In the prison visitation room, a man happily tells his wife that he's about to be released and come home, crediting it to his good behavior in prison. He’s even planning to go back to farming watermelons. However, his wife reveals she has sold the house and plans to move with their son, Xiaolong, to Jialing. Because of having a father who’s a murderer, Xiaolong is constantly looked down upon by others—they’ve decided to leave for good this time.

Li Shiqing and Xiao Heyun arrive at the police station. Zhang Cheng questions her about why she suddenly got off the bus. Li Shiqing explains that it was due to an argument with Lu Di after her boyfriend’s backpack was stolen, but her story is full of inconsistencies. Xiao Heyun intentionally mentions the two men carrying luggage and a watermelon as suspicious. Under Li Shiqing’s identification, the man carrying the watermelon, named Ma Guoqiang, comes under police scrutiny.

Although all three of them cooperate actively, Zhang Cheng finds it suspicious that they can describe the situation on the bus in such detail. He decides to release Li Shiqing for now, while keeping Xiao Heyun and Lu Di for further questioning. As she walks through the hallway, Li Shiqing is emotionally affected by the grief of the victims' families.

Overhearing the police questioning Ma Guoqiang’s ex-wife, she pretends to wait for her boyfriend, hoping to gather more information about the passengers. Ma Guoqiang was previously imprisoned for a hit-and-run. After early release, he returned to farming. Zhang Cheng questions his son Xiaolong, who says they haven’t seen each other in years. The victim of the hit-and-run was Xiaolong’s classmate, and it’s been his mother and himself paying the compensation.

When Zhang Cheng asks whether the victim’s family holds a grudge, Xiaolong denies it, but he starts having doubts internally. Li Shiqing tries unsuccessfully to speak with Ma Guoqiang’s ex-wife. She overhears Xiaolong talking to his mother about the debt and the case involving a life. His mother gets very agitated—if this tragedy really happened because of revenge, then it’s a grave sin. Li Shiqing follows the weary Xiaolong out of the station.

When she learns that he feels guilty for his father going alone to find him, she realizes that Xiaolong’s fear and hesitation indirectly led to this tragedy. After seven years in prison, his father had become disconnected from society. Lu Di’s mother reads what he wrote and rushes to the police station in a panic. She tells the police that he’s been manipulated into trying to stop a bombing.

Hearing this, Zhang Cheng immediately arranges to bring back and interrogate Li Shiqing and Xiao Heyun separately. Pressured by his mother’s persistent questioning, Lu Di finally breaks down, saying he feels it’s his destiny to have been chosen. His father, understanding his inner torment, tells his wife to leave the room and comforts Lu Di, advising him to cooperate with the police.

The three finally reveal the truth about the time loop, but the police don’t believe a word of it. As the clock strikes twelve and everything resets again, Xiao Heyun and Li Shiqing wake up on the bus, realizing that Lu Di’s suicide note has caused all the trouble. Li Shiqing tells Xiao Heyun about Ma Guoqiang’s past. Xiao Heyun tries to check the bag by his feet, but Ma Guoqiang is too cautious.

Left with no choice, the two pin their hopes on Lu Di, only to find he hasn’t entered the loop this time. With no other option, they investigate on their own. Xiao Heyun pretends to argue and crushes two watermelons in the process. Ma Guoqiang, worried about the melons, shoves him away and instinctively raises his hands in fear. After everyone calms him down, he looks at the crushed melons with sorrow.

Thinking quickly, Li Shiqing tells Ma Guoqiang she is Xiaolong’s coworker and has seen his photo. She says Xiaolong wanted to visit him during the New Year. Ma Guoqiang explains that a relative saw Xiaolong’s post about wanting to eat his father’s watermelon, so he carried the melons all this way. He gratefully shares the broken watermelon with Li Shiqing and the passengers.

Before the familiar ringtone of the old phone rings again, Li Shiqing quickly relays Xiaolong’s words to Ma Guoqiang. The explosion happens, and the loop restarts. Now, only two suspicious passengers remain—both of whom boarded at the same stop.
