My True Friend Episode 19 Recap
> My True Friend Recap
Frustrated after her phone calls to Shao Pengcheng were repeatedly ignored, Luo Zu'er decided to find him some business. She spread the word among her friends on social media, asking anyone with buying or selling needs to contact her. Soon after, a bar owner named Mr. Lin reached out, expressing his intention to sell a house. Luo Zu'er, who had recently been involved in a traffic incident, quickly agreed to help him.
Mr. Lin, who was in debt for over 600,000 yuan and needed funds to expand his bar, saw Luo Zu'er's post and decided to sell his apartment. Upon her visit to his bar, he initially tried to convince Luo Zu'er to invest in his business, but she firmly stated that her father had advised her against investing in men.
Mr. Lin then shifted focus back to selling his house, which pleased Luo Zu'er, who then spent 50,000 yuan at his bar as a gesture of gratitude. The next morning, Luo Zu'er enthusiastically brought Mr. Lin to the Flower Garden store, specifically requesting Shao Pengcheng to assist him. Shao Pengcheng, still wary of Luo Zu'er's past antics, particularly with Mrs. Bai's house, questioned her reliability.
Cheng Zhen Zhen, however, reminded him that it was a business opportunity and politely asked Mr. Lin and Luo Zu'er to sit. Luo Zu'er insisted that the business was for Shao Pengcheng alone, but Shao Pengcheng firmly stated that he and Cheng Zhen Zhen were partners, suggesting Mr. Lin could go to another agency if he disagreed.
Mr. Lin then described his two-bedroom apartment in the Minhang District, mentioning it was nicely decorated and that he needed to sell it quickly to fund his bar expansion, implying he would accept a lower-than-market price. Zeng Huimin, the agency manager, offered to accompany Shao Pengcheng and Cheng Zhen Zhen to view the property. Mr. Lin then drove Zeng Huimin and Luo Zu'er to the apartment, while Shao Pengcheng and Cheng Zhen Zhen took a bus.
On the way, Zeng Huimin received a call from an investor, asking her to slowly sell off her financial products, indicating her own urgent need for money, which Mr. Lin subtly observed. Luo Zu'er, still annoyed that Shao Pengcheng wasn't riding with her, blamed Cheng Zhen Zhen. On the bus, Cheng Zhen Zhen suggested that Luo Zu'er had good intentions, but Shao Pengcheng remained unconvinced about her reliability.
Luo Zu'er waited downstairs for Shao Pengcheng, proclaiming him as her "future boyfriend," much to Cheng Zhen Zhen's embarrassment, who then went inside. Shao Pengcheng, upon arriving, told Luo Zu'er to stop. Inside Mr. Lin's apartment, Zeng Huimin noticed numerous music posters and CDs. While Mr. Lin was getting water, she played a CD, which he revealed was his favorite song. Shao Pengcheng, exploring the apartment, found books on gambling and gambling chips on a bookshelf.
He discreetly informed Cheng Zhen Zhen that Mr. Lin "isn't that simple." Later that evening at the Flower Garden store, Zeng Huimin instructed Cheng Zhen Zhen to remove Mr. Lin's apartment listing from the website, announcing her intention to buy it herself. She also arranged for the commission to be credited to Shao Pengcheng and Cheng Zhen Zhen's performance. Cheng Zhen Zhen admired Zeng Huimin's independence, hoping to achieve the same someday.
However, Mei Li expressed her displeasure, complaining that Zeng Huimin was unfairly favoring Shao Pengcheng and Cheng Zhen Zhen by buying their listing. Zeng Huimin then asked Cheng Zhen Zhen to call Mr. Lin, who agreed to come to the office the next day to sign the letter of intent. The following day, Zeng Huimin and Mr. Lin signed the letter of intent, and she immediately transferred a 100,000 yuan down payment.
Just then, a man who had previously been on a blind date with Zeng Huimin stormed into the store, directly confronting her in her office. He began to loudly insult her, claiming she was unmarriageable. Mr. Lin intervened, inadvertently mentioning that Zeng Huimin was buying a house, which further enraged the man. Shao Pengcheng, along with other colleagues, stepped in to remove the disruptive man from the store. Shortly after, Zeng Huimin's parents arrived.
Her father immediately slapped her, vehemently scolding her for buying a house for herself when her 30-year-old brother was still single and unable to afford a home. He accused her of being heartless and ungrateful, reminding her of the sacrifices they made to raise her. Despite attempts by Cheng Zhen Zhen and Shao Pengcheng to mediate, her parents continued to berate Zeng Huimin, calling her an "ingrate" and expressing how she had disgraced them.
That evening, Shao Pengcheng and Cheng Zhen Zhen had dinner, discussing Zeng Huimin's difficult family situation and worrying about her. They decided to check on her. At Zeng Huimin's apartment, her parents were still pressuring her to give up buying the house and instead use her money for her brother's marriage. Zeng Huimin insisted that she had already made a deposit. Her parents argued that as a woman, she could simply marry someone who already owned a house.
Overwhelmed, Zeng Huimin confronted them, asking if they had ever shown her concern. She recounted how she worked to pay for her own college tuition and provided 200,000 yuan when they needed to build a house. She tearfully revealed that their constant demands for money had scared off her first boyfriend. Enraged, her father began to smash household items, and Zeng Huimin, losing her composure, joined him in destroying things.
Shao Pengcheng and Cheng Zhen Zhen arrived, heard the commotion, and rushed in to calm them. In a desperate act, Zeng Huimin's father then threatened to drink something and collapsed. Shao Pengcheng and Cheng Zhen Zhen immediately took him to the hospital, where they stayed with Zeng Huimin and her mother.
The next day, Zeng Huimin met Mr. Lin to inform him that she would not be purchasing his house and offered to pay the agreed-upon penalty for breaching the contract. Shao Pengcheng and Cheng Zhen Zhen tried to persuade her to reconsider, reminding her that the penalty, 100,000 yuan, was a significant amount. Zeng Huimin explained that she could not prioritize buying a house over her father's life.
Shao Pengcheng, however, warned her that constant compromise would only lead her family to further exploit her. Unexpectedly, Mr. Lin magnanimously agreed to terminate the sales agreement and return her entire deposit, citing his friendship with Luo Zu'er and, by extension, Shao Pengcheng. While Cheng Zhen Zhen found Mr. Lin's generosity commendable, Shao Pengcheng was suspicious, believing Mr. Lin had ulterior motives for giving up such a large sum and showing excessive concern for Zeng Huimin. Cheng Zhen Zhen playfully called Shao Pengcheng "two-faced" for his skepticism.
