When Destiny Brings The Demon Episode 9 Recap
> When Destiny Brings The Demon Recap
Knowing that Shi Qianlv intended to use Liao Tingyan as bait to lure him into a sealing array, Sima Jiao preemptively equipped Liao Tingyan with a powerful artifact as she prepared to attend the banquet. Liao Tingyan, unaware of the trap laid for her, innocently headed to the gathering, while Canglan, believing this was an opportune moment to obtain Liao Tingyan's inner core for her people and fearing Ye Ruling's interference, incapacitated Ye Ruling and rushed to confront Liao Tingyan.
The moment Liao Tingyan arrived, the artifact she carried, enabled by Sima Jiao's foresight, shattered the formidable arrays set by the various sect masters. Witnessing their plans foiled, the eight sect masters dropped their pretenses and immediately turned hostile towards Liao Tingyan. Sima Jiao observed the unfolding chaos and conflict from above, undisturbed.
Moon Palace Young Princess Chuhui, who had not been chosen as Sima Jiao's attendant but had built a luxurious flying pavilion nearby the Immortal Palace in hopes of encountering him, found her dwelling unexpectedly drawn towards White Deer Cliff, under Sima Jiao's influence. Upon seeing Sima Jiao arrive with Liao Tingyan, she was thrilled, believing Sima Jiao might be about to eliminate his companion.
Sima Jiao then dramatically declared the pavilion a "perfect place to kill someone," further convincing Chuhui of his brutal intent, and dismissed her, despite Liao Tingyan's protests about the impoliteness of evicting the hostess. Liao Tingyan was then left in the opulent pavilion, completely at ease and delighted by its five-star comfort.
After the apparent death of Liao Tingyan (and her life lamp extinguishing, as confirmed by Moon Palace Young Princess Chuhui), while other sect masters believed her dead and prepared to leave, Shi Qianlv expressed his lingering doubts. He pointed out that Sima Jiao had shown strong protectiveness towards Liao Tingyan in the past and urged them to verify her demise by searching for her aura at White Deer Cliff, acknowledging the danger of trespassing on Sima Jiao's territory.
Yuan Che, the Tianzhiya Sect Master, secretly loyal to Sima Jiao, volunteered to go, intending to warn the Grandmaster. However, Shi Qianlv insisted on accompanying him with a few disciples to ensure the investigation was thorough, and ordered them to capture Liao Tingyan on sight if she were found alive. Upon their arrival at White Deer Cliff, Sima Jiao confronted Shi Qianlv and his party, feigning fury at their intrusion.
He claimed to have brutally tortured Liao Tingyan, leaving no trace of her body, and commanded Shi Qianlv to clean up what appeared to be Liao Tingyan's bloody clothes. Shi Qianlv, finding only the garments retaining Liao Tingyan's aura, was finally convinced that she was dead and her soul utterly destroyed. Sima Jiao then sternly warned him against future trespasses, dismissing him and the other sect masters.
Meanwhile, Canglan, devastated by the news of Liao Tingyan's purported death and the loss of her core, lamented to Ye Ruling that their hopes of returning to the Demon Realm were dashed. Ye Ruling, still skeptical of Sima Jiao's ruthlessness towards Liao Tingyan, questioned if their bond would allow such an act.
Canglan, however, was already shifting her focus, urging Ye Ruling to target Sima Jiao instead, a suggestion Ye Ruling firmly rejected, fearing it would doom the entire Yin Palace. When Black Serpent requested an audience, Ye Ruling initially refused, but Canglan, recognizing Black Serpent's proximity to Sima Jiao, insisted that she meet with him. Hei Nianjiu, as the Black Serpent, entered and immediately inquired about Liao Tingyan.
He expressed his belief that Liao Tingyan was not truly dead, suggesting Sima Jiao had merely hidden her for protection. Ye Ruling, feigning relief, also cautioned Hei Nianjiu about the impropriety of a man visiting her so frequently. Hei Nianjiu, wanting a legitimate reason to see her, earnestly pleaded for Ye Ruling to accept him as a disciple, explaining his need to learn human ways after his recent transformation.
Though initially reluctant, Ye Ruling was persuaded by Canglan's whispered advice to utilize Hei Nianjiu's connection to Sima Jiao. Ye Ruling then revealed her true ambition: to secure a better life for her people, who were still suffering as captives from the Immortal-Demon War in the Yin Palace's Labor Camp. Deeply moved by their plight and Ye Ruling's sincerity, Hei Nianjiu pledged his unwavering support.
Recognizing his genuine heart, Ye Ruling accepted him as her disciple and bestowed upon him the name Hei Nianjiu, commemorating the day of his human transformation. To further protect Liao Tingyan from Shi Qianlv's machinations, Sima Jiao transformed her into an otter using a Form-Changing Pill, which would last for three months and turn her into the form she most vividly imagined.
Liao Tingyan was bewildered and frustrated to find herself as an otter, but Sima Jiao explained that it was necessary to make others believe she was dead and to keep her safe from Shi Qianlv, whose current respect was merely a facade. Hei Nianjiu, unaware of the otter's true identity, expressed envy at Sima Jiao's affection for the new "spirit pet."
Sima Jiao, seeking to uncover Shi Qianlv's true motives, learned that Anxue, who had previously acted as Shi Qianlv's informant, had been killed by him. Sima Jiao, using a unique spell, preserved Anxue's last wisp of spiritual energy. From her fleeting spirit, Sima Jiao discovered that Shi Qianlv and his son, Shi Zhenxu, were searching for a man with a flame-shaped birthmark on his back.
Hei Nianjiu, cleverly deducing Sima Jiao's strategy, realized that Sima Jiao had intentionally spread news of searching for Anxue, knowing Shi Qianlv's displeasure with Shi Zhenxu's involvement with her would lead him to eliminate Anxue to cover his tracks. Sima Jiao affirmed Hei Nianjiu's improved understanding. Unaware of Shi Qianlv's latest scheme involving a newly formed Spirit Fire and his son Shi Zhenxu heading to Chiyan City, Sima Jiao decided to find the man with the birthmark first.
He took Liao Tingyan, still in her otter form, to Chiyan City, the outer perimeter of the Gengchen Celestial Palace, a bustling civilian area. Liao Tingyan was thrilled by the vibrant atmosphere, finding it reminiscent of her former life. Sima Jiao assured her she could enjoy all the local delicacies. Hei Nianjiu, observing Sima Jiao doting on the otter, felt a strange stirring within him, unaware that the small creature Sima Jiao held so dear was, in fact, Liao Tingyan.
