Li Tan was summoned back to the capital and flogged forty times. The Crown Princess felt that Li Chu and Li Tan currently did not know the true identity of her child, and she did not intend to act rashly again. Li Chu relayed what the eunuch told him to Shen Zhenzhu. He stated that he had not yet figured out the reason for Crown Princess Zhang's actions, but he urged Shen Zhenzhu to be on guard against Zhang shi.
With Yang Guifei whispering in Emperor Xuanzong of Tang's ear, Yang Guozhong was reinstated to his original post after only a few months of confinement. Yang Guozhong entered the palace to express his gratitude for the imperial favor. Outside the hall, he met Li Chu, who was also going to have an audience with the Emperor. Yang Guozhong deliberately flaunted the Emperor's favor towards the Yang family and his trust in him before Li Chu.
Li Chu responded to Yang Guozhong neither servilely nor overbearingly, leaving Yang Guozhong speechless. Inside the main hall, Li Chu suggested to the Emperor that An Lushan be summoned to the capital under the guise of appointing him prime minister, and then placed under house arrest, because recent information he had received from various sources indicated An Lushan intended to rebel. Yang Guozhong, out of his own selfish interests, firmly opposed Li Chu's proposal, and the two began to argue.
The Emperor stopped them, stating that he needed to consider it further. Afterwards, Li Chu went to Prince Jianning's Residence to visit Li Tan. Li Tan was still lying in bed recovering from his injuries, but at this point, he no longer had the dejection of earlier days. He told his older brother that he would remember his sister-in-law's words and keep his life to protect those who cherished him. Li Chu was very gratified to hear this.
He told Li Tan that he wanted him to join the army after recovering, to learn the skills of leading troops and fighting battles from General Guo. Li Tan had also heard about some matters in court and agreed to his older brother's proposal. Li Chuo wanted to go to Fanyang to find An Qingxu, but because she didn't have a travel permit, the carriage owner was unwilling to take her.
Li Chuo argued with the carriage owner on the street and even got into a fight. Su Ci, who was shopping on the street, witnessed this scene and pulled Li Chuo back to the Prince of Guangping's Residence. Li Chuo wanted to steal Li Chu's seal to obtain a travel permit to Fanyang, but she was discovered by Shen Zhenzhu. Shen Zhenzhu tried to persuade her, but Li Chuo wouldn't listen and even pushed Shen Zhenzhu.
When Li Chu returned and learned that Li Chuo was causing a ruckus at home to go to Fanyang, he immediately scolded her, explaining the implications. Seeing Li Chuo's stubbornness, he ordered Feng Shengyi to send Ruo'er back to the Eastern Palace and instructed her to be strictly guarded. Cui Caiping, who was passing by, overheard Li Chu and Li Chuo's conversation from outside the door, and a plan came to her mind.
She went to Yang Guozhong's residence and conspired with him to promote the marriage between Li Chuo and An Qingxu, planning to spread rumors about Shen Zhenzhu and An Qingxu when An Qingxu entered the capital, in order to sow discord among Li Chuo, Li Chu, and Shen Zhenzhu. Li Chuo, who was under house arrest in the Eastern Palace, neither ate nor drank.
Cui Caiping went to see her and told her about her plan, which made Li Chuo very happy, believing that Cui Caiping sincerely wanted to help her. In the palace, Yang Guifei nonchalantly mentioned Li Chuo's illness to the Emperor. The Emperor, who always doted on his granddaughter, took Yang Guifei to the Eastern Palace to visit Li Chuo.
Li Chuo tearfully told her Imperial Grandfather that she would marry no one but An Qingxu in this life, and if her long-cherished wish could not be fulfilled, she would rather die. The Emperor's heart softened and he wanted to issue an imperial decree to arrange a marriage for Li Chuo. Yang Guozhong fanned the flames, solidifying the Emperor's decision. Li Chu entered the palace, intending to stop it, but it was already too late.
An Lushan received the imperial decree, ordering An Qingxu to enter the capital within a few days to marry Li Chuo. An Qingxu was unwilling, but forced by his father's tyranny, he could only reluctantly enter the capital.
