Du Xiaosu urgently sought Mr. Ning for a position that offered quick financial gain, explaining her pressing need for money within 30 days. Mr. Ning acknowledged her work ability but expressed hesitation about a personnel transfer. He eventually suggested the demanding role of supervising the Entertainment Center construction site, warning her about the strenuous conditions of working from dawn to dusk in all weather with laborers.

Despite his concerns, Du Xiaosu confidently accepted, affirming her capability and the job's quick payment suited her needs perfectly. From that day on, Du Xiaosu diligently worked at the construction site, enduring the elements without complaint. Later, Du Xiaosu appeared at the construction site to confront Lei Yuzheng. He questioned her about her progress in gathering money for the house, to which Du Xiaosu retorted, asking if he was already backing out of their agreement.

Lei Yuzheng denied it, reiterating that he would hand over the house if she secured the funds within the agreed timeframe, but he would also gladly accept her defeat if she faltered. Du Xiaosu remarked that her suffering must bring him satisfaction. Lei Yuzheng countered that being hated meant someone still cared about her existence, urging her to remember that hatred as a source of strength.

Du Xiaosu defiantly declared that no matter the hardship, she would see the gamble through to the end and never surrender, promising him good news. Seeking additional income, Du Xiaosu confided in Siqi, asking if she knew of any part-time jobs. Siqi expressed doubt that any job could help her raise millions of yuan in such a short time, advising Du Xiaosu not to fight Lei Yuzheng or fate. Du Xiaosu insisted she had no other choice.

Siqi then mentioned a friend's bar in the Bund, known for good business and pay, and offered to inquire for her. Du Xiaosu gratefully accepted. At the bar, the manager bypassed her resume, asking directly if she could drink a lot. Du Xiaosu admitted she couldn't, but highlighted her strong sales record from her college days. Convinced by her assertiveness, the manager offered her a trial shift that very night, which Du Xiaosu eagerly accepted.

That night, Lei Yuzheng arrived at the same bar, ordering two glasses of Brandy. While drinking, he had flashbacks of Shao Zhenrong at a bar, talking about unwinding and enjoying whiskey, and their bond of friendship. Lei Yuzheng then spotted Du Xiaosu working, enduring pressure from a customer named Mr. Shangguan, who was making her drink heavily without any intention of buying. Disgusted, Lei Yuzheng forcefully pulled Du Xiaosu away.

She struggled, bewildered by his intervention, claiming she owed him nothing as she had lost everything – her lover, her job, and even her house. She hysterically declared herself a "crazy person with nothing left," a "lonely soul" who could die anywhere, urging him to leave her alone. Lei Yuzheng retorted that he wouldn't bother if it weren't for Shao Zhenrong, questioning whom she was trying to impress with her self-destructive behavior.

He asked if she truly believed he would give her the house key if she drank herself to death. Du Xiaosu accused him of hating her and wishing for her defeat, then tearfully expressed her profound pain, asserting that with Shao Zhenrong gone, her heart was gone too, leaving her like a "zombie." Lei Yuzheng sternly commanded her to stand up, reminding her that she was not alone in her suffering.

Du Xiaosu mocked his words, claiming his heart was a "cold rock" incapable of pain. Ignoring her protests, Lei Yuzheng dragged her out, stating he was taking the "ghost" to release her soul from suffering, and shoved her into his car. In the car, Du Xiaosu began to vomit profusely. Lei Yuzheng, visibly annoyed, gave her a bottle of water, instructing her to open it.

As she slowly sobered, she spitefully told Lei Yuzheng how good it felt to torture him, calling him a "psycho." She continued, claiming he was just like her—a "lonely ghost," "half dead inside," and questioned if he ever cried at night or wondered what he was living for. She concluded that both their lives "sucked" because the person they loved most was gone, leaving an empty void in their hearts, like carrying "ruins" while living.

Lei Yuzheng, after listening to her drunken ramblings, asked for her address, but she was too incoherent to reply clearly. Faced with her inability to articulate where she lived, he threatened to abandon her on the street. Lei Yuzheng then took her to a hotel. Du Xiaosu woke up in the room, disoriented. Seeing Lei Yuzheng and her own disheveled state, she mistakenly assumed he was harassing her.

In response, Lei Yuzheng grabbed the showerhead and sprayed her with cold water, telling her to look in the mirror and asking, "Whose hair is as messy as a shredded squid?" She eventually calmed down. He then called his assistant, Gu, asking for women's clothes to be sent, admitting he didn't know the size. After the clothes arrived, he found Du Xiaosu sound asleep in the bathtub.

The next morning, Du Xiaosu woke up and admired the panoramic view of the Huangpu River from the hotel window. She quietly put on the new clothes and attempted to sneak out. However, Lei Yuzheng was also awake and stopped her. She apologized, stating she needed to leave, and promised to return the clothes later. Lei Yuzheng informed her that it was too early to catch a taxi, and the earliest bus was still an hour away.

He offered her breakfast. Hesitantly, she took a bite, then listened as he lectured her about her reckless behavior at the bar, warning her of the dangers she narrowly avoided. Du Xiaosu retorted that she was not a child and capable of protecting herself. She acknowledged his help at the bar but chastised him for scolding her, insisting she never asked for his intervention and he should have left her alone.

Lei Yuzheng exasperatedly asked if she thought he wanted to bother with her. Du Xiaosu finished eating and departed. Later that morning, Du Xiaosu received a substantial bonus from the bar owner. The owner praised her performance, noting that her sales from the previous night alone exceeded a week's worth. He encouraged her to continue, promising good pay. Feeling a mix of emotions, Du Xiaosu found herself at the noodle shop where she and Shao Zhenrong had first met.

There, she was overwhelmed by memories, particularly of Shao Zhenrong playfully calling her "Xiaozhu (piggy) Du" and promising to never leave her, even if she literally turned into a pig. Meanwhile, Lin Xiangyuan spoke with Lei Yuzheng, subtly inquiring about the progress of the Entertainment Center project. Lei Yuzheng pressed him for his own thoughts on the matter.

Lin Xiangyuan, with a hint of flattery, suggested a grand groundbreaking ceremony, inviting social elites and media to showcase Lei Yuzheng's achievements for Yutian and boost the company's stock price. Lei Yuzheng, however, saw through his intentions and sarcastically questioned whether such an idea was truly meant to help or undermine him. Frustrated by Lei Yuzheng's discerning response, Lin Xiangyuan called Xie Li.

He complained that Lei Yuzheng was not cooperating and had rejected his proposal for a grand opening ceremony, even blaming him. Xie Li calmly reminded him that Lei Yuzheng was "very low-key" and assured Lin Xiangyuan that he had already arranged for people to cause trouble, telling him to just "sit and wait." Lin Xiangyuan, somewhat apprehensive, cautioned Xie Li not to create problems for him.

At the construction site, a group of unruly protestors suddenly appeared, stopping work and threatening to harm anyone who resisted. Du Xiaosu, who was on patrol, was alerted by Engineer Wang about the disruption. She quickly told the workers to temporarily cease their work and then went to confront the group. The protestors angrily claimed that Yutian had demolished their factory and destroyed their livelihood, demanding more money for relocation.

Du Xiaosu tried to explain that the contract was with Xinsheng, and Yutian was not directly responsible. However, the protestors refused to listen, insisting that whoever demolished the building was accountable and threatened to take their demands directly to the Yutian company headquarters. Du Xiaosu, attempting to block their path, was physically pushed and hit by the mob. Just then, Lei Yuzheng, who had already been alerted to the potential "noise" at the site, arrived.

He swiftly intervened, physically subduing the ringleader and warning him of severe consequences, demanding to know who sent them. He then identified himself as "President of Yutian, Lei Yuzheng." He acknowledged their grievances regarding the relocation fees but sternly warned them that engaging in unlawful protests and disrupting construction would result in significant repercussions. The protestors, however, continued to clamor for their money, insisting on their right to live.

Amidst the chaos, Du Xiaosu, who had been trying to reason with them, suddenly collapsed from sheer exhaustion. Lei Yuzheng immediately noticed her fall and rushed to her side, asking if she was alright. He then ordered his men to surround the protestors, declaring that they had caused "big trouble" and would not be allowed to leave. The protest leader attempted to deflect blame, claiming Du Xiaosu fell on her own, but Lei Yuzheng disregarded him.

Lei Yuzheng quickly transported Du Xiaosu to the hospital. The doctor informed him that she had suffered temporary shock due to prolonged fatigue, severe malnutrition, hypoglycemia, and dizziness. He confirmed she had received a nutrient solution and required ample rest. As Du Xiaosu regained consciousness, she murmured Shao Zhenrong's name, reaching out and clinging to Lei Yuzheng's clothes, pleading with him not to leave. Lei Yuzheng, visibly softened by her raw grief and confusion, quietly remained by her side.
