After Shangguan Lian was imprisoned, he asked Li Bing to help take care of Shangguan Qin. Lai Zhongshu took over all the affairs of the Court of Judicial Review and repeatedly instructed Li Bing that the case was closed and he should not get too entangled. For a period of time, whenever Chen Shi thought of the scene of Chen Jiu being burned by the fire, he felt sorrowful and sad.

He recalled three years ago, when the two brothers lived on a big tree outside the village. Although they were poor, they were happy. To give his younger brother a comfortable life, Chen Jiu went to the capital to make a living, originally thinking of helping his brother after becoming successful, but he didn't expect such an end. On Lai Zhongshu's first day in office, Li Bing handed over the official seal to Lai Zhongshu.

Lai Zhongshu brought Wang Qi and the others in front of Li Bing, implying that Li Bing had secretly trespassed into the Jinwu Guard to rescue Hu Ji, Wang Qi and Sun Bao had jointly stolen case files, and Alibaba had assisted Shangguan Qin in escaping. Lai Zhongshu now had complete control over both the Jinwu Guard and the Court of Judicial Review, wielding absolute power.

Li Bing was worried that the four brothers of the Mingjing Hall would be framed, so he accused them of defying their superior and ordered them expelled from the Court of Judicial Review. After Lai Zhongshu left, Li Bing ordered Chen Shi not to follow him anymore either. Chen Shi had nowhere else to go. Li Bing couldn't worry about too much; he didn't want Chen Shi to be involved in the disputes anymore.

Chen Shi packed his luggage and walked reluctantly to the door. A Court of Judicial Review Sir Zhi happened to come in to give Chen Shi his waist token. It turned out that after the assessment a few days ago, Chen Shi had been selected as a Registrar. Chen Shi took the token and once again felt that fate was mocking him. The next day, Chen Shi prepared to return to Chen Family Village.

Not long after leaving the city gate, two middle-aged men with a carriage passed by Chen Shi, saying they were going that way anyway and could give Chen Shi a ride. Chen Shi didn't think much and got in the carriage. After traveling for a while, he felt something was wrong, so Chen Shi tried to sneak away. The two men chased him relentlessly. After grabbing Chen Shi, they questioned him about Li Bing's next actions. Chen Shi remained silent.

The two men began to show ferocious expressions. Suddenly, the four brothers of the Mingjing Hall appeared in the woods. The few of them joined forces to subdue the two carriage drivers, only then realizing they were Jinwu Guard soldiers. Wang Qi had already guessed that Li Bing would not give up easily and must have revealed the next plan to Chen Shi.

Chen Shi told Wang Qi that before Chen Jiu died, he told him to be sure to go home and look, guessing that the letter he sent him before must contain a secret. But three years ago, he was illiterate, and the content of the letter was relayed by a fellow villager. Wang Qi divided the four people from the Mingjing Hall into two groups. One group would accompany Chen Shi back to Chen Family Village to find the letter, and the other group would send a reply to the Jinwu Guard every two hours to avoid suspicion.
