Unique Lady Season 3 Episode 4 Recap
> Unique Lady Season 3 Recap
Liu Xiuwen, while overseeing the transport of goods at the dock, spotted Zhong Wumei leaving a nearby inn. Almost immediately, a man in black appeared on the inn's rooftop, seemingly intent on causing trouble. Liu Xiuwen instructed his subordinates to proceed to the dock without him, promising to join them shortly. Meanwhile, Zhong Wumei and his attendant were already at the dock, observing discreetly.
Liu Xiuwen intercepted the man in black, knocking him down from the roof and engaging him in a fight. After incapacitating the man, Liu Xiuwen noticed a token on his waist. Before he could investigate further, a woman arrived on the scene, prompting Liu Xiuwen to leave. The woman approached the unconscious man, attempting to retrieve the token from his waist. However, the man in black regained consciousness and resisted, leading to a struggle.
Zhong Wumei, having rushed to the commotion, arrived just as the man in black and the woman hastily departed. Zhong Wumei's attendant remarked that the man in black's physique was different from the woman they had seen earlier at the riverside, leading them to suspect the grand chancellor might be involved in an attempt on their lives. Later, Lin Luojing went to a pharmacy to buy Jinchuang Powder for external wounds.
Coincidentally, Liu Xiuwen was also there, requesting rat poison with a large amount of arsenic. Recognizing his voice, Lin Luojing approached him, expressing surprise at finding him in Nan Yan and asking when he had returned. Liu Xiuwen feigned coldness and denied knowing her. Lin Luojing, undeterred, presented him with Qi Yu's Sword, a sword she had previously given him, urging him to keep it safe and hoping he would return it to her one day.
Liu Xiuwen quickly left, leaving Lin Luojing puzzled and saddened by his uncharacteristic behavior. She wondered if he was involved in dangerous activities, causing him to hide his identity. Lin Luojing instructed her maid, Xi Que, to discreetly investigate if any hooded men had recently checked into local inns, emphasizing that Zhong Wumei and Zhang Ji should not be informed.
A masked man later sought out Liu Xiuwen, acknowledging his improved demeanor since their last meeting and addressing him as "Your Highness." The masked man informed Liu Xiuwen that the water transport route was now clear and that arrangements for his entry into the capital would be made swiftly. He inquired about Liu Xiuwen's plans in Qi Yu.
Liu Xiuwen asserted his people were well-prepared and then questioned why, if the route was clear, the masked man had so openly attempted to assassinate Zhong Wumei and his group, suspecting other motives. The masked man denied involvement, suggesting the recent increase in robberies in Nan Yan was due to other factions, including old accomplices of Grand Chancellor Lin Feiyu. He then provocatively asked if Liu Xiuwen's concern for Zhong Wumei's safety stemmed from feelings for Lin Luojing.
Liu Xiuwen quickly cut him off, reiterating the importance of focusing on their critical mission without distractions. The masked man also made a veiled threat concerning an antidote. After the masked man's departure, Liu Xiuwen's subordinate remarked that the physique of a masked man seen earlier that night resembled Leng Wuxie, a close attendant of the Grand Chancellor. Liu Xiuwen then mused that his former master now feared becoming a pawn himself, and vowed to retaliate for past humiliations.
He then sent his subordinate to continue monitoring the goods. Zhong Wumei, using a cross-dressing disguise, successfully lured the bandits. He feigned a fall, prompting the bandits to help him up, intending to abduct him. Zhong Wumei then subdued the bandits, had their criminal evidence attached, and sent them to the local yamen. During these events, Xiao Yu was injured once again and fell unconscious. Zhong Wumei and Lin Luojing brought her back to their guest house.
After tending to Xiao Yu's wounds, Lin Luojing, still playfully at odds with Zhong Wumei, teased him about being the "King of Jealousy," accusing him of trying to make her jealous with his concern for Xiao Yu. Zhong Wumei attempted to reconcile, denying any ulterior motives. Xiao Yu, who had regained consciousness, then expressed her deep gratitude for their repeated kindness and the eradication of the local bandits.
Lin Luojing offered her a position as her maid, suggesting she would be a companion for Xi Que. Xiao Yu tearfully accepted, revealing her tragic past of losing her family to bandits and being abandoned by her foster father, the innkeeper, after the water transport governor's death. She then informed them that the governor's former guest house in the backyard was now empty and safe for them to move into.
Meanwhile, the King of Bei Yu traveled to Sheng Jing to meet with Lin Feiyu. The King, aware that Lin Feiyu had been imprisoned, asked if he feared informing the Emperor of their meeting. Lin Feiyu reminded the King of his past assistance during the Old King of Bei Yu's illness, ensuring his succession. Grateful for this, the King urged Lin Feiyu to speak openly. Lin Feiyu stated he was there to discuss Princess Wen Ru Yu.
He knew the King was aware of Zhong Wumei's "elopement" with Lin Luojing. Lin Feiyu, despite Lin Luojing not being his biological daughter, was well aware of her character and believed her cunning could completely captivate Zhong Wumei, posing a significant threat to Princess Wen Ru Yu. He proposed eliminating Zhong Wumei to secure the Princess's future and the King's peace of mind. The King of Bei Yu initially hesitated, finding the plan too risky.
As Lin Feiyu continued to persuade him, a subordinate arrived, delivering news that Zhong Wumei's "elopement" was a ruse orchestrated by Zhong Shili to investigate the King's hidden influences, with the Tang family already exposed and now a liability. Overhearing this, the King concluded that Lin Feiyu was preoccupied with his own troubles and suggested postponing their discussion.
Lin Feiyu, however, persisted, further agitating the King by highlighting how the Zhong brothers' deceptive actions insulted Bei Yu and disrespected Princess Wen Ru Yu. Enraged, the King was swayed. Lin Feiyu, leveraging his deep understanding of the Zhong brothers, proposed that since the Qi Yu crisis remained unresolved, the Zhong family still needed their marital alliance with Bei Yu. Therefore, bringing Zhong Wumei back to Sheng Jing was the priority, and he would handle the subsequent matters.
Lin Feiyu then unveiled his plan to achieve Zhong Wumei's return, stating he only required the cooperation of one person: Princess Wen Ru Yu. Princess Wen Ru Yu, in her chambers, expressed frustration, feeling that the Emperor was deliberately avoiding her and favoring Zhong Wumei and Lin Luojing. Her maid, Shan, found a pigeon message, which was a letter from the King of Bei Yu. Using the information from this letter, Shan devised a plan to help the Princess.
Wen Ru Yu initially balked at the idea, finding it beneath her dignity as a princess. However, Shan convinced her by emphasizing that such a strategic move would ensure Zhong Wumei's return and secure a prosperous future for them both. Later, Lin Luojing noticed Zhong Wumei and Zhang Ji had left again mysteriously. With Xi Que tending to Xiao Yu, Lin Luojing found herself alone. Remembering Zhong Wumei's recent cross-dressing for their mission, she decided to cook a chicken—partly as a reward for his efforts and partly to help Xiao Yu recover.
