Yuan Song sighed heavily, not expecting Meng Feng's story to be so tragic. Meng Feng said these things because she wanted Yuan Song to persevere like her; only by letting go of the past can one embrace the future. While speaking, the scarecrow was ready. Yuan Song inserted two red dates for its eyes. From then on, he would be the scarecrow of Meilin Pass, devoted to guarding Meilin Pass.

Yuwen Yue had always sent Meng Feng and others to secretly observe the Xiuli Army. Although Meng Feng couldn't discern Mister's intentions, she diligently led people to observe from the shadows. Cheng Yuan arrived at the Xiuli Army's station with a large contingent of soldiers, clearly intending trouble. As expected, he brought Yan Xun's hand order, instructing the Xiuli Army to guard the Xiuli Mountains. The news came suddenly. He Xiao asked Chu Qiao if she knew about it.

Cheng Yuan sneered repeatedly, telling He Xiao to see clearly that this was Yan Xun's hand order. Chu Qiao was merely a subordinate of His Highness; what did it matter if she knew or not? Cheng Yuan mockingly told He Xiao that once the Xiuli Army reached the Xiuli Mountains, they would be integrated into the local garrison and have their designation removed.

As if that wasn't enough, he ordered his subordinate Jiang Teng to immediately take down the Xiuli Army's army flag, claiming that this flag was the Xiuli Army's greatest disgrace. Although the army flag was just a flag, it was the soul of the Xiuli Army. He Xiao, of course, would not let Cheng Yuan touch their army flag like that. He Xiao and Cheng Yuan each held one side of the army flag, refusing to yield.

In a fit of anger, Cheng Yuan cut the army flag into two halves with a sword. This was too much. He Xiao and the Xiuli Army soldiers could no longer restrain themselves and began fighting with Cheng Yuan's men. At this moment, Yan Xun was meeting Zhong Yu. Yan Xun had arrested Mister Wu on charges of disturbing military morale, and Zhong Yu came to plead for him after receiving the news.

To prepare for war, Yan Xun had been collecting grain everywhere. However, Blue City suffered a major flood this year, and that grain was the people's life-saving food. Wu Daoya, being benevolent and kind-hearted, stopped collecting grain because he could not bear to see the common people suffer. Zhong Yu mentioned that Wu Daoya and the Old Marquis Yan Shicheng were old acquaintances, and that Wu Daoya had devoted himself wholeheartedly to Northern Yan over the years.

Zhong Yu mentioned these things hoping that Yan Xun would consider their past relationship and let Wu Daoya go. Upon hearing this, Yan Xun told Zhong Yu to take Wu Daoya and leave Northern Yan, never to return. Suddenly, Cheng Yuan brought people in to report.

Cheng Yuan vehemently claimed that the Xiuli Army had rebelled; when he went to deliver orders, not only did the Xiuli Army refuse to obey, but they also continued to revere Chu Qiao and even fought with his men. Yan Xun was already displeased with the Xiuli Army; if not for Chu Qiao, he would not have kept them until now. At this moment, the Xiuli Army openly defied his orders, which made Yan Xun very unhappy.

On the training ground, a fine drizzle fell. Yan Xun sat in a high position and had all the Xiuli Army soldiers who conflicted with Cheng Yuan arrested. He Xiao tried his best to explain what had just happened, but Yan Xun was determined to convict them; the truth of the matter was simply not important.

Chu Qiao was recuperating in her room when suddenly Du Ping'an came over with a note, saying that a Mister had sent someone to deliver it. Chu Qiao opened it and saw that Yuwen Yue was informing her that the Xiuli Army was in trouble and asking her to go rescue them. Chu Qiao hurried there. When the Xiuli Army saw her arrive, they seemed to see hope.

To everyone's surprise, Chu Qiao dismounted and quickly walked towards He Xiao, suddenly slapping him hard across the face. She claimed that she had only told him to preserve the Xiuli Army's designation and army flag, and questioned how he had handled things, even getting into a conflict with His Highness's men. Chu Qiao appeared to be scolding He Xiao for his incompetence, but in reality, she was taking all the blame for the Xiuli Army onto herself.

Chu Qiao advised Yan Xun that the Xiuli Army had no intention to offend, nor any intention to rebel; they were merely following her orders. Cheng Yuan seized upon a loophole in Chu Qiao's words and instigated trouble, asking what orders the Xiuli Army was following, since Chu Qiao held no position in the military. Chu Qiao sternly told Cheng Yuan to shut up, staring directly at Yan Xun, waiting to see what he would say.

Yan Xun told Chu Qiao to ask herself whether the Xiuli Army was loyal to him or to her, Mister Chu. Chu Qiao insisted that the Xiuli Army's loyalty to Northern Yan was witnessed by heaven and earth. But Yan Xun's mind was made up; no matter what she said, he would punish the Xiuli Army.

A Jing, seeing Chu Qiao isolated and helpless, and feeling that the Xiuli Army did not deserve such punishment, intended to plead for them but was pulled back by Zhong Yu. In this situation, saying more would only cause Yan Xun's displeasure. Those in the Xiuli Army who had conflicted with Cheng Yuan were all subjected to military law. Chu Qiao, seeing her brothers suffer such injustice, was consumed with anxiety.

She suddenly knelt on the ground, begging Yan Xun to retract his order. Yan Xun not only remained unmoved but also intended to punish He Xiao for mismanagement. Chu Qiao was powerless to change anything. She stood up and rode away, taking one last look at Yan Xun before leaving. This cruel and violent man was no longer the Yan Xun she knew. Chu Qiao left. Cheng Yuan breathed a huge sigh of relief.

What he feared most when framing the Xiuli Army was that Yan Xun would soften when Chu Qiao stood up for them. After Chu Qiao returned, she stayed silently in her room. That night, Yan Xun came and spoke to her from outside the door. He told Chu Qiao that he did all of this only to give her the world. Although she might not necessarily want it, he just wanted to give her the best.

Moreover, he was already alone; Chu Qiao must not leave him. Yan Xun never entered the room from beginning to end. Upon hearing this, Chu Qiao felt a desolate sadness in her heart. She knew that she and Yan Xun could never go back to the past. Yan Xun then went to warn Cheng Yuan. Although he had granted Cheng Yuan's wish today, it did not mean he was unaware of the truth.

Yan Xun knew that Cheng Yuan was targeting Chu Qiao and specifically came to warn him not to interfere in Chu Qiao's affairs anymore. Cheng Yuan bowed in assent, but before Yan Xun left, he couldn't help but call out to him, saying that everyone in the army was saying Yan Xun was foolish for giving up a great empire that was within his grasp for Chu Qiao, and that he wouldn't even have a good death in the afterlife.

Upon hearing this, Yan Xun stopped. If one couldn't live well, why would they care about death? Yuwen Yue learned the full details of the Xiuli Army incident from Meng Feng, his brows slightly furrowed. He knew Chu Qiao must be heartbroken. Seeing Mister so worried, Meng Feng asked him why he didn't take Chu Qiao away. Yuwen Yue certainly wanted to do so, but he feared Chu Qiao would be unwilling.

Thinking this, he couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed: she was so heartbroken, so why wouldn't she leave? Yuwen Yue received a letter from Yuan Che, stating that he had already persuaded the Emperor to consider the common people and the state and bring about a cessation of war. Additionally, the Emperor intended to grant Yuan Chun death, but Yuan Che, remembering their sibling bond, did not want to see her come to such a plight.

In Chang'an City, the Emperor granted Yuan Chun a cup of poisoned wine. Yuan Chun sat before the mirror, neatly dressing her hair. She was a Great Wei imperial princess; she would die with dignity. In her hand, she held the rabbit tail Yan Xun had once given her, gently stroking it.
