Hou Sihai, triumphant after Liu Ziguang's comatose state and Li Wan's removal from the board, is warned by Sun Wei about Meng Zhiqiu. Hou Sihai confronts Meng Zhiqiu, who accepts blame, withdraws from the dock, and asks for his subordinates to be spared. Hou Sihai agrees, terminating their contract.
Hu Rong diligently cares for Liu Ziguang in the ICU, while Han Jin reveals the hit-and-run driver escaped, but those who assaulted Zhuo Li and the foreman confessed to being instigated by Hou Sihai. Hu Rong requests to rejoin the police, but Han Jin advises her to apply to Director Song. A recovering Zhuo Li is told by Bei Xiaoshuai that Liu Ziguang is busy at the sand quarry, but Zhuo Li grows suspicious.
Meanwhile, Hou Sihai meets Nie Wanfeng, admitting he hired someone to hit Liu Ziguang. He then demands Nie Wanfeng increase his cut, which Nie Wanfeng surprisingly accepts. Realizing something is wrong, Zhuo Li leaves his room and learns from Arthur that Liu Ziguang has been comatose for four days. Enraged, Zhuo Li, armed with scissors, attempts to confront Hou Sihai, joined by Bei Xiaoshuai, but Li Jianguo wisely stops them.
Hu Rong's plea to Director Song to rejoin the force is denied due to her emotional state, leading to her suspension. Her attempt to subtly influence her father, Hu Yuejin, also fails, as he sees through her pretense and questions her relationship with Liu Ziguang. Director Song reports to Hu Yuejin that evidence points to Hou Sihai orchestrating Liu Ziguang's accident. Hu Yuejin orders the police to dismantle Hou Sihai's criminal group systematically.
Doctors inform Hu Rong that Liu Ziguang's condition has worsened, and he might become a vegetable, leaving her heartbroken. Grandpa Guo advises Hu Rong to move on, fearing Liu Ziguang's condition will impede her own life. At Zhicheng company, Director Yin pushes Li Wan to cooperate with Hou Sihai to save the project. Li Wan, for the sake of the company and Liu Ziguang, agrees to meet Sun Wei.
At a nightclub, Sun Wei humiliates Li Wan, forcing her to drink multiple beers. She apologizes, agreeing to work with Hou Sihai. Sun Wei doesn't deny harming Zhuo Li, then has his men find and confiscate Li Wan's hidden recorder. Director Yin intervenes for her release. Before leaving, Li Wan defiantly tells Sun Wei to inform Hou Sihai she refuses to cooperate with people like them.
Hu Rong, unable to secure an arrest warrant for Hou Sihai without evidence, is suspended by Director Song for emotional bias. As she leaves in the rain, Liu Ziguang offers her an umbrella, reassuring her that she is a good police officer and that the "rain won't last forever," and as he closes the umbrella, the rain indeed stops.
Zhuo Li eventually wakes up, feeling guilty about the sand quarry, but Liu Ziguang and Bei Xiaoshuai tell him to focus on recovery. Facing chaos at the sand quarry, Liu Ziguang decides to keep it running. Li Jianguo informs them that Zhicheng's construction site is in crisis, with the foreman absconding with workers' wages, causing Li Wan and Director Yin to be surrounded. Zhicheng faces a financial crisis, and their bank denies further loans.
Hu Rong suspects Hou Sihai is behind the incidents and returns to the police station to investigate, risking her suspension. Hou Sihai invites Liu Ziguang to his birthday party. Liu Ziguang decides to attend, bringing a birthday cake. Nie Wanfeng is also present at the party.
