New Life Begins Episode 8 Recap
> New Life Begins Recap
Shangguan Yan actually wanted him to marry into Daichuan. Yin Zheng, after much thought, still couldn’t understand her intentions, so he claimed that he was already engaged. But Shangguan Yan already knew the engagement between Yin Zheng and Li Wei was merely a formality, with no real marital affection between them. Hearing this, Yin Zheng suddenly felt lost, staring blankly at Li Wei. Li Wei didn’t know how to face Yin Zheng and could only lower her head in silence.
Yin Zheng let out a heavy sigh, then took Li Wei’s hand and walked to the front, publicly declaring that he liked Li Wei and begged Shangguan Yan not to force them. Li Wei quickly echoed him, saying she was willing to continue being with Yin Zheng and pleaded with Shangguan Yan for mercy. Shangguan Jing walked in from outside, breaking the slightly awkward atmosphere. She told her sister that she was willing to return to Xinchuan with Yin Qi.
But Shangguan Yan was still worried that Shangguan Jing was only returning for Daichuan’s sake, not for her own. After some thought, Shangguan Yan gave Yin Qi one last test: if he could make Shangguan Jing laugh, she would allow them to return. On the way back, Yin Qi was puzzled about how to bring back Shangguan Jing’s smile. He turned around hoping to get some insight from Yin Zheng, only to see that they were still holding hands.
Li Wei belatedly realized and quickly let go, explaining that she had acted out of desperation and knew that what Yin Zheng said back then was just a stopgap measure. Hearing this, Yin Zheng was both angry and anxious, but didn’t know what to say. For this final test, Yin Qi lost his appetite and went out to seek advice from Daichuan men.
But after only a short time learning face-changing from a master, he was already complaining and trying to flee. Yin Zheng defended him verbally but closed the door with his hands, ensuring Yin Qi couldn’t escape. That day, Jade Bottle and Jade Cup brought Shangguan Jing to the hall, wanting her to watch Yin Qi’s face-changing performance. Clumsy as ever, Yin Qi didn’t win any applause from Shangguan Jing.
Left with no choice, he stepped forward and held her hand, saying he remembered every word she had ever said. Shangguan Jing was touched and couldn’t help but smile. Shangguan Yan held a banquet to bid farewell to everyone, but to her surprise, Yin Zheng got thoroughly drunk. The night was quiet, with moonlight dancing on the water. Li Wei and Yin Zheng sat side by side on the bed, seemingly deep in conversation.
To Li Wei, their marriage had indeed been forced from the beginning, and now she couldn’t quite explain her feelings. She always felt that Yin Zheng was just her employer. Yin Zheng, flushed from the alcohol, looked a bit unhappy, thinking Li Wei disliked him. Li Wei quickly explained that she had never disliked him. Yin Zheng turned his head, gazing at Li Wei, and asked if she might like him, even just a little.
He looked at her full of hope, but all he heard in return was, “I’m not sure. ” Perhaps it was the hazy night or the wine, but Yin Zheng couldn’t help leaning in to kiss Li Wei. The next morning, Li Wei felt extremely awkward upon seeing Yin Zheng, but to her surprise, Yin Zheng had completely forgotten what had happened the night before. Li Wei began to doubt whether it had all been a dream.
After returning to Xinchuan, Li Wei couldn’t help but recall that night. She was dazed all day, unable to figure out if it had really happened or was just a dream. Maybe the memory of that night was too vivid. Every time she saw Yin Zheng, she felt uneasy and tried her best to avoid him.
Lord Jinchuan urged repayment of a loan, but the tax silver had all been sent to Daichuan for disaster relief, leaving the treasury empty for the time being. After some thought, Yin Zheng figured they might be able to recover some old debts. Meanwhile, Yin Song thought of Zhao Fangru’s family property and even considered making a move without informing the lord in advance.
