Xiao Qiushui revealed to Tang Fang that he discovered a Hero's Token hidden inside a broken dagger given to him by Madam Wu, which originally belonged to great hero Zhang Linyi. Tang Fang lamented the absence of the Book of Oblivion, but Xiao Qiushui explained the token bears handprints of Tianzheng, Taichan, and Zhichen. As only Zhichen is still alive, finding him might lead to information about the Book of Oblivion or Yan Kuangtu, potentially aiding Tang Shunyao.
Tang Fang, who had suspected Tang Song's ill intentions, was tracking him with an insect. She announced the Tang Sect's upcoming inheritor campaign, a tournament to determine the main branch leader, set in the forbidden Worm Valley – a suspicious choice hinting at the rearing of the Corpse Beetle King. Liu Suifeng, also present, had secretly instructed Tang Song to reinforce Worm Valley's defenses, anticipating Xiao Qiushui's appearance.
Xiao Qiushui presented the molted shell of the Corpse Beetle King to Qu Hanshan, noting its diminishing power and connecting it to Li Chenzhou and Madam Zhao Shirong's method of controlling the Power Gang's eight kings to prevent infighting. Xiao Qiushui intended to manipulate Liu Suifeng into violating Power Gang rules, making him vulnerable. He pressed Qu Hanshan for Liu Suifeng's hidden locations to facilitate his plan.
Qu Hanshan, already determined to kill Liu Suifeng, learned from Xiao Qiushui about the implications if one could escape the Corpse Beetle King's control. During the inheritor campaign, Xiao Qiushui and Liu Suifeng, both disguised, recognized each other. Tang Fang held the main arena at Scorpion Arena, drawing attention while Xiao Qiushui pursued Liu Suifeng into Worm Valley. Liu Suifeng met the Ghost King, who was preparing to release the Corpse Beetle King's 蛊虫.
Xiao Qiushui caused a diversion, leading Liu Suifeng on a chase. Qu Hanshan then arrived, fighting and killing the Ghost King after demanding his 蛊虫. Xiao Qiushui led Liu Suifeng to an open valley. In the ensuing confrontation, Qu Hanshan threw the Ghost King's body and, taking the Corpse Beetle King, revealed Liu Suifeng had been tricked. Qu Hanshan, realizing Xiao Qiushui had used him when the Corpse Beetle King's box was empty, was then killed by Xiao Qiushui.
Liu Suifeng, severely wounded, was rescued by Song Mingzhu. At the Scorpion Arena, Tang Fang won multiple rounds. Tang Song resorted to forbidden poison darts, which Xiao Qiushui blocked, and still lost. The other Tang Sect branches demanded Tang Song's removal. The five elders confessed they were forced to choose Worm Valley and were controlled by Tang Song's Corpse Beetle King's 蛊虫. Xiao Qiushui then healed them.
Madam Tang, aware of the Power Gang infiltrators, ordered Tang Song imprisoned in Avici Tower and made a slave. Tang Qing, attempting suicide, was stopped by Madam Tang and assigned to her courtyard. Tang Fang and Xiao Qiushui exposed Tang Song's involvement with the Power Gang in rearing the Corpse Beetle King. Madam Tang, while pleased the traitors were exposed, expressed displeasure at Tang Fang bringing an outsider to the tournament.
Xiao Qiushui interceded, leading Madam Tang to strike him with a powerful palm, but also presenting him with a Tang Sect invitation token, signaling the matter's resolution. Elsewhere, the severely injured Liu Suifeng was blamed by the other five Power Gang kings for the deaths of Sword King and Ghost King, but Li Chenzhou intervened, stating Liu Suifeng's actions were opportunistic, not rebellious. Xiao Yiren lamented his inability to rebuild the Xiao family/Huanhua Sect or protect its sword manual.
Xiao Xueyu comforted him, offering to marry Nangong Wushang to revive the family and protect the manual, fulfilling her gratitude to her parents. Meanwhile, Zuo Qiu was troubled by his complicated feelings for the Qu family sisters, particularly his unrequited love for Qu Mushuang.
