As the annual Yutian company gala approached, Zou Siqi insisted on giving Du Xiaosu a makeover. She presented Du Xiaosu with an elegant white gown, falsely claiming it was a reward from Mr. Mo for her good work performance. Du Xiaosu, though surprised by its high price of at least 10,000 RMB, trusted Zou Siqi and changed into the dress, feeling a bit nervous before entering the event.

Zou Siqi encouraged her, telling her to be confident and not nervous, reminding her that "being pretty is more important than being talented." After dropping off Du Xiaosu, Zou Siqi's car was involved in a minor fender bender with Jiang Fanlv's vehicle. Jiang Fanlv, unwilling to settle the matter quickly, demanded Zou Siqi's contact information and home address. When Zou Siqi provided the address "Fu Long Jing Yuan, Building 23, Apartment 2001," Jiang Fanlv became suspicious.

She immediately called someone named Dai Meng to investigate, having likely realized the address belonged to a company-provided apartment for Lin Xiangyuan. Zou Siqi, irritated by the inquiry, simply stated she lived there and that was it. Jiang Fanlv made a grand entrance at the gala, wearing the white gown and immediately drawing everyone's attention. Lin Xiangyuan was stunned, not expecting her to have bought the same dress she had previously rejected.

The guests were admiring Jiang Fanlv when Du Xiaosu appeared in an identical white gown. The striking similarity instantly sparked hushed whispers and gossip among the attendees, who found the situation highly embarrassing. Jiang Fanlv immediately suspected that Lin Xiangyuan had given the dress to Du Xiaosu. To alleviate Du Xiaosu's awkwardness and the mounting tension, Lei Yuzheng stepped forward and invited Du Xiaosu for the first dance.

Despite Du Xiaosu's initial hesitation, admitting she was not good at dancing, Lei Yuzheng reassured her to just follow his lead. This public display of attention from Lei Yuzheng only fueled Jiang Fanlv's anger, making her seethe with fury. Jiang Fanlv found Lin Xiangyuan to confront him about the dresses, expressing her deep annoyance at clashing outfits with Du Xiaosu. Lin Xiangyuan initially feigned ignorance, claiming he knew nothing about Du Xiaosu's gown.

Jiang Fanlv then revealed her knowledge, accusing him of using company-reimbursed funds to buy the dress for Du Xiaosu, and further exposing that he had given his company-provided apartment to Zou Siqi, where Du Xiaosu was also living. Cornered, Lin Xiangyuan apologized profusely. Not content with a private confrontation, Jiang Fanlv then publicly interrupted the gala, calling out Lin Xiangyuan to confirm that he had indeed given Du Xiaosu the gown and the apartment.

Lin Xiangyuan reluctantly admitted to both, shocking Du Xiaosu, who was caught completely off guard by the public revelation. Lei Yuzheng quickly instructed He Qunfei to remove Jiang Fanlv from the scene to prevent further chaos. He then pulled Du Xiaosu aside, accusing her of being manipulative and inconsistent, implying she was exploiting Lin Xiangyuan. Without a word of explanation, Du Xiaosu slapped Lei Yuzheng across the face and walked away without looking back.

Lei Yuzheng pursued her, finding her in tears, clearly wronged. Du Xiaosu, crying, explained that she had no idea the apartment or the dress were from Lin Xiangyuan and would never have accepted them if she had known. Lei Yuzheng voiced his suspicion that Lin Xiangyuan had ulterior motives for her. Angered by his continued mistrust, Du Xiaosu abruptly turned and left again. Lei Yuzheng caught up to Du Xiaosu and draped his coat over her.

Enraged, Du Xiaosu vehemently rejected his gesture, perceiving it as "cheap compassion." She accused him of not trusting her and questioned why he had shown her kindness in the past, such as returning the apartment, comforting her on the island, and sharing childhood memories, if he still held such negative views. When he stated they were "friends," she retorted with bitterness, asking if he could admit he had no prejudice against her and acknowledge his true feelings.

Lei Yuzheng conceded he had emotions. Du Xiaosu then admitted that Lin Xiangyuan had pursued her in college, but she never reciprocated his feelings. She insightfully suggested that Lei Yuzheng's deeply rooted prejudice against her stemmed from a specific rainy night when he rescued her, an event he had witnessed.

She expressed her disappointment, believing his past kindness meant his attitude had changed, but now felt she was unworthy in his eyes, concluding that a "no-class employee" like her discussing relationships with a boss like him might seem laughable. Lei Yuzheng tried to interject, but she cut him off, stating no explanation was needed.

He then agreed with her, acknowledging that no one, regardless of status, has the right to mock another's self-respect, and that in that moment, they were equals. Du Xiaosu, however, simply stated that there were many unfair things in the world and that she might be too sensitive, before deciding it was late and she needed to go home.

Du Xiaosu returned home dispirited, where Zou Siqi immediately apologized for everything that had happened at the gala, admitting her fault in trusting Lin Xiangyuan and expressing her sadness at seeing Du Xiaosu upset. Du Xiaosu, though not blaming her, declared her intention to move out the next day. Zou Siqi, regretting her choices, readily agreed to move back to their old apartment with her.

The next morning at work, Du Xiaosu had to endure sarcastic remarks and snide comments from female colleagues, who openly gossiped about her "easy life" and implied she gained advantages by "acting lovey-dovey," but she chose to ignore them. The next morning, Lei Yuzheng summoned Lin Xiangyuan, demanding to know why he had bought Du Xiaosu the dress and arranged her living situation. Lei Yuzheng's primary concern was whether Du Xiaosu was aware of Lin Xiangyuan's actions.

Lin Xiangyuan admitted that Du Xiaosu had no prior knowledge of either the dress or the apartment, confirming it was all his unilateral doing. Satisfied, Lei Yuzheng dismissed him. Later, He Qunfei reported to Lei Yuzheng about the rampant gossip and harsh words being spread about Du Xiaosu by some female colleagues. Upon identifying the individuals, Lei Yuzheng immediately ordered them to be fired, with three months' salary as severance.

Meanwhile, Jiang Fanlv repeatedly tried to call Lei Yuzheng, but he wouldn't answer. Distraught, she asked her father, Jiang Jin, to call him. Lei Yuzheng, guessing Jiang Fanlv was nearby, agreed to meet her that evening to talk things over. Jiang Fanlv was overjoyed and meticulously dressed up for the appointment. Later that evening, Lei Yuzheng met Jiang Fanlv. He immediately chastised her for publicly embarrassing Du Xiaosu at the gala, which made Jiang Fanlv jealous.

She questioned why Du Xiaosu was so attractive that he kept saving her and accused him of disappearing with a "no-class employee" during the party. Changing the subject, Jiang Fanlv confessed her long-held desire to ask him a question, despite Lei Yuzheng's warning that the answer might hurt her. She then asked if he liked her. Lei Yuzheng admitted that he did like her, but explicitly stated it had nothing to do with romantic love.

He explained that having grown up together, his care for her was real, but he had always seen her as a little sister, a feeling that would never change. Heartbroken, Jiang Fanlv refused to believe he never had romantic feelings for her. A new housing purchase restriction policy was enacted in Shanghai, which prompted the apartment owner, Mr. Li, to visit Du Xiaosu and Zou Siqi.

He apologized for his previous insistence on them moving out, explaining that with the new policies, it was more advantageous to collect rent. He confirmed his willingness for them to continue living there, much to their relief, and they eagerly agreed to renew the lease. After much consideration, Du Xiaosu submitted her resignation to Mr. Ning, explaining that she was exhausted and needed a rest.

Mr. Ning, sympathetic, suggested she take a vacation instead and held onto her resignation letter, hoping she would reconsider. Du Xiaosu then packed her bags to visit the children on the island. Before leaving, she called Zou Siqi, asking her to keep her resignation a secret from both He Qunfei and Lei Yuzheng. However, Lei Yuzheng soon learned of Du Xiaosu's resignation directly from Mr. Ning.

Meanwhile, Jiang Fanlv, distressed by Lei Yuzheng's rejection, began spending her nights drinking heavily at bars. Her father, Jiang Jin, worried by her behavior, confided in Lin Xiangyuan, asking if he knew what was troubling her. Lin Xiangyuan, promising to speak with her, later found Jiang Fanlv drinking alone at a bar. He tried to persuade her to stop, concerned for her safety, and offered to drink in her place. Under the influence of alcohol, Jiang Fanlv drunkenly turned to him and asked, "Do you like me?"
