My True Friend Episode 18 Recap
> My True Friend Recap
Cheng Zhenzhen found Xi Shan crying outside and asked her what was wrong. Xi Shan tearfully confided that she had argued with Fu Xiao Ning because she could not stand his constant subservience to Luo Zu'er. Cheng Zhenzhen tried to reassure Xi Shan, explaining that their job as real estate agents is a service industry, and from Fu Xiao Ning's past behavior, he likely had a girl he liked in his hometown.
Therefore, his efforts to please Luo Zu'er were probably motivated by a desire to earn money. Cheng Zhenzhen's words lifted Xi Shan's spirits. Later that night, Fu Xiao Ning left Luo Zu'er at a club, making sure she had a substitute driver, and rushed to meet Xi Shan. He had brought her an expensive eye cream as an apology.
He told her he was working hard to earn enough money for them to move into a better place and presented her with a ring, symbolizing "forever." Xi Shan, touched, forgave him. Meanwhile, Cheng Zhenzhen was still working overtime at the office. She called Shao Pengcheng, urging him to return to work promptly. Mei Li, unaware that Cheng Zhenzhen was still present, made a phone call in the lobby.
She argued with her father about his demand for her to find a house for a relative in Shanghai for free, without commission. Cheng Zhenzhen, overhearing the conversation, tried to avoid being noticed, but Mei Li spotted her after hanging up. Mei Li confronted Cheng Zhenzhen, warning her not to gossip about what she had heard. Later, Cheng Zhenzhen left work and found Shao Pengcheng waiting outside her home.
Without a word, he embraced her, but Cheng Zhenzhen, taken aback by his forwardness, pushed him away. He explained he was just checking if she had gotten thinner after her trip to Italy. Shao Pengcheng then awkwardly suggested they get something to eat, and Cheng Zhenzhen agreed, noting his unusually kind behavior.
Shao Pengcheng hesitantly began to tell her that he had decided to be good to her from that day forward, but before he could elaborate, thunder rumbled, and it started to rain, interrupting him. Cheng Zhenzhen, believing he had turned over a new leaf, presented him with a gift she had chosen for him in Italy.
She then happily confided that she had started dating Jing Ran, who had confessed to her in Italy and remembered her from their university days. Just then, Jing Ran called from Italy, and Cheng Zhenzhen stepped aside for a sweet conversation, leaving Shao Pengcheng heartbroken. He handed Cheng Zhenzhen his umbrella and quietly disappeared into the rain. Shao Pengcheng returned home drenched and feverish, his mind plagued by flashbacks of Jing Ran's warning and his own unconfessed feelings.
His fever climbed to 39 degrees. The next morning at the office, Mei Li showered Cheng Zhenzhen with various healthy breakfast items, much to the surprise of their colleagues and sparking a petty argument with Xi Shan, who had also brought Cheng Zhenzhen some local fried dumplings. Zeng Huimin, the Agency Manager, noticed Shao Pengcheng's absence and questioned Cheng Zhenzhen.
Cheng Zhenzhen stammered an excuse, claiming Shao Pengcheng was showing a client a property, but Zeng Huimin quickly saw through her lie and told her to sit down. Cheng Zhenzhen then called Shao Pengcheng, who, with a hoarse voice, insisted he was genuinely sick and would not be coming in.
Cheng Zhenzhen, though initially skeptical and suspecting him of laziness, began to worry when Xi Shan pointed out how despondent Shao Pengcheng had been during her absence, implying his feelings for Cheng Zhenzhen. Later that day, Cheng Zhenzhen prepared ginger soup and went to Shao Pengcheng's apartment to check on him. At his door, she unexpectedly encountered Luo Zu'er, who intercepted the ginger soup and entered Shao Pengcheng's apartment herself.
Inside, Shao Pengcheng, still unwell, recognized the thermos as Cheng Zhenzhen's and brusquely told Luo Zu'er to leave. He then called Cheng Zhenzhen, feigning extreme hunger, and convinced her to bring him some food after work. He also playfully asked for her birthday, hinting he wanted to use it as a new password for his door. After work, Cheng Zhenzhen declined Mei Li's invitation for dinner and went to Shao Pengcheng's apartment.
She brought him food and helped tidy his home. Shao Pengcheng suddenly gazed at her and quietly said he wished she would take care of him forever. Cheng Zhenzhen was stunned and tried to pull away. Sensing her discomfort, Shao Pengcheng quickly dismissed it as a joke.
Cheng Zhenzhen turned to leave but then paused, turning back to tell him seriously that she hoped he wouldn't make such jokes again, as she considered him only a partner and a younger brother. Shao Pengcheng was left feeling deeply saddened. The following day, Shao Pengcheng returned to the office, apologizing to Zeng Huimin for his absence and blaming it on his illness. He then playfully complained to Cheng Zhenzhen about her not preparing his breakfast.
Suddenly, Mei Li approached him with a bag of bird's nest and American ginseng, claiming it was for him and mentioning she had almost visited him the night before. Shao Pengcheng, clearly uncomfortable with her overt attention, quickly made his escape. Shortly after, Luo Zu'er called Shao Pengcheng, offering to help him avoid work since the company belonged to his father.
Shao Pengcheng, however, dismissed her, stating he needed to work and wasn't like the "second-generation rich" she usually associated with. In an attempt to get his attention, Luo Zu'er then stopped her car in the middle of the road to post about buying a house on social media, drawing the ire of other drivers and a traffic officer.
