Li Wan had given Liu Ziguang a luxury motorcycle, explaining it was his company-provided vehicle as the security captain of Zhicheng Company. Liu Ziguang accepted it. Later, Li Wan brought Liu Ziguang to the police station to deliver an award banner. While there, she jokingly asked Han Jin when he planned to marry Hu Rong and have children, making him visibly uncomfortable. She then dramatically unveiled an award banner that read "Police Force Star Couple," much to Hu Rong's annoyance.
Later, when Han Jin entered his office, his subordinate Xiaobai was hanging the very same banner, claiming she had retrieved it from Hu Rong's trash bin. Xiaobai chided Han Jin for his passive approach to Hu Rong, suggesting everyone in the bureau already knew he liked her and that he should confess. Annoyed, Han Jin took the banner and threw it back into the trash. However, once Xiaobai left, he secretly retrieved it and tucked it away.
Liu Ziguang, Zhuo Li, and Bei Xiaoshuai gathered to review the monthly profits for Truly Authentic. Liu Ziguang proposed that his share of the 13,800 yuan profit be given to Li Jianguo. Zhuo Li readily agreed, contributing his share as well. Bei Xiaoshuai, after some hesitation, took 500 yuan for his living expenses, explaining he had a girlfriend and needed to spend money, unlike his single friends. He then placed the rest of his share into the box.
Zhuo Li remarked on how Liu Ziguang's return had set them back on a righteous path, genuinely working and earning money. He also mentioned that A-Se might hold the key to Liu Ziguang's missing eight years, as he seemed to know Liu Ziguang's past. The next day, Zhuo Li delivered the money to Li Jianguo. Initially, Li Jianguo refused, feeling as though he was being pitied.
He insisted that he was a partner in the business and knew how much he should take, and that among brothers, one should not be overly generous. Zhuo Li quickly clarified that the money was not for him, but for Wenxian's medical expenses, reminding Li Jianguo that they were all friends. He urged Li Jianguo to accept it for Wenxian's sake, as friends should help each other in times of need.
Li Jianguo, touched, accepted the money as a loan he promised to repay. That evening, Li Jianguo returned home to find Wenxian missing. He eventually located her on the road outside their house and brought her back. Weeping, Wenxian confessed her fear that her illness was a "bottomless hole" that would drag him down, especially after losing his brother, Binzi, over a decade ago. She blamed herself for his prolonged singlehood.
Li Jianguo dismissed her worries, reassuring her that he would take care of her and that she should focus on getting better. Following up on Zhuo Li's suggestion, Liu Ziguang called Hu Rong to inquire about A-Se’s address, which she provided. Liu Ziguang went to the Jiangbei Wushu School to meet A-Se.
A-Se was ecstatic, addressing Liu Ziguang as "Sect Leader" and recounting a fantastical history where Liu Ziguang, the "Sect Leader," had saved his life and taught him all his martial arts. He even showed Liu Ziguang a black stone pendant, claiming Liu Ziguang had personally given it to him.
Despite A-Se's erratic storytelling and belief that Liu Ziguang was his martial arts master, Liu Ziguang decided to take him in, considering Hu Rong's earlier remark that A-Se had no family and he was the only person A-Se seemed to know. Back at Truly Authentic, Bei Xiaoshuai and Zhuo Li found A-Se's appearance, especially his tattered clothes and smell, humorous. Bei Xiaoshuai, however, insisted that A-Se was "fashionable."
Liu Ziguang arranged for A-Se to shower and offered him new clothes, but A-Se refused to cut his long hair, believing it came from his parents, a sentiment Liu Ziguang respected. Meanwhile, Hu Rong's parents, Hu Yuejin and his wife, visited the police station to encourage the team before their upcoming assessment. Hu Rong's mother pulled Han Jin aside, asking directly if he liked Hu Rong. Han Jin confirmed his feelings.
She pressed him on why he hadn't confessed, to which he admitted concern about making their work environment awkward if things didn't work out. He promised to tell Hu Rong within a month. Later, Hu Rong was visibly distressed during shooting practice, struggling to concentrate. Xiaobai, observing her poor performance, suggested she wouldn't pass the assessment and advised her to prioritize love with Han Jin, whose feelings for her were an open secret among their colleagues.
Just then, Principal Chen from A-Se's martial arts school called Hu Rong, informing her that her "boyfriend" Liu Ziguang had picked A-Se up to live off-campus. Xiaobai was shocked to hear the term "boyfriend," while Hu Rong, denying the claim, rushed to Truly Authentic to find Liu Ziguang and A-Se. Upon arriving at Truly Authentic, Hu Rong confronted Liu Ziguang about taking A-Se.
A-Se, overjoyed to see her, called her "Sister" and insisted she stay to try the meat skewers he had learned to grill. Liu Ziguang went to prepare a cold tomato dish for her, even peeling the tomatoes meticulously. As Hu Rong ate, she suddenly felt unwell and ran to the bathroom to vomit. At the same time, a customer outside was angrily complaining that the kebabs were stale and inedible.
Liu Ziguang, realizing the seriousness of the situation, immediately took Hu Rong to the hospital, despite her protests that she needed to practice for her assessment. The doctor confirmed that Hu Rong's stomach bloating was due to consuming unhygienic food combined with high psychological stress. Walking with her in the hospital corridor, Liu Ziguang noticed her anxiety. Hu Rong confessed her lifelong dream of becoming a police officer, a dream her father had never fully supported.
She felt immense pressure to perform well, fearing failure more than anything. Liu Ziguang shared a personal anecdote about his childhood asthma and how he used to get nervous before competitions. He taught her a trick to calm her nerves: silently reciting the value of Pi. The next day, during her shooting assessment, Hu Rong remembered Liu Ziguang's advice. 1415926535897932," and to everyone's amazement, she hit every target, performing exceptionally well. Back at Truly Authentic, Liu Ziguang furiously confronted Bei Xiaoshuai with the stale kebabs, realizing the raw materials were the problem. Bei Xiaoshuai initially feigned ignorance but eventually admitted to buying cheap, low-quality ingredients because he was short on cash. Liu Ziguang sternly reminded him that honesty and integrity were paramount in business, pointing to the store's name on the wall.
Even Zhuo Li, typically a peacemaker, sided with Liu Ziguang, leaving Bei Xiaoshuai bewildered by Liu Ziguang's influence. Later, Li Wan hosted a dinner at Truly Authentic to express her gratitude to Han Jin and Hu Rong for their help during her trip to Longyang. Liu Ziguang also joined them. Suddenly, a drug dealer named Li Ge, seated at another table, recognized Han Jin as the police officer who had killed his brother years ago.
Fueled by vengeance, Li Ge grabbed Han Jin, holding a gun to his head, while his accomplice pointed a gun at Hu Rong and Liu Ziguang. Flashbacks of his time within a drug cartel surged through Liu Ziguang's mind. He swiftly disarmed Li Ge's accomplice, expertly dismantling the gun into pieces before his own eyes, a skill he hadn't known he possessed. Taking advantage of the distraction, Han Jin disarmed Li Ge.
However, Li Ge pulled out a knife, and Hu Rong rushed to assist Han Jin but was injured in the struggle. In the chaos, Li Ge seized Li Wan, taking her hostage. Thinking quickly, Hu Rong declared herself Han Jin's girlfriend. Li Ge, pleased by this development, agreed to exchange Li Wan for Hu Rong. After the exchange, Hu Rong and Han Jin exchanged a knowing glance.
With a perfectly timed, coordinated move, Hu Rong seized the opportunity and fatally shot Li Ge. Liu Ziguang rushed Hu Rong and Li Wan to the hospital. Doctors treated their wounds, and Hu Rong, having injured her leg, was told she needed to be hospitalized. However, she adamantly refused. Ignoring Li Wan's loud protests, Liu Ziguang picked Hu Rong up and carried her to the second-floor inpatient department, much to Hu Rong's embarrassment.
At the hospital, A-Se arrived and enthusiastically greeted Liu Ziguang as "Sect Leader" and Hu Rong as "Sect Leader's Wife," causing further mortification for Hu Rong. Li Wan, who only sustained minor injuries, insisted on sharing Hu Rong's hospital room, brazenly stating it was to keep an eye on them and prevent Hu Rong from "stealing" Liu Ziguang. At the shooting range, Liu Ziguang practiced with a pistol, perplexed by his natural proficiency with firearms.
This, combined with recurring violent flashes in his memory, led him to question if he had committed murder in his past. He confided in Zhuo Li, asking if he would still consider him a brother if he had done something truly terrible. Zhuo Li reassured him, arguing that if he had committed a serious crime, the police would have apprehended him by now. He advised Liu Ziguang to simply forget the past if he couldn't remember it.
Hu Yuejin and his wife visited Hu Rong in the hospital. Seeing her injured, Hu Yuejin was deeply pained and worried about his daughter's safety, feeling a responsibility to the late Officer Huang. He informed Hu Rong of his decision to have her transferred out of the Criminal Investigation Team once she recovered. Hu Rong strongly objected, citing her excellent assessment performance and expressing sadness that her father seemed to lack faith in her abilities as a detective.
Hu Yuejin, burdened by unspoken concerns, left without further explanation. Brother Hu reported Li Ge's death to Nie Wanfeng. He informed Nie Wanfeng that Li Ge was a minor contact who didn't know much. Nie Wanfeng, however, cautioned Brother Hu to be careful, as Li Ge had some "Angel" drugs, fearing the police might trace them. Brother Hu then sought out Hou Sihai, a local Jiangbei underworld figure, to help him quickly find a man known as Scarface.
Hou Sihai readily agreed, instructing his subordinate, Sun Wei, to locate Scarface immediately and eliminate him if he proved to be an unimportant lead. At the Criminal Investigation Team, Han Jin quickly interrogated Li Ge's accomplice, who revealed that their drug contact was Scarface. Han Jin promptly called Liu Ziguang, asking for surveillance footage from Truly Authentic to help identify Scarface, who had been seen dining with Li Ge. Liu Ziguang took screenshots of Scarface from the video and showed them to Bei Xiaoshuai, who hesitantly recalled seeing the man at a friend's internet cafe.
