My True Friend Episode 28 Recap
> My True Friend Recap
Zhen Zhen's mother sincerely advised her about her relationship with Jing Ran, emphasizing that marriage is not just between two people but two families and that there is no turning back once a decision is made. She also highlighted the perennial challenge of the mother-in-law relationship, urging Zhen Zhen to understand Bai Auntie's temperament and personality. Zhen Zhen assured her mother that she would consider everything carefully, as her father captured the moment with a photograph.
The next day, her parents departed from Shanghai. Meanwhile, Tian Geng and Qian Qian were at their newly renovated home with their mothers, admiring the transformation and the environmentally friendly air purification system. However, disaster struck when Tian Geng's mother fell from a chair while cleaning and was rushed to the ICU with a severe head injury. Tian Geng, distraught, quickly went to the real estate agency to inform Zhen Zhen and Shao Pengcheng.
He urgently requested them to sell the house as quickly as possible, explaining that his family had spent all their savings on the renovation and now desperately needed funds for his mother's medical expenses. Zhen Zhen and Shao Pengcheng expressed their willingness to help, with Shao Pengcheng noting that the newly renovated house should fetch a good price.
As Tian Geng hurried back to the hospital, the colleagues at the agency discussed the unfortunate turn of events, agreeing that life always takes precedence over material possessions like a house. At the hospital, Qian Qian's mother blamed herself for the accident. Tian Geng tried to reassure her, saying it was no one's fault, but rather a consequence of them letting an elderly person clean.
Qian Qian, feeling suffocated by the atmosphere, stepped out for air, which Tian Geng perceived as indifference, leading to a brief argument. Tian Geng also wondered if there were other ways to raise money, but quickly concluded that the house was their only option given their financial state and mortgage. Later, Qian Qian and her mother, Aunt Yu, arrived at the real estate agency, tearing down the "For Sale" sign.
Aunt Yu explained that she and Qian Qian's father were also co-owners and that the house could not be sold without her signature. She pleaded with Zhen Zhen and Shao Pengcheng not to sell the house, offering compensation for their trouble. She emphasized that she wanted Qian Qian to have a stable home and not be a lifelong renter.
Qian Qian, while wanting to save her mother-in-law, was firm in her desire to keep the house, revealing she had already borrowed money from everyone she knew. Zhen Zhen made it clear that she could not deceive Tian Geng, stating that her integrity as an agent prevented her from lying. Shao Pengcheng then used a hypothetical "trolley problem" scenario to illustrate that life should always come first. He returned the compensation money, reiterating that they could not compromise their morals.
Qian Qian acknowledged that life was most important and prepared to leave, but Aunt Yu made a final defiant statement that the house would remain unsold without her signature. Meanwhile, Jing Ran and Bai Auntie were settling into their new home. Bai Auntie was eager to move in right away, despite Jing Ran's concerns about air quality post-renovation. Bai Auntie dismissed his worries, highlighting the designer's use of safe materials and an air-purifying device.
She then announced her plans for a family celebration dinner to mark their first day in the new home and insisted that Zhen Zhen join them. Jing Ran tried to explain that Zhen Zhen was busy with client work, but Bai Auntie insisted Zhen Zhen's job was not that important, and she should eventually resign.
She urged Jing Ran to go to Zhen Zhen's agency and personally request a leave for her, emphasizing the importance of a family celebration for good luck. Back at the agency, Mei Li informed Zhen Zhen and Shao Pengcheng that her client was interested in Tian Geng's condo and she intended to show it to him. Shao Pengcheng quickly interjected, reminding her that the property had six owners and the family had not yet reached a consensus.
Mei Li, however, was adamant, believing that the house would eventually be sold due to the overwhelming medical costs and the couple's need to maintain their relationship, concluding that "life comes first." Zhen Zhen stopped Mei Li from showing the property, explaining that she and Shao Pengcheng would first speak with the clients to find a resolution. At that moment, Jing Ran arrived to pick up Zhen Zhen for the family dinner.
Zhen Zhen, apologetically, told him about the urgent client issue at the hospital and asked him to reschedule with Bai Auntie. Jing Ran expressed his frustration, stressing his mother's elaborate preparations for their first dinner in the new home. With Shao Pengcheng urging her to go, Zhen Zhen promised to join them after her work was done and then left with Shao Pengcheng for the hospital, leaving a disappointed Jing Ran behind.
Despite Zhen Zhen's intervention, Mei Li proceeded to show the condo to her client, who was very impressed by its smart design and efficient use of space. At the hospital, Shao Pengcheng and Zhen Zhen met Tian Geng, who again pressed them to sell the house urgently. Shao Pengcheng explained that the property's certificate of ownership listed six names, requiring the unanimous consent of all owners before it could be sold.
Tian Geng confidently stated that all six had agreed, but Zhen Zhen's conflicted expression prompted his suspicion. Tian Geng's father-in-law then unexpectedly spoke up, vehemently opposing the sale, claiming that they were already pooling money from relatives and friends to cover the medical costs. This ignited a heated argument with Tian Geng's father, who criticized their in-laws for being inhumane and warned about the crushing financial burden of medical bills, credit card debts, and mortgage payments.
Amidst the escalating conflict, Tian Geng grew angry at Qian Qian for casually eating an orange, snatching and smashing it on the ground. Qian Qian's father immediately leaped to her defense, scolding Tian Geng. Overwhelmed, Qian Qian tearfully made a shocking announcement: she was pregnant. Back at Jing Ran's new house, Bai Auntie was furious that Zhen Zhen had not come for dinner, accusing her of "putting on airs" and prioritizing work over family.
Jing Ran tried to defend Zhen Zhen, explaining the client's critical situation and affirming Zhen Zhen's dedication to her clients. However, Bai Auntie continued to lament, comparing Zhen Zhen's attentiveness as an agent to her current perceived neglect as a girlfriend. Frustrated, Jing Ran raised his voice, telling his mother to stop.
This unprecedented outburst left Bai Auntie deeply hurt; she angrily retorted that he had never yelled at her before and accused him of siding with his girlfriend, before retreating to her room. In the hospital corridor, Qian Qian explained her decision not to sell the house, stating her desire to provide a stable home for her unborn child and avoid a life of renting or having to return to their hometown for schooling.
Tian Geng was torn between his mother's life and his child's future. Shao Pengcheng gently tried to persuade Qian Qian, suggesting that renting was a common and happy choice for many young people and that keeping the family united was most important. Qian Qian, however, emotionally dismissed his advice, arguing that he couldn't understand her feelings as a mother without being married or having children himself.
She passionately reiterated her longing for a secure home for her child, proclaiming that she couldn't cope with living in the city without a house. Zhen Zhen attempted to calm her, promising to find another solution. Witnessing the family's deep divisions, Tian Geng ultimately informed Zhen Zhen and Shao Pengcheng that the family needed more time to discuss and would provide a unified answer later, asking them to leave for the day.
