Always on the Move Episode 38 Recap
> Always on the Move Recap
Ma Kui and Wang Xin escorted Liu Guiying back towards Ningyang. An old man, recognizing her by a distinctive smell, became agitated, identifying her as the human trafficker who had kidnapped his two-year-old daughter in the fall of 1963 at the Ningyang Train Station. He described his daughter with a ponytail tied with a red scrunchie and wearing a pink dress, desperately pleading with Liu Guiying for information.
Pressured to confess, Liu Guiying admitted she was being watched by police that day and, scared, she left the child on the platform. The old man was distraught, repeatedly asking which platform and if his daughter was alive. Overcome with emotion, he fainted. It was New Year's Eve. Ma Yan brought new clothes for Wang Yongge. Wang Yongge, noting the festive season, told Ma Yan that a home needed a woman's touch and asked if she was seeing anyone.
He also inquired about her godmother and suggested bringing her back, but Ma Yan explained her godmother couldn't come because her father was suffering from kidney failure and required weekly dialysis treatments, which he refused to have done elsewhere. Meanwhile, Ma Kui and Ma Jian were making dumplings. Ma Yan arrived with the new clothes for both of them.
Ma Kui had also prepared new clothes and red envelopes for Ma Yan and Ma Jian, telling them they would always be his children. Ma Yan relayed Wang Yongge's invitation for them to come over for dumplings. Ma Kui suggested they have dinner at his place instead, inviting Wang Xin and Wang Yongge to join them. Ma Yan agreed to go fetch them.
On New Year's Day morning, Ma Kui woke Wang Xin early, informing him they had to go to Hacheng for a case immediately. They boarded the train, where the crew members, Cai Xiaonian, Hu, and Lu Hongxing, were also working during the holiday. They shared dumplings on the train. Cai Xiaonian gave an elaborate New Year's toast wishing everyone success and happiness.
Later, Ma Kui brought dumplings, Baijiu, and other dishes to the old blind man still living on the train. He offered him a new jacket, which the old man was surprised and pleased to receive, noting he hadn't worn new clothes in over thirty years. Ma Kui encouraged the old man to get off the train now that the trafficker was caught, but the old man insisted he felt safer there and was still determined to find his daughter.
Ma Kui gave him a business card for his friend, Niu Dali, suggesting he contact him to arrange a place in a nursing home, but the old man refused, saying he was fine living on the train with Ma Kui taking care of him. Ma Kui urged him to think about his future. In Hacheng, Ma Kui and Wang Xin met with Detective Gu from the local police bureau. Gu explained they had recently arrested another drug dealer.
However, shortly after, the dealer had a seizure (epilepsy), became unconscious, and was hospitalized in the People's Hospital under police guard. The dealer had only managed to say his supplier was local. Gu was cautious, advising Ma Kui and Wang Xin not to visit the hospital as it might worsen the dealer's condition and expressing concern about alarming the supplier. Wang Xin worried the dealer might be silenced, recalling the case of Bao Jiashun.
Gu assured them the hospital was secure and they should wait for updates. Ma Kui and Wang Xin went to find a place to eat and unexpectedly encountered Jia Jinlong. Yao Yuling arrived to pick him up, revealing to Ma Kui and Wang Xin that she and Jia Jinlong were married and had a son. Jia Jinlong claimed he fell for Yao Yuling at first sight in Ningyang. Yao Yuling explained she hadn't told them to avoid gossip.
Ma Kui then suddenly mentioned he had forgotten to pick up a file from the police station and asked Jia Jinlong for a ride. At the police station, they found it empty due to the holiday. Jia Jinlong insisted on hosting them for dinner and drinks at his establishment, the Ling Ballroom. At the Ling Ballroom, Jia Jinlong hosted Ma Kui and Wang Xin, joined by some of his men. Ma Kui drank heavily and appeared intoxicated.
Jia Jinlong asked about their case. Despite appearing drunk, Ma Kui revealed they had caught a drug dealer who had epilepsy and was hospitalized, adding that they suspected a bigger ringleader was involved. He deliberately mentioned the dealer was in the People's Hospital and made eye contact with Wang Xin. Understanding the signal, Wang Xin excused himself to make a phone call using Ma Kui's phone, telling Ma Kui he would greet Ma Yan.
Later, after Jia Jinlong had dropped them off at their hotel, Ma Kui immediately became alert once Jia Jinlong drove away. He explained to Wang Xin that he had detected a unique smell in Jia Jinlong's car, the same smell he had previously encountered on Hou Sanjin and Bao Jiashun. He noticed the same scent on Jia Jinlong's men at the KTV, confirming his suspicion that they were part of the same group involved in the drug case.
He explained that his visit to the empty police station and revealing the dealer's location in the hospital was a ruse to provoke Jia Jinlong. Wang Xin admitted he was initially confused by Ma Kui's behavior but understood the signal. He confirmed he had contacted Detective Gu, who had deployed officers to the hospital. Wang Xin also confirmed he had deleted the call record.
Ma Kui praised Wang Xin's growing skills, joking that he had learned well from him and the old blind man's ability to identify people by smell. True to their suspicions, Jia Jinlong sent men to the People's Hospital to silence the drug dealer. However, police who were lying in wait ambushed them.
Two of Jia Jinlong's men were arrested immediately; Gu described them as having buzz cuts, one with an "love" tattoo and the other with a "tolerance" tattoo, which Ma Kui recognized as the men from the KTV, confirming Jia Jinlong was likely their boss. Two other men escaped. Gu contacted Ma Kui and Wang Xin, and they rushed to the Ling Ballroom. Wang Xin asked Yao Yuling to call Jia Jinlong, but his phone was off.
Police took Yao Yuling in for questioning. Despite searching several locations, police could not find Jia Jinlong. Gu speculated he had only one route left. Having seen the police surround the Ling Ballroom, Jia Jinlong and the two men who escaped the hospital ambush disguised themselves and boarded the train bound for Ningyang from Hacheng. Ma Kui and Wang Xin also boarded the same train and began searching the carriages. They soon located Jia Jinlong and his men.
Confronted, Jia Jinlong grabbed a young girl sitting nearby and took her hostage, while his men seized other passengers. Ma Kui urged Jia Jinlong to release the hostages and surrender, pointing out they were surrounded. Jia Jinlong retorted that he could use the hostages to ensure his escape. Ma Kui offered to exchange himself for the hostages. Wang Xin stepped forward, volunteering to swap places with the hostages, appealing to Jia Jinlong based on their past connection.
Jia Jinlong agreed, noting Wang Xin's higher value. Wang Xin removed his jacket and threw his pistol onto the floor before joining Jia Jinlong. Jia Jinlong then ordered his men to release the other passengers.
