Lin Xiangyuan persistently pursued Jiang Fanlv, even showing up at her doorstep. He offered her flowers and confessed his feelings, asking for a chance. Jiang Fanlv, though annoyed, accepted the flowers and sent him away quickly. Her father, Jiang Jin, witnessed this from his balcony and confronted her, disapproving of her involvement with Lin Xiangyuan. Jiang Fanlv then confessed that she had a one-night stand with Lin Xiangyuan when she was upset and drunk after Lei Yuzheng had rejected her.
Jiang Jin severely reprimanded her, emphasizing that abandoning oneself wouldn't make Lei Yuzheng love her more and that she shouldn't be with Lin Xiangyuan. Du Xiaosu's new studio remained without clients, leading her to playfully chant for customers to arrive. Lei Yuzheng visited, noting the studio's quiet state and suggesting she return to Boyuan as he could speak to Ning Weicheng. Du Xiaosu, however, was resolute in pursuing her own path, refusing to give up on her dream.
Unbeknownst to Du Xiaosu, Lei Yuzheng then met with his boss, Ye Shenkuan, for drinks. Lei Yuzheng strongly recommended Du Xiaosu's design studio to him, suggesting her for an office renovation project. Ye Shenkuan, surprised by Lei Yuzheng's unusual request—as Lei Yuzheng never asked for favors, especially for a woman—jokingly asked if he was in love. Lei Yuzheng instructed Ye Shenkuan not to reveal that he was the one who connected them.
After much consideration, Jiang Fanlv decided to get engaged to Lin Xiangyuan. She personally delivered a wedding invitation to Lei Yuzheng at his office. When Jiang Fanlv initially congratulated Lei Yuzheng, he offered congratulations in return. However, upon seeing Lin Xiangyuan's name on the invitation, Lei Yuzheng became concerned. He warned Jiang Fanlv to reconsider, stating that Lin Xiangyuan might not be as simple as she perceived and was "not good for her."
He urged her to "think twice," expressing his desire for her happiness. He offered her a lucrative contract to renovate an office building.
Du Xiaosu was absolutely ecstatic, seeing it as a sign that she wouldn't "starve" and could keep her studio afloat. She didn't inquire how he knew about her, simply embracing the opportunity. During their conversation, Zou Siqi revealed she would be accompanying Shangguan Boyao on a business trip to Guangzhou the next day. Du Xiaosu strongly objected, reminding Zou Siqi of her loyalty to He Qunfei.
Zou Siqi, however, confessed that she couldn't live like Du Xiaosu, "begging every day for a big contract out of nowhere" and living "without tomorrow," implying her desire for a more stable or prosperous life. Du Xiaosu, seeing Zou Siqi's mind was made up, could only caution her to "be careful." Du Xiaosu had planned a picnic celebration in the park with Zou Siqi, but Zou Siqi canceled at the last minute.
Undeterred, Du Xiaosu went alone, bringing food and drinks. She joyfully toasted to herself, declaring that she had "finally settled in Shanghai," established her own studio, and secured a significant contract, believing her parents would be proud and that she was on her way to becoming a "real architect." She soon became quite drunk. Lei Yuzheng called her, and upon learning she was in the botanical garden, drove there to meet her.
He found her in a relaxed and happy state and, after playfully chiding her for not inviting him to celebrate her "big contract," joined her. Du Xiaosu exuberantly recounted her success, even boasting about her talent being "wasted" at Boyuan. Lei Yuzheng, amused by her childlike happiness, jokingly suggested that Boyuan now had a competitor and even proposed they "join forces," noting that "Yutian is always waiting for you." Du Xiaosu replied she needed time to think.
They continued to drink and chat happily, with Du Xiaosu expressing surprise at her own newfound value. Lei Yuzheng simply told her he was happy for her and dismissed her concerns about being "mean" to her client. Prior to the engagement, Jiang Jin summoned Lin Xiangyuan to his home. He bluntly told Lin Xiangyuan that he was "not the son-in-law I was expecting" but would accept him if he promised to be good to Jiang Fanlv.
Lin Xiangyuan pledged his devotion, promising to "favor her and love her forever" and treat Jiang Jin as his own father. Jiang Fanlv had prepared an invitation for Du Xiaosu and entrusted Lin Xiangyuan to deliver it, since Lei Yuzheng had already received his. Meanwhile, Du Xiaosu successfully completed the office renovation for Ye Shenkuan, who expressed great satisfaction with her work, playfully remarking that "it turns out that he likes this type."
Shortly after, Du Xiaosu received a phone call from Lin Xiangyuan. She met with him, and he handed her the engagement invitation. Du Xiaosu offered her congratulations to the couple, expressing her well wishes and confirming she would attend the ceremony on time, also stating that Shao Zhenrong would always be in her heart. Jiang Jin approached Lei Yuzheng, offering apologies for any past annoyances caused by Jiang Fanlv and promising they would not recur. Lei Yuzheng gracefully steered the conversation, extending his congratulations to Jiang Jin on the celebratory occasion.
Inside the banquet hall, Lei Yuzheng noticed Du Xiaosu and expressed surprise at her presence, quickly realizing Lin Xiangyuan must have invited her. Du Xiaosu, in turn, playfully asked if he was there for "bride kidnapping," to which Lei Yuzheng retorted that Jiang Fanlv was "not his type."
Du Xiaosu then jokingly described Lei Yuzheng's ideal partner: a beautiful woman resembling a Hollywood actress, from a well-bred family, with a gentle and obedient character capable of tolerating his "bad temper," causing him to call her "insane" for teasing him. The engagement ceremony then commenced with Jiang Jin delivering a brief speech.
He thanked the guests for attending his daughter Fanlv's engagement to Lin Xiangyuan, highlighting their love and commitment, and asked the attendees to support his new son-in-law, Xiangyuan. Du Xiaosu was deeply moved by the emotional atmosphere, to the point of tearing up. Lei Yuzheng, observing her, teased her for being "sentimental" and "naive," questioning if she truly believed one could "live on fate and love" alone. She then confessed she was "starving" and found the cake "tasty."
The engagement ceremony concluded with a spectacular fireworks display. As they watched the vibrant bursts in the night sky, Du Xiaosu mused that happiness, much like fireworks, was "just one moment," dazzling yet "less possible to keep." Lei Yuzheng, however, countered that it didn't matter if it was fleeting, as long as "it was dazzling." Later, Du Xiaosu's studio became incredibly busy with a constant stream of clients. One evening, Lei Yuzheng visited her studio and found her asleep, hunched over her desk, clearly exhausted from overwork. He looked at her with a tender, pitying expression.
