Shao Pengcheng, a student in a prominent university abroad, decided to skip his examinations in New York and fly to Shanghai. Before his return, he received a call from Cheng Zhenzhen, customer service representative Number 5 from a leasing company, informing him that his apartment was rented out. Shao requested that the tenant book him a first-class ticket from New York to Shanghai. After hanging up, Cheng Zhenzhen secretly thought Shao Pengcheng was truly peculiar.
In Italy, acclaimed interior designer Jing Ran received an invitation and had his assistant book return flights. After flying to Shanghai, Jing Ran was to attend an exhibition at the Shanghai Aquarium. Shao Pengcheng had also volunteered at the Aquarium to fulfill his mother's wishes. Shao's father, Chairman Shao of Love & Family Real Estate Sales Company, admired Jing Ran's design philosophy and decided to recruit him into his company.
Due to Chairman Shao's ill health, he proposed that Yun Ping (his assistant) meet Jing Ran as his representative. Yun Ping reported seeing Shao Pengcheng at the Aquarium, so Chairman Shao ordered Yun Ping and Shao Pengcheng to meet Jing Ran together. At the Aquarium's entrance, Shao Pengcheng was checking tickets when Cheng Zhenzhen arrived, eager to see her idol, Jing Ran. She presented a guest ticket, but Shao refused entry and insisted she re-queue.
Later, during a dolphin performance, Shao Pengcheng, acting as the host, selected Cheng Zhenzhen from the first row to interact with a dolphin. Cheng Zhenzhen made a fool of herself during the interaction. After quickly changing, Cheng Zhenzhen rushed to get a photo with Jing Ran, but didn't succeed, leaving her disappointed. She immediately vented all her nameless anger on Shao Pengcheng.
Later that evening, Yun Ping met with Shao Pengcheng and directly stated his purpose, hoping to meet at 8 PM in the executive lounge. Shao Pengcheng rebuked Yun Ping as a workaholic, but still reluctantly agreed to attend. At the meeting, Yun Ping introduced Shao Pengcheng. Shao, however, was aloof. Subsequently, his phone received a school notification about his expulsion. Enraged, he threw a tantrum and created a scene. Angered by Shao's behavior, Jing Ran left promptly.
Yun Ping, displeased, urged Shao to apologize to Jing Ran before his flight back to Italy the next day. The next morning, Jing Ran received news that he had won the silver award. He was visibly displeased by the outcome. As Jing Ran attempted to leave the hotel, he was mobbed by reporters. Yun Ping proactively came forward to apologize to him, but Shao Pengcheng was still slouchy, looking like a profligate young master.
However, Jing Ran didn't give them any time and left directly. Facing Yun Ping's blame, Shao Pengcheng still justified himself. Just then, Cheng Zhenzhen arrived, hoping to talk to Jing Ran. She tried to talk to him but was rebuffed, and he left. Shao Pengcheng, seeing Cheng Zhenzhen upset, also came to mock her. Cheng Zhenzhen, infuriated, directly cursed Shao Pengcheng. Cheng Zhenzhen ran out not far, and it started raining heavily outside.
She took temporary shelter at a bus stop. Just then, Shao Pengcheng drove by, kindly offering Cheng Zhenzhen a ride. As soon as Cheng Zhenzhen saw him, she became furious and ran directly into the pouring rain. Later, soaked and disheartened, Cheng Zhenzhen boarded a bus to go home, her heart full of disappointment. She unexpectedly received a Weibo reply from Jing Ran, which made her feel a little relieved.
Meanwhile, Shao Pengcheng returned to his hotel, discovered his room in disarray and his mother's treasured journal missing. He immediately called customer service representative Number 5, Cheng Zhenzhen, accusing her of renting his apartment to a liar whose actions left his room a mess and caused his mother's journal to go missing, demanding she resolve the issue promptly. Cheng Zhenzhen, on the phone, apologized repeatedly. Dissatisfied, Shao Pengcheng declared he was coming to her company.
Upon arriving at the company, he immediately grabbed Cheng Zhenzhen's hand, repeatedly questioning why she rented his house to a liar, asserting it must be because of the aquarium incident that she harbored resentment. Seeing Shao Pengcheng relentless, Cheng Zhenzhen decided to compensate for the losses. The commotion soon reached the manager. Cheng Zhenzhen attempted to call the tenants, but the number didn't connect. The manager initially tried to mediate, offering a cleaning service.
Cheng Zhenzhen, however, argued that the journal's personal value to Shao Pengcheng was undeniable and that the company's priority should be finding the renters to recover his losses, not just cleaning the apartment. The manager, in a fit of anger, fired Cheng Zhenzhen. Cheng Zhenzhen left the office with her belongings, holding the 2000 RMB paid by the company. She offered this money to Shao Pengcheng as compensation for his losses. Shao, however, refused it, and demanded she write an IOU. Cheng Zhenzhen, exasperated, angrily wrote the IOU.
