lang Yuexuan. Feng Chunyan finally understood why Lang Yuexuan's personality had changed after that incident. She asked Lang Yueming if he had ever hated Lang Yuexuan; he admitted he had, but cherished their brotherhood. Lang Yuexuan and Gu Haitang returned to the workshop to find Lang Yueming had tidied the lab, preparing it for their work.
Gu Haitang suggested using "Daphne odora" as a musk substitute, and she and Lang Yuexuan worked together on experiments. After their diligent efforts, they successfully developed the new fragrance fixative. Amidst the general celebration of their success, Gu Haitang and Lang Yueming deliberately discussed the storage of the secret formula in front of Xin Qiao. Their conversation enticed Xin Qiao, who later that night secretly returned to the workshop to steal the formula.
She was caught red-handed by Lang Yuexuan, Lang Yueming, Gu Haitang, and the female workers. Xin Qiao confessed to her crimes, admitting she had anticipated this day. She knelt and tearfully pleaded with Lang Yuexuan, explaining that Shi Jizhou had threatened her father's life, forcing her to infiltrate the Lang family as an undercover agent to cause damage.
Gu Haitang pleaded for Xin Qiao, and although Lang Yueming initially refused to let her go, Lang Yuexuan ultimately decided to spare Xin Qiao, on the condition that she leave Kunyang within three days. Lang Yuexuan proposed to Lang Sinian to rename the "Hongyan Rouge" to "Haitang Rouge," acknowledging that Gu Haitang had developed the formula from start to finish and deserved the credit. Lang Sinian readily agreed, ordering large-scale production, and advised Lang Yuexuan to move back home soon.
Lang Yuexuan publicly announced the mass production of "Haitang Rouge," and Lang Yueming promoted Gu Haitang to team leader to assist Master Shang with workshop duties. One day, Gu Haitang returned home to find her mother had prepared a lavish meal, and Lang Yuexuan arrived with a birthday cake. Only then did Gu Haitang realize it was her birthday, but she defiantly ran out of the house. Lang Yuexuan pursued her, asking for her reason.
Gu Haitang explained that she had stopped celebrating her birthday after her father, Gu Shunqi, had left when she was eight. Her father had promised to return and make her longevity noodles for her birthday but never came back. From that day on, Gu Haitang vowed never to celebrate her birthday until her father returned.
Gu Haitang then took Lang Yuexuan to a temple to show him Gu Shunqi's memorial tablet, admitting that she had joined the Lang family to find her father. Lang Yuexuan promised to help her search. Gu Haitang also revealed to him that Lang Sinian had once visited Yanzhi's memorial tablet. Lang Sinian was appointed President of the Kunyang Chamber of Commerce, to Shi Jizhou's displeasure.
Lang Sinian publicly vowed to integrate the Kunyang rouge industry into a large shareholding group, urging everyone to share in its prosperity and challenges. Afterwards, Lang Sinian invited Shi Jizhou for a drink, but Shi Jizhou refused, citing a bad mood. Lang Sinian then offered a box of gold bars and a large sum of cash, attempting to buy back Feng Chunyan's hairpin from Shi Jizhou, hoping to put an end to their conflicts.
Shi Jizhou, however, demanded an exorbitant sum. Lang Sinian advised him to make peace to avoid mutual destruction, but Shi Jizhou remained defiant. As Lang Sinian left, he warned Shi Jizhou not to provoke Lang Yuexuan. Upon returning home, Lang Yuexuan directly questioned Lang Sinian about Yanzhi. Lang Sinian admitted he had once loved Yanzhi but concealed the cause of her death. When Lang Yuexuan asked about Gu Shunqi, Lang Sinian lied, claiming not to know the man.
Meanwhile, Gu Haitang also inquired about Yanzhi from Master Shang. She learned that Yanzhi had been a maid in the Lang family, and Lang Sinian had loved her, but their differing social statuses prevented them from being together. She left after Feng Chunyan married into the family. Yanzhi later married Shi Jizhou, who discovered her heart belonged to someone else and consequently subjected her to abuse before she mysteriously disappeared. Master Shang advised Gu Haitang not to revisit old matters.
Lang Yuexuan later encountered Feng Chunyan and Miaolan outside. Feng Chunyan sent Miaolan away and had a heartfelt conversation with Lang Yuexuan, expressing her good fortune in having adopted him as her son. Later, Lang Lichun urgently needed raw materials, but the Lang family's goods arrived at the port with no available dock space to unload. Lang Yueming, worried, immediately called the port warehouse for information and then went to the dock to investigate. Shi Jizhou unexpectedly appeared, learned of the situation, stopped Lang Yueming, and offered his own ship's berth, much to Lang Yueming's puzzlement.
