Age of Legends Episode 41 Recap
> Age of Legends Recap
Nie Wanfeng deliberately distorted the truth to Liu Ziguang, painting him as a ruthless, money-driven drug lord and himself as a loyal, lifelong brother. Nie Wanfeng began by expressing how scared he was that Liu Ziguang would one day ask about his past and how he didn't want him to confront those difficult memories.
He claimed they became sworn brothers eight years ago, having gone through life and death together, and stated he remembered everything, even if Liu Ziguang had forgotten. Nie Wanfeng then recounted how they first met on a bus to M Country, with Liu Ziguang being poor but driven by a determination to "strike gold" and smelling "the scent of money."
Despite Nie Wanfeng's warnings, Liu Ziguang insisted on working at a gambling den, where Nie Wanfeng observed him thriving in the illicit atmosphere, like a "fish in a pond." Liu Ziguang even expressed admiration for drug kingpin Escobar, stating he wanted to be like him due to his ruthlessness and capability, even though he was a drug trafficker.
Nie Wanfeng claimed Liu Ziguang later chose to leave the casino to seek out Colby, the top drug lord in M Country, convinced that following him would make them rich. Nie Wanfeng tried to persuade Liu Ziguang against joining Colby's drug cartel, warning him of the illegal nature and tragic end, but Liu Ziguang was resolute, declaring, "If I make big bucks, so what if I'm a drug trafficker?"
Liu Ziguang, ignoring Nie Wanfeng's pleas to return to Jiangbei, declared he was ready and left with Colby's men. Nie Wanfeng then claimed Liu Ziguang became Colby's subordinate, engaging in drug trafficking and murder, before personally killing Colby and taking his place as the leader of a large, armed drug cartel. Nie Wanfeng then told Liu Ziguang about their alleged reunion six months prior in M Country.
He claimed he encountered Liu Ziguang outside a pub, where Liu Ziguang, carrying a gun, charged inside despite Nie Wanfeng's desperate warnings. Nie Wanfeng heard gunshots, and upon entering, found the bar owner lying in a pool of blood with Liu Ziguang still holding the gun. He stated that Liu Ziguang's men then arrived and called him "Sangbo," leading Nie Wanfeng to realize that Liu Ziguang was indeed Sangbo.
Overcome with pain, Liu Ziguang recalled Hu Rong's words that Sangbo was the one who killed her biological father, Huang Zhenwu. Nie Wanfeng feigned sorrow, apologizing and wishing Liu Ziguang had forgotten these memories. Liu Ziguang, believing Nie Wanfeng's story, was distraught and left. As Liu Ziguang departed, Nie Wanfeng smirked, revealing his manipulative intent. Later, Hu Rong urgently searched for Liu Ziguang at Di Di Dao Dao but couldn't find him.
Bei Xiaoshuai informed her that Liu Ziguang had seemed unusual since her visit to the restaurant the previous day and had experienced nightmares again that night, repeatedly shouting, "It wasn't me!" Bei Xiaoshuai speculated that Liu Ziguang was tormented by the memories of his eight lost years. Hu Rong, worried, instructed Bei Xiaoshuai to stay at Di Di Dao Dao and notify her if Liu Ziguang returned, while she continued her search for him.
Meanwhile, Nie Wanfeng, recalling their experiences in M Country, spoke to his subordinate, Tiger Brother, expressing fear that Liu Ziguang's memories were returning. He warned that if Liu Ziguang fully remembered everything from eight years ago, it would be dangerous for him. Nie Wanfeng emphasized the urgent need to make the first move and firmly establish Liu Ziguang's identity as Sangbo before he regained his full memory, ensuring Nie Wanfeng's safety.
He instructed Tiger Brother to have Wanka release the fabricated surveillance video to the police, promising Wanka a handsome reward. At the police station, Han Jin received a call from Officer Chang Tuo of the M Country police. Chang Tuo informed him that they had found surveillance footage from downstairs of Officer Huang Zhenwu's bistro, confirmed to be from the night of Huang Zhenwu's murder.
The video showed three armed militants leaving, whom they believed to be the killers, and they were investigating if these individuals belonged to Sangbo's militant drug trafficking organization. Han Jin immediately contacted Deputy Director Song and Director-General Hu Yuejin to report this critical development. Upon reviewing the footage, Hu Yuejin noted that one of the figures bore a strong resemblance to Liu Ziguang, a sentiment echoed by Han Jin, who highlighted the matching physical traits.
Han Jin then connected this to the incident at Golden Glory, where Tony had shouted "Sangbo" at Liu Ziguang while shooting at him, leading Han Jin to a bold hypothesis: Liu Ziguang might indeed be Sangbo. Distraught, Liu Ziguang returned to Guo Dazhen's place and began to drink heavily. Guo Dazhen, alarmed by his behavior, tried to stop him and asked what was wrong.
Liu Ziguang, in a state of agitation, spoke of his eight lost years and his childhood fear of losing his father, emphasizing his desire to be a good person. Guo Dazhen reassured him that he was indeed a good child. Liu Ziguang then tearfully confessed to Guo Dazhen, whom he considered a father, that he had killed someone—specifically, Hu Rong's biological father, Huang Zhenwu. He claimed he remembered pointing a gun at Huang Zhenwu's head.
Guo Dazhen was shocked, dismissing it as nonsense and fearing Liu Ziguang was mentally unwell. Concerned, Guo Dazhen secretly called Hu Rong for help. At the special investigation team, Hu Yuejin asked Han Jin for his assessment of Liu Ziguang.
Han Jin admitted to having many doubts, finding it difficult to reconcile the image of Sangbo, a notoriously wicked criminal, with the Liu Ziguang he knew—a good person who bravely stood up for justice, saved Hu Rong, and helped dismantle Golden Glory. He speculated that if the accusations were true, something deeply hidden and unrecallable must have happened during Liu Ziguang's eight years of lost memory.
Given the resemblance of the suspect in the video to Liu Ziguang, Han Jin recommended bringing Liu Ziguang in for questioning and investigation, assuring that he would receive justice if innocent, but would face the law if proven guilty. Deputy Director Song agreed with Han Jin but expressed concern about the potential impact on Hu Rong and Liu Ziguang's relationship.
Hu Yuejin acknowledged his own past hopes for Liu Ziguang to be his son-in-law, but firmly stated that justice for Huang Zhenwu and the anti-drug institution must take precedence over personal feelings. He assured them he would handle Hu Rong's reaction and ordered Han Jin to immediately bring Liu Ziguang to the Public Security Bureau for investigation to clarify all doubts. Hu Rong rushed to Guo Dazhen's place.
Guo Dazhen informed her that Liu Ziguang, while drunk, had claimed to have killed her father. Hu Rong's heart sank, and she desperately tried to rouse Liu Ziguang. Just then, Han Jin arrived with police officers to take Liu Ziguang into custody for investigation. Seeing this, Guo Dazhen, overwhelmed with anxiety and anger, suffered a heart attack and collapsed. Hu Rong quickly notified Bei Xiaoshuai and Zhuoli to come and care for Guo Dazhen.
She then hurried to the Public Security Bureau, where Deputy Director Song explained the situation and showed her the surveillance video. Watching the footage of the suspect who resembled Liu Ziguang, Hu Rong struggled to accept it. Song Bureau also reminded her that Tony had shouted "Sangbo" at Liu Ziguang during the Golden Glory incident. Hu Rong broke down, crying in Hu Yuejin's arms, lamenting the cruel twist of fate.
In the interrogation room, police officers woke a still-intoxicated Liu Ziguang. Han Jin personally conducted the interrogation, presenting the surveillance video and asking if he recognized anything. Liu Ziguang vehemently denied any recollection. Han Jin then showed him a photograph of Officer Huang Zhenwu. Liu Ziguang admitted to having only seen Huang Zhenwu's memorial photograph before, but then, surprisingly, confessed without hesitation to killing Huang Zhenwu. Han Jin abruptly stood up, anxiously questioning if Liu Ziguang had regained his eight years of lost memory. Liu Ziguang, in distress, replied that Nie Wanfeng had told him.
