> Princess Agents Recap

Chu Qiao awoke from a nightmare, shivering from the cold and reliving fragments of a past where someone named Yuwen Hao wanted to kill her. Her eldest sister, Zhixiang, and younger sister, Xiaoba, tried to comfort her. Soon, Madame Song appeared, scolding them for being lazy. She accused them of stealing Chief Butler Zhu's medicine burner, but Zhixiang insisted it had been given for Chu Qiao.

When Madame Song attempted to strike Zhixiang, Chu Qiao intervened, causing Madame Song to hit herself and develop a swollen leg. Chu Qiao, despite her own injuries, offered to call a doctor, further infuriating Madame Song. Zhixiang later warned Chu Qiao about the dangers of Yuwen Manor, explaining that slaves could be executed for a hundred reasons, and mentioning the infamous Bliss Chamber where many maids had died.

She emphasized the importance of enduring hardship, revealing that their older brother Linxi had gone to ask Mister Yue for help and that their younger sister Xiaoqi would soon return. Zhixiang stressed that as long as they remained together, they could face any challenge. Meanwhile, at a gathering, Princess Chun arrived, a lively and straightforward young woman who playfully insulted the assembled noblemen, including her own brother, Prince Yu.

She even called them "pigs" except for Heir Apparent Yan Xun, whom she openly admired. Princess Chun had brought a rare jar of Jade Wine, the prize from the human hunting grounds competition, a wine personally brewed by the Marquis Northen Settler for Madame Bai Sheng, with only one jar left in the world. She proposed keeping it for Yan Xun's upcoming birthday, offering to host the celebration herself.

However, Yan Xun informed her that Yuwen Yue had already promised to host his birthday party. Still suffering from injuries, Chu Qiao was forced to work by Madame Song. When Zhixiang pleaded for more rest for her sister, Madame Song scoffed, asserting that anyone who could crawl in Yuwen Manor had to work. Chief Butler Zhu then arrived, announcing that Yuwen Yue would be hosting Heir Apparent Yan Xun's birthday party in the gardens for the royals and nobles.

He sternly warned that any mistake would result in their deaths. Madame Song assigned Chu Qiao to move flowers, but Chief Butler Zhu detained Zhixiang, implying he had been lenient with Chu Qiao and now expected Zhixiang to repay him. Just as he was about to make a move, Chu Qiao interrupted, asking Zhixiang about the orchid's location, allowing Zhixiang to slip away.

Chu Qiao later learned from Zhixiang that Chief Butler Zhu was backed by Yuwen Huai, a powerful figure in the manor who could easily crush them. Zhixiang warned Chu Qiao that any retaliation would bring disaster upon their entire family. Not far from Qingshan House, a black-robed man launched an arrow into a window. Inside, Yuwen Yue saw the copper crane on his table open its mouth, signaling a message.

He retrieved a box of arrows from a secret chamber, which were part of the Spy Network of Heavenly Eyes, a powerful intelligence gathering tool. Yuwen Yue's grandfather explained that due to his own illness, their branch, House One, was not favored by the Emperor, while House Three's Hongshan House was trusted due to their numbers. He lamented that the Spy Network of Heavenly Eyes, without imperial backing, was like a "sword in its sheath," useless.

He entrusted Yuwen Yue with the heavy responsibility of revitalizing it, and Yuwen Yue solemnly promised to fulfill his grandfather's wishes. Later, at Heir Apparent Yan Xun's birthday banquet in Yuwen Manor, amidst music and feasting, Chu Qiao and other low-ranking slaves wearing iron bells were forced to serve, even acting as "human footstools" for the nobles.

Zhixiang strictly cautioned Chu Qiao to keep her head down and not make a sound, warning that even a loud breath could lead to ten lashes. Princess Chun, upon arrival, immediately summoned Chu Qiao to be her footstool. During the banquet, Yuwen Huai secretly instructed Jin Zhu, his spy, to put "Cold-Spreading Powder" in Yuwen Yue's wine. Chu Qiao observed this clandestine exchange. Zhixiang was assigned to serve Yuwen Yue. Sensing something amiss, Yuwen Yue refused to drink.

Yuwen Huai then mockingly suggested an ancient custom: if the guest refused wine, the beautiful maiden serving would be killed. Despite Zhixiang's desperate pleas, Yuwen Yue still hesitated. Unable to bear watching her sister become a pawn in their schemes, Chu Qiao purposely bumped into the table, spilling the wine and drawing everyone's attention. She then pleaded with the lords to spare her sister and offered to take the punishment in her place. Enraged, Yuwen Huai ordered her killed.

Yan Xun intervened, stating that as it was his birthday, he did not wish for bloodshed. However, Yuwen Huai insisted that Yuwen Manor's rules could not be broken. Yan Xun then proposed a game of chance to decide Chu Qiao's fate. He tossed his waist token, which had a dragon pattern on one side and a seal character on the other, asking Chu Qiao to guess which side would land face up.

Understanding Yan Xun's subtle hint, Chu Qiao correctly guessed the dragon pattern, narrowly escaping death, though still facing severe punishment. That evening, Chu Qiao was found hanging upside down from a tree. Yuwen Yue arrived with his men and released her, but not without a cold taunt about her stupidity for causing trouble without the ability to escape unscathed. Back in the woodshed, an ailing Chu Qiao was carried in by Linxi.

Madame Song appeared, gloating that Chu Qiao had offended Yuwen Huai and would soon be sent to the Bliss Chamber "to enjoy life," a place notorious for maids meeting horrific ends. The Jing siblings were distraught, scrambling to find a way to save Chu Qiao. Unbeknownst to them, Jin Zhu, Yuwen Huai's informant in Qingshan House, was instructed by Chief Butler Zhu to poison Yuwen Yue's grandfather.

Zhu Shun explained that Yuwen Huai couldn't easily harm Yuwen Yue directly, so he aimed to kill the old master first. Jin Zhu was given the "Thousand-Soul-Killing Powder," a poison that caused rapid death. She then pretended to help Linxi by offering him an exit pass for Chu Qiao, convincing him to present a new set of "tokens" to the Old Master as a gift from Jin Zhu. Linxi, seeking to repay Jin Zhu for helping Chu Qiao, innocently complied.

Yuwen Yue's unsuspecting grandfather, the Old Master of Qingshan House, played with the poisoned tokens and quickly succumbed to the "Thousand-Soul-Killing Powder," bleeding from his orifices. Meanwhile, Chu Qiao, having managed to escape the manor with the help of her sisters, overheard Chief Butler Zhu and Jin Zhu discussing Linxi's imminent danger. Realizing her older brother was in trouble, she immediately returned to Yuwen Manor.

To her horror, she witnessed Yuwen Yue accusing Linxi of poisoning his grandfather and then personally killing him, kicking his body into a burning pile. Chu Qiao rushed forward to save Linxi but was struck in the calf by a stone kicked by Yuwen Yue, falling to the ground and being apprehended by guards. Heartbroken, Chu Qiao tearfully accused Yuwen Yue of arbitrarily killing an innocent person, insisting her brother was not a spy.

Yuwen Yue coldly retorted that in this world, the strong prevail, and one must become strong to avoid being trampled. As a poisonous spider crawled onto Chu Qiao's arm, Yuwen Yue swiftly swung his sword, killing the spider but also cutting Chu Qiao's arm. He offered no explanation, merely stating that it was her "deserved retribution" before turning and walking away. Back in the woodshed, a wounded Chu Qiao delivered the devastating news of Linxi's death to her sisters.

Xiaoba, overcome with grief, lashed out, blaming Chu Qiao for being a jinx who had brought death to their family. Zhixiang immediately defended Chu Qiao, leading to a sorrowful argument between the sisters as their shared grief and helplessness engulfed them. Shortly after, Chief Butler Zhu, in high spirits, reported the Old Master's death to Yuwen Huai. However, Yuwen Huai expressed dissatisfaction at not seeing the body himself and declared his intention to personally visit Qingshan House.
