My Dear GuardianĀ Episode 31 Recap
> My Dear GuardianĀ Recap
Liang Shaoxue arrived at the troop's gate, asserting to the sentries that she was Liang Muze's sister and pleading to be let in, but was informed that no visitors were allowed for the next few days due to regulations. Liang Muze soon emerged, carrying a parrot. Liang Shaoxue immediately asked where Tian Yong was, stating she was there to see him.
Liang Muze revealed that Tian Yong had left the unit, but claimed he didn't know where he had gone, despite Liang Shaoxue pointing out that Xiao Teng and Xiang Yang were seen in a passing car. Liang Muze tried to give the parrot back to Liang Shaoxue, explaining he was too busy to care for it.
Liang Shaoxue refused, insisting that the parrot was entrusted to Tian Yong, and if it was to be returned, Tian Yong should bring it back himself. Worrying, she asked if something bad had happened to Tian Yong, but Liang Muze only reiterated his ignorance of Tian Yong's whereabouts, adding that some people were staying, some were being redeployed, and some were leaving the unit permanently. Meanwhile, Tian Yong was with Rao Feng, waiting for a response from their contacts.
Rao Feng assured him that their counterparts would need to consult their behind-the-scenes boss, so a quick reply was unlikely. He also asked Tian Yong how he felt about his new identity, to which Tian Yong confessed a sense of living another life, uncertain of his path and fearing he couldn't return to his old self.
Soon after, Long Yi called, informing them that the other party had taken the bait and proposed a meeting that night at a cruise ship nightclub. Rao Feng immediately dispatched plainclothes officers to the three-level cruise ship, instructing them to disguise as tourists and guard the six exits, while an action team stood by on nearby ships for tracking and assistance. Intelligence suggested "Scary Pirate" might also be present and had entered the country through secret channels.
Coincidentally, on her way back, Liang Shaoxue spotted Rao Feng and Tian Yong's car heading towards the cruise. Despite her driver's reluctance due to the car's speed and cost, she urged him to follow. She tried calling Tian Yong, but her calls went unanswered. Upon arriving at the cruise ship, she was denied entry without a ticket but managed to slip in after Tian Yong and Rao Feng had already boarded.
As Tian Yong and Rao Feng prepared to meet the "owner" with Long Yi and Zhuo Ran, Liang Shaoxue found Tian Yong. He feigned ignorance, claiming she had the wrong person. However, Liang Shaoxue recognized Long Yi, yelling that he was the one who had previously harmed her, and lunged at him, knocking his gun to the floor. An order came through to Tian Yong via his earpiece to remove Liang Shaoxue from the scene.
Tian Yong then roughly pushed Liang Shaoxue away. A quick glance confirmed she was wearing the Dyneema bulletproof vest he had specifically made for her, a gift he had once insisted she always wear. He quietly warned her, "It might hurt a little," before deliberately shooting her. Liang Shaoxue fell overboard, but police swiftly rescued her from the sea and rushed her to the hospital.
Meanwhile, Rao Feng, under his alias "Jiu," expressed strong dissatisfaction with Long Yi for bringing a gun to the deal, threatening to call off the transaction. Long Yi apologized profusely, claiming it was for their safety, and urged them to proceed, stating they were at the "final step." After a tense negotiation, Rao Feng seemingly reluctantly agreed to stay. Later, in the private room, Zhuo Ran received a call from the "Old Master."
He informed Rao Feng that the owner wouldn't be coming today, citing the Old Master's deep suspicion as the reason. Zhuo Ran stated that if the payment was transferred to the owner's overseas account by tomorrow afternoon and the deal went smoothly, they would soon meet the "owner." He also pressed Rao Feng to rescue his own mother. The following morning, Rao Feng went to the hospital to check on Liang Shaoxue.
Doctors informed him that while she was still in a coma, her life was no longer in danger, and she had sustained no fatal injuries thanks to the vest. They had performed chest drainage and fixed her ribs, with a good prognosis for recovery without further surgery. Liang Muze also arrived. Xia Chu approached Liang Muze, directly asking if Liang Shaoxue had been shot.
Liang Muze implicitly confirmed it by stating that if it were merely an accident, the medical staff wouldn't have been required to sign non-disclosure agreements. He urged Xia Chu to keep the matter secret. Xia Chu, affirming her courage as both a doctor and a soldier, embraced Liang Muze and made him promise not to put her in a situation where she would have to perform emergency rescue on him. He solemnly agreed.
Knowing his impending redeployment, Xia Chu asked how many more times they would see each other, to which Liang Muze replied he didn't know. Xia Chu soon returned to the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Immediately, Dr Zhang informed her that the twin children of a deceased pregnant patient had found adoptive families. The adoptive parents insisted on meeting Xia Chu to thank her.
Xia Chu inquired about the twins' well-being, and Dr Zhang mentioned that despite looking identical, they had very different personalities, one being quiet and the other quite fussy. While settling back into her office, Xia Chu recalled Dr Zhangās remark about the twins' differing personalities. This, combined with her earlier suspicions and a recollection of various events since Zhuo Ran's return, ignited a terrifying thought: the current Zhuo Ran might not be the person she knew.
She then called Mi Gu, recalling Mi Gu's earlier mention of a resemblance between a drug dealer's son from old videotapes and Zhuo Ran. Xia Chu asked Mi Gu to check the tape for a photo. However, Mi Gu found that the video footage was now missing, leading her to wonder if she had been mistaken.
Xia Chu also asked Mi Gu if Zhuo Ran had a twin brother, but Mi Gu dismissed the idea, stating he was an only child. Rao Feng contacted Liang Shaoxue's mother, urging her to return to care for her injured daughter. She agreed, booking an early flight from Los Angeles, and Rao Feng then informed Liang Muze to arrange for her pickup. Later, Rao Feng returned the Dyneema bulletproof vest to Tian Yong.
Seeing that the bullet had not penetrated, Tian Yong visibly relaxed. Rao Feng, realizing Tian Yong knew Liang Shaoxue beforehand, pressed him on how he was so certain she would wear the vest. Tian Yong explained Liang Shaoxue had signaled to him when he pushed her, and he had explicitly told her to always wear it, confident in his aim and the vest's efficacy.
Despite Tian Yong's flawless execution of the plan, Rao Feng angrily punched him, frustrated that he had to shoot his own daughter. Rao Feng then arranged a meeting with Zhuo Ran, demanding to know why the "Old Master" had canceled their meeting. Zhuo Ran explained the Old Master's extreme suspicion, stating he wouldn't show up even with one percent doubt, and confirmed he had not yet entered the country.
Zhuo Ran listed various channelsāantique auctions, illegal insurance, online gambling, and financeāas methods they would use to process the payment. Rao Feng pressed Zhuo Ran to arrange another meeting with the Old Master, while Zhuo Ran, in turn, pressured Rao Feng for a definite timeline for rescuing his mother. Rao Feng explained their limited overseas enforcement rights, stating they needed Interpol and local police support, which was still being coordinated.
He urged Zhuo Ran to cooperate fully and wait for updates, emphasizing that action would be taken once concrete evidence was secured. Meanwhile, Mi Gu visited a village and encountered a distraught woman, whom the locals called "the crazy woman," who immediately attacked her, screaming accusations of "demon" and demanding her husband back.
The Village Chief and others quickly intervened, explaining that the woman was mentally unstable due to a military-police joint anti-drug operation eight years prior, in which her entire family had died. He mentioned that she would relapse whenever she encountered anything related to that drug bust. The woman hysterically blamed a "jinx," Pei Yongyan, who had run a drug factory in the village and ruined her family by luring her husband and in-laws into drug use.
Mi Gu, intrigued, showed the Village Chief a photo of Zhuo Ran. The Chief noted a striking resemblance to Pei Yongyan's son, Pei Yu, but quickly dismissed it as impossible, stating that Pei Yu and his father had both died in the operation and were buried in an unmarked grave. The crazy woman, upon seeing Zhuo Ran's photo, became even more agitated, calling him the "jinx" and screaming that he had returned and would bring more misfortune.
Mi Gu learned that Pei Yu had no known siblings and his mother was an out-of-towner who left after his birth. Mi Gu initially hesitated to share this unsettling discovery with Xia Chu, feeling it might be serious or just her overthinking.
However, when Xia Chu called her back, Mi Gu started to speak about Zhuo Ran, but was cut off by Xia Chu, who excitedly revealed that she and Liang Muze had officially confirmed their relationship, despite her father's disapproval. Mi Gu expressed understanding, acknowledging that both had chosen difficult paths but that difficulty didn't equate to wrongness, implying they were among the brave few. Despite this conversation, Mi Gu was still internally grappling with the uncanny resemblance between Zhuo Ran and the deceased Pei Yu.
