Shao Zhenrong watched Du Xiaosu, who looked utterly heartbroken. He couldn't help but embrace her tightly, telling her that he was leaving for Yunnan and urging her to eat on time, three meals a day, and never stay up late, no matter how tired or busy she became. Du Xiaosu leaned into his arms, overcome with sorrow, and they shared a tearful farewell. Shao Zhenrong told her he felt their connection would always remain.
As he left, Du Xiaosu quickly came to her senses and chased after him, but he had already driven away. Shao Zhenrong headed to the airport for his trip to Yunnan. Lei Yuzheng came to see him off. Shao Zhenrong specifically asked Lei Yuzheng to take good care of his mother, Shao Kaixuan, while he was gone, and also asked him to check on Du Xiaosu from time to time.
He hoped Du Xiaosu would come to the airport, but she never appeared. Shao Zhenrong was visibly disappointed, yet he resolved to reconcile with her once he returned from Yunnan. As the boarding time approached, he had to follow his colleagues through security, but not before reiterating to Lei Yuzheng that Du Xiaosu, being on her own and carrying her grievances alone, needed care, and he still hoped she would understand things.
Lei Yuzheng expressed frustration that Du Xiaosu hadn't shown up, but Shao Zhenrong suggested it was for the best, allowing her time to think. That morning, Du Xiaosu was restless. Zou Siqi, noticing her anxiety, urged her to go after Shao Zhenrong, reminding her how rare it was for a girl to find a man who truly loved her, and warning her she'd regret it if she didn't go. Upon arriving, Du Xiaosu frantically inquired about Shao Zhenrong's flight to Yunnan, only to be told that it had departed five minutes earlier. He claimed she purposefully approached his brother, took advantage of his kindness, and then dumped him without consideration. Du Xiaosu repeatedly insisted that her feelings for Shao Zhenrong were serious, but Lei Yuzheng dismissed her sincerity as "cheap." He warned her fiercely that if anything happened to Shao Zhenrong, he would hold her accountable.
Later, Du Xiaosu received a phone call from a jewelry store. A salesperson informed her that Shao Zhenrong had ordered a diamond ring about two weeks prior and it had been ready for a week, but he hadn't picked it up and they couldn't reach him. Du Xiaosu remembered Shao Zhenrong's earlier proposal and realized his profound intentions.
Overcome with regret for their breakup, she immediately began packing her bags, determined to go to Yunnan and confess her mistakes to him. Zou Siqi tried to persuade her to calm down and not act impulsively, reminding her of the pain of their separation. However, Du Xiaosu was resolute, lamenting that she had given up too easily and now realized how real all of Shao Zhenrong's promises and visions for their future had been.
She told Siqi she had to go tell him she was wrong, but she couldn't reach him by phone. Siqi expressed concern about the heavy rain in Yunnan, urging her to be careful. As heavy rain poured outside, Lei Yuzheng felt a sudden, inexplicable unease. He inadvertently pulled off a shirt button, a sign that intensified his growing sense of foreboding about Shao Zhenrong.
Meanwhile, Du Xiaosu arrived at the airport, only to learn that flights to Kunming, Yunnan, were severely delayed due to continuous heavy rainfall. She waited anxiously overnight. After finally arriving in Yunnan, she immediately called Shao Zhenrong, but a doctor from Shilin People's Hospital answered instead. The doctor informed her that Shao Zhenrong had been gravely injured in a mudslide while on his way to a mountain area and was currently undergoing emergency rescue at the hospital.
Du Xiaosu was utterly terrified. Upon seeing news reports of mudslides in parts of the Kunming mountain area, Lei Yuzheng repeatedly tried to call Shao Zhenrong, but there was no answer. Du Xiaosu rushed by taxi to Shilin People's Hospital. As she arrived, doctors were desperately trying to resuscitate Shao Zhenrong.
Ignoring the nurses who tried to stop her, Du Xiaosu burst into the emergency room and collapsed by Shao Zhenrong's bedside, calling his name and begging him to wake up. A doctor sorrowfully informed her of their loss. Du Xiaosu refused to accept it, pleading with the doctors to try again, insisting they could save him. But all efforts were in vain, and Shao Zhenrong was declared dead.
Overwhelmed by grief, Du Xiaosu cried out that he couldn't leave her and then collapsed, fainting on the floor. Shao Kaixuan, devastated by the loss of her beloved son, fell ill from grief. Lei Yuzheng ensured she was settled at home before immediately flying to Yunnan to handle Shao Zhenrong's funeral arrangements. Du Xiaosu woke up in the hospital, realizing she had slept for most of the day.
A nurse handed her a death certificate to sign, but Du Xiaosu couldn't accept the reality, accusing the nurse of hiding Shao Zhenrong. She frantically searched for him and eventually found his body in the morgue. She embraced him tightly, sobbing his name, reminding him of his promise to marry her. She pulled out the diamond ring he had ordered for her, crying that she knew he was about to propose, and promised to change for him.
Lei Yuzheng arrived at the morgue and, upon seeing Du Xiaosu, harshly told her she didn't deserve Shao Zhenrong before pushing her away from him. He then spoke with a nurse, who explained that Shao Zhenrong's car had overturned in a debris flow on his way back from Dake Country, causing severe internal injuries, and he had already been beyond help when they found him. Lei Yuzheng was consumed by sorrow.
Meanwhile, Jiang Fanlv learned of Shao Zhenrong's death and expressed her deep sadness to Lin Xiangyuan, reminiscing about having dinner with him just days earlier. Lin Xiangyuan callously dismissed it as fate. Jiang Fanlv, recalling how Shao Zhenrong had been like a brother to her, insisted on attending his final send-off. Lei Yuzheng brought Shao Zhenrong's ashes back home to Shao Kaixuan, who was still unwell from grief.
He gently told her that she had two sons, and now that Zhenrong was gone, he would step into that role and take care of her. Du Xiaosu watched the somber scene from a distance, hesitant to approach. Lei Yuzheng caught her eye and glared at her, and she quietly left.
