Serendipity Episode 19 Recap
> Serendipity Recap
Jian Mingshu, Song Qingzhao, and Ying Xun lay in wait late at night. When Qian Si appeared, they stepped forward and captured him, tying him up at the entrance of his lover’s house, allowing Qian Si’s wife to catch him in the act. During the ensuing argument among the three, the truth about accepting bribes to give false testimony came to light.
Jian Mingshu and Song Qingzhao seized the opportunity and took Qian Si to the Liangzhou Prefecture to file a complaint and seek justice. Yin Shujun and the Princess of Wen’an specifically ordered the flags on their carriage to be raised in support of Jian Mingshu. Song Qingzhao stood by Jian Mingshu’s side as Yin Shujun and the Princess’s carriage stopped nearby. The Prefect Jia had no choice but to immediately convene court.
Jian Mingshu and Song Qingzhao requested Prefect Jia to summon the local clinic to examine Qian Si’s injuries. The clinic confirmed that Qian Si’s leg injury was real. Song Qingzhao hurriedly called upon the Dali Temple’s medical clinic, which concluded that although Qian Si’s leg was indeed broken, the injury was sustained earlier and was not caused by a carriage. Prefect Jia still delayed proceedings and continued to imprison Lu Chang.
As Jian Mingshu rushed about for Lu Chang’s sake, the assassin continued to watch her like a hawk. The one orchestrating Lu Chang’s case behind the scenes was Minister Lu, who sought to avenge his son. Jian Mingshu refused to eat or drink. Worried for her health, Song Qingzhao went out to buy her pastries. But when he turned back, Jian Mingshu had disappeared. She had been abducted into an alley by the assassin.
By the time Song Qingzhao arrived, she was already vomiting blood and unconscious. Ying Xun chased after the assassin, but the man committed suicide by poison. Jian Mingshu’s heart meridian was damaged. The doctor said only the “Condensed Heart Pill” could save her. Song Qingzhao rushed home to retrieve the medicine, only to be stopped by his father. His father asked what exactly his relationship with Jian Mingshu was.
Song Qingzhao honestly said she was the one he admired and, with her life hanging by a thread, saving her was the priority. His father refused to let him go unless he severed all ties with Jian Mingshu. For the first time, Song Qingzhao defied his father for her. While Jian Mingshu remained unconscious, Song Qingzhao stayed by her side and took great care of her.
In prison, Lu Chang heard that Jian Mingshu had been knocked unconscious not long after going out, and became extremely anxious. Back at home, Song Qingzhao knelt for a long time but still refused to sever ties with Jian Mingshu. He swore he would marry no one else in this lifetime. His father, furious, whipped him. If not for his mother shielding him, he might have been beaten to death. Still injured, Song Qingzhao came to care for Jian Mingshu.
Lu Chang asked the prison guard to let him meet Prefect Jia and requested to be released. Prefect Jia, wanting to prevent him from taking the exam, gave a condition: he could go out, but upon returning he must face heavy punishment. Lu Chang agreed without hesitation. Jian Mingshu remained unconscious for a long time. After much effort, Lu Chang was allowed to return home to visit her, only to be told that Jian Mingshu might not make it.
At a loss, Lu Chang held her hand, blaming himself, saying it was his fault, that he had let her down. All he wished was for her to open her eyes and look at him once. He didn’t wish for a second chance, only that she could wake up so he could make it up to her and protect her properly. When visiting time was up, Lu Chang reluctantly kissed Jian Mingshu on the forehead and left in a hurry.
In her dream, Jian Mingshu once again encountered the man in green robes and even became physically intimate with him. The next day, Jian Mingshu woke up and saw Song Qingzhao sleeping by her bedside. She asked if he had been the one caring for her all along and mistook him for the man in her dream. Minister Lu was shocked to hear that Lu Chang had been framed and imprisoned.
After returning to Liangzhou Prefecture, Lu Chang was subjected to severe punishment by Prefect Jia. He tightly held Jian Mingshu’s sachet, unable to ignore his feelings for her. Minister Lu arrived in time to save Lu Chang, saying he had been impressed by him last time and thus decided to help. Lu Chang repeatedly thanked him. Minister Lu warned him that he had already made enemies in the capital and must tread carefully going forward. After a review by the Ministry of Justice, Lu Chang was declared innocent.
