The Comic Bang Episode 2 Recap
> The Comic Bang Recap
At night, Zuo Qiandai continued helping Ye Qi with inking his manga as his assistant. Ye Qi turned the feeling they had shared while riding the bike into a comic scene. However, when Zuo Qiandai saw the storyline he had drawn, she found it too clichéd and unappealing. Ye Qi then brought out a second version, but that one was overly melodramatic as well.
The next day, Zuo Qiandai attended her elective class and discovered that Ye Qi had also signed up for the same course. After they met, Ye Qi assumed Zuo Qiandai was very knowledgeable about the class and even jokingly asked her a question, but Zuo Qiandai actually didn’t know much about it. During the break, Zuo Qiandai asked Ye Qi why he chose to draw shoujo manga.
Ye Qi recalled how he started in this genre—back in high school, he had created a hot-blooded shounen manga and approached many magazines, but only one, called Shoujo Monthly, responded. They asked him to change his style, and Ye Qi gradually adjusted to suit their expectations. Zuo Qiandai later found out by chance that Ye Qi’s manga was based on a real person. Curious, she asked who the character Amei in the manga was.
Ye Qi told her Amei was a good friend, and even mentioned that Amei had spent the night at his place the previous Saturday. This made Zuo Qiandai misunderstand and assume they were in a romantic relationship. Unwilling to accept this, Zuo Qiandai wanted to meet the real-life inspiration for Amei. During lunch, she suddenly spotted Amei in the cafeteria.
Curious, she tried to get a look at Amei’s face, but was surprised—Amei didn’t look as adorable and charming as depicted in the manga and was even being pursued by male students. Unable to find Ye Qi, Zuo Qiandai happened to run into Ye Qi’s good friend Chai Ziyu. Chai Ziyu’s good looks instantly captivated her. At the same time, many girls downstairs were screaming Chai Ziyu’s name—he was famous in the school for his talent.
Zuo Qiandai noticed that many of Chai Ziyu’s mannerisms resembled the character Amei from the manga. Ye Qi quietly told her that Chai Ziyu was actually the real-life model for Amei and asked her to keep it a secret. Only then did Zuo Qiandai feel relieved, realizing Amei was actually a boy and not a romantic rival. Ye Qi and Zuo Qiandai continued working on their project, while Chai Ziyu behaved oddly on the side.
Ye Qi realized Chai Ziyu wanted Zuo Qiandai to come ask him for guidance, so he tried to help fulfill this little wish. Zuo Qiandai followed his suggestion and asked Chai Ziyu for advice once. Feeling bored, Zuo Qiandai suggested they all have a drawing contest featuring architecture, only to discover none of the three were very good at drawing buildings. While they were working, Ye Qi suddenly received a message—his previous manuscript had been rejected.
His comics had always topped the charts before, but now he had dropped to second and never made it back to first place, showing that he had hit a creative bottleneck. After drawing for so long, he no longer knew what kind of fresh story could captivate readers. Zuo Qiandai suggested introducing a new character to push the story forward and continue attracting fans.
Chai Ziyu brought Ye Qi and Zuo Qiandai to meet his good friend Lu Dao from the drama club. The moment they met her, Ye Qi and Zuo Qiandai were deeply intrigued. Although Lu Dao was a girl, her style and charm captivated the other girls around her. Just as Lu Dao was showing off her charisma, the drama club president, Gu Zhengxing, came to drag her away for rehearsal, angry at her repeated tardiness. While chatting with Chai Ziyu, Zuo Qiandai once again sensed that something might be going on between Ye Qi and Lu Dao, and rushed off to find Lu Dao for confirmation.
