Zhou Chengcheng prepared a full table of dishes but didn’t see any sign of Wen Rang, whose bookstore was still closed. Wen Shaoqing arrived early but didn’t see Cong Rong either. Zhou Chengcheng asked him to call Wen Rang because she feared he wouldn’t pick up if she called. Wen Shaoqing got through, and Wen Rang said he needed to think about it. Cong Rong called to say she had to work overtime and would be late.
Cong Rong was working on the student loan case for the girl, Xiao Zhang, when Shangguan Yi saw her. He reminded her that she wasn’t qualified to handle cases independently. Cong Rong explained that even if she wasn’t qualified, she wanted to help Xiao Zhang by finding similar cases to increase the chance of success. Suddenly, Shangguan had a stomach attack, and Cong Rong rushed him to the hospital.
Wen Shaoqing learned about it and immediately took a taxi to the hospital. Xiong Jingjing arrived at the hospital with a fruit basket and saw Cong Rong at the payment counter. She made a comment, then realized Shangguan Yi was the patient. She always saw Cong Rong as a rival and tried her best to impress Shangguan, but he found her too noisy.
Cong Rong took Jingjing out under the pretense of buying porridge and advised her to stay calm when liking someone, or she’d scare them off. Jingjing was skeptical about Cong Rong’s kindness. Cong Rong clarified that she already had someone she liked and saw Shangguan only as a respected mentor, not a romantic interest. She even said her boyfriend was on the way to the hospital. Jingjing realized Cong Rong had a point and quietly stayed by Shangguan’s side.
But Shangguan still had Cong Rong on his mind and kept the chocolate she gave him on him. Cong Rong waited outside the hospital for Wen Shaoqing, who was stuck in traffic. As the countdown to New Year began, fireworks lit up the sky. Wen Rang hesitated for too long, and by the time he went to the address in the letter, his ex-girlfriend Xiao Jiang was gone.
Zhou Chengcheng was upset—she had prepared a feast only to eat it alone. Wen Shaoqing suddenly appeared in front of Cong Rong, hugged her tightly, and took her to dinner. Cong Rong told him she was working on something important and would tell him once it succeeded. She apologized for not spending the evening with him. Wen Shaoqing accepted her apology and kissed her in public, saying that was her punishment.
Xiao Jiang came to Zhou Chengcheng’s barbecue shop, saying she wanted hot pot and didn’t mind eating her leftovers. Zhou Chengcheng thought she had found a kindred spirit, and they drank and ate hot pot together. When Wen Rang returned and opened the bookstore, Xiao Jiang left 200 yuan and walked away. Zhou Chengcheng chased after her with the money and overheard Xiao Jiang telling Wen Rang she wanted to win him back.
Wen Rang told her not to bother and acted indifferent, saying he never intended to meet her. Cong Rong met with Xiao Zhang and gave her lots of materials, saying she could take her to a lawyer who had won similar cases. Xiao Zhang suddenly lost hope, saying she couldn’t afford a lawyer and knew she wouldn’t win.
Just as Cong Rong was about to offer to help, Shangguan Yi appeared and subtly offered support, asking Xiao Zhang to clearly explain how she was scammed and to gather others who had been deceived. Wen’s parents went to his bookstore, but he wasn’t there, so they waited next door at Zhou Chengcheng’s shop. Wen Rang rode back and exchanged words with his father, who nearly hit him with his cane out of frustration.
Zhou Chengcheng quickly stepped in, claiming she was dating Wen Rang to reassure his father. Cong Rong, driven by a sense of justice for every client, convinced Shangguan to accept the loan case. Shangguan asked her to gather more information. At the bus stop, Wen Shaoqing waited for Cong Rong. It started to rain, and he rushed to a nearby store to buy an umbrella so she’d have cover when she got off the bus. They went grocery shopping together.
Wen Shaoqing wanted to cook for her, but she had to work late with Shangguan. He was a little jealous but still drove her to the law firm. As Cong Rong turned and saw Wen Shaoqing, she felt incredibly happy.
